I had a very disappointing experience with Herbie Auto in Bayonne, NJ. On May 7th, I brought my car in for a wheel alignment. I spoke with a man there who quoted me $95. He asked when I needed the car back, and when I asked how long it would take, he told me it would be ready by 1:30 PM. We exchanged information, and I left the car there. Around 1:30 PM, I called to check if the car was ready, and he told me to give him another 20 minutes. I said okay and left my house shortly after to pick it up. When I arrived, he told me everything was good, I paid cash, and went home. The very next day, while driving to work on I-78, I noticed the car did not feel right. Over the next several days, it continued driving poorly. On Wednesday, May 13th, I took my car to Hudson Nissan for another wheel alignment because they use alignment sensors during inspection. I explained the recent work that had been done. During their inspection, they discovered that the front driver-side tie rod had been overheated to the point that the metal became brittle and damaged. At no point did Herbie Auto contact me to explain they were having difficulty performing the alignment or that additional repairs might be needed. After leaving Nissan, I went to my regular mechanic, who confirmed that the tie rods now need to be replaced before another alignment can even be performed. I understand that issues can happen during repairs, but the lack of communication and the damage caused to my vehicle is unacceptable. I trusted them with my car and now have to pay significantly more money to repair the damage and redo the alignment properly. read more

went to Herbie's Repair Shop today for a wheel alignment and tire balancing. Before the work started, Herbie, the owner, quoted me $125 for the alignment and $10 per wheel for balancing. I thought the pricing was fair, so I agreed to the service. After waiting over 2.5 hours, I was shocked when my final bill came to $269. When I questioned the total, Herbie claimed the balancing charge was actually $30 per wheel, not the $10 per wheel he originally quoted me. When I pointed out the discrepancy, he became argumentative and insisted he never gave me the lower price. Only after I threatened to dispute the charge with my credit card company did he agree to refund the extra amount. This experience was extremely unprofessional and left me feeling like I was being taken advantage of. I strongly recommend that anyone doing business here get all quotes and pricing in writing before agreeing to any work. read more

Avoid Herbie's Repair Shop - Poor Service & Lack of Accountability I brought my car to Herbie's for what should have been simple fixes--my horn wasn't working, and some buttons had stopped functioning. They managed to fix the horn, but within days, the buttons stopped working again. When I picked up my car, I immediately noticed the steering wheel was off-center (which, correct me if I'm wrong, likely means my alignment was thrown off). On top of that, my engine sensor was going off. When I asked about it, I was told, "It should turn off in a few minutes." Spoiler alert: it didn't. A week later, I brought my car back, hoping they would correct the issues they caused. Once again, I was disappointed. The steering wheel is still not straight, the sensor is still on, and the buttons remain broken. They kept my car for an entire day just to hand it back with the same problems. I'm a hardworking, middle-class citizen, and every dollar I put into my car comes from my hard-earned money. If you value your vehicle and expect a shop to take accountability for their work, take your business elsewhere. I had surgery a few weeks ago and had a flat tire. Brought the car to Herbies and he and his crew took care of me. They first checked if the tire was salvageable before having me spend money on new ones. They patched up the tire and checked the rest. A small shop with a big heart. I keep running over nails and screws on the turnpike, I swear I must be a magnet for these spikey bois. I happened to pass by Herbies and they fixed it in minutes! I did it again, months later, and luckily, I kept their card in my visor, so I knew exactly where to go. Again, they patched up my tire in a few minutes and I was on my way! My experience was amazing, It was on a Sunday I was there at 8am to be the first one to be serve, open on time, they offer me coffee, I ask the manager Joshua Valentin to use the Bathroom as a female, he check for me first and see if it was property left clean from the previous day. It guess was, but he make me feel more confortabke when he cleaned it for me. That was nice of him, since most clients are males most of those places They only have one bath. They did an oil and ac filter change, he clean the carpet and leaf residuals from I guess was from the Fall the staff are young energetic and very polite. I was surprised that I got a free car wash. I will recommend this place since they are very honest and they care for the customer. I will give a 10 star but the max are 5. read more

I'm so thankful to have found Herbie's when I moved to town, he has exceeded expectations on multiple occasions and has always treated me fairly. Last summer I had to have my car towed here on a Sunday for a repair I expected to take days. Left my key in the door slot with a note, and when I called at 8:30 the next morning he had already diagnosed the issue, and it was ready to go by noon! They did a quick inspection of the noise from my car and told me what I needed. I bought the part myself and bought it to be installed. They did a quick job under 3 hours. But they charged me a full 3 hours of labor work. They started around 8:20am and finished at 10:28am. That's literally 2 hours. I didn't say anything because the guy was responsive to helping out and they did a good job from what I can tell. But I didn't like the dishonestly towards the end with the labor charge. They labor charge is 103 bucks or something. So be careful when your there and be aware of the time. read more

He demanded to be paid to diagnose my car which I knew already needed a new engine. He wanted 1000 down to get me an engine with 83000 miles on it and when I found a better mechanic who didn't ask for anything down, I anted car back so towed it out of there but he held the key, refused to leave in the car until I paid him for oil in the car and a diagnosis I did not need. I found a better , more reasonable mechanic who allowed me to make payments on the repairs and thus will dispute paying him even the small amount on my card as he deserved nothing.
