Tire Replacement Service - I called the day before requesting a tire. It arrived around noon the following day, The service desk was able to get me in and out quickly! Within an hour of drop off. While waiting for my vehicle I did notice a lot of rude customers come in and out demanding XYZ. Let's try to treat people how we would like to be treated. I've been coming here for years for various repairs and routine maintenance. But, based on my last experience, it's time for Mavis to remove the word "Discount" from their name. Generally, the staff is nice and they get the job done promptly if you come during their off-peak hours. However, managament seems to change every year, and the prices for service get dramatically higher with each iteration. This was once my go-to spot for oil changes. I have a 4 cyclinder American made car and would bring my own preferred 5-liter synthetic oil and filter, then just pay for labor costs. Around 2020-2021 they charged around $15-$20 for labor on an oil change. Then it increased to around $30. Recently, in 2025, they charged $95 just for labor or $115 with the oil and filter included! Based on that quote, they now charge around $75-$100 for around 15 minutes of labor! Also, beware of the bait and switch. For example, during one visit for an oil change, I called ahead and got a price. When I arrived, I confirmed the price. But, when it was time to pay, the manager gave me a higher price and said it was because the pricing codes were wrong. The price is the price! I understand mechanics often want to markup prices and add-on services when possible, but it's not fair to the customer to change the price at the end. Especially not for standard maintenance tasks. Finally, I had one bad experience here when a mechanic actually forgot to put oil in my engine for an oil change. I figured this out while driving away and my car alerted me to check my oil. So, be sure to check your repairs before you leave. Honesty and honoring prices are big deals when it comes to service. And of course, businesses can increase prices. But increasing prices by over 5x during the course of a few years isn't going to keep customers. Given the mixed experiences and rapidly increasing prices, I'm looking elsewhere for auto services. Mavis has officially priced me out. Right now, Walmart Auto charges $59 for a full synthetic oil change. That's the baseline for my next oil change and dictates where I'll be doing any maintenance going forward - it won't be here. read more

I avoid this place at all time. They had never invented a clock yet because they have no idea what " appointment" is. The concept of appointment is to accommodate you within the scheduled time , not 2 hrs. later. That's very unprofessional and wasteful. Whoever is in charge need to revisit the the time management and implement the service. As a costumer, I can care less there is only 1 mechanic, schedule more staff if you know there is plenty of appointments ahead. I will not go back. Completely wasted my time and money. Avoid this place at all cost! They gave me terrible quality tires that broke down after less than a month. And then told me that they weren't liable to fix the mistake. There are so many better places in Jersey City that you can go. read more

I booked an appointment online. I received 2 separate calls to confirm my 11am appointment, which I confirmed. I asked how long it should take and they said it would take 2hrs or less. Once onsite I was told 2hrs, but it ended up taking 3 because there were 2 appointments at the same time and only 1 person who can do the work. This wouldn't have been an issue had they just said it in the first place. Standing outside it looks like at least 2. Individuals who are working on tires. The assistant manager was more worried about his lunch than informing me that it would be late, even as I sat in their waiting room. He refused to call his manager and told me he would have him call me when he was back. I'll never come back here or spend another dime at this location. I had an 11 am appointment for an oil change and, by the time 12:30 came around, my car had still not even been brought in. I asked several times about when my car would be handled and was assured it was next but every time I went to check, it kept getting pushed for other more "urgent" situations. I asked why I even made an appointment when it wasn't honored and they said it was like going to the doctor -- you make an appointment but you aren't always seen on time. What? I've never been so disrespected in my entire life. I came to this Mavis because I wanted to save some time (my car dealer is another 20 minutes away) but I will NEVER make that mistake again. Made an appointment for a tire repair days in advance. When we showed up they said it didn't matter and they didn't have time to do a repair despite making an appointment. He also lied and said he attempted to call appointments to say they had to cancel, we had zero missed calls. It was clear because it was a repair and not new tires or a greater service, they just didn't care to service us. Very frustrating they did not value our time, or the gas we spent to drive there. Horrible! Had my car repaired here because it was close to my job. I had front end work done there. After I pick up my car I'm driving home on the turnpike when all of the sudden I hear scraping noise from the front end.i pull over and see my engine splash guard dragging . I was already 10 miles away from this pos establishment so I pull off the turnpike and find a local shop. They show me that whomever did the repair only put two screws back Into the splash guard. There's 8 screws 4 bolts and 6 rubber rivets that needed to be replaced... only two screws were put back! Mavis If your mechanics are lazy to do the job correctly.....FIRE THEM!! Service Advisors/Mechanics - Eddie and Ernesto always have been helpful. 15 minutes prior to close of their shop, they took the time to inspect my car horn, checking all head, rear and fog lights were functioning properly and safe to drive on the road. They even tightened all of the light bulbs to ensure and prevent malfunctioning. Took my Honda CRV 2018 for tire rotation. But the service guy would not follow the recommended tire rotation format (front tires straight to back and back tires cross over to front) which the same location followed when rotating the tires the last time. He would only do the straight back and straight front. Said it's the new policy from Mavis. Didn't find any such policy anywhere. Why would a service location enforce their own policy and not follow the recommended one by the car brand? Even after asking him to do the way it is recommended, the service guy said he won't do it. After noticing that, I had a nail in my tire I brought my car to this location of Mavis 725 Route 440 in New Jersey because I didn't want to drive too far. The nail was clearly visible and right in the middle of the tire. When the technician saw the tire he immediately said the tire had to be replaced. The total cost of the replacement was over $400 when I asked why he said it's hard to explain, but the radial was destroyed and the integrity of the tire with a nail in that location, now I know about cars and I was a little suspicious because in my experience, a nail in the center of the tire is the best place to get a plug. If the tire goes flat it's the sidewall or edge of the tire that is unrepairable, anyway, I bought the new tire and spent the money. A few months later coincidentally the same tire had a slow leak on the brand new tire. This time I brought it to the Mavis near my home and the technician pointed out the leak in the same exact location as the other puncture and he said this is the best place to get a puncture because it's the most repairable! When I told him about the Jersey City Mavis he was shocked, but not surprised, he said not all franchises are as reliable or trustworthy, pretty awful to think that I was basically swindled out of over $400 for a new tire when I didn't need one even as it was against my better judgment, but I trusted the people at Mavis. I would stay away from the Jersey City location if I were you. read more

They never follow up they don't call you back to tell you the tire has arrived they don't seem to care how long you wait and they charged me $160 to repair a rim. $30 more than if I just bought a new one and it took them 2 1/2 days. Surprised that not everyone at this place is fired yet... They are actually running a scam. I had a spare tire and called Mavis. They said they will order it and the tire will be shipped in 3 hours. I dropped my car there, and 6 hours later the tire still hasn't arrived. I called and they said "they have no information on where the tire is". Next day, still no tire. Two days later, still no tire. I had to cancel all my other appointments that depended on my car. I highly doubt that they even ordered the tire. Extremely bad attitude from all staff. Each call to follow up required a 10 minute hold and high chance of suddenly hanging up on you. Refused to provide any timeline on when the tire would arrive. They essentially expect you to be able to wait forever for a tire that they supposedly ordered. read more
