I have been their customer for a while, but very disappointed our last trips to their shop. My wife and I brought cars for tire change. When received our cars back, wheel mounting lug nut bolt were miss threaded. Had to install new. Also my security lug nut was missing. That happened on our both cars. I brought it back and they fixed it. I figure I gave them another try. Took my car for alignment. Sat there for almost 2 hours. Guy in the front gave me my keys back and said that technician could not get my alignment done. When I took my car somewhere else, they told me rod threads were stripped and one bolt was lose. I could of been in the car accident, if that mounting nut came off! They are hiring not a qualified people to work on cars! I would suggest to stay away! Concerned customer! read more

I made an appointment online for an oil chandler and selected "I don't know what kind of oil I need" he took the car did the oil change but never asked what oil I was getting. he came out and said my bill was over $100 because it is synthetic. I told him that he never asked and I never get synthetic. he tried to say that's what the appointment said but when I told him it wasn't true he sighed and said I'll do the ticket over. no push back or anything. he really just tried to get me out of over $50. Malvern location does poor quality work. I took my car in several times to fix squeaky brakes. Their mechanics don't seem to be able to find a permanent fix. I will not return for a 4th revisit because first, I no longer trust their work and second, the wait times are long and I do not intend to waste time repeatedly going back for the same exact issue. I even inquired about making an appointment but I was told the wait time for appointments is just as long as walk-ins and dropping the car off. I also had an issue with tires. They seem to be repeatedly selling me poor quality tires because I've had almost 3-4 visits over only 3-4 months to buy tires. read more

Too bad there isn't negative stars. Here's my story, please take notice if this has happened to you! Just a heads up for residents in the area. I recently went to Pep Boys in Malvern to get my car inspected (mistake #1 but I waited until the last minute) I received a call about 4 hours later saying I needed tires (my tires were only 2 years old but ok) and I was also told that my battery was bad. So I told them to do the tires but skip the battery (I'm not paying labor charges to install a battery). Once I arrived to pick up my car, I paid went to where my car was parked in the lot, turned the key and nothing happened not even a click, I popped the hood and saw that my positive terminal was disconnected and folded back away from the terminal. I went inside quite upset because they had to drive it out to the lot THEN disconnect the battery. I told the clerk that what he was allowing was dishonest if not illegal. Had I been older or not known better they would expect me to go in and say ok it won't start replace the battery. I will not be bringing them anymore business! read more

An older man slightly overweight with gray hair works the front desk there. He treats customers in a demeaning manner. Both derogatory and condescending. He's rude and sexist. I'm extremely shocked that Pep Boys continues to support and employ such a poor representative for their establishment, it's disgusting! Furthermore, I believe he's the manager that sends responses and covers up all the negative reviews he receives. However, there's a younger dark haired gentleman who has amazing manners. He's polite, respectful, and professional. He's great! Until the old guy gets fired and the other guy takes over his position...STAY AWAY!!! read more

We really like the employee Bill. He was great at communicating. We took our Chrysler 300 in for inspection and oil change and it had 83k miles on it. We ended up needing all new tires, an alignment and new brakes which wasn't a surprise since we already had a slow leak in 1 tire and just simply based on mileage. We dropped our car after hours and it was ready half way through the next day. My husband has said he always had a good experience at this Pep Boys. While I've had some negative experiences at other Pep Boys, we've had good experiences here. read more

It took an hour and a half to get the car's oil changed and change the filter, even though I had an appointment, and they didn't even get to patching my tire. It cost almost $100 for the visit and my car's check oil notification is still coming up. read more

I had great service here a year ago, and maybe that last encounter was just a glitch, try to be generous with this stuff, so I went back this week because I had a dead battery. The manager pulled his mask on when he saw me. I told him what I needed and he said that he couldn't get to it that day because he only had 1 tech working. I asked about the West Chester location. He said that they could help me because they have more techs working there. I asked if he could call and make sure before I drove there. He huffed and puffed and looked down, which I took as code for "no, that's too much trouble" so I left and found great car service down the street. So much for being generous and second chances. Absolutely scammed me on new tires. Came for a routine oil change, was told I "desperately" needed new tires. Said I could not travel to North Carolina that day (literal day of my vacation) without getting new ones. Told me one of my tires would blow out on the highway if I didn't get this done asap. Legitimately would've set me back 3 days and ruined my whole trip. Thank god I brought the car down the street to Monro and the gentleman told me this was total nonsense, that I didn't need new tires for 2-3 months and that this location was notorious for bullshit. Watch out for Jake he is sketchy. I also want to mention that I received the car and all of a sudden my drive train settings were changed and now it always ask me what drive train I want to be in. Never seen this screen before and don't know what's going on. Legitimately the biggest bullshit artists out there. I believe, in fact fully believe, they messed up my car more because they knew I was headed to North Carolina and thought I'd be screwed. read more

I made an appointment for an oil change at 1pm today. When I arrived, I asked how long it was going to take for them to finish, and they said they couldn't get me in for another 2 hours.... I ended up not getting my oil change done here. Why make an appointment at 1pm if you can't get me in until 3pm? I'm highly disappointed in pep boys. I brought my car in for an inspection. Upon picking it up and driving out of the parking lot l noticed that my right rear passenger window wasn't working. I later learned there was an issue with right hand side vent as well. I immediately returned to Pep Boys in less then 5 minutes and they took no responsibility for either issue saying it must have been a coincidence. No way two electrical issues appear from no where while a vehicle is in their care. Let me start by saying I place a high premium on customer service and the way we interact with others professionally. I recently retired from a 20 year career in the Air Force. People were expected to be responsible when dealing with others and do their work correctly. I do feel I owe it to my community to write an accurate review of my experience, so here it is. Having moved to Pennsylvania I needed to register my car. I called on a Saturday and requested an appointment for state inspection the following week. The technician said they could get me in at 10 am on Monday. I asked for the length of the appointment and was told 2 hours. I arrived at 9:58 on Monday morning to drop off my car. I asked again to confirm the duration of the appointment and was told around 2 hours. I asked if they had my phone number and they said they did and they would call me once it was complete. I confirmed that the number they had was indeed mine. Around 1 pm they called with a couple of questions as they were about the begin inspecting my car. What? For a 10 am appointment? Well, they only had one inspector today, they said. At 2:30 I received a call saying my car was complete. When I went to pay for the car, I asked why it was started late. I was told that the purpose of the appointment time was just to make sure they got the car done today. What? I felt like I was on Drew Carey... "in the shop where everything is made up and the times don't matter..." I told them that I did not feel that this was good customer service. If they realized that they would not have my car done in the 2 hours that had twice been mentioned they should have told me. There is a reason why you have appointment times. The gentleman with whom I was having this discussion told me that since they were a smaller operation, they just couldn't guarantee the time something would be done. I said I understand that, but good customer service dictates that you should call and let me know when what was previously stated is no longer realistic. I suggested that maybe I should take my future business to a larger operation, since that was part of his stated explanation for their poor service. Ironically, today was Veteran's Day. Had I known they wouldn't have started my car until 1, I would have driven to Texas Roadhouse and had a nice, free, Veteran's Day lunch and brought the car in later, rather than leaving my car sitting in their parking lot for them not to work on it. read more

Fantastic Service at Malvern! My car was incorrectly diagnosed/serviced by another Pep Boys location and was charged a whole lot of $$$ without solving the issue. I had no confidence in that shop and went for a second opinion at the Malvern location. The Manager Joe, Kaitlin, T, and team performed another diagnostic and solved the problem. My car runs great now and I can't thank them enough. They are a smaller shop/team but they have more knowledge and get their $&@! done. I would recommend them over any Pep Boys in the area. read more

I went in for my annual inspection. Unfortunately my check engine light was on and PEpBoys determined that I have 5 error codes that would need about 1200$ worth of services to repair. They refused to pass emissions test until I signed up for their repairs. I went to a local shop for a second opinion and they said it was just one error code that needed an oxygen sensor replacement. The local shop wrapped it all up in 300$. Update 04/01: The manager called to apologize and said they should have run an engine diagnosis test even before recommending any services. My check engine light was on and I took it to pep boys...they said it was an air flow sensor problem and said it needed to be replaced. I come to pick up my car and they replaced the sensor along with $500 worth of flushes that I didn't agree to! The total bill was $950!!! They said my emission and inspection was due also and it wasn't due for another 6 months! They also did an oil change again after just doing one a month prior! I will never return or recommend them to anyone. read more

Brought my car in for an oil change after making an appointment online. Sat for over an hour watching my car still sit in the parking lot. When I asked how much longer the manager said that it would be another hour until they could even work on my car. The tech apologized when I left but I would have loved to know that I was in for a 2 hour wait before I sat down. Broke down on the Pennsylvania Turnpike on 4/4/15 and had us towed by AAA to this store. Three young guys took care of my family like their own. It was mid-afternoon on a Saturday, so finding a part was tough. They called all over, eventually found one, drove me in their personal vehicle 25 minutes to get it, were cordial and polite the entire way, got me a discount on the part at Auto Zone, installed it, and ran a general inspection of the van, even staying over an hour past closing to make sure we were safe. We were over 6 hours from home on a Saturday and would have been stranded without the good guys at this store. Kudos to you Pep Boys, I'll be a lifelong customer now. read more

I was grateful to find that Pep Boys had a service repair shop opened on Sunday when I received an initial assessment of what was going on with my car. I was encouraged to bring it back in for review by their Master Technician (MT). I was greeted by Sales Manager, Chris B., and the car was diagnosed promptly by MT Chris. While the news wasn't as dire as the initial diagnosis, repairs would still be a hefty price. Chris B. took the time to explain what was happening with my car and then explained the options (getting it repaired or purchasing another car). Chris B. didn't try to sway me either way and provided me with enough information to make a decision. I felt he was honest and looking out for my best interest. I wasn't charged for either of the diagnostic visits. Based on these experiences, the Malvern Pep Boys location may become my go to car service shop. Thanks much. read more

Whatever you do, don't book your appointment on line. I scheduled a state inspection, but when I showed up, the mechanic authorized to do state inspections didn't work on the day of my appointment. In addition, I was informed my vehicle would not fit on their lift. I asked why the online system allowed me to book an appointment and put my vehicle detail in, when they could not accommodate the day or vehicle. Took my almost new car in for annual inspection. They called to say front and rear struts were leaking and I would need to replace all four for $1,700. I was absolutely shocked, because the suspension on my car had been flawless. I took it elsewhere and was told the truth - two of the four struts were just starting to leak, but definitely didn't need to be replaced at this point and were certainly not bad enough to fail inspection. Glad I got a second opinion and didn't heed the advice of Pep Boys. read more

Update: I got my car inspected and repaired at almost half the cost at another business. Plus, I passed inspection and got new stickers without having to drive 250 miles without the stickers, in order to pass inspection ( which is what i was told at pep boys that i had to do if i had them continue work on it) Very glad i decided not to come back, Hope my review helps others in doing the same =) read more

Charged $150 for replacing one headlight and it only went on for only two days and didn't work again. Brought the car back to have it checked out and I was told it was the wire that went loose and they didn't hold the part to change it. Then I brought my car to another place and I was told nothing was wrong with the wire and changed the bulb again for less than 40 bucks. The bulb worked perfectly ever after.
