I have to say I've never had an issue with Pep boys and used them for the years I've lived on Merritt island. However, today I dealt with a beyond unpleasant worker named MATT. I needed both my spark plugs and coils replaced. I spoke with Ricardo the day prior who was so polite, understanding and willing to work with me. He said my car needed a tune up on top of the part replacement but he said that can be fixed in due time. I asked him to work with me to make the cost under 1k and he said he would. Come today I receive a call back from MATT saying the cost is 1200. I ask why and he said the my internal system computer needs to be reset as well. In speaking with my mechanic friend and doing my research online this is something that is not necessary for the vehicle in order to operate smoothly. And I am told this is them "milking money." I decided to speak with MATT face to face. I was very polite and asked him to please only replace the parts. He began to state he's not "going to half ass the job." I asked politely to have him work with me as I have been a loyal customer with them for years. He said that I had an "attitude" and that I need to take my car and go somewhere else. Well MATT thanks to you I will never use PEP boys again and as a member of the MI community for the last 6 years I'll be sure to tell my fellow friends not to go see you either and "take their car somewhere else." read more

Took them a week to fix a window motor for $850 and then to be completely rude when I questioned it. I will never recommend this place.

The older gentleman at the front desk tried to swindle me for $740 dollars on top of $150 fee for having to hook up the diagnostic machine..... The only thing my 2003 jeep wrangler was a $100 part called the coil rail that I told them I thought was the culprit. I was completely shocked when I was told this price. I asked him to help me understand why it would costs so much. I asked how much an hour for the services which he replied $120 an hour. The coil rail only has 4 bolts and a plug. I asked him why it would take more than an hour to remove and replace 4 bolts. He then told me to have a nice day because he didn't want to debate with me. I took my keys and left. It makes my skin crawl to think of innocent people being taken advantage of by these kind of swindlers. If I could give negative points I would. read more

F**K THESE GUYS! You almost have to think that some of the practices at this Pep Boys border on illegal. They get people in with an allure of inexpensive service like a cheap oil change, free tire rotation, lifetime wheel alignment at a low cost...etc Then they try harder than a timeshare salesman to upsell you services that YOU DIDN'T EVEN ASK THEM TO DIAGNOSE! Top that with being told it's not "safe" to perform the service you came in for originally unless you also get the service they're upselling. I made an appointment for a simple wheel balance. YES, I MADE AN APPOINTMENT, and showed up bright and early for it. 2 hours , and 3 separate times watching my car pull out of the lot for a "test drive," I was told I needed an additional $2,000 worth of work. THE BALLS! You have to wonder how many Pep Boys customers get suckered in by these practices. Here's a solid tip Pep Boys; DON'T RUN DIAGNOSTICS ON VEHICLES UNLESS YOU'RE ASKED TO. These guys suck at best. A simple oil change and tire rotation gone bad!!! 1.) they wouldn't rotate the tires the way I wanted to even out the wear basically I was told I'm stupid. 2.) I asked them to insure they updated tire pressure sensor locations. Well my one erratically slow leaker busted them on that. 3.) MOST IMPORTANTLY they failed to tighten my oil filter, it had a slow drip leak. Luckily a week in airport parking let me know that. I reached under and tightened it a half turn. When I stopped at local O'Reilleys auto parts, they informed me about this place and the manager in particular. Appears that wheels also come off of vehicles. I'll be checking that next with a certified mechanic. For their sake legally I hope they're tight. read more

Pep Boys Merritt Island is a rip off. I. wouldn't recommend them to anyone. Boyfriend brought car in they did oil change it needed additional work was told couldn't get part that day said they would order it on Monday. He got a call that Monday told cat wouldn't be ready until Friday and that would be 1200 dollars. So I called told them to not touch car and put it back together. Called Jimmy Vickers brought it to them that afternoon on Monday turned out what Pep Boys said was wrong with it was wrong. Vickers has it fixed by Tuesday mid day and was only 450 and that's with labor and cost of part. just imagine how many people pep boys rip off . read more

The manager might be a nice guy but the mechanics are inconsistent and make potentially detrimental mistakes. 1 trip here will result in another so they can fix what they messed up during the initial visit. They can't even reattach skid plates after an oil change...they say they're a drug free work place but some of these guys gotta be smoking somethin'. Twice in 6 months I've had to be towed right back for them to fix something that was fine when I brought my car in initially. If you value your time, go somewhere else. I had a bunch of warning lights go on in my car as I was driving down to take a cruise. We were really lucky to find the Pep Boys was open on Sunday. So I drop my car off in the morning before I got on the ship. When I came to pick it up, they had reset all the warning lights. But they said they couldn't find anything in the codes that were a problem. They did diagnostics on it for days and didn't find an issue. They didn't charge me anything. I know they spent time trying to figure it out, but he didn't charge me because they didn't find anything that needed fixing. I was quite surprised at this. I fully expected a pretty big bill just for the time and trouble to do the diagnostics. But nothing. read more

They have sent me to the dealership after they were unable to fix a wiring harness that a rodent thought was lunch, all without charge. They have delivered several times at less than initial quoted price because they were able to save something along the way. Overall not a bad job the times I have been here but DO NOT come here if you are in a hurry. Like most automotive repair places, they are looking for extra things to do to your car and not just the standard oil change and go. I have been on a few occasions and the quality of with is good but they do take their time with doing it so be prepared to sit down and wait for awhile. Typical auto care place that will take a simple oil change and turn it into a 3-4 hour ordeal because of the other items they are digging thru to work the upsell angle. So far, the jobs have been done well but I just wish I could come here and get the job completed that I ask for without being here all day. read more

In 2014 I would have given this automobile repair shop three out of five stars for reasonably timely, decent quality service at somewhat inflated prices based on several prior jobs they did for me. That all changed in June 2015 when I asked them to change a timing belt in my 2002 Honda Accord sedan. I learned later that the mechanics and the manager could not distinguish an interference engine from a non-interference engine, a basic Automobile Mechanics 101 skill. The net result was that the timing belt job was not worked correctly and resulted in a piston damaging a valve, subsequent rough operation due to low compression, and ultimately an engine rebuild at the shop of a competent competitor. I opened Case #423593 with Pep Boys Corporate Headquarters and finally resolved the issue well enough to my satisfaction not to make a court case to recover damages. That said, I have zero intention of ever doing business with any Pep Boys store again. Based on extensive Google searches, my horror story represents only one of many from across the nation. Search "Pep Boys incompetence" to learn what I mean. Apparently corporate policy pays mechanics substantially less than competitive wages. This means the chain cannot recruit and retain the best people to work on your car. Moreover, those they do retain have poor motivation to perform well. Given how critical automobiles have become to most people's livelihoods, it behooves drivers to research "best practices" for maintaining their cars and for identifying competent mechanics in their areas. Two excellent books I found are AUTO REPAIR FOR DUMMIES by Deanna Sclar and HOW TO MAKE YOUR CAR LAST FOREVER by Thomas Torbjornsen. Please select mechanics as carefully as you select doctors and for the same reason, namely that incompetents in either discipline can cripple you. read more

Was leaving the house to head to Orlando for work. Come to find out my tire was pretty flat and had a large screw in tact. I was lucky enough to be able to get right in at Pep Boys to have the tire plugged very quickly and I was be back on the road. Kyle Davis was extremely helpful and the service maintenance guys did an awesome job taking care of my repair. I have had great experiences here in the past which is why I was very disappointed that the new guy lied to me in attempt to sell me brakes. I know he lied because after being told I needed all new brakes, I changed the brakes myself and the claims he made after performing a tire rotation proved completely false. I absolutely did not need the new rotors he said I needed. And the "special tool" he said I would need? The one that was required to change the rear breaks? Turned out to be a figment of his imagination. It was a piece of cake and only the simplest of tools were required. The only special tool involved was the one standing behind the counter lying to his customers. What a bummer. I went there because I loved the place! Oh, and the way he treated the woman in front of me fulfilled every imaginable stereotype of a mechanic mistreating a woman. read more

Talk about good neighbors. My husband ordered four tires from Amazon and had them shipped directly to Pep Boys who proceeded to put them on mounted and balanced with no additional fees. Most other repair shops would have been pushing alignments and struts and all these other things that he "needed" but not these guys. They did what we asked them to do and didn't try to upsell. Then the following week the check engine light came on on my car and they were more than willing to do the diagnostic for nothing. After telling me what the problem was (gas cap) they said if the light came back on again I should buy a new gas cap closest to the factory model and then feel free to bring the car back And they would reset the check engine light again at no charge. I would definitely recommend these guys for the level of customer service and the good work they do. read more

My battery kicked the bucket literally across the street from this location, I was able to get in the lot and that was it. At 10 minutes before closing time, I was a little worried that they want me to come back the next day, nope! They jumped right on it, no wait, no run around, just went to work quickly and diagnosed the battery and alternator!! Picture this: Weekend getaway to Cocoa Beach - Friends, surfing, bars and good times. Now come Sunday, go to check out of the hotel and hear an awful noise from the truck, blowing coolant. Water pump = grenaded. Being Sunday and the unfortunate circumstance that we had tickets to a concert that night in St. Pete, we had a hard time finding anyone to do anything. Finally got Gunner on the phone at Pep Boys. He told me it wouldn't be a problem. I limped the truck over to the shop and wandered away to kill 4 hours. After 2.5 I get a call that everything was fixed and it was ready to go! They knocked it out and we made it to the concert. Gunner and the guys helped us out of a pinch and saved the weekend. I went to pep boys (emphasis on "boys" - these are less than men) to have a tire sensor installed and programmed. They were unable to do the job and still insisted on billing me twice!!! These are unscurupulous, low life, desperate individuals without consideration or concience, remiss of functioning grey matter. I was challenged to do something about it by the belligerent ill mannered manager, David, thus this review. Make sure you know your way around vehicles as i saw them take advantage with bait and switch style tecniques on the unsuspecting! There are several other high integrity businesses In the automotive category who respect and value community. Consider them rather than these predatory money-goading morons who care nothing about you or our wellfare. I hope i met the manager's challenge adequately by posting my experience! Went to Pep Boys for their tire special and found all sorts of hidden fees when I was presented the bill. There was a "tire handling charge" and a "shop charge" crammed in with the other fees that was not discussed or approved by me before the work took place. Big rip-off! read more

After they changed the oil (spending another 20 minutes looking for items they could fix and charge an additional $1200) they charged me $25 stating that I needed a special oil filter. I have had the car for 20 years and was never charged an additional fee due to my filter. Be careful with these guys. read more

I would not recommend this shop at all. I gave them a lot of opportunities since they are close but they disappointed every time. My car would be returned with missing lug nuts, stripped out bolts, items I requested done obviously not done. The things they did repair often required multiple follow up visits to get it corrected. Find a good shop. These aren't the guys you want. read more

don't go here for an oil change. i scheduled an appointment for 2pm. arrived 5 min early, then told to hand over my key and sit in the waiting area. i then sat in the area for an entire hour, with a perfect view out to my car, which no one had even moved from the original parking spot. i decided to wait 20 more min then left and went to The Lubrication Specialist who did an amazing job, didn't even have to leave the car, and took about 10 min! read more

Well this was my first and last experience with this company! My experience started by walking in and seeing the manger arguing with another customer which should have been my first sign. But I proceeded to speak with the other man at the desk and explained to him that my A/C wasn't working in my truck. I was told that the A/C check would be fee. After waiting for over an hour they told me that my compressor was bad and that there was a charger of almost $50. When I asked why there was a charger when I was told it would be free I was told that they had to run a diagnostics check on my truck to check it but I was never informed of that after being talked down to by the manager I received an estimate for Almaty $1,500. After leaving there unsatisfied I went to one of their competitors and received the same service completely free and their estimate was $900. Safe to say I will never be using Pep Boys nor would I recommend it to anyone. read more

These guys are generally pretty good but they have a problem getting parts and they do not listen very closely to what the customer asks for. I was needing my tires rotated and I have another problem with my anti-lock brakes and I was procrastinating getting that done. One day my engine developed a problem so I thought it was a good time to take care of all the maintenance I had been avoiding. When I dropped it off I explained the engine problem to the manager and I asked him to rotate the tires and check the anti-lock brakes. He knodded as he was writing all this down. They had the car for six days and every day I talked to them on the phone and could not get definitive answers about either of the other tasks. When I picked up the car, neither the tire rotation or the brakes had been addressed. When I dropped the car off, I told the manager to prepare tire options for me if the tires were too worn to rotate. I guess he didn't hear that either because they lost an opportunity to sell me a couple of tires. read more
