I googled repair shops for my Mercedes Benz and these guys came up. I refused to take it to the dealership in Melbourne FL because they're reviews are horrible, so I decided on Pep boys. Long story short, I waited 2 hours just for them to tell me they didn't have the tool to take the bolts off of my tires. I would expect that if you're claiming to repair a certain type of car that you would have the correct tools to fix it. The young mechanics were on their cellphones and the older ones were walking around pretending to work. I explained to the guy at the counter what the issues were with my car, but he didn't bother to tell the mechanic that was actually going to do the work, so I have to explain it again. They never even offered to look my car over before sending me back on the road. Nevertheless, my engine light came on while I was driving back home. ABOVE AND BEYOND SERVICE! My boyfriend and I took a road trip down to Palm Bay for vacation and to visit family. Towards the end of our vacay we knew we needed a new wheel bearing in the car before our 20+ hour trip back to upstate NY. We stopped to PepBoys to get an estimate and it turned out we needed more than a wheel bearing. Being on vacation we did not have the extra funds to put into our car for repair. PepBoys worked with us. They were genuine and very understanding with our financial situation. So understanding they knocked off over $500 for the estimated price for repair and labor! Bluto (employee of PepBoys) even offered to pick up a part that would have taken 2 days to ship on his day off! These guys worked their tails off and we truly appreciate their hard work and help. After having several bad experiences at a local dealer, I decided to try Pep Boys on Palm Bay Rd. I'm so glad I did!! I've been going there for over a year now and I'm completely satisfied with their service. I'm adding a back story...I'm from PA, been in FL 3 yrs now. My Chevy dealer in PA never pushed for unnecessary work when I went for service. I trusted them. Another thing I had going for me is that my son is a master mechanic so if my or my hubby's car needed something my son would do the work. HOWEVER, when I went to the Chevy dealer here in Melbourne, they'd tell me i needed this done or that done....so a $50 Oil change would end up costing anywhere fro. $400-$800...I'm not stupid and do check my owners manual for what is recommended and what mileage. I'm GLAD I decided to give Pep Boys my business because so far wha5 they have recommended has been spot on with my owners manual. I appreciate this!!! read more

I got a check engine light so I went to Pep Boys this Sunday morning to ask them to use their free computer check which only takes a minute. The kid behind the counter said they were too busy to do it right now, that I would have wait, about two hours. I looked in the mechanics' bay and they were laughing and joking; real busy. If they don't want to honor their offer to perform a free computer check, then they shouldn't make the offer. I went to another service center and they provided the requested computer check, which only took a minute, and I was off with a computer code allowing me to decide if I need to have the car fixed now or next week. I recommend the business(es) which honor their free offers; avoid those businesses which refuse to honor their free services. read more

Oh, the horror! They sure do seen real nice. The tires come with free rotation and I paid for road hazard. Also got an alignment. After my first time coming in for the free tire rotation. They tell me my CV axles are leaking damaged and need to be replaced. I found this odd because I just had them rebuilt. I told them they were just replaced less than 20k miles ago. I ask which part is leaking and if the boot is cracked I got no answer. Ignore them and keep driving as normal. As there's nothing wrong they just been replaced already. The next time I come back for the rotation again they tell me my wheel bearings need to be replace and they're all wobbly. At that point I knew I was being scammed the Bearings have shown no sign of ware previously. Once I leave the shop the front wheel bearing is now vibrating which it had not done previous to the visit. The premium part was a $116 and held in place by 4 bolts. They quoted me $786 to change 1 wheel bearing. I continue to drive the car and come back with a road hazard they refused to honor my road hazard warranty. The tires they sold me turned out to be the generic pepboys brand made to a lower specification then standard tires. They were supposed to carry a 60k mile tread life warranty however I only received 26k miles before they are ready for replacement. They would not replace the defective tires they sold me they claim this was normal for their tires and that I was abnormal for asking for the warranty on them to be honored I even went to the manufacturer's website which is Cooper and show them the Coopers warranty replacement policy and the manager Mike became very rude as he normally was kind of a rude guy telling me wrong information and when I asked him about it he give me a short attitude about it. Now trying to get a manager on the phone other than Mike the store manager and greenie who is the assistant manager who claims to be a major supervisor of the store is a terrible horrible joke on the human kind. Pep Boys hides themselves behind smoke and mirrors, hurdles to climb over, people to talk to and hoops to jump through just to try to talk to somebody who can press a button on a keyboard and fix your problem in an instant. I've reached out the corporate who doesn't take incoming calls. I've owned tires on my car most of my life. Never ever have I had a set of tires wear out so prematurely, never have I ever had such terrible customer service or support. All the stories you hear about mechanics scamming customers, is happening right here at your local Pep Boys garage! I was recently under the car to change my CV axles which are supposedly damaged again when I remove the factory axles what I found was absolutely appalling they were not leaking and the boot was not cut somebody took their pliers and undid the clamp that holds the rubber boot on and slid it back and put it back on loose so the rubber boot was not tight and you can actually see the tension mark where a clamp was previously when they were originally installed and where they moved it back to make sure that leaked onto my brakes. brakes burn the grease and make the car smell real bad. So, They convince me I need to replace a part that was still new. I replace both bearing hubs as well at the same time and found nothing wrong with them, at all. You can turn them no grinding. The one they claim was damaged you can shake it and hear loose stuff inside of it. After closer inspection it appears that somebody forced sand in with a flat head screwdriver. You can see the rubber damage where this was done, you could tell it was pushed in from the outside. These people intentionally and maliciously cause damage to my vehicle to give further money out of me. They are milk customers like cows and they're proud of it! They brag and laugh about it in the room while you wait. While I completed this work on my car I also noticed the tires were worn on the very inside only I have metal wires showing on the rubber. It's very clear that these bozos never put an alignment on the car. That is why its been pulling to the right. When I said something to them I was ignored. All of the outer tread on the tires still look brand new the inside 2 inches are worn down to the rubber due to a bad alignment why did you even charge me for an alignment if you had no intention of doing it. These boys are horrible save yourself some time go to a different shop. I will never step in a pep boys ever again and I can't wait to see them close their doors! if any of the CEO's up there wonder why their stock has been dropping just look at how horrible you service your customers how you steal and lie and cheat to your customers and why nobody can get ahold of you when is your problem. you're hiding behind smoke and mirrors as if you were a masked villain. read more

My car had to get towed Saturday night and my mechanic was closed on Sunday. I needed my car for Monday and knew it was a quick fix so I reluctantly decided to try a new mechanic. My power steering pump was broken and Pep Boys assured me that they would have my car back to me by close on Sunday. While trying to install a new power steering pump, they were delayed by having THREE die. That is a sign that the ones they are using are cheaply made and yet they charged me $200 more than the dealership price. They also tried to charge me for a second power steering pump, which was one of the ones that they broke entirely on their own. Additionally, they told me I needed a valve fixed for a leak and insisted it would lead to damage in the near future. When I asked how much that would cost, they said "only a few extra dollars" and then proceeded to charge me over $200 for "removing and replacing it." They then discovered a "new issue" that they tried to pass off as relevant to the pump, but is completely unrelated. When they said that would be an additional $1,000, I had enough. I picked up my car, which no longer had power steering at all, even though they had put a new pump in. After Pep Boys charged me an arm and a leg, I went to my mechanic and he was appalled by the cheap quality of the pump they replaced it with, how much they had charged me, and how my power steering was completely gone. I should have just waited until Monday to take it to my competent mechanic since Pep Boys kept my car most of Monday anyway and charged me an absurd amount of money. They were not only shady in regards to what they charged me for, but they also definitely took advantage of the fact that I was a young woman as they tried to give me different prices from when my boyfriend called. I will not be returning to a place that treats customers like that. read more

We are very dissatisfied with the service we have received at this Pep Boys. We didn't always feel this way. Previously we have purchased our tires for both of our vehicles from them. We have also had some engine work done by them on one of our vehicles. One of the things we liked about their service was we could bring our vehicle in and have the tires rotated free of charge. The last time we bought our tires back in 2014 we decided to buy the 80,000 mile tires. We had been bringing in our vehicle about every 3000 miles for tire rotation, which the guys at Pep Boys said to do. About 2 months ago, after going about 30,000 miles on these new tires we wanted to have them rotated for free, as usual. Pepboys refused to rotate our tires and said that the tread was too low so we would need to get new tires. New tires after 30,000 miles on tires rated at 80,000 miles! We said we didn't want new tires yet, thinking he was mistaken and just to rotate our tires. They refused to do it saying it was illegal for them to rotate such worn tire!. We told them we would just come and pick up our vehicle. We bought our vehicle at a local dealership and we get our oil changes free. We decided to not say anything but go ahead and have the dealership rotate our tires, even though we would have to pay for it. They rotated our tires for us and said nothing about them being too worn! They even put on their multi inspection form that our tires had plenty of tread left on them and marked them in the green box as still being very good tires!! We are so disappointed in our service at Pep Boys and will no longer give them our business, they have completely lost our trust. They will lose not only our business but everyone we have had conversations with about a good place to get tires, so others have decided not to buy from them either. Don't these companies know that with the internet and word of mouth they are hurting themselves when they mistreat their customers? They will not even live up to their own policy! I bought all 4 tires last July in 2014. I put approximately 20,000 miles on normal roads and highways. My van was maintained by another mechanic and tires rotated and checked alighnment all the good stuff as this is my work vehicle. I recently had my mechanic tell me I'm almost down the wear mark across the board on all of them and would need them replaced within the next two months. So I brought the Van back for the warranty ... I was told my mechanic wasn't taking care of my vehicle and they wore wrong and my van was tearing up my tires. And I said no my mechanic is down the street and knows you.. and the men all looked at eachother and I left. I called my mechanic and told him and quite upset he contacted pep boys in melbourne. I don't know what he told them but then they offered me 67 dollars a tire of warranty and it would cost me 410 to replace them.... it had only cost 500 to get them in the first place. I told them that was unacceptable .. so I called corporate. No response for a week, then the manager calls tell me 62 a tire and it would be 450.00 so I call corporate.. no response. So then I get a call from manager maybe I can just take the tires with me and get my own install... I said we shall see what that costs.. no response another week goes by I call corporate.... 4 days have gone by. I now have less than a month left to figure this out before I need to get new tires. Keep in mind also that a few months into these tires I was getting a vibration...... my mechanic checks ... all 4 tires out of balance.. I call pep boys at the store and they said they had a calibration problem and didn't know how far back it went... but never told anyone of course. This is a complete rip off .. as a single mom who needs this van up and running. I expected the tires to outlast the vehicle . 20K is not 80K .. and 1/4 of 500 is not 450!!! read more
