I have been a loyal Pep Boys customer specifically because of Frank, a mechanic who has always provided honest, high-quality work. Unfortunately, my experience with the new General Manager, Daniel, was completely unacceptable. On July 31 and August 1, I called to confirm if Frank was working before driving over for my appointment. When I called Saturday morning to double-check, Daniel answered with immediate frustration, saying, "Yeah, you called yesterday, and I told you already." When I tried to explain I was just confirming, he hung up and placed me on hold mid-sentence. When I called back to express that hanging up was dismissive, he told me I shouldn't bring my car to the store at all. When I asked for a manager, he stated he was the General Manager, then repeatedly talked over me until I hung up. As a woman seeking auto care, I already approach these shops with caution. This interaction left me feeling completely unwelcome. It is deeply concerning that this behavior comes from the person responsible for leading the store. Very disappointing experience at this Pep Boys location. I brought my Hertz/Uber rental vehicle in for a simple oil change service. At first, they told me to leave the keys and wait because the service would be done quickly. I waited for over two and a half hours while watching multiple other customers arrive, speak with employees in another language, and have their vehicles taken in and serviced much faster. Meanwhile, my vehicle was never even touched. Not once was I given a clear explanation or honest update about the delay. When I finally asked why my vehicle had still not been serviced after such a long wait, the staff responded very rudely and told me to leave and come back another day. Instead of handling the situation professionally, they became defensive and disrespectful. I understand busy shops can have delays, but ignoring a customer for hours without communication and then treating them badly when they ask questions is unacceptable. I went to this Pep Boys location on New Year's Eve around noon to get windshield wipers. It's more of a service center now, but they still sell items inside. The employee working at the counter was on his phone when I walked in. I gave him the make and model of my car and all I needed was the size of the wipers so I could purchase them and leave. While I was standing there, he received a phone call from another customer about brake issues and instead of placing them on hold or finishing with me first which would have taken less than two minutes, he continued helping the caller. I was left standing at the counter waiting with no acknowledgment. I ended up leaving because I don't appreciate that kind of service. If a customer is standing right in front of you, they should be helped before taking care of someone on the phone especially since my car was pulled up. I visited pep boys this morning, greeted the employee with a very kind kiss and expected him to be able to solve my five-minute problem. I just need an inspection paper. He replied in a very unpleasant manner that he tell me hi is busy and could not solve that problem. I asked him if it was only a 5-minute problem, what was my problem? I waited at the door for 15-20 minutes and no one worked for that employee. He was sitting in front of the office without any hunger and was waiting for that pen. Went to do an oil change exactly the same way I've done in the past. Brought my own oil. Last time at this location I was charged $35. At another Pep Boys before that, same price. Daniel, the manager, told me it would be $69. I asked him why. He said "Because that's what it costs." I said, "If that's what it costs why was I charged $40 here last time and $40 at another Pep Boys?" He flatly and impatiently said, "They charged you wrong." I began to say, "I hope you can understand my confusion---" when he interrupted me saying "And I hope you can understand this is what it costs." I started to speak again and he interrupted me again. This happened two or three mote times when I then said, "You're not even listening to me or letting me finish a sentence" and he spoke over me raising his voice saying, "This is what it costs with you bringing in your own oil." I said, "So that's what this is about? You're angry because you won't make money off the oil." He continues to interrupt me and raise his voice refusing to listen or let me finish a sentence. It became a shouting match at which point I told him I was reporting him to corporate and I would never return to this or any other Pep Boys ever again. I immediately called corporate and failed a complaint and was given a complaint number. I have still yet to hear from anyone at Pep Boys and this was a week ago. My car's tires needed to be changed. I usually go to Sears tire center but that is no longer a thing. Now I had to find a new place to go. Looking at some tire places in my local vicinity, I am a little skeptical. Knowing there are some shortcuts to get the cheapest price. This is one time I didn't want to make that decision. I thought of a well known tire place and gave them a call to find availability on tires for my car. I was told I would need to order them, then when they arrived the place can install the tires. While this is nice and a for sure thing, I wanted to get my tires installed that day. Here is where Pep Boys came through. I was able to get the tires and have them installed on the same day. While arriving first thing in the morning, my representative helped me get the process started. The job took a couple of hours which was 1hour more then was mentioned but its better than ordering, waiting, then installation. Made appointment online for oil change and tire rotation at 3:30 pm.Got a text reply that my appointment was scheduled. After almost 2 hours of waiting, the manager told me that they can only do oil change and if I want to do tire rotation, I will have to wait until 7pm.So what is the point of making appointment online if they are not going to do all the requested service. Had a bad experience today. Went in to have my tire pressure checked. Waited an hour and they told me nothing is wrong with my tires, no holes what so ever. They technician that looked at the car said that my tires has different pressure on it. They recommended that I just need to change my tires because I do not have good thread anymore. It blows my mind because I got my tires not too long ago. They did not even try to fix my tire pressure issue by adding air. I left pep boys with almost flat tire on the front wheel drivers side. However, the overall low rating for this shop is 100% due to the exceedingly poor communication skills of a Daniel Sanchez, the "gentleman" who took care of me when I first entered the stored, and completed my paperwork when the work on my vehicle was completed. Extremely unpleasant character, seemingly intent on arguing with me on every bit of minutiae that came up in our interaction. Very unprofessional. Since I saw that Pep Boys cares about their negative reviews by way of posting to every one of them, I was hopeful that they would take my review seriously. What happens here is they open a "case" and contact you via email but eventually they just forward it to the same shop to handle, who don't seem to care about making it right with customers. So in the end they really don't care. It's unfortunate that there isn't a regional customer service team or perhaps a regional manager that cares enough to step in and make it right. So I stand by my original post that they did treat us well, performed the repair properly and got us in quickly on a Sunday; however, I still feel as though they overcharged us. Not reliable. I took my car into this Pep Boys location over a month ago because I felt my brakes needed changed. I was told the brakes were fine and then two months later I went to another Pep Boys location for another repair and was told that the back brakes needed replaced immediately. I took my car in for an oil change and tire rotation. The guy behind the counter (Daniel) said I needed to replace my tires. When I told him I bought my tires brand new 2 years ago and they don't need to be replaced, he told me my tires were 6 years old and then sarcastically said whoever sold me those tires sold me used tires. How does this genius know they were used tires and when I purchased them? Then he said he wouldn't rotate the tire because my tires needed to be replaced. These guys at Pep Boys make up arbitrary information to upsell you tires you don't need and are willing to lose business over a simple tire rotation. Just brilliant! Also, they put 5w-20 oil in my car when I specifically asked the genius to put 5w-30. I'll be going back to my mechanic for an oil change and tire rotation.
