I read the 1 star reviews and got nervous, but I am glad I went. Frankie took care of me and Paul was the tech that explained everything to me and showed me the parts that were bad. Frankie was amazing. No pressure, told me the parts that were needed to keep me safe and did not upsell the other stuff. Even though there are other parts that will eventually need repair, they explained that I could go awhile yet and he just wanted me safe with what was needed. I wasn't treated like I had no knowledge, I wasn't uncomfortable, and I would go back here in a heartbeat. I went in yesterday and they weren't able to do the oil filter change at that time. I would have to wait an hour before they could take my car. So he said I could come back tomorrow and if I would like to make an appointment so I made an appointment for 10:00 AM today. I get there and Talk to the guy at the desk, give him my keys and get everything taken care of go back start reading my book and doing things an hour later I look out the window and see that my car is still in the parking lot, go speak to another guy there and he said that the other guy dropped the ball basically. And he gets my car in there within like five minutes if I didn't look out the window and see that my car was not worked on I'd probably be waiting much longer. The first guy quoted me a price of $78.88 total for the oil and filter change. The next guy says oh I'm gonna give you the discount $20 for the oil filter change and I thanked him for it and then when he gives me the total, the total was still $78.88 so he said oh well the guy gave you that price after he took the discount off. I said no that was the price I was quoted. He did not mention anything about any discount. But you just said you were going to give me a $20 discount which you did not or else the price would've been $58.88. After he's done backpedaling I just got so frustrated. I just paid. Also, I'm sitting right there and I get a text telling me my car is ready. He doesn't even tell me. He also gave me someone else's key. What the actual heck is going on here. Also, the sticker that they put on the windshield that tells you when your next service should be done from the company prior to them once thrown on the ground. They never threw it out. I will never ever go there again. After I spoke to the guy about me waiting for the hour the guy that came in after me was saying how he's wondering what's going on with his car his car which wasn't taken in either. He went further an oil and filter change as well. He came in right after me so they were doing the same thing to him as well, and I noticed that the window that they used to have open so we could see the mechanics working on our cars has now been glazed over so you can no longer look in there. I think this is a very shady place not trustworthy, unprofessional and a waste of our time save yourself a headache And stress and go elsewhere. Their "system" they use is so unorganized. the manager at this location was extremely rude and had no sense of management whatsoever. I had called to make a tire appointment almost 2 weeks before my actual appointment. They said they ordered the tires and would be in in a few days. Place changed managers. New guy buttered me up real good as soon as I walked in. That he was going to take care of me and treat me like family like previous managers Patrick Ceaser etc... was I in for a surprise. Went for alternator oil change new belt. $1500.00 almost had a stroke. I showed him coupons and he said he would honor only 1, even though they were for different jobs... And I said cancel everything else except the alternator his price we was $900.00 R U KIDDING ME???? Oh I forgot the new battery that was $200 not including installation. The battery sells at Walmart for under $100. His name was Kassim or Hassan whatever it was the price was absolutely ridiculous. Then he tried charging me a shop fee $35.00.... I would like to let you all know that I highly recommend this place, The manager Cesar is a really nice guy, he is very prompt when arriving, he takes care of the customers, he wants to make sure that you are totally satisfied with the work he does on your vehicle, If you are having any issues with anything he wants to do what he can do to help make sure that you leave with a smile. They do offer here a military discount to all, so I would really like it if my brothers and sisters would help keep them busy since they are look out for us. All the work is done efficiently and with care from there technicians, they make sure they use protection for your car too from seat covers and from floor mats. I do see he is always looking for mechanics too to help enhance your experience with this great place. Never again... My car had some issues on the highway, so I pulled in... This is an express type shop right on the highway...It's one of those places where you sit and wait for your car...I expect these type of places to do easy stuff - oil changes, tire rotations, brakes, etc... My issue needed diagnosis... I had a hunch as to what it was, but wanted a pro to look at it... They diagnosed correctly and quoted me a price ($350)...To which I agreed and waited... It only took about two hours, which isn't a bid deal - one hour was just waiting for the part to arrive...But when it was ready to pay, the guy charged me ($700) twice as much!.. WTF?!? "That was just for the part", he said..."Then there's an installation fee, a shop fee, a diagnosis fee, and a disposal fee"... What?!? I was pissed... But when I drove away, my wheel began making noises...(the wheel was taken off to access the part)... Price of the oil change went up by $20 from when I arrived to when my vehicle was done. Price was then adjusted back down. Oil change took two hours. Was told the tires were rotated (and was itemized on the services performed) complimentary with the oil change. Tires were not rotated. I would not recommend this pep boys. read more

The place is the only one close enough to my house and I have discounts there or I'd never go. The owner is arrogant and dismisses any complaint that it's not their fault. The absolute simplest step of covering a seat with plastic is never done which reflects on the way he runs the place. Always mark your tires bc they have not rotated when they said and absolutely check your oil after the oil change. Bottom line if there is corners to cut they will cut them and they genuinely don't give a sh*t about your car. Sad Pep Boys holds such a low standard but not surprised at all. How does a young mechanic install a license plate and minutes later it falls off my car on highway. Thankfully a police officer went back again to retrace steps and found it. How careless can they be. No need to provide my contact information more than this review. The screws your location are not the correct length to hold a license plate. That needs to be corrected or just don't offer the service. I also didn't appreciate the man at the counter imply the car wash up the road which was my next stop may have stolen the plate ! That's insulting and unnecessary. I inquired further of him on that comment when he was reviewing the camera to see what was done to install the plate ( and by the way interestingly it wasn't recording at that time aCcording to him). When I said the police hadn't heard of any such activity at the car wash he said well it could have been pulled off by the brushes. That car wash FYI uses cloth washers draped down not brushes! Wish I would have read the reviews first! Called on Monday and scheduled a 9am appt on Wednesday...show up on Wednesday and there is no record of any appt. oK. It happens. Rescheduled for Thursday. Dropped my car off at 8AM for my 9AM appointment...let the guy know I'll eat back at 5 after work. Got a ride to and from work, showed up at 530PM and was told my car was the next to go in! I HAD A 9AM appointment. While talking to the manager (who was sitting in front of his picture hanging on the wall) he couldn't care less. "Yup, you're car is next. I don't know what to tell you." Pep Boys was represented to me for an evaluation of an issue regarding the water temp light indicating that my 2011 Camry is operating in the hot range. Toyota told me that I would be charged $145 for an evaluation. Ultimately, I scheduled an evaluation with Pep Boys at Pompton Plains for a charge of $40. John explained how an evaluation is conducted. It sounded extremely thorough as he was quite knowledgeable about possible outcomes. They were busy so they gave me a complimentary ride home to my home and eventually the return trip. My car was evaluated for which no expensive problem was found other than the need for coolant which they provided free of charge. When I went to pay for the evaluation and labor I was told since my car just needed coolant they are not charging me. I was pleasantly surprised and felt respected. My car rides smoothly with no water temp issues or needle indicating hot. Thank you Pep Boys for the work and trust. read more

Place is horrible. One time I dropped the car off for an oil change and the place never opened for the day. Another time they said "whoever did the last oil change stripped the oil pan bolt" yeah it was you guys that did it because you did the last oil change. Last and final time I'll ever take a car to any pep boys was because the check engine light came on. Turns out the reason that light was coming on was due to a joint that needed to be replaced but they couldn't figure it out but still charged me $100. I show up 9 am and the guy says they don't have the tires. He says the website sometimes says they are in stock. Well that sucks. The customer service that you will receive if you are dealing with Paige is the reason for the five stars.You'll find her to be super helpful and super knowledgeable and she is extremely pleasant to deal with unlike most people you come across in the customer service field. I needed a battery ASAP. Googled closest location. And was greeted by the best staff. Actually had a woman mechanic named Tina replace my battery. Knew her stuff. Was super refreshing to have such quick and quality service. You don't see many females in this field and it was nice to be able to not feel like I was going to get pressured into something I didn't need. Overall the place was upfront about wait times, directed me towards coupons, and really nice group of people to talk with. You can tell they lived their jobs. read more

I ordered the tires I wanted on their website. The price was pretty good. At the same time I made a 9 am Sat appointment for installation online. I printed the order confirmation and arrived at the appointed time only to be told they don't accept appointments on Saturdays and they couldn't take me for another two hours. They verified that the tires I ordered were in, but since they refused to honor my appointment and I was unwilling to wait 2+ hours I told them to forget it and walked out. Thankfully I had chosen the option to pay at the store instead of ahead of time. Instead I drove few miles up Rt 23 to STS. There I received an equally good deal and was finished and on my way home 45 minutes before Pep Boys estimated they could even get to my car and that included a stop at a produce stand along the way. If they don't accept online appointments then why is that option available? I can't be the first person to ever try that here. read more

These people are scum bags! I went in there for an oil change a few days a ago. After a few hours , i received a call from them, telling me my car has been test driven and ready to go. So I go get my car, and on the way out of the lot i notice my breaks are dysfunctional!!!! I nearly got into an accident!!!! So, naturally, I go back In there to make a complaint..I was very calm in my approaches. I tell them what the issue is and the scumbag manager behind the desk (Jake) tries to tell me these things happen during routine break tests..and tries to make me pay for the repairs!!!!!!!!! Keep in mind, I went in there for an oil change...why did they touch my breaks?? So, after making my case and threatening to call their district manager they offer to fix It. All I needed was two new front tires. I did my research online and found a great deal for 2 tires for $30 per tire, plus the cost of installation. I set up my appointment and showed up the following day for it. Upon arriving, I was told the inventory wasn't correct on the website and "no one in the nation has those tires." Then my question is, why are they on the website? So the next prices tires were $25 more a piece. The only reason I went with Pep Boys was because of the inexpensive price online. But it was a total bait and switch. Here's my biggest problem though! When I came back to get my car, they told me whoever serviced my car previously had stripped the lug nut off the wheel and that I would have to take it back to them to replace it? But come on! We all know that the last person to touch is going to say Pep Boys did it. They compensated me with $30 off the bill, which don't get me wrong, is a nice gesture. But I had my two tires fixed which was my original problem. Now when I came back, I had a new problem with the lug nut. It's completely unprofessional to hand me a piece of my car and say, "this broke while we were servicing your car, but we didn't do it. Find out who did and make THEM fix it." So I talked them into fixing it, but they still want to charge me $20 for labor. At this point, I'm so disappointed with the whole experience, I just said fine, and let them hold my car overnight. As I'm writing this review, it's 2pm the day after. I passed by in a different car at 12:15 and saw my car on the lift. Then, at 1:38, I got a call saying "they don't have the part and will have to travel to Parsiappany to get it." Come on now. This is ridiculous. It's a lug nut. Follow up to my review of this place 9-30-2015. So I filed another complaint on the PepBoys website regarding the Sept. incident because no one called me the first time. Someone actually called the next day. His name was Jay and he identified himself as the area mgr. for that location. He apologized. BUT the story gets better. I really started to worry about the head gasket issue and knew I had to get this resolved. A mechanic I wanted to use in FairLawn said he was too busy, and couldn't do it. So I scheduled an appointment with the PepBoys location in Parsippany, NJ. My mother lives there, and I've been there a few times and liked them, so what the heck, let me have them diagnose the coolant leak issue. YOU KNOW WHAT??? TURNS OUT IT WASN'T THE HEAD GASKET AFTER ALL!!!! It was the thermostat and related sensors. I couldn't believe it. Now I really can't stand that Pompton Plains location, BUT the guys at the Parsippany location ARE GREAT and most of all HONEST. I dealt with a guy there (James Nam). What a great guy. Great phone etiquette, personable, and really professional. This will be the only location I'll ever go to. So I called the area mgr. again today (Jay) and told him how his guys at the Pompton Plains location are a bunch of thieves, and about how the so-called ex Ford mechanic (Josh) got it wrong when he said I needed the head gasket done. Jay told me Josh quit and went back to Ford, and that that Pompton store has had quality control issues. NO SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do yourself a favor, go to the Parsippany location. read more

I had a great experience at Pep Boys. My car battery died and left me stranded in a parking lot near their shop. I walked over to ask for help, and they were very receptive, even though it was close to closing time. One of the mechanics came over to jumpstart my car. He said that I could bring my car right over to check the battery. The battery needed to be replaced, so they did it for me right then and there. The assistant manager, Peter, was very helpful and professional, and he explained the pricing before the work was done. There were two mechanics that worked on my car, and both were very friendly and knowledgeable. I would definitely return here again. read more

Went there after calling to ask if they had a specific tire. They assured me they did. I went and realized after I got home it was NOT the same tire. With an all-wheel drive car that needs 4 same tires for good traction, this is NOT acceptable. I immediately called the shop and after they checked with the on-site manager, I was told that since it was a similar tire with similar tread I SHOULD be okay! No, this is not. I paid over $200 for the tire I requested. This is all they had! Then they should've told me they did NOT have it when I called! NOT install another one. They told me I could try and call the OTHER manager the next day to see what HE would say! No! I went to a local gas station and paid to have them remove that tire and replace it with my donut. I called Pep Boys corporate and filed a complaint! 2 days later I haven't heard back despite an email and 3 phone calls. Called again and was told I was being transferred to the area director and instead it was a voicemail. Left a message their. Haven't received a response on my email. It was a bait and switch. Should've put it on my credit card versus by debit and I might've been able to have them get my money back. Still going to try. Two (2) bad experiences here is enough. Yet again, made appointment on line yesterday for this morning at 11 am. A simple tire repair or replacement, a rudimentary job. The people who work there do not understand the meaning of an "appointment." It took three (3 ) phone calls and over two (2) hours just to have them look at my tire! So, the whole appointment thing is bogus, it doesn't matter if you have one at a set time. It is irrelevant. It got worse from there and after receiving a voice mail from the nearly catatonic manager, John, that the tire was in and we could come in and have the tire mounted, our time was again wasted. we showed up and no tire. no explanation, nothing. "Matt is in Paterson and we do not know when he will be back." These people do not have cell phones? i've been to two (2) other Pep Boys, one in Baldwin, NY and one on rt.17 @Rutherford. Both were fantastic. This particular Pep Boys is not run like the other ones that I have visited. I had a battery light flash on and off while driving through NJ on vacation and since it was Sunday pep boys was the only place open. They were slammed, and it was raining cats and dogs but they squeezed me in on a Sunday afternoon to get my alternator replaced. The prices are okay but what set them apart was the team there. I really appreciated the mechanic and service rep (Wilson and Paige) staying over an hour late to fix my car AND helping me find a place to stay for the night and a place to eat.
