My family has been getting all 5 of our cars serviced here for probably a decade at this point & have never had an issue. At some points it seems like we always have a car there getting something fixed, but they have always been loyal & give us the best deal possible. Extremely friendly and knowledgeable staff too. I had gotten into an accident and messed up my car pretty good, so I had taken it to a place to get a quote and the guy recommended I scrap the car or I would have to pay a boat load of money to fix it. Luckily, we took it to Pep Boys and they fixed it up for a fraction of the price and I continued to drive that car for years after. I will add some pictures below. Highly recommend this place. Outstanding Service at Pep Boys! The previous afternoon, my wife took her car, to a fast service oil change facility. For an oil change, fluid tip-off, and change of low beam/high beam bulbs. it was subsequently discovered that this competitor, incorrectly installed the bulbs! In fact, never adjusted the aim of the light bulbs! Never topped of fluids, as claimed! PEP BOYS saved the day! They corrected all the previous oversights. adjusted bulbs positioniing. My car broke down 2 1/2 weeks ago , so we called Pep Boys and they towed it to their shop. It is ironic because the tow truck driver knew what was wrong with the car as soon as we told him what happend. 24 hours later , still no reply on what was wrong. I called and the mechanic said he could find NOTHING wrong with the car so I told him what the tow truck driver said. It took 5 days and 1010 $ to fix the car . The communication between us and Pep Boys was HORRIBLE. NO updates , no phone calls, nothing. We had to spend money on an Uber just to go down and get an update. The guy at the counter said he called us , we checked he had the right phone number , which he did. But he lied , we never recieved any calls. There was only ONE mechanic on duty all 5 days. I called customer service , made a complaint and asked for the manager to call me back , again no phone call was ever made. Then 5 days ago as my husband is picking me up from having cancer surgery (my breast removed) , the car does the same exact thing , my husband called Ford and they said it was a safety recall issue. I called Pep Boys , told them what happend. The manager could not be bothered , did not apologize , he just said, bring the car in. WHY would I do that. So I can spend another 1000$ , I don't have and take away from cancer treatment. So I can spend over 200 $ in Uber again So I can be treated rudely. No thank you. read more

I dropped my truck off at 8:30am for an 8:30 appointment to get tires put on that I ordered from them. I had to call at 10:30 with the website not showing any updates at all. They said the tires are being put on right now and I then had to call again at 12:10pm and they said the truck is just now getting done to head on over. I had made an appointment for a standard oil change at 12:00. I have sat here for an hour and a half. Asked twice for an update on my vehicle. Everything advertises Pep Boys as a 30 minute oil change, I didn't ask for an update until an hour of waiting. After asking, he checked, but didn't update me. I had to then ask again. It's been an hour and 47 minutes for a simple, standard oil change. I'll never recommend this place nor will i come back. Not sure what the point of making an appointment was. read more

I would never recommend anyone to go to pep boys. My car sat a pap boys for over 2 months because it stop and I used their tow service. One the tow service was suppose to be 85 but only if I got my car towed and inspected their. so I did just that after about a week I was called and told that the fuel pump was damaged and needed to be replace. There was a company helping me pay for the repairs but couldn't because pep boys lied about giving them a certain number they needed for proof that their office were registere. After waiting for over a month the company was sent a bill for $1061 dollars after I was told it would be 960. The company never made the payment due to non cooperation with pep boys so I ended up paying out of pocket. When I went to pick up my car The workers were rude and also stole my boyfriend's tools out of my car. The same day I picked my car up it stopped again when I called they told me I could bring it back in but even if what they said was wrong wasn't the right diagnosis I would have to pay for whatever they tried next. Very helpful staff and more friendly than other top brand tire places in the area. I had a flat tire and when I went to the place where I bought my tires, I was told to make an appointment and bring my vehicle for repair. Well, I showed up here after that disappointing response and the guy here asked me for the keys of the car, brought it into the garage and in 5 minutes told me it had a puncture and it was already plugged. When I asked how much it was, he said it was a no charge. I was good to go! I was delighted of this customer service! Certainly they proved it to me by walking the talk. We called lots of tire places, and they were all too busy to take care of what we thought was just a small leak in our tire. Pep Boys told us to come on in, they would take care of us. We arrived 5 min later, and we had no wait! They got us right in. Unfortunately, our tire couldn't be repaired due to the location of a nail in our tire. Samantha said that they could replace it, but would recommend we have our dealership do it as ours is a new vehicle and would be covered under warranty. Wow, someone nice looking out for the customer and not talking advantage of us, awesome!!! They even offered to put a spare on for us. Hello, We took in our car for a routine oil change. My car has been operating fine and had no leaks when I took it to pepboys. Pepboys completed the oil change and we picked up it up. During pick up no issues were reported. We took the car home and parked it i in the driveway spot as usual. The next morning we notice oil on concrete. We took the car back and pepboys said it was the oil cap so they replaced it and said it was fine. We again took it home, and next morning again noticed oil again on the concrete! We took the car in again and now Ryan is saying it is both valve gasket covers. How??? My car was fine if it would have been the valve gasket covers don't you think that mechanic would have noticed that during the oil change? Or even the second time we took it back? How does my vehicle go from no leaks to leaking! I have been a loyal Client for years and pepboys customer service and quality of work has really gone down this last year. I am so upset my car is damaged and now pepboys is saying it will take $600+ repair to fix it! My car was not leaking if it really was the valve gasket covers from day 1 it was in it would have beeen noticed. It was not as I took them my vehicle in healthy condition and now have a repair I truely believe was caused by pepboys. I'd been having electrical problems with my car for about 6 months. I'd taken it to 2 other shops and both places couldn't figure out what the problem was. So,since my daughter works here I thought WTH. 2 weeks ago they changed out the battery and it lasted about a week. So I brought it back and John figured it out. The service department spent some time and serious effort to locate the part I needed. Apparently it's one of the last fuse boxes in the state. These folks rock,they are very good at what they do. My rating is no star. My wife bought a set of Cooper tires and had them installed. She has been back 4 times due to low tire pressure. The last time was longer than it took to get them originally. brought my car in to get a water pump replaced I was quoted just under $800 then when it was ready for pick up they told me it was over $1000. Also when I hopped back in my truck the check engine light was on when I turn the car on I walked back into the store and dealt with a man by the name of John and told him that the check engine light was now on which it wasn't when I had dropped the truck off. He proceeded to go in the back and asked the worker who worked on my truck. If he noticed the check engine was on when I drop my truck off, he told me it was which was a blatant lie . I went to Pep Boys last month for a broken headlight. I told them I wanted it fixed and they did a wiring inspection that I did not ask for and then told me that there were a lot of things wrong with my car and that it would be $400 to repair it all (there were no major issues). I told them to just fix the headlight, they did and charged me over $100 for the labor and the wiring inspection that I did not ask for nor was I informed about until after they did it. The headlight worked fine for a few days and went out again so I decided to take it to Ivan's Garage on East Main and they put in a new headlight and only charged $40. So if you want reliable and inexpensive service go to Ivan's Garage on East Main and avoid this place like the plague. read more

I stoped at the Portage store for a flat tire. The service rep at front desk had me pull into the shop area to check it out. I thought I might have just needed air. He took one look and said that was a flat and they need to take a look to see what the issue was. I kinda just wanted air because we were on our way to a tournament hockey game. He suggested that we have his manager come over to see what they could do. The manager came over and said he would quickly get it on the lift and see what the issue was. 15 min later he came back in the store and handed my a self tapping screw that was in my tire. Ruined two, $1000 wheels in one day. Total amateur's. If you value your wheels you better go somewhere else. I will be filing against them in small claims. I had two obviously very expensive wheels that were seriously damaged by this place while have tires swapped. Lucky for me I am smart and have the before photos to show when filing my claim. Stay away from this place or make sure you document the condition of your wheels before handing them over. Attempted to save my husband some time & effort, instead wasted my time. Came here to have my summer tires put on. Winters and summers are on their own rims, so simple take tires off, put tires on. Zip, zip, zip. I called ahead, sure we can get you right in right away. I was there in 10 min. Registered blah blah, they said it would be an hour. Seemed excessive, but ok. I'm the only one in the waiting room the whole time. After an hour plus, someone came & said, sorry, you'll probably want to go get a bite or something it's going to be a while more. How long? Not sure, we are having trouble with another vehicle we are working on in tandem. I explained I have things to do, he then says sorry, I have people at lunch. It's after 2pm. Im thinking, which is it, trouble with another car or people went to lunch. Either way this was legit the easiest job you could ask a tire place to do. I asked for my vehicle back. I brought it in to Pep Boys- on a Sunday, it's awesome that they are even open on Sundays- and they found that my brakes actually had 40% life remaining, and that brake dust was causing the high-pitched noise. Part One of This Review: I would like to start by saying I will not be bullied, pressured nor oppressed by anyone and I stand firm on what I have said as well as what I am saying now because it is the truth. Three weeks ago while getting one of my vehicles repaired, I asked about setting up an appointment for tire installation for my other vehicle. Joe/Joseph said that he could help me with that. I told Joe that I could just set it up online and pay for everything online but he said that the 15% off on 2 or more tires was also honored in store and that the price should be the same. He gave me a printout and I was all set to go for my appointment in a few weeks. Today I went in to get my tires put on my vehicle. Upon arriving Trevor and a technician was standing at the customer service desk. Trevor was helping someone ahead of me so I waited behind her. He was very pleasant with this lady and seemed to be in a good mood. When I approached the desk his mood suddenly changed because the expression on his face went from smiling to blank. He asked for the key but I told him I wanted to confirm the order and the price before I handed him the key. Thankfully I did because there were several discrepancies with the order that he had printed and the order that I placed a few weeks ago. I asked Trevor if he could explain the differences in the installation prices that I have in my cart versus the price that is printed in-store. His response "it's on the sheet". I can read and I see the prices were different but there isn't laid out in detail online and the price is cheaper online for the installation which did not make sense to me. He explained but it was clear that I had struck a nerve. I am always going to confirm the price because this is not the first time that there has been a difference in prices or work order with Pep Boys. Additionally, I questioned the statement saying that the alignment was marked as declined. I told Trevor that I never declined the alignment and that I did want an alignment but he said I didn't need it, so asked him why is that? He said I just probably didn't need it. I asked, why is it that I have been coming here for years for repairs and maintenance and every time I am told that I need my tires balanced and aligned after repairs and new tires. Now, that I paid for the 3-year alignment about 6 months ago you all tell me I don't need it because now I am not spending extra money. If I was paying for the alignment each time like I use to they always recommend the alignment but now that I purchased the 3-year alignment for my vehicle you all say that I don't need it. To me, it sounds like I am just being bamboozled. Weeks ago before and after working with Joe we had to work with Trevor and received the same attitude. A few weeks ago we received an attitude from Trevor, maybe because we were asking too many questions and wanted to see the old and new parts. There should not be an issue with wanting to see the parts that were taken off or the new parts that are being put on before the car is "buttoned up " as they would call it. That day I thought maybe he was just having a difficult day. This time absolutely not! I did not appreciate this treatment and this was the second time that I received the attitude from Trevor so I decided to make a complaint. I called explained the situation to the representative.I was told the Vince would give me a call to go over what happened. Upon arriving at the store Trevor said he could get us checked out and told us to meet him at the far counter. When I approached the counter Trevor immediately brought up the complaint. He stated that he saw that I made a complaint against him and he already removed it from the system. He also said that he was sent the entire transcript so that he could listen and he felt that I lied on him. We went back and forth for several minutes about what I said to the representative. Everything that I said was the truth, I have no reason to lie on Trevor. He did not want to give me the 15% off until I went back and forth with him initially and tried to show him the price that I was quoted. He said well it's not a big deal and I can just give you the 15% off then. If it wasn't a big deal why did we just go back and forth about the discount for about a minute or two? On the road for business and stopped for an oil change. I was quoted $39.95 plus shop fees, which seemed high. I questioned the guy, as it as a standard oil change, and with the extra fees would be more than $50. I ended up finding a coupon online for a $19.95 oil change, so I decided to have it done. After a two hour wait, I was billed over $40 with all the bullshit fees! I know it's not a or of money, but it's the principal of the games that they played. This review is from my wife visiting this location. She had said that she had a slow leak on one of the tires while leaving the doctors office. One of the many visits you have to take while being pregnant. Her first stop on the way home was Belle Tire. After stopping in there and being told that they couldn't fit her in today. Asked her if she'd be willing to come back tomorrow. She didn't even think about it twice. She was hungry and tired. She told the person at the counter (who also wasn't wearing a mask). Being new to Michigan, when my car was experiencing troubles, I wanted a service name I could trust. I had used Pep Boys several times back in California, and figured that I would give them a try here in Michigan. I have to say that I have never received better service than I have at this location. The employees are extremely friendly, polite and professional. I have always received prompt attention, and have never witnessed any employee sitting around or ignoring customers. They took the time to check my car completely and then spent time explaining to me - in simple terms - what was wrong with it and what repairs would be needed.They worked with me to find me the best possible deal, and when applicable, priced out different brands of products to find something that would fit my budget. The technicians took the time to make sure that the jobs was done safely, and correctly. It was evident that they took pride in their work, and that my satisfaction was a priority. I am aware that I am not always the most easy customer to deal with. I can be demanding and am often in a hurry. However, regardless of the time restrictions or attitude I may have given the employees, they still treated me wonderfully, and always got my car back to me within the time range I had specified. I have taken my car in 3 times in 7 months - all for substantial repairs (intake manifold, spark plugs and coils, check engine lights) - and have consistently had a positive experience, good service, and a more than fair price. My wife made appointment for 4 pm for the next day. After waiting until 4:15, she inquired of the staff if they were running behind. "Yes", he stated, "About a half hour. Making an appointment for 4 pm doesn't mean 4 pm. We're a full-service shop and we'll get to you when we can." Oh, really? "4 pm doesn't mean 4 pm" is exactly what he stated. Later it turned into, "It could be longer, like an hour". So... What exactly is the benefit or value to the consumer of offering or of making and keeping an appointment if Pep Boys doesn't or can't honor it? So she brought the car home as she didn't wish to wait and I returned with car for the appointment. It was still another hour before the car was in the shop and it was 6:00 by the time I left. For an OIL CHANGE. For $107.77. They stated a new air filter was needed which was agreed to, but a $20 fee for the filter PLUS a $25 "OUTSIDE PURCHASE" for the filter because THEY had to ORDER the filter from a local auto supplier because THEY were out of stock to fulfill THEIR OWN recommendation on top of the filter charge??? "Replace air filter package", they term it. I term it a goddamn rip-off scheme. There were several other customers waiting for very minor tire issues. One woman waited for 45 minutes before they informed her they couldn't rotate here tires. It sounded as if they staff were dealing on the phone with a couple of irate customers regarding repairs or quotes for repairs to their cars. The staff appeared overworked, understaffed and were uncommunicative- and even inter-personally with each other. The facility was chaotic, dirty, unorganized, while the disgusting restroom was a long walk to the very rear of the store through their own inventory and messy storage area. I demanded a discount for the inconvenience and inability for them to keep our appointment on time, and he resisted at first yet I was firm and he took 25% off via a coupon. As well, a 4-page printout on 14" legal paper seems unnecessary and archaic. Poor customer service in a poor facility that looks like where all the folks who get fired from other places end up working. We would never ever ever recommended Pep Boys to anyone for any type of vehicle service. We'll keep going to Uncle Ed's or to our local mechanic whom we can trust. read more

Took my car here to see what's wrong with the engine. Found out it's an intake valve issue which is fine. Told me it'd be 730 dollars on the phone which I couldn't afford so I said no to the repairs and picked the car up after paying the diag fees. I was shocked to look at the paperwork for the repairs to see everything ACTUALLY added up to about 580 and some change which I could have afforded at the time. So where is this other almost 200 dollars going? They also added in some twenty dollar warranty they never mentioned to me on the phone. This is why people don't trust mechanics. They have had my truck for a week, for a simple vacuum leak... Then after finally replacing the broken parts, they decided that my spark plugs just need changed, it will only cost me $350more... My Honda Pilot started leaking coolant a few months ago. I had Pep Boys diagnose the problem and they informed me that I needed a new radiator (well over 1,000 dollars). A few months later the leak returned. This time Pep Boys informed me that my gaskets needed to be replaced for another 1000 dollars. It's been less than a few months and the leak has returned. The employees are friendly, and the service turnaround is relatively fast, but my car is never completely fixed. I want my car to be fixed, but I don't want to give Pep Boys thousands of dollars a year to keep my 2007 vehicle running safely. I don't know if I should give this service center another chance to fix it right or look for a more competent business. read more

Came in complaining of my car shaking when I turned, and was confidently told that I needed to replace my power steering pump (a cost of upwards of $800). They didn't have the part, so I went to a Pep Boys in Farmington Hills, MI (where I'm living for the summer) and ordered the part there. Later on they told me that it the power steering pump did not need to be replaced and that whoever told me that it did didn't know what they were talking about and did not spend enough time testing the vehicle and just made a guess.
