Visited Sunday 3/22. my tire stem was clogged, tire wouldn't Llow any air in or out. Took the tire to Pep Boys and "Raj" helped me. He first swapped out the stem valve but that didn't work so he cut out the old stem and installed a new one and reinstalled theTPMS sensor and reset the tire. Whole thing took less than 5 mins. Raj refused to charge me. Raj is a good dude who did a good deed for a guy he never met before. Raj created goodwill and a return customer. Raj is a real credit to Pep Boys. read more

SCAM! DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY! I made an appointment here since they were advertising a free AC diagnosis, and upon arriving at the shop was informed that in order to truly detect the problem, I need to pay $62 for them to put Freon in the car and test things out. They told me I had 2 leaks and provided a long list of items that need to be replaced. They quoted me roughly $1,000. I brought it to my usual shop for a second opinion and they found absolutely nothing wrong with the AC system. No leaks & no parts that need to be replaced. And there wasn't an ounce of Freon in there - so essentially I paid for nothing. Turns out all I needed was more Freon. I am floored and happy I didn't spend anymore than the $62 I was already scammed out of. read more

"Come in the wait will be a hour" I was told. 3.5 hours later they hadn't changed the tire on my car and it wasn't even pulled around to the back. Only come here if you break down in the vicinity and there are no other options. They over promise and under deliver. They should turn people away like a respectable facility but no they are greedy, understaffed allegedly, and unorganized. Buyer beware. So angry I missed work and everything coming to this place thinking I was getting a good deal. The bad part is I've experienced an okay service here in the past. On February 19 2024 I took my car as always to Pep boy location in Lawrenceville, NJ for an oil change. I have gone to this location for years.  I received a phone call from them stating that the oil pan is damaged and they were going to fix it by using longer screws, and that it will last me till my next oil change.  This week, week of April 29th, my car began leaking oil. I took my car to my local mechanic as he is more reasonably priced than your company.  When I went to pick up the car, he informed me of 2 things :  1) Longer screws were never used, instead silicone was used, which caused my car to start leaking oil as it did not hold . I had to pay $415 dollars for an issue caused by YOUR COMPANY. It should have been fixed the right way to begin with, and not with silicone.  2) Someone, an associate of YOUR cooperation, had drawn a Penis with blue silicone on the oil pan. PLEASE SEE ATTACHED PICTURE. - this cannot be denied, as the blue silicone is the same silicone that was used to " fix" the oil pan From february 19, I have not taken my car to any other servicing till yesterday. If I had, I would have been made aware of the drawing a lot sooner.  It is an absolute shame and disgrace that Pep boys, whom I have used loyally despite other people talking badly about Pep boys , has treated a loyal customer this way.  I am absolutely appalled at the entire situation never ever using their service again . read more

We were on our way from Vermont to North Carolina and our oil pressure warning light came on telling us to stop the engine and repair. Luckily, we had gotten off the highway and at 5:00 we're able to find an open car service station on a Saturday before the Labor Day and it was Pep Boys in Princeton, NJ. They told us that if we could get there by 6:30, that they would take a look and make sure we could continue our trip. They first found a large mouse nest under the manifold cover and removed that. They then determined that our oil pan area was dry and not leaking oil and reset our oil pressure sensor. All for no charge, telling us to pay it forward. Across the chain an 8:30am "appointment" apparently means "we'll get to it sometime today and we don't really care if you're waiting or not." Basically Pep Boys corporate needs to rehaul this store. They've stopped selling parts, so 80% of the store is empty; there are just the service bays in the back and a truly miserable waiting area inside. No AC, chairs with fabric torn and hanging down, no restrooms, water fountain covered in a garbage bag. You can make an appointment but they're wildly understaffed and I was told my repair - literally replacing two headlight bulbs - would take around three hours. I was told the headlight tech would be in the next day but it would probably be an equally long wait. I bailed and went to Jiffy Lube in Lawrence the next day. Out in half an hour and a nice waiting area. If PB wants to keep this store open it needs to remodel the whole store and hire techs. It needs to have enough staff to turn around appointments in reasonable times, and it needs to have basic amenities like climate control and restrooms and water. Otherwise tear it down and make it parking for the Wawa coming in next door. read more

Wife took her 2018 Tiguan here for an oil change as our family's mechanic was fully booked. During the check in here, my wife wasn't sure about the year of her car and other details. She wanted to wait and was told it would be 2 hours. 3 hours and $110 later, her car was ready. The day after this service, my wife noticed that her car would occasionally lose power when she was driving it. At one point the car completely stalled on the NJ turnpike and my wife was almost rear ended with our kids inside. We took the car to our regular mechanic. His diagnosis was the following- The fuel-injection harness had been partially disconnected. He said that this was unusual and suspected that the mechanic at Pep Boys must have done that either by being careless or intentionally, hoping my wife would need to return for the much more expensive service. As the fuel injection harness would not need to be touched during a routine oil change, we believe that this was malicious. After the harness was repaired- Our routine oil change at Pep Boys, cost us over $700. We have no trust in this establishment. Obviously we will never return here. read more

We had been visiting my parents for the weekend of 4/5 and unfortunately got a flat tire on Saturday night 4/6. Needing to head back home the following afternoon, I took my car to this Pep Boys to get that tire as well as all of the other ones replaced. We worked with Greg and the service desk, and he helped get the tires change promptly, so we wouldn't have to alter our plans. Do not come here if you can avoid it. We bought a new tire here because we had a flat and no spare. This new tire would become the spare. It was a rainy night, we were at the mall and we had a flat tire. Our spare tire was also flat, so we rented a car from Enterprise, because they pick us up, and then we took the tire to the closes tire place to where our car was, it happened to be this Pep Boys store. We left the wheel there and would pick it up the next day or so because it was late and the next day we were going out of town. The Pep Boys removed the old flat tire from the wheel (rim) and replaced it with a brand new one we bought from them, we thought it was a good deal at a little less than one hundred dollars. We were out of town in our rented car and came back two days later at which time we picked up the new wheel. We drove to the mall where our car was and I replaced the wheel. As I drove my car, my wife drove the rented car. I noticed that my car was making a strange sound but thought nothing of it. The next day my wife drove our car and was totally freaked by the sound so we went back to the Pep Boys where we were told, and I'm paraphrasing here, "that's normal. Whenever you get a new tire it will make a sound for a day or so but it will disappear". Well we drove the car for a week, me having to listen to my wife's concern about the sound. Finally we took the car back to the Pep boys and told them that the noise was not going away. We were then told to bring the car in the next day (today) at 8:00 am. After we dropped our daughter off at school, my wife and I were on our way to the Pep Boys. En-route there I decided to see what kind of reviews were written about this Pep Boys store and found that it had 6 (six) reviews all of which were negative. So, needless to say we bypassed the Pep Boys and took our car to Mieneke were the situation was assessed. Had we listened to the advice of the Pep Boys and continued driving our car until the noise disappeared we could have had a fatality. The wheel rotor protective shield was slicing into the wheel (rim) and had we not remedied it when we did it could have been bad. Pep boys did not even bother to look at our car to determine what the noise was. They told us to keep driving it, potentially putting our lives at risk. All they had to do was look at the car, it would have been an additional job for them and we would have been at ease. NEVER GOING TO PEP BOYS EVER AGAIN. I read more

They changed my pads but they tell me I needed new control arm bushings at $300 a pop..I needed 3 according to them. Searched online and found the part for $35 apiece. Went to my local guy to do the work and he said there's nothing wrong with them. He warned me that when business gets slow, some shops resort to ripping people off. I don't post bad reviews lightly. Without an appointment she took care of me and told me to go see DAve. Dave told me what oil to Buy and I came back and he made sure I had the right amount of oil. I was in and out in 10 minutes. Getting an oil change is. routine and I'm always looking for the best price. I had a $20 off coupon. I have a 2015 Chevy sonic very small car; still with the $20 off coupon still cost me $63.69. Little surprised with the ratings on here. Because I had probably the best service I've had ever at a repair shop/Service center right here. Making an appointment was very easy online. And almost immediately the service manager (forgot his name) called me to let me know "Hey I know your appointment is 1pm but we're little backed up, so might take longer than expected." Most places don't even do that, let alone even tell you they're backed up. The places I've gone to (authorized dealership etc.) usually just assume you know it's gonna be a long wait. I arrive 15 minutes before my appointment and was greeted right at the service desk. Check in was easy and literally took maybe 3 minutes tops. He said "we'll text when it's ready". It was a rough estimate of 90 minutes. I step out next door to eat something at a restaurant, and 30 minutes later my car is ready! Now I know there's a lot that attributes to this, like people not showing up for appointments but it was nice to get that notice. When I come back, it was the same A+ Service, this time by the service manager himself. He checked me out, made sure everything was good to go, and I was on my way! Seriously the best oil change experience I've had ever, and this car has 234,000+ miles on it, so I've had a lot of oil changes on this baby! I read some of the poor reviews. A lot of them were based off pricing? That shouldn't reflect in the yelp rating. Because you should know the price before you agree to them servicing your vehicle. So that's on you!! Brought my car in for new tires, alignment, and oil change. I was sent home with a car with two bleeding back brakes that could have stopped working at any time and killed me. The fluids were not checked, let alone changed, the alignment was never performed, and the over $1000 in extra work, including all brakes, that they called and authorized was performed defectively. I went back in and talked to Shawn, the manager, who did set up and pay for a checkup at my Toyota dealer. It was only there I found out that the brake lines in the back were cross threaded and the car was too dangerous too drive. Shawn did end up refunding the money for all the work that was done other than the tires. I still can't give them more than one star as they sent me out with a car that could have killed me, with services that were either not performed or performed defectively and dangerously. I don't know why I didn't listen to the reviews. I went here on my lunch break to get a simple oil change. I asked how long because I had meetings I needed to get back for. He said within an hour so I though that was fair. I walked next door to the Princetonian Diner to get a bite to eat while I was waiting in order to make the best use of my time. I had a salad and a drink and when I came out of lunch, my car hadn't even moved from where i had parked it. This was an hour and a half ordeal. I was very happy with their commitment to take care of my car. My service rep was Jen, little lady with big nails, and my mechanics were Tom and Adam. I came in for tire pricing, Jen was very professional and gave me options and explained the difference between tire and warrenties. I came in close to closing and was going to come back for the install. Unfortunately my tire popped when I left and had to turn around. I though I would've had to stick to my spare till the next day, but boy was I wrong. That little lady had the place running like a nascar shop. Everything was quick, accurate, and professional. The mechanics were friendly(rare) and stayed after after closing to make sure all my tires were installed and made sure my car was completely safe to take home. They didnt have to help, it would've been socially acceptable for them to tell me they didnt have time and send me on my way but Jenn, Adam, and Tom worked well as a team and were committed to providing a great customer experience. At the end, they did a great job and that convinced me to become a loyal customer. I highly recommend giving this place a shot, seems they learned a lot from past reviews, great place. read more

Dropped off my car here recently for an oil change and tire rotation, and specifically told them that my front right tire was leaking air. I bought these tires from Pep Boys so I expected them to thoroughly check for and fix the cause of the leak. When the service was done, my receipt noted that the tire rotation was completed and they said nothing about any leak. Two days later, the same front right tire is still leaking air and noticeably becoming flat (no other tires are leaking). I'd bet any amount of money that they never checked/rotated my tires. My advice is to stay at the store and watch these guys work on your car. Otherwise, you'll pay for services that were never done. read more

Not an easy task. Gave me a 100% accurate estimate no BS. No weaseling. Very direct and accurate. Then car wheels balanced. Tires installed right. Nice price for primo tires Such a nice ride now. Pep boys are worst in this area. I took my car there for a noise in the front and the recommended full oil service. That didn't fix the noise. Later too it again. This time they said it was related to sepentine belt and ac belt which I had replaced it less than 6 months ago. So got it checked with two other places and found it it was related to bearing. Had I known it before I could have couple hundred dollars and time. Never going back there. Also when they have a quote for brakes they have an estimate for parts higher than other places and higher than their own store which they share in the same location. read more
