Definitely should have checked the reviews before I came. I had a great experience at the Jersey City pep boys, so I naively thought this place would be similar. Upon entering, I approached the employee behind the register. He rudly informed me he was helping a different lady. No problem. A few minutes later another employee arrived at a different cashier and I approached him. The original employee barked that the lady he was allegedly helping was next. Strange. A few minutes of the original employee standing around later, he said he can help me. Makes no sense. I asked for the oil change, and he quoted me a price that was not in line with the normal Pep Boys price. I challenged him on it, and he refused to admit his mistake. I promptly left and will be visiting another place to service my car. No way I'm leaving my car in the hands of shady people like that. Stay away from this business. They damage your car and then make you pay even more to fix the damage they did. They asked me for $1700 for a general check up, and when I picked up the car it wasn't even turning on. They said it wasn't their fault and wanted to charge me an extra $500 to replace the battery. I had getty on Route 1 fix it and they charged me $110!! By the way, go there, they're really good and most of their business comes form the damage done at Pep Boys. read more

Let me start off by saying this is my first negative review of a company and/or franchise I have ever created and I'm 27 years old. I experienced the worst customer service in my lifetime. I scheduled an appointment for a wheel alignment online on the Pep Boys website. I received a call from an associate explaining that my original scheduled appointment on a Friday could not be fulfilled due to lack of workers. I wasn't too upset because I know these issues occur and it wasn't the guy's fault. We rescheduled the appointment for two days later. That Sunday, I went in to my appointment and waited a little over an hour just to find out there was about 6 things wrong with my vehicle and that they could not perform my wheel alignment due to the issues with my car. They quoted me around $2,100 to get everything fixed, not including the new tires they said I needed. Knowing that my car did not need all of that work done at such a ridiculous cost, I ordered parts online for about $475 and paid a friend $300 who is a certified mechanic to fix it for me. Meanwhile, I made another appointment with Pep Boys for the following Friday which unfortunately I could not make. The next rescheduled appointment was for two days later again. That Sunday I go to Pep Boys, wait for about 30 minutes for them to tell me they can't perform the wheel alignment AGAIN!!! I told them that I got everything fixed that they previously told me and that they printed out to me on paper, so there was no way this service couldn't be done. You know what they told me? The reason they couldn't perform the wheel alignment was because there are some damaged lug nuts on my wheels. I could not believe they waited until this point to tell me of such a basic issue and reason why they couldn't perform the service. I then asked, how about I buy some lug nuts from the store to get the job done? The woman told me that they would have to order them and that she would call me and give me the pricing the next day, because there are NO LUG NUTS in the entire store (sarcasm)! I examined my wheels and I saw that 2 out of 20 wheel lug nuts on my car were indeed damaged. I understand that my vehicle may have a special type of lug nuts that the store does not have in stock, so I gave in and waited. No phone call came so far today from Pep Boys, so I decided to call them instead. After speaking with another guy, he asked me how many lug nuts I needed and I told him only 2 new ones are needed, so I asked for maybe a pack of 2 or 4 maybe just in case. The guy tells me I have to buy 20 of them and that they are $9 each, which would add another $180!!! Throughout the entire ordeal, I was calm and collected and never raised my voice or disrespected anyone because that's not my nature. At this point, I had enough of the terrible service Pep Boys provided me! I'm done with them trying to up-sell me and take advantage of me! This literally ruined the entire franchise to me. I will NEVER go back to Pep Boys ever again! If I were you, I would completely avoid ever going Pep Boys. read more

Stay away from this service. I took my 2001 Dodge Van in to get some work done: passenger window motor, rear windshield motor, front brakes, hubs, oil change... spent more than $1,700. As soon as I drove off, the van electrical started acting up: radio would turn on after a minute, same for windshield, lights would turn on and off, battery light was on and off... all signs of bad grounding connection (did they forget to connect a wire or two?). I took the van back and was informed that I was supposed to pay another $500+ because the alternator had gone bad! I complained with their customer service, but was simply told that there was nothing they could do and it was not their fault that the electrical did not work properly any longer... Looking for a more reliable (and trustable) auto repair service now. read more

I have been a customer at this Pep Boys location since 2000. Have had 3 of my vehicles and 2 for my wife serviced here during this 12 year period. They have always done a good to great job for me. Have often used them as an alternative to 'dealership' service dept. Service has always been courteous, friendly and professional. Always appreciate their consultative approach and identifying ways to maximize my service/repair dollars. They recommend the right products for my vehicle. Only once have i ever had any problem with a product (not service) - they conducted brake service based on recommended specifications. The pads squeeked after several days of driving. They replaced the pads with a higher quality product as no additional cost. I particular, Zane and Shawn have been the two i've dealt with most often. they are great!!! Very satisfied Lancer owner! Listen to the bad reviews you find here. We have been going to this place for years, despite bad experiences. But today I finally had enough. First of all, I went there in the morning, and saw how the mechanics are pulling the cars into the shop. It's like they are hotrodding them, they have absolutely no respect for other people's property. Next, they replaced the tire on our RAV4. The tire cover in the back already has a deep scratch from where my wife closed the garage door on it, we are in the process of getting it fixed. But now the cover has a myriad more scratches on it, like it was carelessly placed on the bare floor with the painted side down. We called pep boys, and they told us the reviewed the video and that the mechanic could not have scratched up the cover. But my wife and I just detailed the car yesterday, since we are planning on trading it it, and these scratches were not there, we are both sure about it. I could also list many ohter instances we had there, such as being talked into doing an alignment after we had some tires installed, pretty sure now that was unnecessary as well, and they often not being able to complete work as scheduled. So in summary, they don't treat your car with respect there, so stay away. read more

I've been coming here for several years for regular oil changes, minor work, parts, and supplies. The parts department usually has what I need, or can get it in a day or two. I find the prices are comparable to the prices I find for the same things online. No one has ever treated me like I'm a clueless woman, which I really appreciate. I see there are alot of negative reviews for the service, and I understand things go wrong occasionally, but all my experiences with service have been great. I bring my car in regularly for oil changes, and I try to go when it won't be as busy. I usually go to the diner nearby or shopping, and if they come across something that needs attention they call right away for approval. Sometimes they are finished sooner than the timeframe they give me! read more

Had an emergency with bad battery. Hoped to wait until Monday appointment, but battery died twice in 24 hours. I drive my husband to work at a school district at 5:00 AM, so waiting wasn't an option. It took 6 hours. I kept getting different stories about the two cars in the bay and mine was next. When I finally got upset, they blamed me for coming in. Im 70+, spent my Saturday walking to local malls to try and be accommodating to their schedule issues. Its a battery folks. I guess i should have bought it and put it in myself. read more

One is the minimum. Wholly deserving of a ZERO. Made a 7 pm appointment for an oil change on June 18th and dropped of at 3 pm. No call till 8 30 pm so called them. 15 min waiting. Guy comes online and says "Its in the bay but will finish off tomorrow morning". I need it by 930 am to go to work. "No problem sir. will be ready by 9am." Reach at 9 30 am on June 19th and viola...the car jas not been touched. Manager claims they have no control over online appointments and does not reflect their capacity. So false advertising, appointment is ficititious and the cherry on the cake everybody lies. Just tell mw the truth and i would have respect. My son recently bought his first car - a 2002 Explorer in great shape, but understandably needing a few items fixed up. First up was a set of struts and springs all around, and we priced these out at several places in the area, finally coming to Pep Boys. We had found an excellent price for the struts online via Amazon, and my son spoke to the "assistant service manager" at Pep Boys who told him that we could bring in the struts and they would install them for $25 a piece. That sounded like a great price -- too good in fact -- so I went back with my son to get a formal quote. This time, with me there, the story was different. First - if we brought in our own parts (Monroe Quick Struts -- still in original packaging), they would not warranty anything, even if they damaged the parts or car during the installation. Also -- the $25 quote was totally wrong, and was appropriate only for shocks -- not struts. Strut installation would have been about $500 all around. The only alternative they offered was to let them order the parts -- at full list price, about $190 vs the $127 price (each) we got from Amazon, and STILL have to pay $500 for installation. Not sure if this was incompetency or bait and switch, but it was a bad experience all around, and needless to say we didn't go with them. More recently, my son needed to replace a single courtesy light under his rear view mirror, and thought he could trust them with a simple item like that. Sadly, within 10 minutes of getting the Explorer in the bay, the mechanic had actually broken the light cover -- apparently because he didn't know how to remove it properly and simply forced it. The manager told us to go to Ford, get it fixed and bring him the bill. My son went to Ford -- and learned that the cover can't be purchased separately -- an entire new rear view mirror would have to be purchased and installed. My son opted out for now. Another pointless and very disappointing experience with Pep Boys -- and the last time we'll consider going there for anything other than purchasing parts off the rack. With regard to service -- I advise staying away. read more

This is the first rating I've ever given because I downloaded this app to give a rating because it was an absolutely terrible experience!!! If I could give negative stars I would. This is the second time I have gone to this location as the he second time that they have not fixed what I have asked for and have come up with things to fix that are not broken. My car is seven months old- I had a flat tire from driving over a screw. I asked for a tire repair. I then got a phone call saying that they could not repair the tire and all of my tires need to be replaced because they are at 5 tread. First of all tires get replaced at 3/4 tread. Second of all with less than 9000 miles that is extremely unlikely. I call back and let them know I am going to pick up my car to take it somewhere else to get a second opinion. The guy on the phone says that's totally fine. Then he says huh I wonder why they have you on here for four tires instead of one.... wow. I go pick it up and take it to Honda of Princeton. Today I get a call from Honda of Princeton letting me know my flat tire is not in the trunk of my car! I call pep boys to ask why my tire is not in my trunk and why I was not told that they kept my tire. I ask if they still have it or if they threw it away. I was asked to wait and then told they still have my tire. I went with a friend to pick it up, take it to Honda, and then waited to see if they could fix the tire and what the tread on the other tires are. Honda could repair the tire and my tires were all at 10/9 tread - brand new where they should be! Pep boys straight up lied to try to get $700 from me to replace basically brand new tires! It's completely unethical and very disturbing. I would recommend going literally anywhere else. read more

This store has been nothing but positive! I had to change out a bad wheel bearing on my car, and I wanted to do all 4 as preventative maintenance. They were out of stock on 3 out of the 4, but were MORE THAN WILLING to help me by calling store after store to source where the last 3 were, all while maintaining that I needed these parts yesterday. There was an issue of finding the second front hub/wheel bearing assembly, and they were gracious enough to substitute the only available part with a price match for the other OEM parts. After receiving the parts from them, there was an issue with one hub being a dud from the factory.Without hesitation they happily replaced the part, and were able to resolve the issue smoothly. Brittany, one of the managers was extremely willing to help, understanding, patient and very easy to work with. The other store managers, Jason, Shawn, and Jennifer(?) were also extremely helpful and understanding throughout the process. With Advanced Auto (rt 27) and the North Brunswick store being the next closest auto parts stores nearby, I will never choose them over this particular store. Advanced auto never has parts in stock, and even when inquiring, they don't even offer to order them for you. The North Brunswick store has been very unprofessional in the past, and are not even close to the willingness to help as the Princeton store. I'd highly recommend this store to anyone in the area looking to source parts, or even service your vehicle. The service staff was just as willing to help upon my return when I needed an alignment after changing wheel bearings, and they will answer any questions regarding what is involved with the service. JUST ASK and they will tell you what you will be charged for. Keep up the great work and awesome attitude guys! read more

For anything car repair, GO SOMEPLACE ELSE!! DO NOT (NOT!!!) get involved under any circumstances with this branch of Pep Boys. Their scheduling system is terrible and the biggest waste of time for the customer. They cannot commit to any particular slot, even with appointment. Reading earlier comments it's obviously a persisting problem. Pep Boy's responses are just hot air. In addition, their repair work itself is awful - they couldn't even get my tires mounted right. I gave them two chances to take care of the problem (went there again, waited, ...) but it's still unresolved. I typically go to Pep Boys for all my car shenanigans and I never have any issues. Yesterday I pulled in to buy oil and I saw that they had free air for my tires! I was pumped! Free air- that's awesome! So I went to fill my tires but the pump didn't have a pressure gauge on it... so I couldn't actually fill up my tires properly. Which is disappointing and a little ironic that they promote servicing and taking care of your car, but don't give you the proper tools to do so. I hope they fix the pump/gauge soon, I can't be the only customer disappointed when they noticed it. read more

I stopped into Pepboys to have a wheel alignment done on my Mazda 3 2004 because my steering wheel was shaking very bad. Ive had work done on it before at a separate auto place a year back so I am familiar with the conditions and the causes. They had my car for two hours which I can understand because they were behind on work. When they called they said they could only do the job if I were to replace two new front tires as both were horrible shot. This was completely untrue as I had checked the tread of my tires brand new and they are 11/30 seconds with a tire thread depth gauge and both were not even 50% worn yet with an 8/30 seconds. I knew this and then questioned him about the back tires and they said they were even worse....funny thing is the treading on those are even BETTER because they are TWO months old with a treading of 10/30 left :-). Amazing how horrible of a improperly trained, uneducated, and unethical staff they have working at the West Windsor location. I hear monkeys are smarter :-) read more

First off, the service was excellent, friendly and attentive. Second, I had a tire blow out on the turnpike yesterday and NEEDED a new tire. I went to a local mechanic in east Windsor who said he wouldn't do it cheaper than $150+ a tire AND I needed 4 not just 1. So I went home, had a second opinion from my boyfriend and shopped around online. Pep boys had the best price, warranty, and overall best option. It took a little over and hour but they were busy when I got there. They did an excellent job and answered all questions I had. 10/10 read more

Shawn the srv mgr is all about the bait and switch. Quotes one price over the phone and whem i got there wanted to charge almost 50% more. Then reduced it to 20% over the orig quote. Unhelpful and rude. I don't recommend it at all. Had low tire pressure. Inflated 3 at gas station, but one was still dangerously low and the tire cap was missing. Stopped in. The woman in the front said they couldn't even look at it for 3-4 hours. Then told me that depending on what they discovered, they may need to order a part so she couldn't say whether it would take more than a day. I left and drove to National Tire and Battery (just a bit further down Route 1 South)- they were amazing... responsive, immediately looked at it and confirmed the problem was the gas station's air pump, not my tire. National Tire and Battery checked the pressure, filled the tire that was still low, and provided a cap (for no charge) all within 5 minutes of my going there. Go to National Tire and Battery, not Pep Boys. read more

Really awful pricing - check online first to see what your service should cost, order parts yourself, and find a better business. For instance, you'd save $50-$100 on a simple battery change by purchasing your battery at Walmart and performing the installation yourself. Walmart also gives you a $12 rebate for recycling your old battery there. Online they make it seem as if the installation fee would be pretty reasonable (http://www.pepboys.com/service/preventive_maintenance/battery_installation/), but don't expect it to be a mere $15. read more

Pep boys changed the brakes on my car. Immediately after, we noticed oil leaking and returned the car to Pep boys. Pep boys noted they were aware of the issue and it may have been due to them lifting the car to change the brakes. As a result Pep boys changed our oil pan for free. Fast forward 2 months, our car brakes down. All power to the car just dies on the highway. We had the car towed to the nearest dealership and the dealership noted that the oil cap was not put on and they found it under the hood and that the oil over time has been slowly coming out and leaking over the alternator which caused it to fail. Because of that the alternator, battery needed to be replaced and we had to pay to have oil cleaned off the engine and underside of the hood. We hope Pep boys will step up and reimburse us for their negligence. Our initial contact with Pep Boys is that they don't feel they are liable for their negligence in this case. read more

I've only been here for service, but wasn't impressed. They had very few tires in stock that fit our car, except for the Pep Boy store brand (can't remember what it was called - something starting with a 'D'). We wanted Goodyear Wrangler tires, so they ordered them, but they said it would take a week to arrive. We ordered them, but then the day before they were supposed to arrive, the store called to say they would probably be late. We finally got some brains and went directly to the Goodyear store (not sure why that hadn't occurred to us before) - they had the tires in stock, and put them on in less than an hour with less than a day's notice. When the tires finally got in to Pep Boys, it was a day later than the already-excessive week we were initially quoted. I may be back to buy supplies, but not for service. read more

I had a good experience working with Samantha the front desk tech and Mo the mechanic on a recent Sunday morning. I was in Princeton (my son was competing in a multi day sports tournament), and I started hearing the right rear tire of my car making a loud thumping sound as we were about to leave the tournament. It was going to be a TWO hour drive back home from this tournament so I didn't want to risk driving home with that issue. I called the local Pep Boys who were open on Sunday morning, and they suggested I bring the car in. They did warn me it could take up to 3 hours to evaluate and fix the issue since they were busy. My son and I sat with our luggage in the waiting area watching TV and fully expecting to be spend our Sunday afternoon there. Luckily, Samantha and Mo were super helpful and efficient. Samantha walked me through the possible issues and solutions, and Mo identified and fixed the issue (loose lug nuts on the rear right tire). Mo even drove the car with me so I could hear that the thumping noise was gone. We were out of there in about 1.5 hours and feeling safe for the long drive home. read more
