Response to Pep Boys comment: As mentioned, I already opened a case 2 weeks ago with corporate and have since escalated with corporate multiple times with no response or resolution. I had horrible experience at this Pep Boys location due to misdiagnosis, improper installation of an incorrect part, and lack of accountability. I brought my vehicle in for a simple battery replacement. Carl, the store manager, insisted I also needed a new alternator for an additional $600. A second-opinion inspection from another mechanic confirmed a new alternator was NOT needed. Pep Boys: - Installed the wrong battery type and incorrect group size - Failed to program the battery after installation - Charged an unexpected $150 installation fee (normally free), in addition to a $250 battery -- totaling $400 for a basic battery replacement - Stated my vehicle required an unnecessary repair that would've cost another $600 RISKS: Installing an incorrect battery type (such as a non-AGM in a start-stop vehicle) or wrong group size can cause serious electrical issues, including alternator damage, ECU failure, or a no-start condition. Despite multiple calls and emails to the store and corporate--along with providing photos and documentation from the second inspection--Carl has been unresponsive and unwilling to resolve the issue. It has been over two weeks, and I am still escalating to corporate to obtain a $500 refund. Had I followed Pep Boys' recommendation, I would have paid an additional $600 for an unnecessary repair, and the incorrect battery they installed could have caused further costly damage. Went to get all 4 tires on my truck, drove by the bay and noticed they had put the wrong tire size on the truck, stuck my head in to see if what I was seeing was accurate (in a time pinch) and was shoo-ed away by security. They apologized and said the tech wasn't paying attention which it happens but then I notice 2 valve stem covers missing. Sloppy service. The employees at Pep Boys were very kind and answered all of my questions. The cost of labor for an alternator installation on a 2010 Honda Accord LX 4C is $185 out the door. Eric greeted me over the phone before I brought my car in for the repair and let me know that they would take care of me when I got there. That they did! Eric was at one of the counters and he recognized me right away. My repairs were completed 30mins before Eric initially said, and my car now runs freely in the wind like Forrest Gump. The guys working there are nice which is their only good quality in my experience. If you want a service other than an oil change, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! I had my air conditioning break last year and went in to have them fix it. They took ALL day for them to tell me the problem. And then I came back to get it fixed at a later date. Then, less than a week later, an important part to my car broke... Why? Because someone had improperly handled it when they were in there for my air conditioning. Bolts weren't tightened enough and they'd warped on of my car parts so one of my belts broke. I took it somewhere else because I didn't trust them to fix what they broke. And now, less than a year later, guess what?! I'm having the same air conditioning issue as last time! Air is barely blowing and im sweating my butt off! read more

If I could give them a negative-10 I would. Awful experience. Went there for something basic and came out with a mess. My 2012 Honda Civic (only 57k miles) now lights up like a Christmas tree on the dash board exclaiming EMISSIONS and STEERING wheel alert . Went back twice to no avail. The last time,today , I was told my the store manager, Peter, that he didn't have anyone who could fix it even though I was just there early this morning and the same mechanic who originally had his hands on my car was tinkering with it after I brought it in again. Now, Peter tells me he doesn't have a mechanic and that one does not need to be one change the fluids as was done nor do an induction service. REALLY??!!! Don't worry, Peter. I won't be back. He completely dismissed me and said he did not care about the video I Showed they'll do their own inspection which is fine, but there's no need for you to be rude. Had my car for 8 hours no update no nothing. I finally called to see what was going on because it was eight hours and they told me they couldn't figure out what's going, minutes later called me and said they magically figured out going on. Quoted me almost 1,000+ worth of stuff (the part I needed online was $184)and still gave me a report with a bunch more stuff that needed to be done when all I wanted them to do was figure out the noise coming from my engine not tell me about my breaks, not about filters not about anything else. I used to come here a lot and trust them with my car, but I no longer do they have definitely gotten worse over time. read more

I was really shocked with my service at this Pep Boys. I thought it was going to be a great experience in the beginning when dropping my car off with Peter. I have a BMW and need the brakes looked at. They took the car in and completed the job timely and called to let me know it was ready. I left happy. I know new brake pads can be a little squeaky at first, but they shouldn't squeal so loud that it resonates for miles. The car was taken back in the next day, but rather than look at it, was told it is expected to do that for awhile. I proceeded to drive the car close to 200 miles and it was still squealing terribly, so I took it back in. Peter heard me come in. Peter told me that I needed to drive the car 400-500 miles before I should expect that to stop and European cars can be longer. He then proceeded to google it and show me on his computer. I said it is not a normal squeal. No one would look at the car until I put 400-500 miles on it. Finally I had a business trip in Jacksonville, and drove straight back to Pep Boys. Francis heard me coming into the parking lot it was still so bad. At this point, I was over 800 miles. He was so nice and patient. Come to find out the wrong break pads were put on my car! I had incurred another 50 in Ubers, and had to go there 3 times before someone would look at the car. I am appalled. Not to mention, the embarrassment for weeks every time I pulled up to a light, people telling me to get my breaks fixed. When it was finally fixed, Peter did not call me to let me know it was done. He was not sure the replacements were going to be in early enough to finish it. I am leaving for vacation tomorrow and he asked to keep it until I got back. I said no. I think after all of this a common curtesy would be a phone call to say the breaks came in and your car is ready to be picked up. All of this could all have been avoided if they didn't refuse to help me the first 2 times. Maybe I am a female, so I got treated like I didn't know right from wrong. I went to a tire shop and was sold a set of tores and told I needed to go elsewhere for balancing, I called pep boys and Anthony answered and offered to help get the issues resolved. once I got there him and gabe went above and beyond trying to get my car fixed so I could safely make it home. Francis and his team are phenomenal. we could not have had a better experience after coming in post-hurricane Milton. They are warm, friendly, charismatic, and most importantly, care deeply about their customers. Dishonest company and workers !! I came here to replace my battery for my car and asked for the quote. A lady in a white shirt told me that to replace a Honda Civic 2013 battery would cost me around $200-$500. I was confused and thinking to myself "$200-$500" for a 2013 honda civic battery ???!! I then told her no and walked out, then a guy working there came up to me and offered me that if I buy a battery from here and he'll replace the battery for around $180-$200. Of course, I told him that's not going to happen.Why don't you tell me that when I was in the store??!!! . Why would they quoted me 2 different prices from 2 different employees. So instead of paying 550 everywhere else, I can get brakes for $220 and I can come in for Service at 11AM on a Sunday and don't have to take time off from work! Pep boys has very convenient long hours, opening early at 7AM and closing at 8PM Monday through Saturday! Pep boys is even open on Sunday until 6PM! This place has horrible customer service, don't waste your time here. I went there at 5:30pm after work on a Thursday evening because I had a flat tire and needed a new one or a patch repair. When I arrives there, I had to wait approximately 15-20 minutes before anyone even came up to the service desk to help me. No one was around. It was weird. Finally, the service tech came out and looked like she was in a bad mood. She was not helpful at all, and told me the mechanic was busy working on a big project by himself and he was the only mechanic there. So, I had to put my spare tire on in the parking lot and drive home. I will be going to a different tire shop to purchase a new tire. Don't go to this location on Hillsborough, they're not helpful at all. Don't waste your time. read more

The service manager Luis Vega was super helpful. His shop was able to install my new battery and check the alternator and confirmed it didn't need to be replaced. I usually go to Advanced Auto Parts, but I thought I would try out Pep Boys for a new truck battery since my daughter is always singing that annoying jingle. When I arrived I went to the Parts and Advice Counter, but nobody showed up after a couple minutes. I looked to the back counter where the commercial accounts are serviced, and there were people there, so I went back and gave a "Is this the right counter?" look to an employee, and he told me to go to the service counter. This is the only decent interaction I received during my visit, so they get a star for that. At the service counter I was told to pull my truck up to the closest bay. After the car that was in that bay left nobody came up to me or waved me in, so I waited. I watched a mechanic play with the air compressor, blowing off his uniform, and then he walked away. I got out of my truck to try to find someone, but after five minutes of waiting I just gave up and left. Apparently, my business was not that important to them. No surprise, I ended up going to Advanced Auto Parts where they took great care of me. read more

Joe and the service staff at this Pep Boys were great! Fast, honest, quick service. After my last experience at a different Pep Boys I was nervous about going to another one. However they are the only place I know that changes light bulbs. The service man fixed my light rather than just changing it which saved me $34.99. Fixed my other bulb quickly and cleaned up some other items in my car. I will be back next week to see Joe for another item he mentioned helping me fix. Best place in town! Store manager Peter and his guys were fabulous!!! Professional behavior and very well groomed. I went in for an oil change, advised them I heard an awful noise in my tires. they were attentive, changed the oil and found the issue! Peter and his guys would not allow me to leave with both brake pads and rotors worn. They took time to show me specifically as you will see in the picture. I didn't have over $300 in repair costs and Peter made certain the problem was fixed, allowed me to leave, and return with the money much later! Wow huh?! There really are angels on earth! My problem was fixed and I am certain I will revisit this location more in the future. Please ask for Peter, he is the Manager, yet all of his staff are professional and friendly. OMG The absolutely slowest ever. My brother and I went in here to grab a light. We get to the counter and there is one guy counting his drawer and another guy and girl just sitting there talking. A guy back buy the service area had to tell the the to talking that we were standing there. We finally start to get checked out. My brother hands the cashier exact change, which he count 3 times(it was like $8.53, so nothing big). He opens the drawer to put the money in, when another employee says something and the guy cashing us out stops to turn around and talk to the other employee for a second. He turns back to the drawer almost forgot what he's supposed to do now. So at the point I grab the receipt off the machine myself and we leave. I rarely give bad reviews as you can see by my previous reviews, but this was truly a terrible experience. We needed new tires, and I scheduled an appointment at 1pm today a day ago to get 4 new tires at this Pep Boys. We showed up about 5 min till and came in. Waited about 5 minutes in line and they were able to pull up our appointment. First thing he said was he needed to see if the tires we were told were in stock were really in stock. This was the beginning of my trepidation but was pleasantly surprised they did, thank goodness. At this point he had to enter in our info which we already gave when we made the reservation which seems redundant but we handed him the keys about 115pm. They said it would be about 3 hours and I was floored, I said even with an appointment? He replied oh you made an appointment, then 2 hours it'll be done. Concern set in at this point. 75 minutes later, 230pm, my truck was still in the parking lot. Finally it goes in. 315pm rolls around and I ask what's the status. The floor guy taps on the window and asks how long? The mechanic throws up his middle finger and says Uno momento I'm told now another 30 minutes, doing the last tire now. Frustrated I sat back down, already now 2 hours in. Another 30 minutes and it's still in there. They didn't take the truck out till 4:15 pm, 3 hours later. I'm furious but don't complain, took another 20 minutes to wrap everything up. To the gentleman who was working the register, he was compassionate and very nice, and got the manager to take off $15 from the balancing fee, but that really didn't seem like enough at this point. Start the truck to leave and we have a tire pressure warning and all 4 tires are low. So back in I go, and were directed to pull it back up. He promptly fixed it ,took about another 10-15 min. Finally 450pm when we pull out. That's 3 hours and 50 minutes to change our tires with an appointment. Reading the reviews now in hindsight a lot of people have had similar issues. My only take away is I will never, ever use Pep Boys again. Would never recommend them. Stay away. Run for Tire Kingdom or somewhere else. Otherwise bring a book and some snacks, maybe a tent if you have to spend the night. All joking aside this was terrible and I will not return. I will say the problem is probably with time management of the mechanics and not the guys on the floor. read more

Went here to get a tire patched, was told it would be $422. He said we can't patch it, we have to replace it. We can't replace one, we have to replace two. I said, what?!? Then he said 'well, I go do you a deal and take $20 off, so $400.' I said that I wanted to shop around. He tried to pressure me into doing it right then and there, saying they would price match anyone else... and I asked for my keys and left. I then went straight to the Tire Kingdom on Fowler and they were able to take care of both tires for $275. Based on their customer service and performance, I added on a an alignment w/ a 6 month warranty and still walked out of there for way less than Pep Boys quoted me. Moral of the story: Pep Boys has terrible customer service and scamy prices. Go elsewhere. read more

I used the online appointment tool to set an appointment for an oil change at 1 pm. I can in, checked in and was told it would take 45 minutes. I'm still sitting here, it's now 2:10 and they just pulled my car into a bay. I guess that 45 minutes was just a bit off. If you have the ability to set an appointment you should hold up to that. If you're running behind tell me, I'll reschedule. Do tell me it'll be done in 45 minutes and not have moved my car an hour later. UPDATE: while the wait was longer than I was lead to believe after it was finished they were able to give me a discount on the service for waiting patiently. Recently, my Honda Accord was in need of a set of new tires. I had the opportunity to work directly with Peter, the store manager who patiently answered all my questions regarding the different types of tires for my car. Trust me, I had a ton! Once he determined my driving style, he was able to provide in-depth information on the characteristics of various tire types and helped me narrow down my choice.
