Literally called them 10 minutes before I left the house for an emissions test. They said any time before 4:45. I get there and this horizontally challenged tire troll tells me the system is down, yet it was working 10 minutes prior. Seemed happy to turn me away. They charged me 125.00 for an evaluation on my A/C never said my compressor was leaking , they just did the job knowing it wouldn't last, 542.00 later it only lasted for like a week, brought it back I told them it's been less than two months. There's no reason why they should be already. You need to fix it again and don't give me the same technician so he called me like three hours later after they were so busy I left the first day I went back the next dayand left the car there he called and said the compressor was leaking. My car had a dead battery. called AAA. They came to my house, jumped started the car, but they had no batteries. They told me to keep the car running so it would not die on me again. If I was able to leave a negative score I absolutely would on July 28th I brought my SUV in even made an appointment I have my tire looked at plugged if possible it had a bolt in it I patiently waited in line spoke to Dennis behind the desk and when I presented my VA as in veteran affairs ID card for a military veteran 5% discount Mr Dennis responded very sarcastically and with extreme degradation with a derogatory response asking me to show my military ID when I proceeded to show him pep boys website where it said military veterans he proceeded to question whether or not I was even allowed to have a discount because I don't have a military ID and continued with the derogatory comment as if insinuate that I was not a veteran I am a female combat service connected veteran disabled at that and the way I was treated at the Waterbury pep boys was beyond reproach!!! When in the parking lot I called to inquire how long it would take to fix a flat tire, the advisor Dennis stated it would take half an hour so I went inside. An hour later I asked about getting my vehicle and he stated that I had to be patient with a smirk on his face and stated being there for an hour is not bad when you take a car any where for service. They were just fixing a flat tire no further service. When my key was finally brought in he grabbed two folders and went to the back making me wait longer. I was there for an hour and 20 mins for a service that should have been a half hour. Had I known it was going to take that long I would've gone else where since I had two small children with me hence why I called from the parking lot before going inside. I have been going to pep boys for at least 10 years now. They have always been pricey but tonight was way out of the park. I had car trouble earlier in the day starting my car and I needed an oil change. I told them what happened with my car starting problems and they told me they would test the battery, alternator and starter. I was ok with that. I made an appointment online for 5:30pm. I got there at 5:30pm. A friend picked me up and we went shopping, came back at 6:30 pm and my car hadn't left the spot I parked it in. One hour later and my car had not gone in. What was the point of the appointment? I walk into the waiting area and two others are waiting as well. The employees were sitting behind the desk eating. After 15 min an employee came in and said they were taking all 3 cars in at once. 1 hr and 15 min it took. 6:45 pm they come out and tell me what I needed and then proceeded to tell me I needed back brakes. The total was over $600 with $500 being the brakes. Then I started to think why in the world are they checking my brakes when I didn't even complain about them. They told me that they were so bad they were metal on metal and I shouldn't be driving the car. If they were that bad my brakes would be squeaking and grinding according to another mechanic. They don't ever squeal grind or shake. Pep boy's has gone downhill, making things up to make money. They almost got $500 from me to fix something that I didn't complain and wasn't wrong with the car. The short version- made an appointment for an oil change; oil change took 3 hours. Our appt was at 3, car was brought in after 3:30. After waiting at least another hour with no update we found someone to ask what was taking so long. They had stripped the oil drain plug and couldn't figure out how to get it out. Understandably this means the job takes longer but several times we looked out to see the car still up and no one working on it at all. At one point someone came out talking and laughing about the fact they couldn't get the plug removed and insinuated it was the fault of whoever did the previous change. Cool I'll let the dealership (who sold me the car new) know they can't handle an oil change. In the many hours we sat in the waiting area we became acquainted with the other lifers, one of whom initially came in to have the battery replaced somehow leaving with the computer needing to be reset so this was his second visit and he'd been there over 4hrs. Another poor gentleman had taken a nap in the time he'd been there for his flat tire going on 2hrs to repair. About 30mins before they closed for the day someone was apparently able to get the plug removed. Needless to say at this point we were more than ready to be done with the situation but for some reason instead of checking anyone out the associates discussed what they wanted from the vending machine and sat there eating chips. Not that I really wanted anyone at this absolute circus to touch anything else on my car, it was also very obvious they didn't actually complete the free tire rotation. Do not go here. read more

When I asked why the man behind the counter treated me like I was stupid. Gave them a bad review. Was contacted by who I'm guessing was the store manager. Told him what happened. He told me to come to the store and would give me a full refund. So I go and get the refund. Now I get a letter from my credit card company saying that I was going to still be charged because of what pep boys told them. It's sad to say that no one keeps their word anymore. I'm not sure it's possible to get worse service. I went in on a Wednesday around 3:30 in the afternoon to get two tires replaced. Looking behind the tire counter there was one car in the bays, so I thought it would be a quick trip. Instead, Will, the guy working the counter told me it would be at least two hours until they could get my car in a bay. I said to go for it, I needed the tires done. We went back and forth about pricing before I decided to take advantage of the buy 3 get 1 free sale, even though I only needed two. About 10 minutes after I sat down in the waiting area he asked me to go in the garage (apparently three hours flew right by...) so his mechanic could show me all sorts of things wrong with my car. He proceeded to tell me my shocks and struts (same thing, but he seriously said both, thinking I wouldn't know that!), the control arm and both ball joints were no good. I mentioned I drove the car there, right? Yeah, because if all of that was wrong with it, the wheels would've fallen off long before I got there. Back inside, Will advised me that his suggestion would be to leave the car overnight so he could get the parts in and have all the work done, and that it was "unsafe" to drive the car. Price? Oh, an extra $2000 on top of the $800 for the tires. I told him to do the tires and I'd worry about the rest later. (Incidentally - I went straight to my mechanic from there - not ONE of the parts needed replacement or had any sign of damage. NONE.). This meant I sat around waiting for the tires for another hour and a half even though my car was sitting in a bay, on a lift, with the tires off. While sitting around I considered talking to the manager to ask why it was taking so long - until I noticed what he was doing. Which is to say, nothing. Nothing at all. I was in the store for about two and a half hours total, and during that time I'm pretty sure he spent a total of ten minutes not staring at a computer ignoring customers. The one time he did come over was to tell a guy who was trying to keep his three kids in check that the tire he came in and requested to plug was too low to plug. When the guy explained he needed the plug just to last two days, as he'd bought new tires, the manager asked if he got them there. The guy said no and the manager replied "Well, I'd have plugged it if we sold you the tires. But, it's too low, so we can't." Between how obviously lazy the workers there are, the incompetence (or outright dishonesty) of the mechanics, and the price gouging going on in the first place, I'll never go back to that store, not even in the most desperate of situations. read more

I was supposed to get tires on my truck today at the Waterbury Pepboy. I found the tires I wanted (Cooper Adventurer A/T). According to the computer page they would be $777.13 out the door. When I ordered them over the phone last Thursday I asked the girl twice if they were in stock. She said yes, two times I told her the price and she affirmed that was the correct price. so we set up an appointment for today. So I get there and she tells me they don't have those tires in stock. I told her that I spoke to her Thursday (I remembered her name) and she said twice that they had them. She offered to run down to West Hartford to get them. Since I was going somewhere today for the day in Sandy's car I said okay.. I asked her again to confirm the price and she looked it up on the computer and said that was correct.. About 20 minutes later she calls me and says that there were some extra charges, (She couldn't tell me what) and the price was now $1,100.00.I told her to cancel the order and I went to get my truck. When I got there I asked her for a copy of her print out showing me the actual charges and what they are for but she said the computer was down. Needless to say I am upset. I have the printout from the Pepboys advertisement with the prices for the tires and installation fees, etc. showing that it was $777.13 and she couldn't tell me what the extra $323. was for.. This review is a follow-up/update to my previous review. The same day I wrote that review, I completed three customer surveys (as prompted on the receipts) with essentially the same information. Within an hour I received a call back from the Service Manager, Juan. We spoke about the incident(s), and discussed a path to resolution. I am very happy with the resolution and response provided by the staff. I dropped off the vehicles the following morning. Once again, everyone was very courteous, and respectful. I mainly worked with Juan throughout the entire follow-up process, and he was very helpful in keeping me updated on the status of the repair/diagnosis. The staff was able to correct the previously unresolved issues. A faulty Tire Pressure Sensor was found and replaced. Also, the engine coolant leak was identified as coming from the radiator, and estimates for the new work was provided (a new radiator). I am very happy with the follow up, and I want to offer my sincerest gratitude to the staff for taking care of the issues as identified. The only 'issue' previously identified and not addressed was the Tire package price difference noted on the previous survey. However, I did not bring that up during this visit and I am happy to put this transaction to rest. I gladly recommend anyone reading this to visit the location, and if you're dissatisfied for whatever reason, afford the staff and/or management the opportunity to correct it. If you still feel unhappy, feel free to complete a customer survey and be honest about your experience. Also, be reasonable and fair in your survey. Do you have a great experience to share? If I can give this place zero stars I would!! The service department sub standard service. Basically I came in here for an oil change and it was supposed to be just that. A couple of weeks later I'm getting smoke from under my hood I was not notified that I needed to get a valve cover gasket replaced. So after my engine is smoking I come to Pep Boys and they tell me yes I need to replace this part and it's gonna cost me $500. They are trying to offer me a discount off of the price but that isn't good enough I feel that the service department has failed me in giving me the recommended information at the right time so I can correct the action in the moment. Being that I was not notified at the time. The problem has gotten worse I have never had a problem getting a simple oil change at a major maintenance store. If you want better business and not feel like you're being ripped off or not seeing that you were viewed as a dollar bill then I would go somewhere else because good customer service doesn't exist here it's all about the money. They definitely lost a long time customer. I have never had this kind of mistreatment. And to boot I needed this vehicle done at 12:30 PM mind you I had a 8 o'clock appointment this should've been a simple fix here it is almost 2:00 PM and I'm still in the store waiting... The person behind the desk says that all of the stuff that I had fixed last time is working properly even though my car is experiencing the same problems that it did not even three months ago. He then proceeds to print stuff off the computer and says that the issues that I'm having are from a recall for Chevy and I need to go to a Chevy dealership to have it fixed. Guess how stupid I felt that I drove to a Chevy dealership and found out there was no recall.... I'm never going to pep boys ever again for anything not even an oil change. First time, going to Pep Boys in any location. Chose to use this one for a quick diagnosis to find out what was happening with my car's front wheels. I was told it would be 19.95, I sent someone to take the car there as I had to work. Well, not only was the person who had to do the check late, but I was handed an invoice with unnecessary oil change, which I had not approved, since I had a complete oil change just about a month or two ago, but they added synthetic oil, Which I never use! oil filter, and then gave him an invoice for more than the 19.95 that was the price for diagnosing. These guys watched out for us in a big way. First of all, the main person who dealt with us, Will, was extremely professional and knew exactly how to handle this occasion. When the inspection was done, he took us (the buyers only) to the car, introduced the mechanical team (Luis and Scott) to us person by person and listed/showed every problem on his list. DO NOT GO HERE UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR STUFF STOLEN AND LOOKED THROUGH! My dad went to the Pep Boys in Waterbury, CT today to get snow tires for my car that I purchased only 6 months ago. The staff there were very unprofessional and it took them 3 hours to do a job that normally takes 1, adding snow tires. I also had some belongings like multiple packages of food and chewing gum in my car that was missing upon its return to me. As a college student with a limited budget it's very hard for me to lose my belongings like that. They also broke a wheel stud on the car that was put on recently, which will cost extra for me to get fixed and will delay my return to school for my midterm exams. I feel very uncomfortable knowing they looked through my belongings to eat my food and stick their hands into them, and how they did not take responsibility for breaking a part on my car which will cost me extra money and will delay my arrival to school. I am now unsure of what else they broke in my car and took from it. I want to know if anything can be done about this. Wish I could give it 1 star. read more

I love this place. I've been before to get tires so I thought I would take a ride (it's not the closest Pepboys to me). As soon as I walked in I was greeted immediately by the staff. I asked an employee about an issue I was having. He recommended a simple fix (cabin air filter) and told me they would install it. The filter was so cheap I figured I would buy wipers because I really needed new ones. They put these of for me too (for free!). I was in and out in record time. I will definitely be back. If I could rate this particular location lower I would choose the lowest one. Brought my vehicle in for a flat repair on a tire from tires that were purchased at this location. Of course they could never find any information in the system. But that's fine I said I'll pay and bring my receipt in another time and get refunded. I already took the bad tire off and drove my car with a donut to this location this way they could just pull the nail plug or patch the hole slap the tire back on. I brought my car in on a Sunday at 4:30. There was an employee car and one person ahead of me. It is now after 6PM and I'm still waiting first for them to even fix the tire and second pay for the service that o should not even be paying for. Worst experience ever I will never bring any of my vehicles back to a pep boys. I suggest better planning and training for your employees. Maybe if you paid the other people a little better they would actually work at the speed of every other place that can patch a tire already off a vehicle in 10 mins. Second part is after not only seeing and taking care of two vehicles AFTER me i decided to go sit outside and just wait for them to do this 10 min job. Now i am permitted to carry firearms and i am a Black male, as i was walking out i adjusted my clothing and in doing so an employee saw the butt of my firearm. They called the police on me and told them that i got into an argument with an associate and "Flashed" my firearm. So now as i am sitting outside, writing them a bad review for the horrible service there about 6 cop cars pull up put me in cuffs sit me down and disassemble my firearm. After they went inside the store and watched the video clearly showing that none of that happened they took the cuffs off and told me that Pep Boys refuses to now fix my tire and wants me to leave. I went here for an oil change and tire rotation. It was satisfactory to say the least. The price of an oil change even if you bring your own engine oil and filter is $23. It was only good bc of the free rotation. Besides that, they charge too much for labor. I enquired about a cv axle replacement if I supplied the parts. It was a whopping $500. Also asked about brake flushes, and other maintenance services. Brake flush $250. FYI I asked several other places for the jobs and their labor cost was almost 1/3. $89/hr labor = about 4.5 hours to replace cv axles. According to automd, YouTube, and 4 front end specialist it was about 2.5 hours for $175 - $240. Worst thing is that the manager didn't even know about the axle seal or that it is needed to do the job. Anyway oil change with free rotation totally worth while. If without it; far too expensive. Not that it means anything but these mechanics have to stop thinking customers are mentally retarded. Seriously; as soon as I get a house I will do 90% of this stuff myself. read more
