It's hard to run a health food store in a small town and Lori does a great job. She always has what u need and gets new and interesting products in. This place is family owned, and I love supporting the locals. I just wish this place was more organized and put together. I feel like some things have been thrown on shelves. And they could have a little move variety and selections. The lady behind the counter seemed a little hard to approach at first, but did ask if I found everything at the end. My husband and I entered this store today since we are staying at the Getaway nearby. The woman working the store treated us right away and was super friendly and accommodating. She was very informative regarding the local products sold here. So many great organic options. Only thing I wish is that there were prices on the products. We feel fortunate to have this health food store nearby! Laurie is a gem and she knows her stuff about food values, nutrition and sources. The store has a mixed assemblage of goods and we buy from here as much as possible. No, it is not Whole Foods and thanks god for that! But what it is - a small business trying to make it in a rural area with a short tourist season where she is open year round. The cold room has many treasures! Local products abound. Great organic selections, chips, sweets too! Please support this business and buy a little or a lot to keep this level of healthy foods available in the Sullivan County area. What a gem! We found this place while driving from Cooperstown to Manhattan. We decided to stop in Roscoe just for a break. We entered the Pepacton building by total coincidence and ended up being super happy we did! They have a great selection of organic foods, candies, drinks and vitamins. We stopped for a snack but ended up buying so much more! There's a smaller room in the back that had chilled veggies, nuts and fruits. I didn't see it at first so make sure you look! The employees were very helpful and welcoming. I will make a stop here again if I'm in the area! read more

I shop here about once a week when I'm in the area. Not anymore. I really wanted to like this place and the area really needs a good, healthy food store. But when I went to return a stale bag of chips, and the owner would not exchange them, it was the last straw. Mice in the produce room, unpacked boxes in the aisles, items lacking pricing, bad customer service, bad location. The owner is unfriendly, at times condescending and treats customers like an interruption to her work. It feels like she does not want to be working there. I don't know why I kept coming in here. I have been a customer of Pepacton Natural Food for many years. I used to drive over half an hour to their location in Downsville and was delighted when they made the move to Roscoe and I am now only 15 minutes away (wishes do come true). Laurie is a knowledgeable and thoughtful shopkeeper. She knows her merchandise including the supplements well. During the pandemic of Covid-19, Laurie (and the literal PNF family) have been amazing and tireless. They have provided food and support to their community of shoppers. She knows what we like and will stock items specific to us if we ask. Additionally, PNF stands behind their merchandise. In the end, Laurie is also one of the most generous people I have ever met in and out of the shop. I have been lucky enough to work with Laurie on environmental issues and can tell you that she is smart and passionate and does her research. On a personal note, a few year back I broke my foot, she sent over a care package two my home filled with necessities and kindness (chocolate). Within the month i heard of a neighbor who had a very bad arm break, I was still not mobil, so I ordered a basket for this neighbor, Laurie made it up and delivered it and insisted on splitting the costs with me. I feel compelled to update this review, not because I have new information, but because by Facebook magic (haha), I saw some comments the owner of this place, and another local business I reviewed (I'm speculating, but I am pretty sure as these are small towns) made about its Yelp reviewers on their FB page, and it sounds like mine may be one of the reviews targeted. I don't 'follow' their page, so I won't comment there - this is where it began and where it ends. As a local person, I frequent small business in the area and support many of them whole heartedly. I am so excited for new business owners and I make every effort to go in and try it out, and like any consumer, I reward a good experience with repeat business. I'm sure they do the same. I stand by my reviews, as they were indeed my experiences. Yes, I am a critical reviewer, and I don't apologize for that. I give details of the entire experience, and I value the reviews of others who do the same. I also give credit where it's due, as evidenced by the fact that the majority of my reviews are quite positive. I am disappointed that instead of reaching out and engaging with me and saying, "hey - sorry, that's not our usual, try us again" type of responses (as many strong managers and owners do on Yelp, or Trip Advisor, or Urban Spoon, or even via e-mail when they get complaints or poor reviews), I see instead reviewers like me (or quite possibly me) being called "wackos" and part of the "feeding frenzy." Yelp might not be perfect, but why devalue someone's experience? Particularly if you were not there for it? This seems like a lack of reflection and a reluctance to be open to criticism. It's not good business. So many places up here don't make it, and I can't help wonder if an attitude of "I know what's right and my customers don't" doesn't contribute to the loss of business. I can tell you that badmouthing them on Facebook definitely won't help. If someone reaches out to me in an honest effort to make things better, I become a repeat customer. Period. read more

Wow, just wow. Stopped in on my never ending search of a product I like. Would have bought quite a bit since I try to support small businesses. They had the product but rudely shooed me out of the store claiming she had deliveries and she didn't want to unpack anything. I was embarrassed and shocked. It's so important to frequent small town businesses and this one is as good as it gets. In the spring you can buy fresh trout from the streams, at Thanksgiving you can get a fresh turkey directly from the farm. I actually was handed my turkey from the farmer as she was delivering it. And the store has enough inventory to get all your side dishes. Great cheeses and other organic items. Tons of gluten free. Stop by! read more

We came here before a camping trip to stock up on some food and boy am I glad we stumbled on this quaint little market! So many fun goodies to taste and everything is SO affordable! We spoke to the owner and she was so sweet and had the same mentality as I do - you shouldn't have to be rich to be healthy! The management of this store was extremely unfriendly, hostile and insulting when I asked the price of an organic dairy product which did not have a price label on it. The woman who runs the place apparently thinks there is something wrong with asking for a price - even when many items in the store do not have price labels or posted prices. This store used to be in Downsville, and now it's in nearby Roscoe. This is the type of business I'd love to love, but the owners make it hard to do that. When the store was in its Downsville location, everything was fine. Now that it's in Roscoe, every time I go in it's the same story. It's a family-run store, and Mom isn't there as often as she was in Downsville. So now the daughter and son surf the web all day and act like it's a chore to get off their tails and help customers. They also seem to dislike pricing and shelving stock, since there are always boxes all over the floor. Half the time what i want is still sitting in a box with no price tag on it. The items they stock are usually fresh, of high quality, and not too pricey. It should be a pleasure to shop here, but the "customer service" is more like "customer indifference." I hope Mom will start minding the store again, or else read the adult kids the riot act. read more

I've known PNF since it was in Downsville and have never found a better source of information or products for nutrition and health. The owner, Laurie, is extraordinarily knowledgable, responsive and generous to her customers. Every time my family has had a question, she's given us incredibly thorough, enlightening information that has helped solve a problem. The interesting variety of foods, produce, gifts and pottery, etc. add to the store's primary goal of improving the health and well-being of its customers. I live about 15 miles away and I am so glad this store is here. It's really well stocked for such a small store. I no longer have to drive an hour into Ulster county for this variety of natural food..I understand some peoples frustration that nothing is priced so it's hard to know before hand unless you ask what the prices are . I have loved everything I have bought there.I pray there is enough business to keep them in this location. I really appreciate having a store in my area that offers so much variety of health food , organic produce and other gourmet items . The service in my experience, has been great.
