    Short Rib Sandwich
    Vann H.

Was in the mood for something similar to Portuguese barbecue and found this place. Ordered on a Friday night and the food arrived timely and hot. As for the food, this place has a lot of potential but the execution was just not there. Short Rib Sandwich, came with two big pieces of short rib, was not tender, it was severely over cooked, and the bun was like wet paste because of condensation. The meat was like eating rubber. This came with French fries. Mixed Grill, came in a half pan with three flanken beef ribs, two chicken breasts, 4 sausages, two pork chops. I opted for a side of fries and a salad. The meat had some flavor to it but once again the ribs and pork chop was overcooked. It also came with housemade chimichurri, which was delicious. Maduros, were really good--sweet with a bit of char. This place has the right idea, great portions, good prices, and a nice menu. However, the cook time on the meat should be revisited. The buns and fries due to the steam needs a solution so customers aren't receiving mush. An air fryer was able to crisp the fries but the bun was done. I am sure eating there would have alleviated most of the issues. I love supporting small businesses, this was a miss even though I enjoyed some of the food.

Dinner delivered arrived hot to the neighboring town. Dinner for 4 was 2 servings plus leftovers. The entree portions are large. A variety of sauces come with your order. The food is well seasoned. Grilled chicken was a tad bit dry but the sauce took care of that. Black beans no pork is hard to find in the area. The food is really good. I will order again.

I'm scanning door dash and boom PEPE'S pops up and boy did I have a treat! The portions were out of this world, the food was still hot and everything was so good. I got the Half order of Rotisserie Chicken and the Beef Rib plate. When I opened the lid I knew it was going to be good it looked beautiful. The chicken was so moist & juicy with a bunch of flavor. It literally fell off the bone the tenderness was out of this world. The Arroz Chaufa rice was the perfect side dish reminds you of an Asian fried rice but you get that Hispanic flair. The veggies were broccoli & carrots I love me some steamed veggies and I had no problem with them at all. The Beef Ribs had a nice grill taste and they were perfectly seasoned. They were firm but had great chew, a perfect cook in my book! I don't know what the green sauce they gave me was but man it was fire, it had a little bit of spice and a strong cilantro flavor. This is a hidden gem that's had to be found by everyone!

Had the chicken and pork ribs bbq ... delicious! The ribs are amazing.. and the chicken was cooked perfectly and not dry.

    You J.

I'm not sure about the bad reviews here but this is by far the best Peruvian restaurant that I've ever been to. Their chicken and pork ribs combo is simply delicioso!!! I would travel from Clifton to West Orange just to get peruvian food here. Prices are reasonable and parking is never a problem. I never have to wait that long to get my orders whether I walk in or order though phone. I would definitely recomment this place.

Easy, prompt delivery. Generous portions with tasty, standard food. They gave me an extra side I didn't order but I'm not complaining.

We got the pan con chicharrón and I truly almost cried! I have not had one as delicious as this one in Jersey! The pork was tender, yet nicely fried, and there was not as much fat on it which is always hard as the fat gives it the flavor but too much can be overpowering. After talking to the chef, he mentioned that it is no longer on the menu because people didn't really order it ... so here I am, asking you all to go in and order it, so it can hopefully go back on the menu and everyone can try authentic and delicious Peruvian breakfast!! HUGE shoutout to Brian for creating something that brought both me and my friend a true sense of home

The restaurant is colorful, lively, and has a great atmosphere without feeling too formal. We started with the Tuna Wantacos. Our server warned us that they were spicy, and he was right -- definitely a little kick, but very flavorful. The white fish ceviche was bright and refreshing, with that tangy, salty leche de tigre that really wakes up your appetite. The Lomo Saltado was hearty and satisfying, but my favorite dish of the night was the Seafood Arroz Chaufa. It came topped with an omelet and had squid, fried shrimp, and plenty of seafood throughout. Really comforting, savory, and filling -- I would absolutely order this again. We also had chicha morada and a passion fruit drink. I've always liked purple corn drinks, so the chicha morada was an easy favorite. We finished with a chocolate dessert, which was a nice ending after such a big meal. Overall, a very enjoyable Peruvian dinner with fun décor, good flavors, and plenty of variety. I'd definitely come back, especially for the seafood fried rice.

We came to Jarana with high expectations. As fans of Peruvian cuisine, we were excited to try a…read morerestaurant associated with such a well-known Peruvian chef. We left with the impression that this is probably the kind of restaurant someone should visit for their very first introduction to Peruvian food--not because it represents the best of Peru, but because it offers a simplified version of its flavors. The restaurant itself is beautiful. It's clear that a significant investment was made in the design, atmosphere, and overall experience. The service was friendly, and we noticed that many of the servers were Colombian, which isn't surprising since Colombians are well known for providing excellent hospitality. However, there were moments when it seemed that some of the traditional Peruvian flavors and drinks weren't fully understood. For example, the Pisco Sour we ordered was much sweeter than it should have been. We decided to start with the jalea, hoping it would set the tone for the meal. Unfortunately, it did the opposite. The dish was overly salty and lacked the balance and excitement that a great Peruvian jalea should have. Instead of reminding us of the vibrant seafood flavors found in Peru, it tasted more like generic fried seafood than an authentic Peruvian recipe. After that dish, we chose not to continue with the rest of the menu. To make matters worse, both of us experienced stomach pain afterward, which confirmed our decision to leave. One thing that also caught my attention is the restaurant's description of its food as "approachable Peruvian cuisine." Making Peruvian food approachable should never mean lowering the quality or authenticity of its flavors. Simplicity and accessibility can absolutely coexist with exceptional taste. The beautiful atmosphere should be matched by food that delivers the same level of excellence. Considering the premium prices, the culinary experience simply didn't justify the cost. If someone has never tried Peruvian food before, Jarana may serve... again: may serve as an introduction. However, for anyone looking to experience what Peruvian cuisine is truly capable of, there are several outstanding Peruvian restaurants within just a few miles that offer more authentic flavors, a better overall dining experience, and often at a lower price. I genuinely wanted to love this restaurant because the concept and ambiance are impressive. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the setting or the reputation behind the name.
