Love going to this well-established neighborhood bar/Italian restaurant. I live fairly close by. I treat myself once or twice a month here. I absolutely love the service, food and portion size. I eat my meal, and always have a take out portion for two more meals. The booths are roomy, and don't get me started on how good the mini baguette rolls are. Readers GO HERE. Pepe's is now our go-to for pizza and grinders. Their pizza is always delicious and hot. Their grinders are full of whatever type of ingredients you choose. My husband and I have eaten here several times, and we are never disappointed. We haven't eaten a meal here besides pizza and grinders, but we certainly will soon. The boneless wings are always top-notch, it doesn't even matter what flavor you order, every flavor we have tried thus far has been delicious! We recently branched out and tried some of their other menu options. The cajun chicken pasta was very good - it was rich, decadent, and full of flavor. I came in...it was pretty much empty. The waitress greeted me and brought a drink. Then forgot me...for like 25 minutes...she apologized and gave me a free salad but really...the place was empty. To start off - no, this is not the Pepe's that you've heard so much about. That's a pizza place in New Haven (and more recently also in Manchester near the Buckland Mall). Pepe's is OK. Probably been there a dozen or so times. Some of their food is pretty good, some of it is just OK. The salads tend to be good. The wraps are hit or miss (Buffalo was OK, but didn't care for their rendition of a Cuban sandwich). The portions tend to be huge. I've had a few things that I thought could have used a little more flavor, but others that were good. There's a small bar area too that has some nice happy hour specials and a good number of TV's for its size. Service is usually pretty good, at a minimum always friendly, and there's never a wait for a table. Pricing is very reasonable. All in all not a bad place, but not somewhere to bring a date. Parking is good - usually plenty comfortably sized spaced available. read more

Nice Lounge Find. The barkeep was super happy and a friendly soul. Awesome happy hour app discounts. Nice crispy wings. More wings than legs though. Very good hot sauce with just the right amount of heat and a nice tang. Good bleu cheese and just the right amount of celery and carrots, which were very fresh. Excellent selection of draft beer. The only place I have found in CT with Carlsberg Pilsner. Although it was just a bit on the flat side. Nice lively locals crowd. Front lot fills up quick but there is more in the rear. read more

What's with the wings? They use to have awesome wings with great sauces. Bought a bunch for a small gathering and man did they suck. Raspberry habanero had no heat and all the wings were undercooked. Seems like of of a sudden they forgot how to fully cook them and and flavor them. Kind of sad, was a great wing spot. Pizza is on (average) grinders are standard fare. read more

This is the second time we've been here in the food is very good. And tonight I was "one of those people" who has to place a special order. I can't have deep fried wings so I asked them to bake them. Ashley kindly asked to kitchen staff if they could baked wings and they said they could but they would take quite a while. WORST EVER SERVICE BY ANGIE !!! First off, there were only 2 other tables occupied by 2 people each the whole time we were there, so it's not like they were packed. Our pizza took 45-50 mins. Bad sign. It never takes that long. The people in the table next to us came after us and they got their pizza and left and we were still waiting for ours. Then our pizza came out and it could have been cooked longer. The middle was mushy and the cheese was not golden brown like usual. The dough even seemed thicker. (We go regularly so we're familiar with their pizza) Our waitress, Angie, never even came over to ask us how everything was until we were done eating (15-20 minutes later) At that time I told her actually that the pizza could have been cooked more and that we weren't able to tell her that because she never came to check how everything was. She told me they wouldn't have been able to put it back in the oven, which obviously I knew that. I told her that wasn't the point. The point is she should have come over shortly after we got our food to check how everything was, but she never came over until we were done; that she should have checked sooner. She told me I should have waved her down (By the way, she was nowhere in sight and 2 other tables and 1 other waitress.) She had a complete attitude with me and was trying to place the blame on me. Never once said sorry. Just had a puss on her face. Didn't care at all. PS: Did I mention also that when we arrived and until we left they NEVER cleaned off the table behind us? So busy, I guess. I'm new to the area and thought the photos online looked good, so I called to place an order. I had to call 3 times to get someone to answer, and when they finally did, I asked for delivery & the guy who answered said they didn't deliver. No big deal, we offered to pick up. I then asked for a medium pizza and the guy literally started yelling at me about the difference between this place and "Frank Pepe's" located in another part of town and how I must have the wrong place because they don't "do" medium pizzas but the other place does. Came here for drinks and quesadillas. Pretty nice inside, pretty clean. They have a very limited line of draft and bottle beer; more domestic commercial beer, with a Two Road's White IPA. The quesadillas sucked - kinda something I could have made except stale tasting flour tortilla and cheap cheese and frozen chicken. I stopped in about 3:30 on Monday afternoon and there was NO other customers in the dining room. It took over 10 minutes for someone to come and take our drink order. The waitress finally came to take our order and brought our drinks. We ordered the bread with gorgonzola cheese which was nice and toasty. My bowl of clam chowder was luke warm even though the waitress said for me to be careful because it was hot. When our entree was served (which was split between 2 of us) it was also cold. Mine more so than my partners. The chicken breast was yummy but it was served over garlic mashed potatoes instead of rice as it said on the menu. When our waitress came to check on us we were over half done with our meal, I asked why was the chicken served on mashed potatoes and our server said well I thought mashes potatoes would be OK. Ummmm no that is not what we ordered. Very disappointing meal! read more

I thought that Pepe's should have a review reflecting the excellent service and experience we had there this weekend. I looked up yelp reviews of the restaurant and they were not so good- specifically I wanted pizza reviews because we wanted a nice, crunchy pizza pie- and there weren't too many to be found- so here is a review of the pizza at Pepe's: They have small and large pizzas and one-size calzones. The pizza crust is a non-greasy deep dish style, very high and crunchy with a pillowy-bite. It comes out very crispy, especially when you eat in-house rather than carry out. The tomato sauce is a generous helping, lightly sweet and not heavily spiced. Toppings are piled HIGH - we got a "supreme" pizza with beef, sausage, pepperoni, onions, mushrooms and peppers. They seriously load up the toppings and throw an extra bit of cheese on top for that gooey finish. They have all the classic topping combos and a few specialty pizzas. We have NEVER been disappointed by this pizza. It tastes great and is not a bit greasy. They have great beer specials and a chill, friendly atmosphere. If you are looking for relaxed place for a decent pizza and a beer, I couldn't think of a better choice. read more

THIS IS NOT FRANK PEPE'S RESTAURANT!! Don't let the 5 star reviews fool you. This place is a disgrace for lunch.

Very disappointed during our visit yesterday. My boyfriend and I stopped in for lunch and sat in the bar area. I ordered clam chowder and chicken caesar salad. Boyfriend ordered french onion soup and a chef salad. I could only eat a few bites of the chowder because 1) it was waaay to salty and thick and 2) my last almost bite contained a very long hair. What is it with Manchester restaurants and hair lately??? Anyway, the salads took almost 45 minutes to come out and when we asked our waitress (Dana) what was taking so long she seemed annoyed we were even asking since the chicken had to be cooked. Ok, fair enough, but 35 minutes. Really? Moving on. The salads came out and the chicken was so overcooked it was sharp and hard to eat. The chef salad, whose description in the menu included boiled eggs came out with no eggs and an obnoxious amount of meat. Just to get to the greens required moving half of the meat right off of the plate. Although the waitress removed the hairy clam chowder off the bill, this lunch could not be saved. Horrible... I did take-out and ordered an antipasto salad that was loaded with lettuce. Not even the good lettuce. It was the cheap lettuce. Loaded with Croutons, one olive, one small slice of salami, little pieces of ham and cheese rolled and sliced. It look like they took a slice of ham and a slice of check, rolled it and cut it into tiny pieces, cheap pepperoni, No artichokes, no red onions, no red peppers, I got instead green peppers, and big chunks on cucumbers. I didn't even know cucumbers came on an antipasto salad. Needless to say I will NEVER-EVER-EVER buy another thing from the overpriced fake Italian restaurant. True talk! You've been warned!!! I've been here several times and the food is always good. Picked up a pizza to share with friends. Not sure what people liked so I got the gourmet veggie. It was absolutely delicious. Crisp, cooked through veggies on top but just golden brown on the bottom. There is a lot of good pizza in CT and Pepe's in Manchester is a reliably good pizza joint. Like many small restaurants, this one gives to the local community. Eat local! read more
