We tried Pepitas since we were not eating actual meat at the time. I ordered pickup - I'd never been before and it's just a pickup spot. There's a window to order and then a screen with compartments to pick up your order... very small. I waited a few minutes upon arriving for my order and then headed home. It was pretty good. My son didn't really care for his quesadillas but everyone else thought it was pretty good. read more

Delicious vegan food is all you need to know. Mexican tacos with a vegan twist. The vibe of the place fits well with the vegan food. The tables are on the sidewalk which is on a small street allows you to watch passerby's while waiting for the food. read more

I came with my friend who is vegan and I was glad to see Milpa's menu was available to order from as well. The guy who took our order was nice and my enchiladas were good. My friend enjoyed her queso and picadillo tacos. Rice and beans were nothing special. The restaurant itself left a lot to be desired though. I have no idea why they got rid of all the cute decor some of the older reviews had even if they turned into a ghost kitchen. The all white floors and all white walls looked so dirty, there was no air conditioning, the two tables to wait at were dirty, and the screen for pick up orders was glitching. I really wanted to like this place more because I loved going to Milpa's before it closed. read more

Stopped in during lunch. It's basically on the edge of UNT's campus. Loved the music and that it was a cozy, comfortable space. The menu is pretty simple consisting of a few vegan options of Mexican food like tacos, burritos, and flautas. I ended up ordering a fajita bowl and a soda. The food was so great!! It was flavorful and filling. The only improvement needed that I would point out is the service. It was a little slow but the food was worth the wait. read more

The flavors were so good, I couldn't believe it was vegan. It was quick but didn't realize it was an order to go place only. I'd recommend ordering ahead because it can take a little bit for your order to be made. There's a basic patio outside of you want somewhere to sit. read more

What happened, Pepitas?! Went back a couple of days ago and found the cute, vibrant decor and comfy seating all gone, replaced by all white paint and inside seating of only two tables. There's a huge separation wall to the kitchen with space for to go orders. The prices also increased by 20-30% while the food was just ok, no longer delicious flavors, still fresh but lacking in comparison to my previous visit. Sad to see this place turn upside down and me losing a local favorite. RIP Pepitas read more

I've been eating here for years, the food is always consistent delicious and fresh! the Birria is one of my favorites. Even if you aren't vegan, you will love the flavor. The portions are huge! I love that they use jackfruit, it's such a versatile meat alternative that is natural, healthy and has a great texture, it will taste like whatever you choose to season it with, It's not a common find in restaurants! also their sunday brunch is amazing! the tofu cheese potato quesadilla is addicting, the salsas they give you on the side is so good! read more

My vegan BFF and I love to meet up on Sundays and try out new places (esp those with vegan options). I am not vegan, but I do appreciate vegan food and find it delicious. We arrived at Pepitas shortly after it opened on a Sunday. We were the only folks in there at that time, but that's okay. I couldn't decide which tacos I wanted to try, and the gentleman at the register told me of the taco platter option. I jumped on that and ordered the Three Taco Platter with one each of Al Pastor Taco, Fried Chicken Taco, Brisket Birria Taco with black beans and rice. My vegan friend ordered the Taquitos. We also ordered some guacamole and queso and chips as an appetizer. The decor inside the restaurant was very cute and welcoming. However, we moved tables a few times because either the tabletop or the chair had some sort of schmutz on it. That wasn't the greatest thing to see. We received our queso and guacamole and chips. The chips were perfectly salted and tasted very fresh. The queso was somewhat basic but did have a sneaky spice kick at the end. I did appreciate that, as I didn't find it very flavorful. The guacamole looked like it had seen better days and looked like a pre-made one that was scooped into the bowl. Tasted like it too. Didn't eat much of that. My tacos: The Fried Chicken Taco was good. I liked the coating on the outside. Flavor of the taco was good, but the texture of the "chicken" itself was somewhat tough to bite through. Brisket Birria Taco is made with jackfruit, which I've never had before. I was so impressed by the flavor and texture of the jackfruit. It truly captured the essence of "brisket". That was really good. Al Pastor Taco was okay. Something about the flavor didn't sit right with me. So, that was the only one that I didn't take more than one bite. Black beans and rice are pretty basic. Not too much flavor to set them apart. So didn't eat much of them. My friend said she liked her Taquitos, but she wasn't too impressed. She didn't eat majority of her food. Knowing her, she didn't like it but wanted to be nice. We both were curious about the sopapillas and churros. The churros were terrible. They were greasy, crunchy/chewy, and texture was just not good overall. The sopapillas were miles better in comparison, but the cook on them was a tad light. They seemed a little undercooked. Overall, I'm glad to have another vegan option out there for folks to go to. We'll probably be back eventually, but it's probably not going to be on our regular rotation. read more

Quick Review: Food: great vegan food. Jackfruit for barbacoa is a tasty substitute. I was hesitant so you won't have to be. Service: girl working the front desk was very nice and attentive. Between taking orders, making drinks, and running food, she did a great job running the FOH. The vibe is cute. Nothing crazily picturesque but not a boring hole in the wall with plain walls. When I say I have never had better vegan tacos in my life, I mean it. I thought it was meat, they were so good! I am so happy that I stumbled across this place while in Denton. The service was very fast and he was super nice. All the food was amazing. The only complaint I had was the glasses for drinks were very dirty. This was our third time coming and while we had great experiences the first two times but we won't be back. We were given a number to place on the table and then the lady who took our order just yelled out our number. Surprised but not to bothered I went to the counter to pick it up. It was missing the appetizer and the single chicken taco. My wife ordered Al Pastor nachos and they came out luke warm at best with chicken on them. I asked about the alcoholic beverage and she said she would bring it. When she brought the drink to the table I asked about the appetizer and she brought out some chips. I then asked about the chicken taco and she said it was coming. I finished my food with no taco in sight. I went to the counter where a young man was now working and asked for a refund for the taco I never got. He made several calls as the "register required a code he didn't have an he needed to call a manager." I sat as he called one who didn't have the code only to be told he needed to contact another. After 10 minutes I asked if I could have something in exchange for the money, tres Leche cake, and was told they were out. 5 minutes later I walked back up and he said he needed to finish somewhere else first so he didnt get in trouble and if I could give him 5 more minutes. 7 minutes later he comes back and says they have tres leches cake and do I still want that. I said yes and 10 minutes later we were finally able to leave with no taco but cake. There is more story but I'm tired of typing with my thumbs. Like the food but won't be back. read more

Highly highly recommend this fantastic vegan Mexican restaurant. The food is delicious. I ordered the quesadillas, which I have not had in years because I hesitate on vegan cheeses in restaurants.... This one was the BEST!! I can't remember the exact name but it had pineapples pieces in it. Superb. The queso is awesome too!!!! We live out of town and visit often; we will come here as often as we can. In closure, our son met us there and he loves to eat meat so he was not so sure of this place; he loved it!! Lately I've been eating more plant-based meals and I know how difficult it is to make some meals taste as good as meat based meals. Pepitas hasn't opened their dining room yet but I think they plan on end of the month. I ordered via their website which was easy. They give you the option of sending order updates either via email or text. Once I got the text when it would be ready I went and picked it up curbside. They just asked the name and came out with the order which was nice instead of having to go inside. I ordered what they call "Chicken Tinga Tacos" even though it's a vegan meal. The tacos was very good! They are made with jackfruit, onions, soyrizo and chipotle. I had never had jackfruit before and I was surprised how meat-like the texture was. The corn tortillas were good, not sure if they make it themselves or not. The black beans were very good! Better than any refried beans I've had in a very long time, not sure how they make it. I'm definitely going to try them again soon, the rest of my family doesn't like plant-based but I'm hoping since Milpa/Pepitas share space that once they open up the dining room that we both can get the food we want. I have had other plant-based tacos elsewhere and they have always been disappointing so I'm glad that this restaurant really knows what they are doing! read more

I am not sure if this will replace my older review but this experience must be shared. Recently Pepitas announced they were changing their business model to become a pickup hub instead of a dine in restaurant. I support vegan business so I gave them another chance. I ordered the vegan fajita chicken tacos directly from the Pepita's Vegan website, as I have done many times in the past. The interior of the restaurant has completely changed and was being remodeled. I went to the pickup window, was promptly given my order, and went home. Upon opening my order I first noticed the portion size was much larger than previous orders. The second thing I noticed was the "vegan" chicken. The texture, smell, and appearance was that of real chicken. Dubious that a vegan chicken product could be so realistic, I had a friend take a piece of the chicken and try it. "That's real chicken," he said. It took several phone calls over multiple days to get someone on the phone to reverse the charges for the order on my credit card. I was told a manager would call me back, which never happened. So there you have it. A formerly all vegan restaurant now serves up real chicken on a menu item that is advertised as vegan, and can't be bothered to call the customer back to explain why such a colossal failure happened. I would rate this experience negative stars if possible. read more

I ordered delivery from here 20 minutes before Pepitas closed and I am shocked... at how good it was but also at the fact that they gave me free chips (and queso) which also happened to be fresh! I usually skip eating the chips from mexican spots because I find they have a stale crunch more often than not, but not here... the simple fact that I ordered right before closing and everything was fresh impressed me a lot! Try this place... You won't be disappointed in terms of flavor especially. I had a vegan birria taco and the chili cheese fries and wow. The flavor KICKS! Stopped in on a whim while visiting a vegan market in Denton & was happy that I did! The food was absolutely delicious - ordered the chimichanga with grilled "chicken" (which came with rice, beans and a side of tortilla chips) & a slice of tres leches cake which was truly the star of the show! I would happily make the 35+ drive for another piece of that cake alone! The staff member I encountered was very courteous and the restaurant itself was super cute! I got to say I wasn't too thrilled about coming here. But since we're out of town and my husband is Vegan,he never gets to eat birria and tacos al pastor. I was hesitant because back in Okc near the old Farmers market there's this popular vegan spot that is always busy and has high reviews, but I refuse to eat there! The food is just not great! I would rather fast! Anyway moving on. I enjoy tacos especially birria tacos. And this place has managed to remake these Mexican delicacies without any meat whatsoever! I had been getting Instagram ads for this place and wanted to try it so bad that yesterday even though I had just eaten four eggo waffles, and my friend asked if I wanted to go I said "I would love nothing more" Has a nice soft pink aesthetic, and the staff was super friendly and wonderful. The salsa that came with the chips is like the perfect amount of flavor and spicy. I got the fajita chicken tacos and honestly haven't had tacos this good since I stopped eating meat. I live in San Diego and am vegetarian so I eat a TON of Mexican food. These are some of the best tacos I've ever had, certainly the best vegan al pastor. I placed my order through their website. It was ready right when they said it would be, and very friendly service brought my order to my car in the drive thru lane. The tacos come with the most amazing refried black beans, good Mexican rice, delicious salsa, and perfectly salted chips. I also got a side of elote and that was stellar as well. i was excited to come to Pepitas and had no expectations. It was extremely casual..counter service to order and someone bring the food to the table in about 15-20 minute. There were 4 smallish vegetable empanada with cheese sauce on top and beans and rice, on the side. The flavor was similar to pot pie. The horchota was good too. I ordered a strawberry empanada to go. I was really sad when I got home and bit into it. The first little bite was fine..the empanada crust with cinnamon and sugar on it. The second bite revealed vegetables..so sad. I know it was an honest mistake but still a disappointment to me. :( read more

I'm admittedly an omnivore but sometimes, I like to dabble in the vegan delights. I LOVE that Pepitas is open right inside Milpa Kitchen & Cantina. After gazing at their menu online, I called in to order from Milpa AND then Pepitas. I wanted to lighten up my Mexican food so away we go! I ordered the elote, fruit cup with Tajin and the jackfruit birria tacos. I've never had birria tacos before. I've had jackfruit vindaloo so I knew it would be the consistency of pork. It's amazing how the texture and feel are like a pulled pork dish. I ordered the food, hopped on the highway and headed there. All of it was ready in the 15 minutes it took me to pull up. The elote was good, better than some in town, for sure. I could do without the shredded vegan cheese. It just doesn't melt quite right so I will opt out of that in the future. I'd order it again. The 3 birria tacos were nicely plated, excellent sides of refried black beans and rice. I ate about half of those before launching into an all out attack on those tacos! The homemade corn tortillas were built up with a layer of melted cheese, jackfruit, red onion, cilantro and maybe an avocado sauce green drizzle on top. The birria dipping sauce is very good, I used a spoon for every delightful bite. I ate all 3 of them, I couldn't resist. I'm saving that lovely fruit cup for my evening snack though. Even though I pigged out, I still didn't feel heavy or weighed down. I cannot wait to go back and try some more options. I was so satisfied, I didn't even want to nosh on the chips, queso or the deconstructed beef taco my hubby had ordered from Milpa. Well? What are you waiting for? I suspect the team is perfecting their menu and it will just keep getting better and better. Life is too short for boring foods! read more

We order Pepitas regularly and sometimes even for parties. I am a former vegetarian and not vegan, but I love trying new things and the soy is indistinguishable from good Al Pastor taco meat. We usually order that or the chimichanga. The vegan queso is wild at first and not super cheese like, but tasty; I do wish it was more spicy, though. I prefer Pepitas to their building sharing partner, Milpa, as it offers more of what I traditionally eat at a Mexican restaurant, but it still is missing some classics and is pretty pricey. I love that they took the pandemic seriously, and the drive thru is great! read more

I waited a day to leave this because we were so blown away at how good it was. We took home leftovers and they were still good the next day! Hubby is not vegan and he obliged me choosing this restaurant. Awe, so sweet! It even exceeded my expectations. The chimichanga was DEVINE! Hubby got the jackfruit tacos and can't stop raving. The chips were thin crispy and so fresh, all the salsas topped every Mexican restaurant we have ever been to. Can't say enough good about this spot! If you don't go, you're missing out. read more

I have been here a few times in hopes the next time would always be better, unfortunately I haven't experienced this though. This rice has always been overdone and the black beans have had very little flavor. The tacos are okay but everything here does seem to be lacking flavor, and everything I've tried has bordered on being bland. I would recommend casa del vegano or el palote panaderia in the DFW metroplex for vegan Mexican food that is flavorful. I was hoping to love this place since I live around here and attend UNT- but it is just not worth it. read more

Wow Pepitas Vegan Cocina is legit good! Very tasty all vegan Mexican food in Denton. The online ordering was super easy and so was the quick curbside pickup. Here we have the brisket birria tacos, elote, and sour cream enchiladas. So good! They were sold out of burritos and quesadillas so we will order those next time. The other side is for Pepitas, their vegan half of the restaurant. Yesterday morning, we got together for brunch - after having been vaccinated so felt a modicum of safety. The staff were all masked up and wearing gloves as they dispensed chips and salsa along the table. The red salsa is pretty mild so we asked for their green tomatillo, which has a little heat. I also asked for a side of refried black beans to use as a dip. The queso was good too. I'd been thinking about their new brunch board every since they've re-launched brunch! Holy frijoles! Torn between pozole because I love soup for breakfast. My hubby and I split the brunch board. It's a little pricey but you can totally split that meal with at least 3-4 people. It had a little bit of everything! Breakfast quesadilla bites stuffed with bacon, cheese and fluffy eggs. Brisket tostadas with eggs and veggies. A huge spinach, mushroom, onion omelette and some amazing pan fried potatoes with green peppers and onions. It all came with some sauce for the omelette but I was looking for some heat! The Diablo sauce was delicious and front of the tongue habanero spiced hit. I loved it all! AND there was a huge Mexican pastry split in half and generously slathered with Nutella and banana slices. We were able to share the pastry with the entire table. I would order that omelette on it's own. The breakfast potatoes are awesome and pan fried. I think the highlights were the brisket tostadas, piled high with meat, eggs and cheese. The pastry was delicious and dangerous - it's too close to summer for all that sugar. But, we'll definitely be back. The mimosas are made with fresh fruit and juices. The top shelf margaritas are worth what you pay for so just be mindful of ordering too many. I also took the leftovers for breakfast, snack and lunch again today. Muy bueno! What are you waiting for? Go there, get some. Life is too short for boring food - and be sure to add a side of Diablo to spice up your life :)
