Craving a hot dog is an off and on passion of mine. So today I wake up and decide to indulge that passion and get a hot dog at Dix Coney Island. I walk to Dix Coney Island. Upon entering, a lovely lady greets me immediately and gives me my choice of seating. Either a booth or a retro stool at the counter. Not desiring to sit alone at the counter, I choose a cozy booth. Each booth has its on lighting fixture emitting low glow tones that create an intimate feeling. I receive the menu and cast my eyes over the menu which offers the gamut of breakfast all day or varieties of burgers, Reuben's, and classics like pastrami or a Philly - definitely a New York vibe. Finally, my eyes focus on the hot dogs of which there are four options. I choose the Coney Dog, After waiting a few anxious minutes, I receive the luxurious Coney Dog. Thick hot dog nestled in meatless chili, mustard and and diced white onions, surrounded by crinkly fries. With no hesitation I lunged into a heavenly bite. As I finished lapping it up , I discovered on the table the Happy Hour Menu. Note to self, please try. Starting at 3:00 pm and going until 11:00pm you can have pitchers of mimosas or beers with a smattering of bar food choices. I'm thinking of the Jalapeño Poppers. For the sweet tooth, there is a sweet co-mingling of either English - Sticky Toffee Pudding or Mexican -Churros. The beautiful floor to ceiling windows give a clear view of the goings on at the Denton Square. If you are marrooned in Denton, I'd get myself over to Dix Coney Island and stay awhile. read more

Wasn't that great, wasn't that bad. Wasn't the best hotdog I ever had. Would I go back, have to wait to see. At the end of the day it just wasn't for me... Honestly though, the service was fine and the food was good for the price. read more

First time trying here because I wanted a dog. The service was good, then again I was the only person there when I went, and the food was good as well. I decided to try something different and got their pastrami dog. I can see why people were talking about the pastrami being salty and it was, though not too bad for what I got since there was so much going on. I don't do Mayo, so got it without that she overall it was a pretty good dog. I did decide to pay the extra $4 for chili cheese fries instead of regular fries, but it was soooo worth it. Yes the chili wasn't made there, so was made and shipped in (they said it was made in their Detroit location), but it's all good and tasted pretty good imo. Overall, I would have no problem going here again because while $15 is a little more than I wanted to spend, it was worth every penny read more

The food was okay but nothing special. We had really poor service and our waitress wasn't good or even friendly. I had to ask for coffee twice-once when ordering and once when the food came out because that was the only time we really saw her. We never got a refill on drinks. My husband ended up drinking my water when his ran out. I had one napkin to work with my entire meal and it was a messy one- and as far as we could tell there was no public bathroom to wash my hands. We weren't checked on until it was bill time. After the awful service, I had a charge on my bill that I wasn't expecting. I politely asked the waitress about it and she was nothing but rude. This was not a "let me talk to your manager" Karen situation, this was a simple ask about my bill and she got rude about it-the end. It might be a great place for some people. I noticed the other waitress being very friendly and attentive to her customers. They were all very welcoming to regulars. When I saw the sidewalk sign mentioning their Brioche French Toast, I decided to give this place a try. Fortunately, the notice on the door did not give me second thoughts. Rather than needlessly occupy one of the available tables and booths, I decided to sit at the counter. One of the three waitresses came over to take my coffee and food order. When I ran out of coffee and looking for my waitress, she was a few seats away on her meal break. Of the two remaining waitresses, only one was waiting on the diners at the booths and tables. Unless the third waitress was also on a break, she could have waited on me and allowed the other one peacefully enjoy her meal. Fortunately, my waitress regularly checked on me while on her meal break. As for my meal, the Brioche French Toast was okay. After confirming I was given maple syrup, my waitress offered more. I declined as I did want to drown the French toast. The egg custard was light on one side as I was tasting the bread; otherwise, it was okay. I enjoyed the sausage patties more than the french toast. My waitress left the counter, so one of the other two waitresses served my check. Stopped in for Halloween week. Never been here just happened to see it on the square. I don't know what was going on but under staffed is an understatement. I don't know if workers were a no show, but probably should not have been open with 1 waitress. First bad sign was the "seat yourself" we waited 15 plus minutes she kept saying be with you in a minute but never came! Tables were leaving. There was no apologies. I sat in the back, the table was dirty. Quite chaotic for a small restaurant. Took forever for them to even hand me a menu or give me silverware. Matter of fact, my silverware didn't come until I got my food and I had to ask for napkins. Dix is always the place to be for my friends and I whether it comes to birthday, a casual lunch/ breakfast, dinner...anything! I was hesitant to try the gyro given the last picture of it was 6 years ago and looked really sad, but I ordered it today & it was AMAZING! I usually get the 3 cheese grilled cheese but i'm lactose intolerant so i opted for something else that would be easier on my stomach. It was well worth the change of order! I was so excited to try this place! Monday night my friend and I ate at the restaurant and split the all American hot dog and pastrami burger. My friend only ate the hot dog and was fine. I ate both items. Approximately 8 hours after I was severely vomiting. I was sick for four days and I'm still sore and recovering. I called and talked to the manager. But I can only get a refund if have a doctors note for food poisoning. I unfortunately don't have health insurance at the moment. I've been home self medicating and have receipts of the medicine that I've purchased for recovery. Moral of the story is to please practice food safety protocols and check if your food is of good heath. And if you want a simple refund for getting sick at a restaurant and you have no insurance, then good luck because there is no winning. I've never had food poisoning before and this is by far that most physically painful thing I've experienced. read more

I brought my two friends here on a Sunday morning after church ; I myself love this place so much and wanted them to experience the same thing. The food was good for what it is, but it was over overpriced. We could have gone to a real restaurant rather than a diner for the same amount of money that we paid. I've visited this place a few times, and each time, the food has been passably priced, if not a bit expensive. It's annoying that their hours are often changing, so check ahead of time. It seems like they toss a dart at a board and close at that time--they're not angry, just puzzled. The price of the food means that we most likely won't be returning. Been eating here for years the food is always good and fairly fast. It's not life changingly good or anything but it's nice diner food in a cozy environment. They used to be open later but ever since covid they close at 11pm. My only complaint is that if you go later on the day (past 8pm or so) the hash browns and other fried items can have a slight taste of old cooking oil that needs to be swapped out, otherwise they're always solid. read more

I so wanted this place to shine. My wife was having a chili craving so I decided to take her there based on a Yelp search. Their chili was pretty good and meet her craving but didn't stand out as a great bowl of chili. The restaurant was very cold inside, we left our coats on. Between the 3 of us we had a chili dog, chili cheese burger, and one of their Dix dogs. We also split an order of chili cheese waffle fries. The hot dogs they use are kind of pricey for a standard sized hot dog not a 1/4 lb dog. The waitress was friendly but the service was not very good. The waitress actually slung part of the toppings off of my dog on to the floor and only decided to take it back to the kitchen after she saw the look on my face. And the spilled mayo and pickles were still sitting on the floor when we left. I guess we will have to continue the search for a great bowl of chili. read more

This place has a great location and vibe. Unfortunately the service has been very slow every time we come in. The food came out at different times and my order came out wrong.
