Being a Texas BBQ snob we have found only one other worthy 5 star BBQ restaurant in Florida after 15 years of living here. We gave up looking so bought our own smoker to lessen the BBQ withdrawals. We were in town for a wedding so had to eat and the reviews were excellent so we gave it a try. They serve you a bit like a buffet so you stand in line and they take your order and fill it as you move. The prices are higher but BBQ is worth it. Seating is very limited so avoid rush times and we sat in the little adjoining coffee type shop attached and ate. Good BBQ does not require sauce and brisket should have good bark and a smoke ring which they had. A perfect smoke flavor and it is a rare thing for this snobby ex-Texan to ever give a 5 star but it is worth every bite. read more

I discovered this place from watching Katina Eats Kilos and I absolutely HAD to try that brisket. I'm glad we made it there because it was hands down best brisket I've ever had. I also very much enjoyed the ribs. The mac and cheese was dry and underseasoned, and the potato salad was very good, but it tasted like Publix brand. The service was soso, the staff seemed easily bothered. Lastly, I didn't enjoy the flies being around. I want to give it 3.5 stars, but since that's not allowed, I will bump it to a 4. After eyeing this place for a while now! I am finally excited to actually stop by and try Pepper and Salt! The place was a bit small with not that much seating available, the noice was average, not too loud, and it was very clean. I got the pulled pork with a side of baked beans and a potato salad, while my father got the brisket accompanied by some mac and cheese and coleslaw. Both meats were very tender and juicy. The food is good and customer service is good that's never really been an issue with them. The issue I'm having is yes BBQ is pricey and we all know everything has gone up in cost there's no question but it's also very hard to absorb that cost as a customer when at the same time you're seeing on their facebook/social media multiple trips to europe etc...you'll see a trip to europe and then the next week the price went up $5 on an item....They've gone from mom and pop type to the we care more about the people buying catering, it's as though the little customer doesn't matter anymore. This was my first visit with Pepper & Salt & not for lack of trying. I have arrived previously when they had run out of food & another time when they had limited their menu and the items I was interested in were no longer available. First off, the tiny paper menu posted to the left of the meat counter is strange for a first time visitor. I ordered a smash burger w/ side of mac and cheese, as well as a plate w/ "moist" brisket, baked beans and green beans. I was told to order my burger at the register, I did and was told they were unsure if they had beef. Another worker then approached the worker at the grill and said they had left over beef from yesterday.. this should have been my first red flag. The burger was the DRIEST smash burger I've ever had and had overall lack of flavor. There was a sauce on the burger however, it didn't make a noticeable difference. My son's brisket was fine. He had already dug into this green beans for me to notice they were collard greens. Turns out they were out of green beans but failed to mention that at the time of ordering. This worked out as they were the only thing we finished. As for the baked beans - I am actually a big fan of baked beans but these again didn't have as much flavor as I expected. Not bad but nothing special. Mac and cheese also was nothing special. Consistency of velveeta but spiral noodles. I had imagined they would have baked Mac and cheese as most BBQ joints. I wish they'd consider making the switch. I arrived before lunch rush and the tables were pretty sticky and had visible food scraps, it seems the staff just aren't on top of wiping them down in between patrons. My husband and I came in for Friday lunch around 1:30... the place was hopping and the employees were working their behinds off to ensure everyone was taken care of efficiently. You get it line, read the menu that's mounted on the wall, and when it's your turn you order with their awesome folks at the counter. When ordering brisket they ask lean or moist, which is a fun touch. I went with the moist (the point) and the turkey on my two meat plate! We had selected our sides based on the menu, but we quickly had to pivot our choices when we learned they were sold out of everything except a couple of options! They're technically open until 7pm so to have run out of sides by 1:30 was a little sad. Make more sides- the demand is there and the people have spoken! LOL They served Jarritos soda bottles, Big Red, and multiple craft beer and hard seltzer options from the self-serve cooler. They also supposedly have amazing banana pudding... they were out of that too! Bottom line: this brisket is absolutely delicious, as is the turkey! This place was great! The smoker is in the house and when I ordered my food the guy turned around and pulled it right out of the oven. Apparently the only spices they use here is salt and pepper. I know, it's totally shocking that the name reflects exactly how they do it. The service was very friendly and this and the staff was helpful with any questions. The food was just great. First we were never greeted, we had no idea who was supposed to take our order we just got a few looks and nothing so we just had to wait quietly while the guy in the front cut up his meat. Everyone ignored us and there was a redhead that had an attitude with every customer. It was so bad that the person in front of us left, and the people after us asked us if this was normal. Brisket is really good - I got the 3 meat plate with double 'fatty' brisket where they call it moist and it was tender and full of flavor. It's on point with Little Miss BBQ in Phoenix. A great version of TX brisket. The sausage was good, not great - not sure if it's smoked too long or sitting in the hot box, but was dried out. But excellent flavor. Pork Belly burnt ends have a nice flavor and perfect bark! I got the potato salad and cole slaw as my two sides. Potato salad is tasty and has a nice surprise with the bacon. I'd like to try something else in lieu of the cole slaw. Overall, this is great BBQ and look forward to coming back. read more

Used to like this place's "brisket". I come every time I'm in town. However, I am Not a fan of chopped meats and this establishment won't serve it sliced anymore because of "cost". Workers said they were told it had to be chopped. I understand the inefficiencies of weighing sliced versus chopped meats, however definitely lost a client if I can't get a $20 plus meal my way. And may I suggest you offer "sliced"with a slight upcharge. read more

My husb had the lean brisket, pork belly, coleslaw and potato salad. Brisket was definitely the star!! I had the moist brisket and ribs with coleslaw and baked beans. Brisket was again the star, the ribs were quite good too! Both very tender. I had coleslaw and baked beans. The beans were awesome, not a huge fan of the sausage in the beans but I see it adds flavor, the coleslaw was fresh, not wet or overdressed. The ice tea was yummy too, could tell it was fresh. Great, small place - only 4 two top tables. You have to get the moist brisket for sure. Spicy sausage was yummy and pork belly was solid, but the brisket is where it's at. The baked beans are good, a little bland, but good with the meat and bbq sauces. Potato salad was good if you like a mayonnaise-y sweeter potato salad. Tater tots were actually really good. You get a large portion of sides when you get the meat plates. They also have an ice filled basin with canned and bottled beers/drinks which is a little inconvenient for seeing what drink you're picking, but it kinda works.
