Ken Pepper from Pepper Builders wasted months of my time. Ken lied to me saying that my job would get done in a timely manner. Ken lied to me when he said he would update me. Ken disrespected me as a client by telling me that other jobs were a priority for him over mine, despite promising for months that he was sending someone out to complete my job.
I have an HOA, so unfortunately I can't pick and choose what contractors will be sent to handle problems. I had a problem with my gutters and downspout. Ken Pepper was sent out to assess the exact problem and see what needed to be done.
The first time he came out, he provided an incorrect assessment. At the time Ken came, there was separate roofing work being done on my unit. Ken told me it was problems with the roofing and not with the gutter/ downspout. I seriously doubted it was the roofing because we have been having the gutter problem for years, long before the roofing work began. Still, when you have an HOA things are slow because based on Ken's assessment I now had to wait for the roofing work to be complete. Once the roofing work was done, the very next rainfall proved that the roof was NOT the issue...the gutter and downspout were still having the exact same problem.
Ken came out a second time, and this time he agreed the gutters/ downspout were actually the problem. Ken told me that he was on it and would send guys out within a couple weeks to assess the problem and do whatever was needed to fix the gutters/ downspout. I specifically asked Ken to keep me updated with dates that his guys would come out, what the problem was, what would be done to fix the issue, and dates work would be scheduled. Ken told me he would, but I never heard from him again.
I contacted him myself two months later asking for an update. He had no idea who I was or what I was talking about. When he looked into my job, he told me that his worker had a "major personal problem" and he would need to find someone else. Again, I asked him to please keep me updated.
I waited two more weeks and still no word from Ken. I e-mail him. Two days go by with no response. I text him letting him know I e-mailed him. It turns out Ken is out of town! I said I would wait and will contact him when he is back from his trip. However, he asks me to remind him who I am and what my job is...because once again he has no idea who I am.
This is when unacceptable behavior begins. Ken tells me that his company is having "personal problems" and that I will have to wait...he says that maybe he will get to my job in two months. He tells me that other jobs are more of a priority for him.
I tell Ken that I will be contacting him periodically to remind him because he always forgets about me and my job. He responds that he can't update all of his jobs, and begins blaming me for his unprofessional behavior saying I am bothering him while he is on vacation and doesn't have any paperwork with him. I remind him that I wanted to wait for him to come back to town so we could speak then but HE wanted a reminder about what my job was.
Ken lied to me saying that this job would get done in a timely manner. Ken lied to me when he said he would update me. If I wasn't periodically checking in with Ken, it really seems like he would have never remembered he had a pending job at my home. After the whole experience, I seriously doubt what kind of quality Ken's work would even be. I contacted my HOA and removed Ken Pepper from my job. I will be scheduling with another contractor and must now begin the whole process all over again.
I would NOT recommend this unprofessional contractor to anyone. read more
