    chill the kid hot sauce
    Andrew C.

I have never seen a place that only sells hot sauce and a fairly sizable variety of hot sauces There has to be several types of hot sauces that are produced in the world, and they maybe all sold here at Pepper Palace. The truth is all these hot sauces, spice rubs, and so on are created in New England. We could not avoid wandering through the store and viewing the variety of products. Oh and of course, buying as well.

The restaurant was packed, and since we didn't have a reservation, we ended up sitting in the bar area. Honestly, that wasn't a bad thing--the views of the sunset and the wharf were beautiful. The drinks came out quickly, although my cocktail had way too much citrus. The oysters arrived next, and they were fresh and delicious, so we were all feeling pretty good about the meal and looking forward to our entrées. Unfortunately, that's where things went downhill. We waited an entire hour for our entrées to arrive, and the waitstaff wasn't very forthcoming with updates. We had to track someone down anytime we had a question or needed something, which became very frustrating. Once the food finally arrived, it was disappointing. Several of the dishes were extremely salty. I ordered the swordfish, which was slightly overcooked, and the vegetables were overwhelmingly acidic, as if an entire bottle of vinegar had been poured over them. They were also topped with a generous amount of capers, making the dish even saltier. Overall, it just wasn't enjoyable. I mentioned my concerns to our waitress, but unfortunately, she didn't seem particularly concerned. Hopefully, she passed the feedback along to the chef so some adjustments can be made. The beautiful waterfront setting and fresh oysters were definitely highlights which gained a star here but unfortunately, the long wait, lack of communication, and disappointing entrées overshadowed the experience.

Very fresh and honestly, very affordable for the aesthetic, quality, and taste. Plus the service is great. I've had their pastas, entrees, apps, pizza, and drinks and there is nothing you can go wrong with. My personal favorites is their kale salad, chianti marsala braised beef and mushroom tagliatelle. Again, the quality is great and everything is seasoned/ flavored well. Plus their pastas are homemade! They also give free bread, who doesn't love that? I cannot recommend this place enough. Perfect for a date night or night out with friends.

Every table and bar seat was packed so I highly recommend having a reservation or be prepared to wait a bit. The Romaine & Kale Caesar Salad with Chicken Milanese was genuinely tremendous. Such an elite combination from the freshness & creaminess of the salad to the crispiness and saltiness of the Chicken Milanese. Since we were sharing, they pre-split the portion for us which was a nice hassle-free experience. I could've honestly ended the meal here and been super content. I rarely see oven roasted pizza on the menu so we decided to try the Oven Roasted Chicken Grilled Pizza. The best part was actually the dough; it's thin enough where the roasted/grilled flavor comes through. The pesto and arugula were both good and paired well with the grilled chicken. The Tagliatelle was savory, earthy, and not overly creamy. The pasta itself was cooked just right. Since we were celebrating a birthday, I was so grateful that they offered us a complimentary slice of Limoncello Mascarpone Cake. It was so good! Moist, creamy, and not too sweet or citrusy. It was a pleasant bite to end the meal on. Great spot!

It was great to eat in such a historic place. It felt like you are sitting in history, which you are! But I mean like making your own little mark. The food was fine. I loved the clam chowder that was my favorite. I got a seasonal steak with sea salt I thought it was just ok. My partner loved his beef wellington, I thought it had a sweet flavor I didnt care for. We also had a really good wine. The service was great very attentive without being overbearing and we had a great view out the window. Definitely recommend this place just for the history alone.

Not too much flavor, but I loved the addition of the prosciutto to the beef. The lobster bisque was just ok as well, tasted too much of just cream. The star of the dinner was the beef tartare, surprisingly. It was extremely flavorful, with all sorts of spices mixed into the beef, notably capers and cornichons. Delicious and served with amazing homemade potato chips. Service was good and dress code was more relaxed than I had imagined, so that was nice as well. Bread pudding and Tavern Candy Bar are delightful dessert options as well.

We decided to make a little outing of it and ordered the large cinnamon bun, a raspberry doughnut, and two pupusas. The food itself? Good. The cinnamon bun definitely lived up to the hype (only reason for 2 stars), and everything else was decent. Unfortunately, the overall experience took away from it. From the moment we walked in, it felt like you were being moved through like cattle. Everything felt very rushed, and there wasn't really time to stop, look at the menu, or figure out what you wanted without feeling pressured to keep moving. While the bakery items came out quickly, we still ended up waiting about 30 minutes after checkout for the rest of the food. The atmosphere was also incredibly loud, and there seemed to be confusion among staff about whose order belonged to who and what name matched which ticket. On top of that, the trash area was piled high, and instead of changing it right away, an employee brought out a new bag and just set it in front of the overflowing trash, which wasn't the best look. Overall: good food, disappointing experience. Felt chaotic and stressful rather than enjoyable.

It was a Saturday afternoon so the Main Street it's on was pretty busy but the parking lot had room and it wasn't too packed inside. I purchased three cookies for $21 which is a lot for 3 cookies. The unlucky leprechaun cookie was definitely my favorite but the other two with white chocolate just had that typical gluten-free aftertaste to them so I think chocolate is the way to go. I feel so bad for gluten free people... it just tastes better. The cookies were definitely better warmed up a bit. Not sure if I'll stop by again but they weren't bad.
