Took the kids to Pepperjax to use the back-to-school Wednesday special. I had steak Philly, the kids had chicken strips and fries. The food was good. It was 83 degrees in the restaurant (I could tell it was hot so I peeked at the thermostat). I mentioned it to one of the workers who was leaving the same time we were. He said the A/C in the lobby was working, but not on the line, where it was really hot. C'mon, Pepperjax management, that's inhumane. The family wanted PepperJax food so I tried to call in an order. Take out is only through 3rd party vendors. Interesting. Went there and the initial person behind the grill greeted me and took my order. I believe she was the manager. She started the meat on the grill and then passed it down to the next person on the grill. Ordered a Spicy Philly Fireball Sandwich, a Junior Philly Steak Meal, and fries. The Philly Fireball was fine. They cooked the fries fresh so it was just a minute to finish. The Jr Philly Meal - I asked for no jalapeno, but they were mixed in the meat that I tried to pick out. They never asked about toppings for the Jr sandwich, but did provide once I asked for it. The "treat" that was supposed to come with the meal was never offered. I haven't been to a Pepperjax restaurant in over 5 years. This location in the Lakeside Plaza is convenient with plenty of parking, especially when the Wells Fargo Bank is closed after hours. Food selection was simple, ordering at the counter was relatively easy, and the service was fine. The food was ready in a few minutes. The only complaint I had was that the cardboard takeout containers are pretty flimsy and change the study shape of the box, making it difficult to keep closed after a while. The flavor and sauces were good, and a return visit will be in store for the near future. read more

Now, me personally, I don't like the types of sandwiches they have. Just not my type of sandwich but my boyfriend LOVES them. But once I found out they have burritos and bowls I had to try them and THEY ARE MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE. 10x better than the others around that are quite popular. The flavors are amazing, the portions are perfect, and they have options available I'm not used to seeing elsewhere. 10/10 would recommend and I'm pretty sure I'm going there for lunch today after writing this review! read more

Good stuff. It's fairly cheap, and is really satisfying. You get a good amount of steak with the sandwich, and all the veggies you want. I get it cooked with the fireball jalapeno juice which honestly isn't too spicy. They also have a free sauce bar with a bunch of different flavors. I recommend getting the steak sandwich cooked with the fireball jalapeno juice and trying one or two of the sauces. read more

The worst experience of my life. Being my first time at this establishment I thought it would be more organized . The cashier switched in the middle of my order. They didn't know what I ordered. Placed another customers fry order before mines and I had already been waiting for over five minutes to have to wait an additional three after my sandwich had already been cooked. Once again Pepperjax doesn't disappoint! I showed up very late (about 5 min to close) and they were working on cleaning up and I thought I was too late but Alexa the MOD greeted me with a smile (under her mask) and a super friendly tone and made my order and even grabbed stuff out of the back that was probably already used up off the line and they made me 2 perfect steak burritos which are my favorite. This is exceptional service and the best attitude from 2 different locations that I had the pleasure to visit. I am a lifer for sure and if you can promote Alexa any more than she already is you need to do it because she has what can't be taught and that is her personality and heart. I will always come back to both this and the other location that I have had above exceptional service from and anyone reading this should too! Way to go Alexa! read more

The issue that I encountered was the terrible lack of distancing in the line and the complete absence of masks by those respective patrons. I grew up on the East Coast eating some of the best cheesesteaks on the planet... This place isn't the best, however... They are DAMN good for a Midwest sub-shop! Most of the sub shops out here are seriously pathetic! These guys have the right sub rolls, the right amount of meat (freshly prepared)... cheese is good ... peppers seem fresh & this joint has quality food FAST...with a good blend of customer service. Although their seasoning is a bit too salty for me...(my only real criticism of the food)... Try making your order without the seasoning on it & I do believe you'll like this cheesesteak. It'd been a while since I'd had Pepperjax and to be honest, I wasn't that big of a fan back then. However, enough time had passed that I was willing to give it another shot. Things change, standards are raised, etc. Following an absolute brutal workout, I needed some quality proteins, carbs and fats. This calls for a big ol' burrito! I went with a chicken burrito (double the meat, DOUBLE THE PROTEIN!) with cheese, lettuce, tomato, sour cream and mild sauce. I'd also heard good things about the fries, so I snagged a small order and a drink. Sitting down to devour this gigantic burrito, I can assure you that it did taste good, the ingredients were appeared fresh and yeah, it was a solid burrito. However, what essentially happened is we got into a Chipotle-off and in that arena, for me, Pepperjax loses. I feel Chipotle has better ingredients and a quality product despite the scandals it's presented over the past few years. However, I can get a burrito of high quality for far less at Abelardo's, so I'm hit with a bit of a conundrum. Why even bother with Pepperjax in the first place? Maybe for a cheesesteak, but then we'd be talking about a battle with Jersey Mike's and again, I can't say I'd choose Pepperjax. The one redeeming quality was the fries. They're awesome and if I came back with friends, I'd probably just get an order of loaded fries and a drink. The set up was no different than a fast food style restaurant and then, when I got home I noticed they put on an automatic 18% tip. Would you leave a tip at McDonalds or Subway? I don't think so! And even so, an automatic tip is deceitful. I ordered, I got my own drink, I threw my trash away. DON'T GO HERE. The price should be the price and you should have the choice. Pepperjax is a great restaurant. They cook your food in front of you which is always a plus. The cheese steaks are delicious, you get your choice of beef or chicken or vegetarian. One order of fries can easily be split between two people. HyVee carries them in the frozen section along with the Pepperjax seasoning.
