Perhaps the best sandwich I've eaten in Pittsburgh! Make your way to Peppi's and bring cash. A fairly simple menu with sandwich options for everyone. I had the cheesesteak and it was delicious with peppers, onions, steak, cheese, lettuce and tomato - the bread is excellent, too! They have indoor and outdoor seating so be sure to ask for directions to the back patio. Don't let the line deter you, it's worth the wait!

cash only reliable staple I have to give it to this place! Reliable, affordable, with warm and fast service. The sub itself was quite simple. My friend and I agreed it could use seasoning, but with some heavy addition of malt vinegar I thought it was a quick remedy. I would recommend giving this place a try for a tasty bite and wonderful service. I personally find that a lot of subs are even better as leftovers, which was definitely the case here!

Peppi's is such a nostalgic place and rarely disappoints! Stepping straight into 1985 pittsburgh, with wooden bench seating and pics of pittsburgh and sports celebrities. Much cleaner than Primanti's!! We decided to go ahead of a pirates game since we were parking in the northside anyway. Everyone working the counter was super kind and friendly and for one of the most casual places ever, they have great service. We got the cajun fries, the big Nate and the New Yorker! Everything was hot fresh and ready fast. Remember it's CASH ONLY!!!

Great food and even greater service. Everyone working seemed to be so happy and enjoyed being there which somehow made the sandwich taste even better? Sandwiches were huge and hearty. Spicy Cajun fries weren't too spicy but definitely had the Cajun flair going on. Highly recommend stopping in and just chatting it up at the service counter. They are a delight!

We came here on Saturday morning. The staff was friendly and helpful in ordering. I got the Italian regular with LTO peppers and banana peppers served hot and with mayo and the oil blend. I also got the combo with the drink and fries. I don't particularly love fresh cut fries but for what they were they were good. The sub was soooooo good. I would get it again for sure. The atmosphere was very old-timey and minimal. We loved it.

Pittsburgh staple. Delicious sandwiches. Best fries in town with the cheese. Friendly staff. Good environment. Nothing says Pittsburgh more than this restaurant. Will leave you stuffed leaving the establishment. If you are going remember cash only.

Nice to actually go to where the sandwiches is has before are made fresh. All our sandwiches were delicious and the fries and chicken fingers a friend ordered were also good. Service was friendly. It was very hot, but not unbearable. The atmosphere is super casual/cafeteria. They also only accepted cash, which was very strange.

Family friendly and delicious food. My 3 kids say it's 5*, and I agree. I come here with clients for a casual lunch, and I bring family.

Wow! What a great sandwich!…read more My wife and I visited Pittsburgh for the first time on July 30th, 2026. This is gonna sound crazy, but we stopped in for a sandwich at 9:00 a.m.!!! They've been around since 1933 and when you walk in you can feel the history. The walls are covered with painted caricatures of famous locals. This place is an institution. My wife and I sat at the counter and ordered a roast beef sandwich. All sandwiches come topped with tomatoes, coleslaw, and french fries. Yes, you read that correctly, they pile fresh cut fries onto all their sandwiches! The sandwich was massive and delicious! We are so happy we sought this place out and you will be too! Seek it out!

There was no line when we arrived, yet the wait for our food was surprisingly long, and service throughout the meal wasn't particularly attentive. I ordered the pastrami and cheese, and, the sandwich itself was excellent. The pastrami was moist and flavorful, and the coleslaw was easily another highlight--fresh, crisp, and really good. The fries, however, were a bit soggy and didn't do much for me. I was also surprised to find a piece of plastic wrap in my sandwich, which was definitely concerning. Also the sandwich is so loaded that it quickly soaks through the parchment paper. A tray or plate would make the experience much less messy. Glad I got to try such an iconic Pittsburgh spot, and the pastrami lived up to the hype, but the service and a few details kept it from being the experience I was hoping for.

I will say, I was a little underwhelmed based on how much hype I heard, but that could honestly just be because of what I ordered. I ended up getting a cheesesteak, and coming from being used to Philly cheesesteaks, I think I had pretty high expectations that just were not met here. That being said, it was still fine, and I am glad I got to try it. The service was nice and quick, which I appreciated. I definitely plan on going back to try one of their more famous sandwiches so I can give it another shot and hopefully change my outlook. I am not counting them out just yet.
