3.75. I saw this place years ago on Diners, Drive-in's and Dives and have wanted to try it ever since. For some reason we just never went despite many visits to the South Side. One night recently when undecided of where to have dinner my wife said hey we've been wanting to try Nadine's so let's go. When we pulled up it lived up I was pleased to see they had their own parking lot. First impression of outside and inside was that it was definitely a dive bar, but that's not a bad thing. It's a tiny little place, long and narrow. It seemed like most of the patrons were local regulars. The menu was bigger than I expected and was surprised to see that they even offer breakfast service. We sat at the bar and we were quickly greeted. I decided to try the soup of the day which was lasagna soup. It wasn't bad, but not amazing. It could have had a little more seasoning. I then ordered a Reuben and my wife had a cheesesteak. The food was cooked right in front of us on a tiny little griddle behind the bar. It didn't take long for the food to arrive. It was all pretty solid. My wife seemed to enjoy her sandwich as did I. I should have asked for more Russian dressing for my Reuben but it was good. read more

I was able to return to Nadine's after a five year absence. I was in the area and decided to stop for breakfast. I arrived around 7:40 AM on a Friday morning. Parking is still free, most seating is at the bar and there are a few tables. I had two eggs over medium, sausage, with home fries. All food was served pretty quickly. This is definitely a no frills kind of spot, but with friendly bar staff who can cook. We stopped in on a Saturday evening and sat down at the bar. There looked to be a few tables towards the back, but the place is small and its majority bar seating. We ordered two blue moons at $4.50 each, a cheeseburger with fries, and the roast beef sandwich with fries and gravy. I was surprised to see that the grill is located right at the bar. We watched as our food was prepared by the same bartender serving our drinks! The food was decent. Exactly what was expected. The burger was a good size patty and they stuck two pieces of cheese on there with the lettuce and tomato I asked for. The roast beef sandwich and fries were smothered with a thick, flavorful gravy. I did take out as it was pretty packed that day. But the food was delicious and affordable. I didn't even have enough time to take pictures beforehand as I was very hungry. Great little bar! Finally had the pleasure of checking this place out on New Year's Day. It was packed and so fun. We all got breakfast food to sop up our hangovers. Wow what a wonderful place. Family owned, operated and run. So down to earth is the atmosphere and the patrons. I sat at the bar for lunch and I had homemade stuffed pepper soup and a homemade pulled pork sangwitch. All the food is from scratch and local and amazing. The staff is so attentive. The portions are large, always cooked to order. There are typically two people working, a waitress and a cook. You get to witness the preparation. The food was good and basic. Minimal spices. The sausage biscuits and gravy tasted like just that. Regular gravy, sausage separate, and biscuits. Breakfast scramble was just what it said on the menu. Nothing more. Lackluster and commonplace are also good definitions. I don't think you'll get a bad meal here, but you also won't get a great one. Served on paper plates and the coffee mugs were probably bought at the goodwill next door. Nice looking part of Southside. Pretty quiet and away from the hustle and bustle. Quaint outdoor seating. Nadine's doesn't have any frills--the food is even served on paper plates-- however, they serve a quick, cheap, and delicious breakfast! I ordered the breakfast sandwich with sausage on an English muffin and a side of home fries. The food is cooked right behind the bar and brought right to you when it's finished! The service was also phenomenal. Our waiter checked on us frequently and had our food out to us very quickly. Nadine's is known for serving alcohol early and is a popular spot among locals for a morning drink any day of the week. For what it is, Nadine's gets five stars! read more

Went to Nadine's for breakfast with my wife. We sat at the counter as the place was packed. The waitress came write over with menus and asked what we wanted too drink. I had 2 eggs over easy with bacon and home fries and white toast. The food was ok nothing special at all. The home fries where lacking in taste. The eggs where cooked correctly and tasted fine. The one nice thing is they do have there own parking lot so as long as it is not too busy you do not have too pay for parking. The staff where friendly and the service was fast. Unfortunately I was not thrilled with the food as it really was nothing special. We came for brunch on the weekend, and the place was packed. They seemed short staffed when we were there. It probably took an hour from when we first stepped in to when we got our food. The atmosphere though was incredible. Everyone seemed to know each other and they were just hanging out at their friend's diner. The food was great and affordable. I had two eggs with sausage and hash browns. We actually met Nadine and she was the nicest lady. I'm not sure I would come back though when there are so many options nearby. A hole in the wall, small and can get packed, cheap drinks, mixed drinks are exactly what you would expect for the price, and all the breakfast is greasy and delicious! "Where do you find these people?" This was Earl's question to our friend Brad, a regular and local (you probably know him). Well, my wife, our other friend, and I live in California. I don't think he held that against us, though. We all had a good time here after a recent Steelers game. I hope yinz appreciate places like Nadine's, because similar establishments are hard to come by where we live. I have no idea where I could get a fried bologna sandwich in SoCal (although I'm sure some hipster gastropub will be featuring one soon). And Yuengling? Forget about it! I have to say, though, that the people here are probably the biggest draw. Neighborhood hangouts like this are a prized commodity in our ever-changing world. Whether you're a fifth-generation Southsider or a tourist from a far, exotic land like Orange County (don't call it "The OC"), you will feel right at home at Nadine's. TY saw this on Food Network's Diners, Drive-ins and Dives (Episode 313 All in the Family), so it was a must-stop. It was a small little stand-alone building at one end of South Side and you wouldn't know what it was except for the neon sign and the banner outside claiming its recent celebrity status. It's one of those places where you step in and what you see is what you get. And what you see is one long bar with a bunch of stools, a couple of high top tables and a few regular ones, and that's it. It runs lengthwise and sprinkled around are various slot/poker machines. There are a few flat screens and TVs scattered around with the game on. They have the specials listed right next to the door and Nadine herself was behind the counter, having a smoke. Which leads me to the four-star status. I just don't like smoke when I'm eating. I don't like it when I'm not eating, but I especially don't like it when I am trying to savor food. I know it's legal and all in PA, but it still ruins the experience. But in a way, enhances it, because you would expect it to be a smoke-filled kind of place. Anyway, their specials are $4.50 and I had the bowl of chili and grilled cheese sandwich. TY had the meatball sandwich and both were exceptional. Nadine's is a South Side staple. It's a restaurant/bar that's been iconic forever. Whether it's 2am or 2pm Nadines is a great place to visit. The food here is your typical diner food with extremely low prices. When you walk in you'll see the large bar with seats all around. It is a seat yourself place and sometimes there's none available but it's worth the wait. Also, the drinks here are extremely cheap. You can come here get 2 bloody Mary's and food and it'll be around $10-$15 which is unheard. Some food items I like here are their breakfast hoagie and the mixed grill. If there's any kind of special on the board get it!!! Especially whatever soup of the day it is. If you're lucky it'll be broccoli and cheddar which is some of the best I've ever had. I have been here a few times but only for drinks I never ate here until yesterday. I went yesterday with my dad and cousin after they helped me make a garden in my back yard and we wanted a place we could get drinks and good food and we were not disappointed with our choice. I got the chicken quesadilla and it was delicious super crispy on the outside with melty cheese, chicken and peppers on the inside. I also got the fresh cut fries which were also perfect.
