One of Downtown Urbana's newer establishments has become a local stop for Tapas and visiting friends! I've been a regular since they opened a couple of years ago and these are 2 of my favorite dishes! The octopus and Shrimp skewer is my go to along with the goat cheese stuffed piquillo peppers! A little heat from the harissa goat cheese filling is perfect with some crusty bread! The sausage sampler also goes well with the peppers!...this is a very chill atmosphere so if you're in a rush try it another time! They have limited cooking space so dishes can take time depending on how busy it is! Luis and Sam are very attentive and aim to please along with Zeke and Gaetanno is the kitchen! The food is great but the last time we went there the vibe was way off. They had some guy waiting on us who brought out some very large charcuterie board after we ordered 4 small plates. My wife said, what is that? The guy said you ordered this (we only ordered things under the tapas menu). We told him we didn't order that and he started at us for 10 seconds. He then said one of the appetizers was half off (I believe it was the shishito peppers). I'm not sure why he said that..it was very odd and he just stared. Dude should have written our order down because we ordered like 5 different things. He clearly messed up. I left him a $50 dollar tip on a $80 tab. Very reasonable pricing for everything and we loved how we could order a bunch of tapas to try instead of one large meal. We went multiple times during our trip because it was so good. Absolutely outstanding! We didn't have one thing that was not the most flavorful food I've had in a long time. We went on a Sunday and they were not busy, which is shocking with the high level of food flavor happening here. We had the olive oil and bread, pattatas bravos potatoes, meatballs to start for starters. The olive oil and bread dip was fresh and bursting with flavor. The meatballs were different than any I've tasted but delicious. The saffron in the meatballs elevated it to another level. The potatoes were perfectly cooked and delicious! We then had steak skewers and crab cake sliders. Again very tender, flavorful, and fresh! We wrapped it up with cheesecake (best I've ever had), crème brûlée, and raspberry ginache. The raspberry ginache had multiple layers of flavor, crunch and creaminess. The entire meal was outstanding! Service was perfection! If you have not eaten here it is a must. Cost was also very reasonable and in my opinion cheaper than chain restaurants but 1,000 times better. It was so good we forgot to take pictures. read more

Went to Pequenos for the first time for my birthday dinner and wow! What a dinner. We started with an octopus appetizer and continued with spicy stuffed peppers. After a couple more small plates we ended with cherry ganache for dessert. Each dish was wonderfully paired with a Spanish or Portuguese wine. The wine selection was not excessive but each was well chosen. Our server was very knowledgeable and helped with selections throughout the evening. Understand that this is a tapas and wine bar. Come prepared to slow down and enjoy small plates while trying new wines. Expect to be impressed! read more

I wish I could give them 6 stars! Far and away one of the best restaurants we've ever tried. The bacon-wrapped dates will ruin you for anything else ever- they're that good! So approach with caution. Nothing we tried was less than delicious. Staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. They were more than happy to talk about the menu and one of the owners gave us his backstory for his inspiration for the restaurant. All in all, a top-notch experience and we will definitely be back to try more of the menu! read more

UPDATE (8/24/25): We returned to Pequeños yesterday afternoon without a reservation. We sat outside in the cozy lounge area tucked away at the far end of the patio. Our server, Sam, was outstanding. Knowledgeable, attentive, and provided us with several recommendations. At a time when service has declined more and more at most establishments, Sam was a welcome break from the norm. To drink, we had the rosé and the Tempranillo, both of which were very tasty. As for the food, the olive tapenade, goat & baguette; the stuffed piquillo peppers; and the spicy chorizo & scallion polenta were all delicious. However, the burrata and bacon wrapped dates were absolutely fantastic. Overall, we had a very lovely time. We will certainly be back. ORIGINAL POST: Planned our first visit here days in advance by making a reservation. Had the reservation confirmed. Received multiple reservation reminders. Arrived from out of town to find the restaurant closed. No advanced notice, no sign on the door. Had to track down the post on Facebook (which was made after we received our final reservation reminder) that you were closed for the Fair. My wife and I popped into Pequeños around 1:00 on a Sunday. Other than an empty microbrewery a few doors down, they were the only restaurant open in the whole downtown area. Apparently, Urbana completely closes down on Sunday...yawn. That's okay, because this place was really good. They only had two guys working - the cook and the bartender/waiter. They kept up just fine, and the service was good. We both had a glass of the special brunch sangria, and was perfect for a humid day. We split the hummus plate, and my wife had a Spanish caprese salad small plate that she really enjoyed. I had the curry chicken salad sliders, and they were really good too. We weren't looking for a full meal, so we stopped there. The place was clean, the staff was friendly, and the food was good. If we're back in Urbana again I will definitely stop in for some wine and a full dinner. A solid 5. read more

Holy management issues.... We had a reservation set for the evening of Valentine's Day. As soon as we walk in, we notice that all of the tables were taken with several guests waiting to be seated. The manager (owner?) immediately tells us that he has tables in the basement, which is their wine cellar. We agreed. It was extremely chilly down there. But a decent vibe. Our server was absolutely incredible, but I think he was carrying the whole restaurant on his shoulders that night as he seemed overwhelmed. We ordered tapas and entrees within 15 minutes of being seated. Several times, the manager would come in and check if we were doing okay. On the third time, we asked him for water/coke refills. 20 minutes go by and nothing. He arrives again and asks how we were doing, I ask again for the water and coke. Still nothing for another 20 minutes until our waiter shows up and he brings out the drinks immediately. At this point all we have eaten are the tapas an hour and a half in. No entrees. At one point another staff member was cleaning the table across from us and she said she'll make sure to bring the food out immediately. TWO HOURS go by and still no entrees. We cancelled the rest of the order at this point. As we were leaving the restaurant- all new faces were seated and being served. Kudos to the chef, the tapas were incredible. Kudos to our server as he was extremely helpful (even gave us a glass of wine on the house as an apology). I wanted to love this place. Maybe we will give it another shot in the future on a night that isn't a holiday. read more

One of our favorite places to enjoy a great meal. The service is friendly and efficient. So many interesting menu options bursting with flavor! The Sangria is also very good- I love that it isn't too sweet. We started with the olives and a Caesar salad. Stopped in last Sunday for a late lunch. We were greeted by the owner and had some fun with our limited Spanish while getting acquainted and seated at la barra. We ordered 3 tapas to share. Portions were true tapas portions . But also more than adequate for us. All dishes were delicious but The buratta caprese and the egg torta were real stand outs. We live about 25 miles south of Urbana and had heard that a tapas restaurant had opened there. We decided after a visit to Bellefontaine and heading south to stop and have dinner. We are really glad we did! This was amazingly authentic and tasteful. The wine list is appropriately all from the Iberian peninsula, and each one seemed well selected.
