Saw sexual misconduct of the middle class starring Hugh jackman. It was a really great show and I was surprised by how much I liked it. Seats are ok. It's pretty small so visibility even in the back is good. Unfortunately if you're upstairs if you sit across from the stairs you're going to have to climb over everyone if you want to get down to the bathroom. At least it was clean and big. read more

Came on Saturday afternoon 3pm with a friend to see Creditors running May 10-June 18. The show is scheduled twice a day on weekends (3pm & 7pm), and 7pm on selected weekdays. Terrific acting and I enjoyed checking out this cozy off-broadway production in West Village! We arrived about 35 minutes before the show started, waited around a bit for the will call line to shorten, then picked up tickets about 20 minutes prior to doors opening. The line for the show itself started forming about 15-20 minutes prior to the show start time, they let people in around a quarter to 3pm, and started 8-10 minutes late. Ushers were very clear on the rules--no changing seats, or entering/leaving during the show, which had a 90 minute run time with no intermissions. There are about 15 rows of seats on the ground floor, slightly graduated as you got closer to the back exits, and everyone had good line of sight to the cast, who played their parts on a raised wooden stage about 30 feet across. Exposed brick walls of the building lent a simultaneously vintage hipster and distressed contemporary vibe to the theater. This particular play had a mix of seating and bookshelves, coffee table/side tables for props. Ushers were professional and courteous, the audience seats were fabric covered, not new, though decent enough for 1.5 hours of sitting. For the production itself--Liev Schreiber, Maggie Siff and Justice Smith were the three actors in this play by August Strindberg, adapted by Jen Silverman, directed by Ian Rickson. Each pulled their own weight, and convinced me of their characters, though I wasn't sure how to feel about an abruptness in the storyline. All in all I'm curious to see another show here! read more

I've seen multiple Off-Broadway shows at Minetta Lane, and I really enjoy the work they are doing. Last year they had Dead Outlaw, a night with Alex Newell. They ate currently are running a set of plays and readings in collaboration with TOGETHER, being led by Sonia Friedman and Hugh Jackman. I've seen both of the main plays for this collaboration - "Sexual Misconduct of the Middle Class" and "Creditors". They are decent plays, and it's exciting to see this off-broadway venue host new productions with top tier talent. The theater is pretty intimate and I've sat all over the theater - the rake is just enough for everyone to get a good view. read more

The theater is not ADA compliant. They do not have the minimum number of wheelchair spaces required by the ADA and they sell tickets for the two spaces they do have to people who do not need that accommodation, making it impossible for people who actually need wheelchair access to get them through TDF and lottery/rush distributions, violating the ADA requirement for accessible seating to be available for all promotions and means of sale. When you do get an ADA seat, it's uncomfortable because the floor is sloped, another violation of the ADA as wheelchair spaces are required to be on a flat surface. read more

Nestled on a narrow side street in the West Village, the Minetta Lane Theatre is a cozy space with friendly staff, decent leg room (in fact better than that of many large uptown theatres), reasonable ticket prices and a spacious stage. It's a perfect space to showcase intimate performances like the excellent "Swing State" which I saw today. I hadn't seen anything at Minetta Lane for many years, I believe my last visit was to see Spaulding Gray's introspective WASPY monologue back in the 90s. RIP Spaulding. But I digress.... "Swing State", a somber drama set in small town Wisconsin, centers on the country's current crises of addiction, aging alone, mental health issues and law enforcement. In many situations patience and a kind word is more appropriate than the barrel of a gun. Of course it's hard for officers to make that call in a split second, but the wrong call can result in irreversible devastation to all concerned - the central theme of "Swing State." Loved the play and the 4 actors who performed in it, although I can't say it was much fun to sit through. read more

The Minetta Lane Theatre a.k.a. the Audible theater host a few different shows every few months. I had the pleasure of visiting the theater while Hugh Jackman was playing his rendition of the author in the play "sexual misconduct of the middle classes". He starred alongside actress Ella Beatty. This performance was brilliant, heartwarming, and told in a one person perspective. I am so glad that I got the opportunity to score free tickets and was able to bring friends. We were seated in rear Orchestra, where the seats were comfy. Additionally, we also got to meet Ryan Reynolds and Blake lively who are seated four rows in front of us. read more

With her infectious personality, relatable tales about the daily struggles of living in the city, & raw renditions of songs both popular & obscure, Eva put on a captivating show . I'd be remiss if I didn't applaud the four-piece band behind her, including talents who had also worked on "Hadestown." This is my first time at this theater. First time hearing the name of this theater as well as the name of the street. Located in a small alley in the heart of the village this theater is small and very quaint. Every seat is a good seat. Came to see Good Enemy. The stage set-up was simple and bare however excellent story line and the cast's performance was dramatic, intense and powerful. Very entertaining all around and looking forward to seeing more shows from these actors. read more

Located in the heart of the Village, the Minetta Lane Theatre usually presents little gems of theatrical experiences. The theatre is located near other gems like the Blue Note and IFC. The theatre is small but surprisingly the seating is quite comfortable; and wherever you sit you can take in the production. What is also surprising is the restrooms are accommodating: the women's room is as big as the restrooms in bigger theaters housed in Times Square. The establishment is professionally run and the staff is extremely courteous. After taking in a play one can dine at iconic restaurants such as Minetta Tavern or newer ones like Pommes Frites. There is a small park, Minetta Greens, which is probably lovely to sit at in warmer weather. I am surprised that this was the first play I saw at this theatre and it won't be my last. read more

A friend and I saw the off-Broadway musical "Red Roses and Green Gold" at Minetta Lane Theater on Valentine's Day 2018. Minetta Lane theater is fairly cozy and personal, honestly it does not matter where you are seated, the view of the stage will be great. We were fortunate to be seated three rows from the stage. The chairs were comfy, good to know if you'll be watching a play for 2 plus hours. I must add the air circulation in the theater was considerably reasonable. During intermission, do visit their mini bar which is on the pricey side, but worth it if you want to satisfy your thirst. I'm not a fan of the facility cause it was located in the basement level, but I liked how it was well maintained. Overall, Minetta Lane theater is lovely and I would definitely go again to see a show. read more

Minetta Lane Theater is tucked away in the West village, putting on off beat plays, one person shows and the whole gamut of theater and performance. I've been here to see several one man shows including Collin Quinn's latest stand up shows. The theater itself is small, barely clocking in at 300 seats. Because of the small square footage, most seats are about the size of an economy airplane seat, packed in one on top of the next. Otherwise the theater is just like many other small to midsize play houses across the city - simple hallways and no ornate dressings on the walls or floors. One of my favorite NY off Broadway theaters. There's not a bad seat in this intimate house. It's in the heart of the west village on a cute little side street. Staff is always friendly & accommodating. I had a foot injury and was wearing a boot & someone immediately let me know I didn't need to go to the downstairs bathroom, I could use the accessible one on the main floor. About 10 minutes before curtain a guy in front of me was searching on the floor for one of the lenses for his glasses. Someone on the staff noticed us searching around and conducted a quick search near him...and then circled outward and found it quite a distance await. Kudos! Celebration! The theatre before the theatre. Go see Red State Blue State before it closes sometime in March 2019. It tries to be bi-partisan, though if you lean right, you may not dig it. read more

My friend and I saw "Sakina's Restaurant" at this theater. The play was amazing! It was a one-man show. The actor amazingly took on the role of 4 or 5 different characters, and he did it exceptionally well. It speaks on the immigrant experience. Even though it focuses on an Indian family, it touches on several universal themes and experiences that anyone with an immigrant background would relate to. I highly recommend this play! This theater has an orchestra and a mezzanine, and it seems like they show only one show at a time. Even though the theater is a bit small, the seats are comfortable and you get a good view of the stage no matter where you're sitting. The acoustics are great! So, you don't have to crane your neck to hear the actors. It is quite a charming spot with a clear downtown vibe. Minetta Lane Theatre is a convenient location, just a block or 2 from the train station. To add to its charm, Minetta Lane Theatre is on a cute side street, but the large show sign makes it easy to find. read more

Original home of Jason Robert Brown's "The Last Five Years" - so I am destined to forever be enamored with this place. It's got an appealing "downtown vibe" to counteract the traditional theater-going experience. The venue is well-kept, though the seats aren't particularly comfortable. It's also surrounded by endless spots for a post-show drink, bite to eat, or dessert. So that's a huge plus. read more

Just finished watching Carey Mulligan's astounding solo performance in Girls and Boys at Minetta Lane, which is a darling venue just stepping stones away from West 4th station. The space is intimate as in a little tight but it's part of the charm to this place. The closest thing I can think of to describe it is as if you were invited to a venue in the Hobbit world. I was in row D just slightly to the left of the stage and yes my neck did get cramped. In all honesty, though it wasn't a big deal because you're so close to the Ms. Mulligan as she effortlessly grabs your attention for 2 hours. If you're reading this and it's not yet July 15, 2018, do yourself a favor and go see this one act Broadway play. You won't regret it. read more

Intimate and cozy place with a decent view of the stage from either the floor seats or the balcony area.Small cencessions area and nice staff. Actually a good sized stage for the space with a decent sound/lighting system. Seating was ok but can be a bit cramped. It's not just Minetta Tavern (http://www.yelp.com/biz/minetta-tavern-new-york) that gets top billing on Minetta Lane, one of the better Off Broadway venues is also here and is aply named the Minetta Lane Theatre. A small theater by the gargantuan Broadway standards, this place seats just 399 folks. This basically means there really isn't a bad seat in the house and the acoustics are just perfect for an intimate performance. If there was a great seat I could think of, it would most definitely be the balcony, certainly among the nicest I've seen for a theater this size. And with all the great options in the West Village, it is sometimes nice to take a break from the touristy hooplah of Midtown. The quality of the shows they bring in here are top notch, just keep an eye out for the next best thing as they feature new stuff more often than not. Now all that is missing, is a dedicated website. Playbill and Ticketmaster can get taxing on these eyes. read more

I've seen 2 shows so far at the Minetta Lane Theatre that have stuck and will stick with me for a while, I think thats a very good thing :) Recently I went to see the Flying Karamazov Brothers on Yelp night - thank you Yelp and thank you Minetta Lane. Free tickets enticed me to purchase $6 cans of Amstel Light that you can bring into the theatre! I mean, if the option is there you have to take advantage right? Its not everyday you get to bring any food or drinks into a theatre unless its Rock of Ages.. oh wait that was a Yelp event too! Anyway, the show was fun. Super tight amazing juggling, jokes, interactive, physical humor, danger factor, music, "dancing" - a variety pack of spectacle. And the performers were in the lobby after the show eager to say hi, tell you about juggling, and return high fives. My other experience @ Minetta Lane was seeing one of the most amazing pieces of theatre I've ever laid my eyes and ears on - The Adding Machine. Oh wow. I wish I had seen it a million more times, expertly directed, designed, adapted, and acted. Completely different vibe than FKB. The seats are a little squishy in the leg room department, and depending on the set you may have a little trouble seeing if you sit in the front row. An awesome place to produce a play, intimate but holds quite a few people including the balcony (that nobody sat in both times I was there.) Nice large bathrooms downstairs, concessions, decent lobby size, and great dining and drink options nearby. read more

Minetta Lane Theater is an intimate Off-Broadway theater. If you do plan to buy tickets, just about every seat in the house is good, even if you're stacked in the back of the orchestra. Perhaps seats in the balcony might not be great, but you really won't miss any of the action on stage. Overall, it's an okay place to see a show. It's not a fancy place, and certainly a face-life would be much appreciated. However, I do see the occasional gem here, so it's always worth keeping an eye out for productions at the Minetta Lane Theater. INSIDER'S TIP: Many shows here eventually offer discount codes through different Broadway ticket websites. Amazing little theater! I came here and sat all the way in the back, nearly the last row and the best thing is that you get a great view regardless! The acoustics in the place were impeccable and you really get to see all the details you would normally miss in a giant broadway theater. The show we saw relied heavily on special lighting for set changes and I absolutely loved it - it's environmentally friendly and really did so much to change each scene with little work. The theater is an easy subway ride from Penn Station, the train leaves you literally a block away. I actually came up from Trenton, NJ, and made it in 1 hr 38 mins flat to catch an 8 pm show! It was a pleasant surprise to see how easy it was to get to a show mid-week. I really like the area too, there are plenty of bars and restaurants to get something to eat before or after the show too. Went to box office on Tuesday to see the Half Life of Marie Curie. At the window I asked for one ticket for the less expensive seat, which I knew to be $43 (plus $2 fee). The woman at the box office said that all the $45 seats were sold out. I said okay, and asked for a ticket for tomorrow night, Wednesday. She immediately replied that all the $45 tickets were sold out. For tomorrow? I repeated. I thought it odd that she would know about tomorrow's seats without apparently taking the time to check the computer. Trusting in her statement, I relented, took a hit to my budget and purchased the more expensive seat of $79 for Tuesday's performance. The following afternoon, Wednesday, just out of curiosity, I checked the website and sure enough - there was a $45 ticket for sale. I don't know why someone would lie, or what benefit the person wd get out of it. It's just sad and leaves a bitter memory. This theater gives you the sense of grandeur and big theater seating you expect from an NYC performance, but on a more intimate level. I prefer mezzanine seating at events to get a view of all the staging and choreography, but as a shorter person that frequently leaves me behind the world's tallest man blocking my view. Fortunately in this theater, the stadium seating is staggered enough to give a clear view to everyone. The space is beautiful and filled with vintage charm. Grab a cocktail at intermission and sit on one of the petite couches to feel like you're in a swanky Gatsby party. **Note, if you have a chance to see Company XIV perform here (Nutcracker Rouge, Cinderella or Snow White) DO IT! Ballet meets burlesque in a beautiful, funny, exotic performance. Not necessarily about the theater, but I believe this is the one place they perform. Restrooms are on the lowest level. Ladies - it's only 4 stalls, so prepare to wait a few minutes or get online fast. read more

Typical tiny off broadway nyc theatre with cramped seating, small stage, and scray subterranean bathrooms. We went here to see The Adding Machine (good, but kind of over-hyped) and enjoyed it. I had no idea where Minetta Lane was (nor did the cab driver) before going to this theatre, but what a charming location on a tiny, *quiet*, sidestreet off MacDougal. The staff is extremely friendly (not uppity theatre people) and helpful. Concessions are very limited to bottle beer, tiny plastic cups of wine, or swedish fish and plain m&ms. At least its something. And best of all, before or after seeing the show, you can easily grab dinner/drinks at one of the numerous restaruants/bars in the neighborhood. My only complaint is that at least for this production, the starting value of the tickets was more than I was expecting. I thought that given the size and intimacy of the space, they would be considerably cheaper than something you can find on broadway. read more

First of all we paid full price for tickets to a show and then when we got to the show found that half the theater got tickets for free days after we bought our full price tickets. When I saw there were half priced tickets shortly after we bought them, I didn't even have a box office to call to ask for some kind of something back. Ticketmaster is satan and couldn't help me either. When We got to the show, I was let down again when this shithole didn't even have a coat check in 10 degree weather. My friend and I arrived a bit late, but they knew how to take care of us. I thought size of the theater itself was quite cozy and intimate, but hey, I'm used to extremely small theater in my SF theater world. The location was great. A last minute invitation brought me to Minetta Lane for The Garden of Earthly Delights a Dance performance based on the triptych painting. The performance brought me back to my days at Bard College-I only wish I had a mind altering experience to complete that aspect of the experience. My friend and I were two of 5 people in the audience under the age of 50 which may explain why everyone thought it was so hot-it was a tad warm but perhaps the nude body stockings the performers wore was to blame? I was here for the Flying Kamarazov Brothers - 4Play which I thought was entertaining in the most corny and slapstick manner but nevertheless a tad more edgy than the Ringling Brothers! The theatre itself is tucked in Minetta Lane... a little obscure and not to be confused with Minetta St. The obscurity of the theatre is evident by the fact that on my way there, I actually ended up directing 2 college kids who were lost on Bleecker and 6th to the actual location. The theatre itself is nothing to rave about but I reckon my rating has something to do with the performance I attended (which if the tickets didn't come our way, we would most probably not have caught it). The box office lady was most helpful. Despite our names not appearing on the will call list, she proceeded to hand us our comp-ed tickets (no diff considering the show was not a full-house) but the gesture was indeed appreciated. read more
