!!!!!!!!!!! I took my dad's 2011 Ford F-150 to Performance Care Car in Knightdale for a diagnostic. After keeping the truck for several days, they told us the engine was blown, had no compression, and needed to be replaced for over $9,000. That diagnosis was completely wrong. We took the truck to another mechanic for a second opinion and were told the issue was too much fuel at the spark plugs and that it only needed a basic tune-up. No blown engine. No compression loss. No $9,000 repair. Either this shop is incapable of properly diagnosing vehicles, or they were willing to recommend an unnecessary engine replacement. Either way, this is unacceptable. If we hadn't gotten a second opinion, we could have been talked into wasting thousands of dollars. Do not rely on this shop for major diagnostics without verifying elsewhere. read more

I went in for a diagnostic and was quoted $3,000 for brakes, rotors, calipers, a brake fluid flush, and a few other items. They claimed my front brakes needed replacing and recommended new rotors and calipers soon, but when I decided to check and replace them myself, everything looked perfectly fine. They also said the rear brakes needed replacement and suggested new rotors there too. The left backside pads still had at least half their life left, and while the rotors were slightly glazed, they were still in good condition. The only brakes that actually needed work were on the rear driver's side, and even then, only the pads needed replacing while the rotor looks like it may need to be replaced soon. Everything else they recommended was completely unnecessary. It is unbelievable they tried to charge that much for work that did not need to be done. read more

The quality has drop since change of staff in recent years. I recently had work done twice and got my car back with dirt all on car mats and white dust on my seats. I'm unsure if it was chemical or just dirt from the tech being out in shop. I had to scrub inside to get it off. Notified the manager and he act like he could care less since he had already got paid. Most recently requested an oil change and they do not include checking the battery. This is typically part of the multipoint inspection. I do not recommend coming here at all. read more

This is a long story about my woes.Brought my truck in for a check engine light and a leak. Did not have an appointment but by 10 am was told what needed to be done. Very efficient. Called back at 2 pm to learn they were waiting for a part. At 4:15 they called to tell me the part was defective and the vehicle had to be left overnight. Yes this was a bummer as I had to rent a car for $50 to get home and take care of commitments. At least they were watching out for me. Picked the truck up the next night and after driving three miles the check engine light was back on. So the next day brought it in, mentioned I need to get to work and was going to the rental agency nearby. Another $50. When I called to check on the car I mentioned how much this was costing and was told I should have asked for a loaner car. Wonder why they did not tell me they had one. The problem was they did not connect one of the vacuum hoses. Thus, the reason for an average review versus excellent. I will go back at least one more time to see how things go read more

Took my service truck in for a check engine light. Was told by performance that I needed 4 catalytic convertors. $1,500 later the check engine light is back on. This time it's the 02 sensor. Had to keep returning to get light out and change to different brands of 02 sensors. Returned again and told by Daniel I needed to make an appointment. They might be good at oil changed and wiper blades but not technical issues. Also have rotated tires without balancing because they don't have a machine. read more

I drive a 2001 Lexus RX300 with 145k miles on it. I first went in there to check out my serpentine belts because they had started to squeal (and oil change). They saw I had a light out also, so I authorized that repair as well. I called first because it was a Friday and really urgent because I had to drive 350 miles later that afternoon and didn't want to risk the serpentine belts snapping on the road. A young woman answered the phone and told me to bring it on in, they'll take care of it. I dropped it off at 11am. At noon, she had a full quote for me for all the services after the mechanics checked out my SUV. Both serpentine belts needed replaced, a brake light was out, and my oil change. I'm expecting a pretty serious repair bill... but she quoted me under $150, including tax. I picked up my SUV by 1pm. Phenomenal service. Quick, inexpensive, and FULL service shop. You need it done, they do it. Since I had such a great experience with them the first time, I knew where I was taking my SUV for the next time it needed service. I requested an appointment a few days in advance on their website, received a confirmation about an hour later. I need an oil change again, and my brakes checked out. After I made the appointment for brakes and oil change though, I saw they offer 30k/60k/90k routine maintenance packages. My poor 145k mile SUV really needs that - check spark plugs, all that good stuff. So I emailed Perry Reynolds (the owner, I guess - he confirmed my appointment via email) and explained that my SUV needs it's regular scheduled maintenance done (or at least looked at) and asked what they do for a high-mileage vehicle like mine. He replied back pretty quickly, very personal answer - not a generic response. I could really tell he knew a lot of about cars, and seemed very genuine about taking care of his customer's needs. After the email, the same young lady called me to confirm my appointment, let me know that Perry had replied back to me, but just wanted to get some more details and answer any questions about the services. Fantastic customer service, which is really important to me, because as a female, I worry about getting taken advantage of when dealing with mechanic shops. I know a little bit about cars (well, I know about MY car), but there's still that air of caution when I deal with mechanics. Having another female presence really put me at ease and made me more comfortable dealing with them. Overall, I wouldn't take my vehicle to another shop unless Performance Car Care Center was closed or out of business (and I hope that never happens). I recommend them to my neighbors all the time, especially my single female neighbors. The personal attention to every customer and every car is great, the price is super affordable, and the quality is unbeatable. Save time and skip the fancy dealerships! Knightdale has one of the best kept secrets to quality car service. I took my vehicle to my dealership twice and not once did a mechanic even chat with me. The front desk assistants were confused and unsure how to articulate solutions. I took my car right back to a place I've been going off and on for years. Performance Auto in Knightdale never fails. They take the time to explain every detail. The owner talks to you/breaks it all down/and helps you navigate through cost effective solutions. They never put pressure on you to get extra things fixed and best,they simply care. I like the customer service from the phone interactions to the informative info in the waiting area. Nothing special... They had an opportunity to shine...instead, they're just like any other repair shop. Don't expect anything above and beyond. I spent hundreds of dollars for routine services; they wouldn't even check my tire pressure or rotate them without charging me. They think having a pretty girl taking your money is all it takes to stand out among other shops. I won't return...unless it's convenient for me. I won't go out of my way to return. I always look for the best in people and companies. Sometimes mistakes are made. It's true. But this one one was life threatening. They didnt tighten down the bolts on my brake caliper after a front end job and it began to come loose from my rotor while driving down the road. This could have caused my brakes to fail and cause serious injuries to me or others on the road. After bringing this to their attention and them fixing the problem I received no apologies or acknowledgment of their mistake. I was simply handed the keys with no explanation of what they did. Brought car in because of vibration between 60 -70 mph. Informed them that I thought it was the tire balancing but that I would leave it up to them to check out. They told me that it needed a front wheel bearing, drive axle and wheel alignment. I ok'd the repair at a much higher than expected expense than I wished for. None the less, received the car only to have it still doing the same thing. I questioned whether the car had been test driven at all. This time I'm told that the tires needed to be rotated and balanced. Wow! After spending all the money on the drive axle, wheel bearing and wheel alignment just to be told that it needed what I suspected in the first place, which would have been significantly cheaper to repair. Needless to say that I was not happy especially when they were going to charge me for the latter cost as well. After respectfully stating my case to the management they agreed and did not charge me for the rotation and balancing. The car IS older and May Have needed the wheel bearing, drive axle and wheel alignment but who's to say now, I'll never know. I will probably continue to do business with them just because the customer service was great! read more

They don't disclose the full cost of repairs very well. We took our van in because of a check engine light and code indicating a vacuum seal problem. Two days later the check engine light was back on, they claimed it was an unrelated issue. Took the van to the Kia dealer and they found oil all over the engine leaking from the gasket seal Performance Car Care supposedly replaced. Kia could not tell that anything had been replaced. Additionally Performance broke a part, potentially worn but did not provide the broken part for inspection, a common practice among repair centers now. Performance would not take responsibility for their shotty work and wanted additional diagnostic fees to look into a problem according to other mechanics they likely created. Now we bare the expense of fixing their "fix". Never again. Avoid. read more
