The other one had gotten fungus gnats, so they re-potted it. They not only sell plants, but help nurse any plants you have back to health. They don't just have plants and supplies in their shop, they have lots of other non-plant items that are great as gifts. I also purchased a journal from them. Yes, I'm taking the time to write this because today I'm not interested in "letting it go", it's healthy to speak your mind sometimes. I usually love this store, great candles and gift wrapping, however, today I was stopping in to grab a birthday card for my husband's 40th and was thrown a little attitude. I was told there was a sale and even though I knew there wasn't anything to get my husband there, I shopped around and found something small because I like to support my local businesses, especially Paulina, who was in the back. The lady helping me was ringing me up and I asked her if she would wrap my gift in a box instead of a bag. She did, but she said nothing while doing it, didn't put a ribbon around it and went to put the box back in the bag. I was kind of confused because usually this store wraps and you can choose or purchase wrapping and clearly she was putting my gift in tissue paper and a bag, but she was acting like she didn't want to wrap my gift. So I asked for a ribbon around the box and a tag instead of a bag. Paulina then comes out and asks her employee if she "can help her with anything", as if I'm being difficult...trust me, I know retail language. I said hello to her and she wasn't that friendly. Now again, I have no clue what the problem is, but I'm getting all this attitude over a paper box and a ribbon, instead of a paper bag, to which I articulate after this lady didn't even tie a bow, just a knot with the ribbon, so I asked her for an extra piece of ribbon to tie a bow, cause it looked like shit! Lol! She then told me that they don't wrap sale items (the whole store is on sale) and the wrapping products are very expensive. I said, "well you could've told me that this was your policy BEFORE as I was asking and spared me the attitude". Come on ladies! Presents should look beautiful even in a simple paper box and a thin bow tied ribbon, let's be generous, lol. I've worked in retail and always wrapped. I've done the inventory orders and know the costs. If people, like myself today, don't see the listed policy, it doesn't hurt to remind them. No need to be passive aggressive and rude. Here's a tip, you can charge for wrapping if it's THAT much of an issue. I didn't feel good leaving the store. I like to give gifts on good vibrations. I almost went back for a measly refund based on that principle but clearly this place needs the pennies if they're trying to save on wrapping. read more

Pergolina is an amazing little gift shop in the heart of Toluca Lake. You can always find unique and interesting gifts, from cards, vases, jewelry, soaps and one of kind trinkets that you wont find anywhere else. He would not go away or leave us alone did not get the hint at all. This man complained about multiple staff members to us also mentioned several very well known designers by name as being hard to work with (in his view)despite us showing zero interest in hearing it as some of these people are friends and industry peers of mine, it felt so unprofessional and indiscreet. There was a young girl working in there who must have been so awkward, she seemed friendly and polite would rather have talked to her. My client asked me if we could just leave and said she didnt want to buy anything from a place like this with such little respect for their clientele and represented artists. She is a collector and loves discovering new artists but was very upset at the lack of respect. If i sold through them I would be P*SSED at the way they talked about me as well as the buyers of my work, I have lived in NY for 20 years and never once had such a bad feeling about someone in my industry. Horrible man horrible day and I will never purchase for clients from here ever again and will advise others to do the same. What a way to run a business, great job guys
