If you drew the short straw on needing a gum graft, I highly recommend Dr. Patrick. Look, a gum…read more graft sucks all the way around, but if you need it you might as well go to a surgeon you'll actually like. He's basically a personal hero of mine, which I'll get to shortly. His staff is super sweet and nobody laughed at me when I delayed my surgery to go the the New Kids/Paula Abdul/ Boyz II Men concert even though I was practically asking for it. I opted not to learn anything about how a gum graft works prior to the surgery because it is one of few topics that makes me queasy. I told myself it was probably done with lasers and advanced NASA-style technology for maximum efficiency, and that I could return to work in two days. It's not, and I didn't. It's actually a somewhat barbaric procedure that kept me home for 5 days - not just due to pain and soreness. I didn't want to subject anyone to my cat breath caused by necrotic tissue slowly sloughing away from the wounds. So keep that in mind when planning your recovery. They also say no vigorous exercising for 3 days, and this makes me LOL because you aren't eating anything and you have no energy for even moderate exercise. I read like 6 novels and watched the entire 3rd season of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt while recovering because all I could do was sit around feeling like Bane in the Batman movies. The surgery itself wasn't so bad, mainly because Dr. Patrick and his assistant kept the upbeat chatter going the whole time, which distracted me from visualizing the procedure. Otherwise I would have peed myself. Post op, I won't lie to you, is a painful, disgusting process. You'll grow tired of the few foods you can eat including nondairy ice cream, you can't brush or floss the area or even look at it. DON'T LOOK AT THE GRAFT. Don't even google it. Ignorance is bliss on this one. The mouth guard and the putty they give you will be your best friends for 4 or 5 days. Dr. Patrick will prescribe painkiller and antibiotics just in case but I didn't need them. I only took Advil and I was fine. He also gives out his cell phone number if you have questions, and you're gonna want to keep that number handy. But this part is important and also hilarious. While gingerly brushing my non-affected teeth about 24 hours after the surgery, a piece of dental sponge that CLOSELY resembled mouth tissue fell into the sink while I sort of drooled out the toothpaste (cuz no spitting). I lost consciousness. Twice. I am not exaggerating, I thought the graft came out and I was going to have to do it all over again, and there went my vision and hearing. When I came to, I was drenched in sweat and my husband was asking why I was suddenly unresponsive and green from head to toe. And HERE is where Dr. Patrick is basically a hero of mine. We called him at 9 PM on his cell phone and he answered and he talked us through what I was certain was a dental crisis. He assured me that I was fine and told me, "No matter what, Jody, you are going to be okay." Dead serious, I wish we had his number on election night because maybe I wouldn't have woken up the next morning with swollen eyes and a crippling sense of global doom. Even my husband commented on Dr. Patrick's bedside manner, which you don't think matters until it absolutely does. We all three laughed at me while I remained flat on my back trying to will away the nausea, but I slept like a baby that night. So if you've been putting this surgery off like I did for 7 years, just know that people live through it and Dr. Patrick answers his phone.

BEWARE -- get a preauthorized estimate or go elsewhere. I…read morewas quoted $590 for my procedure and paid it upfront. After the work was done, they hit me with an additional $640 that insurance didn't cover. This office works with dental insurance every day -- so how is it that they didn't know their own procedure wouldn't be covered? It feels misleading and careless. I will not be going back. Find a provider who actually understands how insurance works and gives you accurate information before you're stuck with surprise charges.

I had two implant surgeries at their practice last year. I have no complaints about the surgeries themselves, Dr. Dodge's bedside manner is great and he treats his assistants in a polite manner. However, the office is very disorganized. I had an appointment to pick something up, but when I arrived, I was told it wasn't ready. On another occasion, I came in for a suture removal appointment and asked a simple medical question, only to be told to come back another day because Dr. Dodge was not in the office that day. There were other appointments like that which made me feel like my time was not respected. They are getting paid while I'm there; my full time job doesn't pay me to be there. Additionally, I paid $550 for a flipper that I never received. I asked for it on at least three separate occasions, but my requests were denied. Following the advice of credit card companies, I tried to work with their office to get a refund for the service that was never provided, but my concerns were dismissed. Due to their delays, I missed the 60-day window to open a credit card dispute, and now it's been over 118 days and Chase told me that for legal reasons there was absolutely nothing they could do about it after this period of time. Lesson learned.
