I haven't been to the Fargo, ND, Perkins in forever. Today I decided to stop in for a late lunch and to kill some time before school pick up for my Granddaughter. I'm so glad that I did. It was neither crowded or busy, but it was just after 1pm when I arrived. I sat myself as I didn't immediately see anyone. within minutes I had a waitress at my table offering me a menu and asking what fluids she could bring me. She immediately grabbed my water and soda and advised me that another waitress would be returning for my order and serving me. Within ten minutes I had my order in for a BLT and chicken noodle soup. Both arrived in no time and were delicious. I enjoyed the chicken noodle soup so much that I ordered a second bowl. I had a chance to speak with the Manager and learned that some of the day staff have been working over 30 years for Perkins. Honestly, their service spoke volumes of their experience. Placed an order via DoorDash online from Texas... yes, I know odd, but nothing beats Moms & Apple Pie, for Mother's Day, right? When an issue arose with the impatient Dasher, I contacted the restaurant and spoke with Cheryl. Cheryl went above and beyond to accommodate for the slightest delay in getting the package handed over to the most impatient Dasher. She even called me back after completing the order to offer apologies - I've worked in service for many years and understand uncontrollable issues and I was not going to take advantage of this, though I know people that would. In the end, know that Cheryl's customer service is A#1 and she should be commended, hands down ... Cheryl is a true asset to Perkins, and thank YOU for a wonderful experience. I just ordered a BYOB with pancakes, bacon, sausage, cheesy eggs, and cheesy hash browns. What was delivered was some sort of peppers ham egg wrap and crossaunt chicken strip cheese sandwich. My mother and I stopped by for breakfast the other day and I saw the pumpkin pancake card with yummy looking pancakes. What I got was a plate of splattered looking pancakes, not soft and round like the picture. They were dry, they were thin, they tasted awful. Today I stopped in for a quick bite to eat. Miranda, was the one who waited on me today. She was super nice and very pleasant. I decided to order of the lunch duo menu so I tried the ham melt with tomato basil soup. YUM!!!!! Now mind you it was only a half sandwich and a small bowl. I don't think I could of eaten a full sandwich and soup as for I'm stuffed. The texture of my ham melt with the different flavors was pure taste bud heaven. With the golden brown bread, the gooey cheese and cooked ham slice.....and the basil soup perfection just the right spices, creamy I added parmigiano cheese to my soup, who could resist I had to dip my sandwich in the soup. The food was alright and the ambiance at this location hasn't changed in my whole life. I can even see the exact booth where my grandfather took me to lunch. This place has amazing strawberry shortcake/cheesecake pies when in season. This is also a late-night (24-7) hangout for the high school kids, so avoid if you don't appreciate the noise. Sorry to compare it with iHop, but this place is better than the franchise version. Worth a try. If you are close to it - it is way better than the hotel breakfast version. Server was great! His name was Brandon and was sat tables nonstop even though he was visibly sweating and running everywhere... might be time to get some more staff. Our food took OVER an hour after ordering it to come and we had two toddlers with us. When we left we mentioned how our food took forever to come and the lady up front laughed and rolled her eyes and goes "oh really. So it took this long after your food went in to come?" Unbelievably horrible customer service but the food was good and Brandon worked his ass off and did as best as he could with the shitty situation he was put in. The table next to us goes "jeez you guys have been here for a LONG time, I can't believe how well your kids are behaved, maybe we should cancel our order if it's going to take that long". You guys, this place needs help. The ladies bathroom has two stalls. The toilet paper is being held on by about 1,000 pieces of scotch tape. The soap dispenser is broken and they refill it by keeping the entire "dawn dishsoap" bottle upside down constantly refilling the broken soap dispenser.....??? Stunk like old urine in there. We were in town for a concert. The concert had ended. I was 6 months pregnant and starving. I've never been a huge fan of Perkins food (or their prices), but it was late at night and they were the first place we saw that was open. We went inside to find the place PACKED with fellow concert goers, and the lobby was full as well. A very nice couple moved so my husband and I could sit down on the bench. During the TWENTY MINUTES that we waited in the lobby NO ONE came out to talk to any of the customers waiting to be seated. We left and went to Denny's where it was just as packed, but we were seated quickly and given good customer service. Okay, I can understand them not being prepared for the concert to let out. After a long 13 hour drive, Perkins was one of the only open and familiar names in the sub-zero town of Bismarck, ND. If you've ever been to a Perkins then you know what to expect.
