We travel a lot and enjoy a good diner meal. I was intrigued to try Kroll's because of their stuffed cabbage and my husband was looking forward to liver and onions. We were "greeted" by a man that didn't speak, he held up his fingers and led us to a booth, I know he did have a voice because later on he huffed a helium balloon and was speaking with co-workers. My husband decided he wanted a milkshake until we looked over and observed the absolutely filthy machine. I thought surely something had happened causing the explosive mess and someone would come and clean it off, NO, they just kept using it as it was, I could barely order food wondering what the kitchen looked like. Then our waitress showed up, her work shirt was so absolutely filthy that I couldn't believe she was serving food. We honestly should have left at that point but we were hungry and not from the area so we went for it (no milkshake though, so gross) - food was ok, so covered in gravy and sauce it really was pretty tasteless, so disappointed in a place that I'm sure was once outstanding and now not so much. Do they have a restaurant inspector in Fargo? If so, they might want to make a visit soon read more

Cute place, nice staff, good food. Seated quickly and got our drinks quickly. Waitress was sweet and friendly but didn't offer refills. I wanted something different, so got the cabbage rolls with vegetable and mashed potatoes. Not sure waitress knew the actual options for that because she asked if I wanted brown gravy on my mashed potatoes or the tomato sauce served on the cabbage rolls. I had opted for brown but got the red. The mashed potatoes were real potatoes, not fake, and were delicious. The cabbage rolls were a generous portion, but I thought the meat was a bit underseasoned, especially when compared to the mashed potatoes. The veg were plain unseasoned carrots- they weren't even hot and they stayed on the plate. Husband got the special, which was a "pork ribeye" with eggs, hashbrowns, and pancakes. The waitress asked how he wanted the meat cooked which I think confused herself, my husband, and the cook because I overheard her laughing stating that she "didn't know, she doesn't eat that type of meat." lol anyway, it was presented fully cooked and was very very good. It was well seasoned and had probably been brined. It was tender and good. The eggs were cooked correctly and the pancakes were yummy. Hashbrowns were standard shreds, probably from a bag. Neat little place! The German cuisine options were really neat and two entrees and a dessert didn't break our bank. Our server got the job done without hovering and it was honestly kind of fun to overhear the college aged employees talking and laughing and genuinely enjoying each other's company. Cute old fashioned diner. Walking in it looks straight out of back to the future. I was seated right away, next to the section that was closed off. Took a few mins to look at the menu and decided on a burger, fries and milkshake (save for after dinner and to go). Food came out pretty fast. Burger came with no condiments so I asked for mayonnaise. Forgot I was in the Midwest and what I got was miracle whip not mayo. I don't eat ketchup so on the miracle whip went to make my burger less dry. Other than the non mayo everything was good. Service was fast and accurate. read more

Our server quickly came to take our drink order and was so friendly. She definitely went above and beyond to take care of us! A few of us ordered breakfast and some ordered lunch. I chose the biscuits and gravy and the Polska kielbasa. Everything was so delicious! But I discovered, when looking at the menu, that they also offer German cuisine. It was between this place or perkins because nothing else was open, both open 24hrs. We were staying in fargo for the night and it was late when we got in. We had never been to or heard of Krolls so we said "why not!". It's a cute little 50's style diner with bright lights and booths for sitting. So we are already kinda weirded out. We look at the menu and had no idea it was German food. But hey you gotta try new things! They serve breakfast all night as well. I tried their "famous soup", Knoephla soup. No idea what it was but the menu said it was their famous dish so it's gotta be good. But hey, everyone has different taste buds and mine didn't like the soup. I had wished the soup was a thicker consistency, instead it was a water consistency. The taste just wasn't right either. Kroll a is one of the reasons I like coming to Fargo once in a while. This place is usually my breakfast spot before I fly home. Not only do I love the food, I also enjoy the friendly service. I always sit at the counter, and Krysta is one of the best diner waitresses I've had! Today I had pancakes and their homemade sausage patty's. Theses disks of meat are a must try! Just the right about of spice, slightly crIspy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Pancakes were great too! On another visit I ordered the country fried steak. This is a big tasty meal, but worth the sleepiness that comes with the full belly that you will leave with. They also have a local North Dakota delicacy called Knoephla Soup (which I learned that the "K" is silent. I was brought up in Wisconsin, were we pronounce the "K".... I looked it up, we were wrong) Anyway, the Soup is a German/Russian form of creamy dumpling soup. It's really good, especially on a cold day. read more

I'm not a local, but I've been here 4 times. Never once have I had a bad server, and all employees have been nothing but nice. Great service 4.5/5. Great diner atmosphere, and I love the exterior look. It really stands out. The food is amazing, and I would recommend any of their breakfast skillets, especially the biscuits and gravy, which to me were a 5/5. The chocolate malt is extremely rich and the best I've ever had, but make sure you have some water or milk nearby. The only complaint food wise is that the kneofla soup wasn't that good and the dough tastes like frozen dumpling dough. Other than that, nothing negative about this place. 4.5/5 read more

While visiting Fargo we were directed to Knoll's for great food. I had the garden omelette with Cajun seasoning. I wasn't much in the mood for breakfast but as a pescatarian, there weren't many options for me. It was good but not great. It would have been much better had they halved the amount of oil used. The pancake was great. My husband ordered the local favorites, Fleischkuechle and knoephla soup. I tried the knoephla and I was not impressed. The base is flavorful but still lacking and the dumplings are definitely not my thing. My husband, on the other hand, enjoyed it. He did not like the Fleischkuechle or the mashed potatoes at all. The worst mashed potatoes ever was a direct quote and the Fleischkuechle didn't even fit the description. What saved the entire meal was the service. Out waitress was amazing. read more

I spent one night in Fargo while traveling for the holiday's. I had time in the morning to sit and eat so instead of "an unknown," I decided on an "Old Standby." I have been to many a Kroll's location and this one was right up the road from my Hotel. It was pretty early so it wasn't really busy. I was greated and seated immediately. Coffee wasn't far behind and my cup never got low. I ordered Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs. Served with Hashbrowns and toast made this a pile of food. As is the norm at Kroll's, it was good food too. 1950s diner with 1950s hygiene. There are literally zero precautions taken for COVID. I felt very uncomfortable with the hygiene practices, so I ate as quickly as possible in order to leave Nobody wore masks, served bent down next to our table breathing on our water cups (which I quickly moved). No barriers between the booths (which had people coughing right behind me). Another customer at the bar area was sneezing repeatedly (and not into his elbow) near the utensil area, which the server then wrapped into napkins to give new customers. Then she touched a bunch of used menus, gave them to new customers and moved onto plating food. No gloves were seen anywhere. No menu cleaning. I'm going to get covid testing now. read more
