Went to Village Inn 3 times in the last week while staying at a nearby hotel. Breakfasts were great, but the service was exceptional! The last day I was there I was asking if they could do one of the eggs benedict with ham and one with avocado, and the server suggested I could also get crazy and have ham and avocado on BOTH! do not go here at 5pm on a weekday unless you have 2 hours to kill. they gave us our drinks as we were being seated. our server took our order and never saw her again until an hour and half later and by that time we were ready to leave without ever getting our food. A CLASSIC, frequently patronized spot by staff at my office in Moorhead. Rarely did you NOT find someone unable to resist their pies, and the rest of the menu always have pleased a crowd! I am surprised that this place gets reviewed poorly. It has always been a great place for me and my family to go out to eat. It's nothing too fancy, but it's somewhat akin to Perkins. However the service is always great and quick. I don't recall ever waiting too long, even when it's packed. The food itself is pretty decent. Nothing mind blowing but it's still good for the price and the time we wait for it. All in all this has been a favorite of mine for breakfast dates. I have been coming to this place for special events for the last couple years. The food was burnt and I found blueberry in my chocolate chip pancakes. It felt like there's was only 2 waiters for the whole restaurant, the servers forgot my hash browns and straws. The surroundings were very loud, there was a family that was talking really loudly. The food was great, the service was good. But the waitress did no know the food. I asked if the rice pilaf had any pasta or wheat products in it and she said no, just rice. Well, like most restaurant rice pilaf, this did, indeed have pasta in it. I cannot eat wheat products, so I had to toss half of my dinner. I've tried repeatedly to contact the manager to bring it to their attention. It's an important fact that they need to be aware of. The phone is constantly busy. A nice general family restaurant. clean, quiet.., moderate price; I especially like the half- price pecan and lemon merengue pie on Wednesda... I called ahead on the hours and phone answered immediately; I found the waitress efficient and nice to visit with a bit. Service....waiter had dirty clothes. He did not refill water the whole time. The Egg serving was small. The fruit was preripe in the yogurt granola. The wait was long. The turkey sausage was like leather. The huevos rancharos had hash browns like a cookie. The flour tortilla was dried out and broke apart. Tables were dirty. We were told 40 minutes until our table was ready. We went and sat in the car for 20 minutes because the lobby was full and it was cold outside. Went back in and they said they called our name and we didn't show so they moved us to the bottom of the list. When we told them it had only been 20 minutes, they said sorry, that's the way it works. Party of three. One egg and pancakes with extra butter, one eggs Benedict with extra hollandaise sauce, and one open-faced beef sandwich. Food arrives, no extra butter for the pancakes, my beef sandwich and French fries and one eggs Benedict minus the hash browns that come with but accompanied by an extra English muffin and the requested extra hollandaise. The server assumed that since my husband requested that the English muffin on the bottom of the eggs Benedict be buttered, that he didn't want the hash browns. She took away the extra English muffin and about 10 minutes later brought the hash browns. I had the beef sandwich. The menu description made it sound just like it would be a hot beef sandwich. Bread, beef, gravy and mashed potatoes. Nope, I got a couple of slices of beef on grilled bread with a dollop of brown gravy and French fries. The server came by once after taking our orders to ask if I wanted beef or turkey. She came by again to ask if I wanted mashed potatoes. By this point, she has been to our table 5 or 6 times. I had to ask for the extra butter, again. She brings it right out. It's about a teaspoon of butter in a little cup, not nearly enough for one pancake. The server proceeds to tell us that she spoke to the manager and the cook and everything has been taken care of. One would think that she meant that maybe something was deducted off the bill. Nope, don't really know what she meant by that statement. Our server was very friendly but she must have been new. As always the food was great and usually the waiters/waitresses' are awesome but not tonight. If you get Tanner plan to ask another waiter/waitress for re-fills on your drinks, you're empty dishes to pile up on your table and the extra topping you asked for when you ordered your meal is forgotten then your told they'll bring it out in a bit but it never appears. (that could be the cooks fault) I always leave a tip no matter what, however I'll leaving the minimum with service like this. read more

Just wanted a ham and cheese omelette, not toast or pancakes or anything else just the omelette please. "Sorry but we have to charge you for the hash browns and pancakes". Really??? Stay away. It's disgusting. The table smelled like musty mop water and my "music star" omelet resembled what was left of the Big Bopper after the plane crash. The only reason why I'm giving a 2 star review is the waitress we had. It wasn't even her section but after seeing us sit there for more than 10 minutes without anyone even taking our drink order she decided to help us. Even the manager walking around ignored us. Horrible service. We sat on the chairs, which are up against the booths on the entry area. And waited 20 minutes to be sat at the empty booth behind us. Our server didn't even talk to us until our food was brought to us, someone else ended up getting us drinks and ordered our food cause we had to stop someone after waiting for 15 minutes. e burnt coffee. We stopped in around 6pm for dinner, 2 adults and 2 kids. We were seated quickly in a comfortable booth near the window. We have eaten at several Village Inns before however it had been several months. Upon reviewing the menu we noticed that it looks like they have slimmed down their dinner selections which was disappointing. We ended up getting chicken finger dinners and both kids got Mac n Cheese. The food was OK, it came fairly quickly and was warm. The service on the other hand left a lot to be desired. We asked for additional sauce for our chicken right when it was delivered since they are skimpy on sauce quantity, the waitress never came back and checked on us until we were almost done and never brought the sauce, when we asked for it again she shrugged her shoulders with a "deal with it" attitude. She did eventually bring the sauce, but so much later we didn't finish our food. Now the reason people come here THE PIE! I would love to review the pie however they were "sold out" of every type of pie that we found interesting. Lastly the bathrooms were quite gross. The entire inside had been remodeled except somehow they forgot the bathrooms. Not only were they outdated and didn't match the decor of the restaurant but they were actually very dirty.
