I got the California Avocado Benedict and that was really good. They actually give you a whole avocado inside! There's also bacon as well. The fruit side is a bit lacking though. This spot was right across from our hotel and we decided to stop for breakfast before leaving town. I ordered the Big Country Skillet which has Pork sausage, Applewood smoked bacon, smoked ham, American cheese and cream gravy with two eggs served over smashed tots and there's not a lot to say. It was pretty much a generic breakfast that didn't taste good, but also didn't taste badly. I feel like Perkin's is sort of the answer to Bob Evan's in the East, except I tend to like Bob Evan's noticeably more. The service was decent and the staff was courteous and checked in regularly enough. If you're in the area, it'll fill the hole in your stomach, but don't expect anything special. This place appears to be the better option as there's an IHOP across the street, but the vast majority of reviews painted a horrid picture of that IHOP location so this may be the better option. read more

Took forever to get our food over 50 minutes. My daughter's order was wrong and food was cold. We asked for our bill right away and to go boxes since we were running late by that time. I ordered scrambled eggs and the cook just threw eggs on the griddle chopped them into pieces so small that you couldn't stab them with a fork. I can't recommend a restaurant that specializes in breakfast that has a cook that can't scramble eggs. My breakfast consisted of a waffle, 2 eggs and a sausage patty that I could see through. Our server walked by the table a dozen times and injected how sorry she was that she couldn't help because she was so busy. She also said that she was wondering what was going on in Sioux Falls because they had so many empty seats. I watched the table next to us get cleaned with the rag that was in the bin that had been carrying the refuse off the plates that the previous customers didn't eat. That explains the fruit punch rings that were on the table surface when we sat. After seeing that we stopped eating paid our bill and went to another restaurant. The tip amount started at 18% unless you choose custom amount. Nothing about my meal was tip worthy. I left a 10% tip because I respect myself, but it was not earned. read more

The waiter who took my to-go order was friendly, but I saw my order sitting on a back counter for quite some time before they let me know it was ready. I ordered pie, but it wasn't with my food. I called to ask if I could come back and pick it up, and they just never answered their phone, even though the restaurant is open for another 2 and a half hours. Food was also pretty disappointing as far as quality. I was pretty bummed, as I came here because the last time I went to a Perkins it was a really positive experience. Perkins always has some of the friendliest front-of-house staff in Sioux Falls. They are personable and seem perfectly willing to go out of their way for special requests. My 4 year old loves the creative menu items for kids: the French toast stack; the prickly bear pancakes; but her favorite, by far, is the rainbow pancakes. Here comes my sole complaint. Over the years, the adult portions have become smaller and smaller. My go-to dish at Perkins is a ham and cheese omelet. The omelet I received today was the smallest "3 egg omelet" I have ever been served anywhere. It wouldn't be so bad if the prices had remained unchanged over the years. As it is, I can go a competitor a mile down the street and for 50 cents more, have an omelet that is at least twice as big. Another reviewer got it right, "You know what you get when you go to Perkins". And knowing what you get will be a factor when we decide where to dine in the future. Thank you Perkins for your excellent service over the years. We'll continue to dine with you occasionally knowing we'll get what we get. I sincerely hope that I'll be surprised during a subsequent visit and find that your portion sizes are more in-line with your prices. read more

We asked for an extra plate, it was forgotten, we ordered pie, that too was forgotten, No water refills, no coffee refills. Not only was the service non existent, but the food was not even very tasty. We ordered a sampler plate with mozzarella sticks, which were hardly warm. The only thing semi-okay were the onion rings. Perkins is a typical "chain" Food is good, and service is good. One thing that sets it apart is the pancakes. They are the best anywhere.

I had an excellent omelette, with fresh fruit, and an English muffin for nine dollars. The service was excellent, the atmosphere is nice, clean, and the waitstaff is very attentive. They make their own baked goods, and have little mini muffins to sample before you buy the flak size ones. I had an apple cinnamon muffin and when I ate the top part it tasted like a snickerdoodle. I've been going to Perkins in various cities for 20 years, & we've always gotten our food before I finish my first cup of coffee. We waited 40 minutes after placing an order for two people at lunch, & our waitress never checked on us once. We finally had to leave as my husband had to be back to work. The hostess was very nice about it, but when my husband tried to speak to the manager, he was simply given the excuse they "have new cooks", & then, that they were busy (which, compared to when I've been to Perkins in Lincoln or Omaha, they weren't. Understaffed for lunch, but plenty of empty tables). My husband works at a hospital & this was the first time he had additional time at lunch so we could eat together in two years. We chose Perkins because we've never had problems before, even with long waits on Sunday morning. But the management of this particular restaurant is utterly incompetent. read more
