Been a hot minute since I've been to a Johnny Carino's. I think the last one I went to was in Fargo, and that location closed down a while ago. This location in Sioux Falls was packed thanks to Mother's Day. Fortunately, we got there just as the lunch rush was winding down. Unfortunately, that didn't help much. It took a while to get seated, and service was super slow -- like really slow. It seemed to take forever for someone to take our order and for the food to come out. The food itself was delicious. The baked mushrooms were good, and the garlic tilapia was amazing. However, the eggplant parm was on another level. Absolutely stole the show. Just a word of caution: the leftovers don't heat up particularly well, so bring a big appetite. Would definitely return if I'm back in the area and hoping the service is better next time. read more

Went here with a friend on a Wednesday evening. We were greeted right away by the waiter. The bread was warm, but the dipping mix was mostly just oil with a few pieces of garlic. I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs while my friend ordered the pepperoni pizza. I used to LOVE the meatball sliders they had a few years ago--and the meatballs tonight were nothing close to that. Very dense, all one texture, and didn't seem homemade (I could be wrong). The pizza had very thick crust and a lot of pepperoni, but little to no cheese. My husband and I enjoyed our evening at Johnny Carino's on a very busy pre-Christmas shopping night. The restaurant was full of families celebrating together so the ambience was a bit noisy, however, in spite of how full the restaurant was and all of the celebrating going on, we had excellent service and the food was above average for a chain restaurant. I normally love this restaurant but the last couple visits have been underwhelming. This time there were flies everywhere. They kept landing on us as we ate. I mentioned it to the manager and he said they were aware but they come in over night. I know for a fact there are ways to deal with a fly problem. Other restaurants within a block do not have the same issue. The food itself was a mixed bag. The cheese tortellini was good. The lasagna was not as good as in the past. It actually tasted like it was once frozen which is weird because I thought they make it fresh. We will try again but it is disappointing it seems to be going down hill. read more

Came here for lunch twice due to my stay at the attached hotel. The staff was very kind and accommodating for my requests and questions. The food was made and delivered quickly to my table and piping hot! The portions are generous and the food is tasty! There are a lot of choices on the numerous menus they provide even during lunch. The menu items range from traditional Italian offerings to more American with Italian influence. I would come back again if I were in the area or city in the future. Very good food and atmosphere. I know it is a chain but it did not feel that way. If you are in the area, look them up.

Finding the place was a little tricky if you're not familiar with the area. For whatever reason, maps direct you right past the parking lot entrance. We had to cross the overpass and bust-a-U-eee. There was plenty of parking when we got there. Nobody was wearing a mask here. Not even pretending to wear one. If this is important to you, the date is May 19, 2021, for reference. We were sat promptly in an empty room. We must've been the server's first tables of the shift. Eventually other tables poured in. The room was a little chilly and the tables were sticky. They weren't sticky from food, though. It was more like the finish of the table has been wearing down for a few years. The server was super polite and had great banter. I ordered the Italian margarita, frozen. It was amazing! The amaretto really gave it a different twist. I would definitely order it again. For dinner, I had the mussels appetizer, which was half price because of happy hour. Oh, and I got two dollars off my margarita because of happy hour. Our server brought out fresh bread with oil and garlic to dip. It was pretty good, but I wish it had herbs in it. I didn't even think to ask. They could probably accommodate that, but I'm not sure. I'll give the atmosphere two stars, but it is what it is. The service was excellent. I'd give her five stars. The stickiness of the table was so unpleasant, though. I have to knock him for that one. If you haven't gotten to Carino's and had Jess as a waiter or a get together host, you've done it wrong. Jess took very good care of my son and I when were late to a get together function. She went above and beyond to make sure we had a phenomenal experience. Carinos have been my top three favorite restaurant in Sioux Falls. We've been to Carino's several times on trips to Sioux Falls. Not just because it's located next door to our hotel, but because it's a wonderfully satisfying lunch choice. The dining area is large, the menu is diverse --with all the expected "Italian dishes" -- and there's a satisfying sense of "home" about the place. Kinda like "comfort food" that everyone can appreciate. The food is tasty, the service pleasant and the prices reasonable. We always leave satisfied. read more

As far as chain Italian goes, Johnny Carino's really is a memory for me as it always strikes me as comfort food. We snuck in during happy hour and were quickly seated. My wife didn't hesitate to order an Italian Margarita and was very impressed. Of course the bread and garlic olive oil was a big hit too while we waited for dinner. Why not try the local Italian place? That is what I told myself... It started off rough, their "system" was down and seating took ten minutes despite seeing empty tables and booths from the entryway. The place was crowded, a bit noisy (too many kiddos for my choice) and the table was a bit sticky... BUT the staff was great-- attentive, gave good local recommendations and listened to specific drink requests. The Tuscan Ribeye was great! The green beans were lackluster and the accompanied pasta side is yet to be determined. Overall, enjoyed my time and experience. Families around me seemed to also enjoy. Johnny carinos is not reliable with their food quailty, the service is below bare minimum for example me and a party of 16 made a reservation for 6 and confirmed 3 times for 6pm however when we arrived 10 minutes early for our reservation we had a wait time of over 1hr. the ambiance however would have been great if we all were not hungry and had a long wait time. do better read more

I have Celiac and everyone here was extremely helpful and understanding, from the host to our waiter Tanner. Both the food and customer service was amazing. I had the Chicken Marsala with gluten free pasta and it was excellent. One daughter got the children's meal was reasonably priced and delicious. My other daughter had Classic Cheese Ravioli and the Terimisu. If you are in Sioux Falls you should stop by; you won't regret it. read more

My husband ordered bow tie festival, same thing..hardly any pasta in the dish, a whole lot of sauce. Tiny piece of bread to dip into the olive oil. You need to give a small loaf, not 1/4 of the loaf, please. Because trying to flag down someone to refill coffees or ask for more bread was not happening. Our server was so polite. We were sat at a table that was never wiped. We were served our drinks after our bread was gone. Accidentally ordered 6 desserts after hitting Taproom41; Taproom was fantastic. Johnny's online menu said $2.75 per slice, *narrator* *it was not*, turned out to be $48.00. Tried 3 cheesecakes, chocolate, lemon, and tiramisu cake. The cheesecake was booty as it was the same piece with different toppings. The tiramisu was good but also gave me a buzz from the cognac. Amazing, simply amazing! Truly amazing..... Can I say amazing again? Had lemon roasted chicken with fettuccine, simply amazing, best have ever had though haven't had many. I was asked to call back about my review to work on making it up to me and found the same phone system as used 2 months ago. I was able to reach a manager though, but when trying to talk about the review, he stated that he knew nothing about Google or Yelp reviews and that was a separate entity not affiliated with Johnny Carinos and could not assist me further. I still believe my review was valid and would not recommend this place. It took 2 months to reply from the owner and when I tried to contact them at the number provided within 24 hours of the reply, it was still a waste of time. Hopefully a nice mom and pop Italian restaurant opens in Sioux Falls, I'm sure the food and service will exceed that provided by this place. Maybe try Fazolli's near the mall, the staff is nicer and the food is at least as good. I'm guessing they would be happy to accommodate a group of 10 or more. read more

Was visiting family and we decided to find a nice place to eat. Decided on Johnny Carino's. I called them and tried to make a reservation for a party of 8, but they said that they only made reservations for parties of 10 or more. I figured that since it was early on during the evening and on a weekday, so it probably wouldn't be a problem. We didn't all arrive at the same time, so I grabbed a few menus and we sat outside while waiting for the rest of our party. While we were waiting, the manager (Jose), came out and welcomed us, and made himself available if we had any questions. That was nice. The inside of the restaurant was very nice, clean, and decorated. Our server, Stella, was amazing. She has a welcoming personality, and her positive attitude and wonderful sense of humor was contagious and set a great mood! Myself, being in the service industry as well, was really impressed with her people as well as server skills. She spoke clearly and and at the right volume that was appropriate for my older relatives. Stella did a great job at explaining the dishes as well as recommending suggestions. I was REALLY impressed with the fact that she didn't have to write things down for a picky party of 8, and she repeated each order at the end just to make sure. I could never do that. I would highly recommend the baked mussels. The sauce that they came in was utterly delectable! Since they gave complementary bread, had to order more to sop it up!
