Am very disappointed, very disappointed. An EPIC FAIL Came in at 5:30 today, Wednesday, and wanted to get the piggy back burger special. Lo and behold, they RAN OUT of pulled pork, this early? !?!?! If later in the day can very well understand but this early at dinner time that's just poor planning. As a result subtracted two stars. Not good. Not good at all. Restaurant is clean and crisp looking. Wait staff was friendly but my mood shifted when burger wasn't available. Then ordered a burger with pepper jack cheese. The bun dwarfed the burger. The meat patty was mediocre and only saving grace for the burger was the excellent pepper jack cheese, it was outstanding and could really taste it, so yummy, so yummy. The pickles were also good, but not too flavorful Another star was lost due to horrific french fries. They were hot out of the fryer but the taste wasn't worthy of what I'd call french fries, except for first one or two after finishing burger when still had pepper jack cheese taste in mouth. Should've savored that flavor little longer. Ate less than half the fries On a final finishing note for food, at least they had dessert I wanted, yet still wasn't good. Who could've thunk a star would be lost for dessert. The final straw was expected a warm cookie topped with scoop of ice cream. Instead got a mostly room temperature cookie with couple warm spots. Sure, was sweet, ice cream was cold and good, but the dessert didn't make up for anything and last possible star to take away was taken away. In a bigger vehicle could see parking might be a challenge at this location due to cramped parking lot. Overall don't think will come back after this meal, even for breakfast. This has been one of my worst dining experiences ever, maybe even the worst. About $20, with tip, wasted. Purely and utterly wasted. Stopped by for dinner the other night. Waited at the hostess stand for 3 or 4 minutes before being acknowledged. When I was acknowledged the staff was very friendly (the only reason this is a positive review). Ordered the fried chicken dinner. No flavor and dry is all can say. I can always count on the Fryn' Pan restaurants in Sioux Falls, SD for a good breakfast. They're reliable, consistent, and traditional in their habits, service, style and food. It's probably the closest thing you will get to a home cooked meal as your going to get in the city or when dining out. Known for its cinnamon rolls the size of your head, the Fryin' Pan never fails to disappoint the sweet roll lovers palate when it comes to sweet rolls. They are well worth the price...all be it reasonable whatever it is! This is also a great place to go and sit by yourself or with friends or business associates to talk. The servers never mind customers staying to chat, or even stay to get some work done at the table or booth well after you've eaten. The low playing random alternative, pop and oldie music in the background is gentle and pleasant, yet not hypnotic in the sense that it doesn't put you to sleep as if riding in an elevator. Plus, you can still hear someone talking while it's playing. What a deal. This restaurant is fit for both very casual attire, yet you can come here in a formal gown and tux at 2 am if you so choose. We were looking for a place close to our hotel and found this restaurant for breakfast. We were immediately greeted and sat. Nice menu choices and the entire family found what they wanted. I received a little carafe of coffee(how nice, as I love my coffee). Dede was friendly, quick and helpful. The food came out fast and was delicious. I had the Benedict Skillet(even came with a choice of muffin, pancakes or toast-pistachio muffin was delish), my husband had the supreme omelet and my son had the croissant breakfast sandwich. We had just driven about 12 hours in the pouring rain and needed a cheap warm meal. We all got the soup, salad bar and sandwich deal. The bar was very clean and fresh. The croutons tasted house-made and delicious! They had all protective measures in place for Covid-19. Helen, our server was attentive and kind. It literally had full size rolls in there and when I drenched it in syrup, the awesomeness got awesomer. The server Karen was not like any other Karen. Oh Fry'n Pan, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways. You are so not anything fancy or special. You are like an IHOP, or a Village Inn, but with better people watching. You attract the most interesting folks, mostly those over the age of 70. You probably have to carry 6 copies of the local paper just so your patrons don't fight over them. You do however, have a really fantastic salad bar and some of the best ranch dressing I've ever had. Your croutons are the most salty, savory, most delicious little cubes of bread. And when I put them into the vegetable beef soup, I squeal with delight. You also have these weird little slices of toasted crouton like garlic bread that I can't get enough of. What am I supposed to do with them? I don't really know for sure, but I love them all the same. But most of all, I love your Crunchy Chicken Melt more than I can say. How you can make a simple combination of chicken strips and pepper jack cheese on buttery toast taste so amazing, I'll never understand. WOW! What a place. The parking lot is lined up perfectly for driving into it slowly and parking. Really easy. And it immediately felt welcoming. When we walked towards the door, I could tell someone was nodding off in a booth near the window, with his head against a wall, mostly likely snoring. The Hostess did not make eye contact, which I thought was a nice way to not be intimidating. We were sat immediately. Took us only 2 or 3 or 5 minutes to get some water and coffee and the server was very nice. Smiled. Spoke in full sentences. It was an easy order. We went at 1am. Which we thought would be good breakfast because it's 8am somewhere. I got some eggs, some bacon, some sausage, some pancakes, some homefries, some coffee and some pie. As I write this the next morning, the meal still sits partially with me, some of it has already come out though. But what is left inside of me is making me feel incredibly heavy. I might not be able to eat breakfast. Which will be a nice way to save money AND calories!! When I got my meal, the cooks had forgotten my pancakes!! What pranksters! I enjoyed the local humor. I was able to use the bathroom 3 times during my visit, each time it was very clean in there. My friends enjoyed their meals. I think we are all friends. We work together and hang out. I haven't seen one of the people I was with in months so it was really great to see him. If I could add a 6th star for letting me hang out with my friends and drink hot coffee I would, but unfortunately would have to deduct due to being unable to add a 6th star. But that lands us at 5. So it actually works out! I'll miss my friend when I go back home. I'll miss them a lot. We have a lot of fun when we see each other! I might try to come back to this restaurant because I have other friends I still need to see and I did not get to try the french toast, the omelette, the eggs benedict, the burger, the patty melt (which might just be a burger on bread honestly) or really any of the non-breakfast. My husband and I come to sioux falls to visit family. Our first trip to fryn pan was a couple months back and we came in during the overnight shift. The cook (taller white guy) was shouting and cussing about orders. The server was nice enough (younger black male) kinda unattractive but nice. When Our food got to the table; my husband's hashbrowns and eggs were over cooked, hashbrowns really over cooked. And my pasta noodles and broccoli were cold, the broccoli wasn't cooked at all. A later trip there was a puffy hair (maybe black possible mixed) cooked working, again we can in on the overnight shift. My husband had the walleye with a loaded baked potato, and I had the salmon with load baked potato. The walleye was perfectly crispy (husband said the best walleye he had) and both baked potatoes were amazing. My salmon tasted great and had a professional presentation (all the food did). Tonight our server Reba told us the puffy hair guy was no longer there, and you can tell. Our food was lack luster, took a long time, and wasn't good at all. This was our last resort (not a bad thing by the way) after realizing that our hotels onsite restaurant closed at 10pm rather than 1am like all our information told us. It was also a Sunday night during a pandemic so everything closed very early. The food was good though. The menu is a little dated but still had a nice variety. They also had a Delivery option, but we chose to go pick it up as it was less than a mile from our hotel. The reason I gave only 4 stars was because it was a little too salty for our taste. But in a pinch it was a wonderful place to get a hot meal! read more

Full disclosure: I've been coming to the place for years, the manager knows me and I have not yet truly noticed any preferential service except maybe a little additional talk when he notices I'm there. He makes sure everyone pretty well has a quality experience. Service 8/10 Waitress service WILL vary with their age. No surprise there. Facilities 7/10 Generally very crowded, people oft forget the term 'indoor voices' but this is partially due to the kids, naturally. The parking lot should generally have spaces even at the busiest times of day, but be warned, most of the regulars don't exactly carpool so don't judge availability from outside the building. Bathrooms are small but decently kept, the lowest denominator on this is undoubtedly seating. They try to keep below 150 but it's still cramp for space at that number. Center seating is preferable provided there's no older regulars (these are the loudest by far, and some can get downright insensitive so be warned) Booths are almost claustrophobic in spacing. Tables are far better, always preferable. Food 9/10 Overall, the food is generally good but be aware that you're being served and cooked for by the same people a lot of time. They have maybe three to five people cooking in the back at once. 24 hour breakfast is generally flat taste-wise, it's what you get for a 24 hour meal served that counts though and it's hearty. Lunch is significantly better, with specials being by far the best. Dinner is a mixed bag but all is quality (though quality varies on who's cooking). Have never been in during the night shift, but rest assured more often than not the same people are serving you from 8 AM to 9PM. Pricing 6/10 The execs in Grand Forks control the pricing. So please don't give the manager crap about, he has zero control over it. Think comparable to Perkins and you're on the right track. Atmosphere 8/10 Crowded quite often, and quite often by regulars. Gets noisy but mostly tolerable so long as parents are willing to control their kids (be warned: the manager doesn't ask people to pipe down often). read more

Most of this place's charm is its open all night and has fresh salad bar. I've eaten in all three Fryin Pans in town (are there more?). Every time i order brkfast they bring me MARGARINE. I ask for butter and they bring me something called "I cant belive its not butter". What. Are. They. Thinking ??? What kind of restaurant dsnt have butter. The scarey thing is that i seem to be the only one in the restaurant that notices. Other than this glaring ommision the food is not bad. I always get the special and don't ofer anyting fancy. TIP: AVOID THE BEEF TIPS...especially the 'all you can eat' beef tips. All I could eat were two of the little tough inedible cubes. Swedish meatballs on Tuesdays are GREAT. The most consistently delicious American style food and all around great restaurant. I love the soup & salad bar no doubt about it. The soups have a homemade taste and appeal to them. Daily specials are nice with good variety too. Their kitchen made croutons make all other croutons jealous! My favorite things include the Philly steak sandwich (even comes with Aujus for dipping) which is LOADED with toppings and super cheesy. The steak tips really hit the spot when that beef craving comes! The Country Chicken Dinner is seriously great too, fried to perfection. We sat down around 6 or so, for an early dinner before a movie. Our serve Leanna didn't seem bad, just making sure we weren't checked on or needed a refill on anything. My friends and I come here to work on art and such, so, we are here for a while. In fact, until 8:30 on this day because the movie is at 9pm. During this time, we ordered our food, and I had to wait 20 or so minutes for here to walk over with ranch I had ordered with my burger. Then, after I finished my drink, I placed it at the edge of the table. You know, to let servers come by and fill it up with ease. I never got a refill. You see, my friends and I showed up when it was busy and didn't want to bother her this whole time. Then, finally, she comes around 50 minutes in: with the check. We ask politely for some deserts, specifically a hot slice of apple pie. She complies, setting it down, then disappearing. We realized: We don't have silverware. So, we watched our pie to-share get cold over time, until we notice the traffic getting slower in the restaurant. Sometime later, she shows up again and we ask for some silverware and she goes "oh some more? Alright." As if she had given us some at the beginning. Then, never to be seen again. And alas, I do not get a refill for another hour once again until we leave. This is a reminder to the staff to actually pay attention to your tables? I was waiting on Leanna to come by and ask "how's the food?" But that never happened and I felt like I wasted a long time waiting on some service that was not going to happen. read more
