I made the mistake of going there without reading reviews. Perry was extremely rude to me, a little old lady. He made me very uncomfortable just by the way he looked at me up and down. All he wanted to do was rave about Trump and rant about democrats. What store owner with half a brain does that? He literally drove me out of the store. I was disgusted and even afraid of expressing my own thoughts. I had to tell him I did not want to talk politics as he drove me out of the store. He was the creepiest man I've ever met in my 75 years! I've been bothered by this experience so much!!!! read more

I had a very bad experience with Perry's sporting goods and would never recommend them. I called Perry's (after attempting to call for 3 days with no answer) and the owner Perry picked up and was extremely unprofessional and to be frank, rude. Failed to tell me anything about the selection they had that I was inquiring about and actually hung up on me. I tried explaining to him that it's a far drive and with the current pandemic most shops don't have any in stock inventory. He told me I should just drive all the way down there to see what he had instead of him taking the 60 seconds to tell if he had what I was looking for. When I had asked about a specific make he proceeded to get angry with me and told me I don't need to buy from him and then hung up. I consider Perry like the Simon Cowell of gun sellers. Direct, strong opinions and not afraid of what you think. And like Simon, his opinion was the most valued. Ya some people get offended, I get it. But if you are looking for an opinion based on experience, I will trust his. I purchased a firearm that had an important accessory missing from a damaged box in shipment. The company that the gun was ordered from said it would be months before providing the replacement part. Perry not only ordered that missing part but he also ordered the same gun knowing that would come in sooner where he pulled the missing part from and installed it unto my gun completing it. I am the family member that Eek E. referred to in her 1-star review dated 3/9/2016 of Perry's Sporting Goods. Eek E's review is a gross misrepresentation of what occurred. The transaction occurred over a year ago when I bought my brother's gun collection from his widow (Eek E.) after he passed away. Eek E. herself chose Perry to handle the appraisal and transfer paperwork. Perry went above and beyond by meeting the family at his store after he closed for the day. He spent hours inspecting and evaluating the condition of every one of my brother's guns. He spent more hours looking up the price for each gun in standard gun price guides. I paid full appraised price for each gun. Perry then spent even more hours preparing the transfer paperwork. It was close to midnight before we were finished. For all of this he collected a small fee for the transfer paperwork. Perry handled the transaction with empathy and professionalism. I cannot understand why after over a year Eek E. has chosen to slander this honest and upstanding business. read more

Boy am I happy I found out about Perry's! Not only were there prices the best in the area, but Perry is a class act. You can tell that they are not in it for a one time sale, but more so interested in earning a lifelong customer. I feel like I can trust whatever Perry tells me, as he has talked me out of some bad moves which would've resulted in a couple quick sales for him. Example conversation below from today. Me: Hey Perry, I think I want to consign this shotgun and get a different one. I can't hit clay's for $#!+ and it's killing my shoulder. Perry takes time to take apart and inspect the shotgun and figure out what fixed chokes it had. Perry: This is a great shotgun and is perfect for what you use it for. Let me see your form. (Inspects form) what you need is for this to be fitted. Now, I could do it for you, but there is a guy that has a shop nearby you that is the best at shotgun fitting. Wow, I mean WOW. He could've sold me a new shotgun and consigned mine, or at the very least make money off me for a fitting. However, as I said earlier... Perry knows that being honest with your customer will create a lasting relationship. Thank you Perry, you'll be seeing me much much more in the future. PS - shop is super nice and clean, just off the main road. Inventory isn't huge, but he will guide you into what you're looking for and order it, or order you what you need if you already are sure about what that is. PPS - I'm in tech, and if you're in the Silicon Valley and reading this, you probably are as well. So why not just order something online. Quick answer is that Perry stands behind everything he sells. He inspects, diagnoses, and will remedy any problem you might have with something you bought from him. Perry offer's truly exceptional service and prices. I have had several excellent interactions with him as a gunsmith, salesperson and shooting coach. First he helped with the diagnosis of an M1 Garand issue. I went to Perry after another Scott's Valley gun shop had given me a suspect diagnosis. Perry had the experience to know which specialized tools where needed, got them and resolved the problem at a third the cost and a fourth time of the previous gunsmith had taken. There is no substitute for experience and a solid work ethic. After that, he help me select and purchase a new hunting rifle. He took time to learn what and where I intended to hunt, and walked though the pros and cons of several options in caliber, rifles and scopes. After I purchased the rifle, he taught me the art of properly breaking in a new high precision hunting rifle. At no extra charge, he took me to a local range and we went through a very efficient process for developing a barrel with a very accurate pattern. By the time we were done, at 100 yards the holes of a five round group were all touching. This sort of very high quality customer care is very rare now a days, indeed. read more

Perry promises my gun repairs would be done in 4-6 months, and I heard he was good, so I agreed. Most gunsmiths wouldn't take four to six months to put a new stock on a rifle, but okay. It is now been over two and a half years and he gets angry and verbally aggressive and insulting towards me if I ask him about it. Do not do business with this man! I live in Los Gatos and usually go to Ffls in the South Bay Area (Santa Clara, San Jose, Cupertino, Milpitas, Sunnyvale)ish areas. However, due to covid, most shops are not accepting PPTs at their ffl's so I've faced a lot of adversity finding a good shop. Then I thought, what about Santa Cruz!? Hmmm, found Perry's on Yelp, in Scotts Valley. It only take 20 minutes from my location. Stopped in at about 11am on a Saturday and the seller and I were third in line. It was painless and easy. Perry the owner and his associates run a great program here and are more friendly than most FFL's out there. They hate Gavin Newsome and they are not quiet about it. The seller and I received some great hospitality from the staff, from offering us beverages (Gatorade & Powerade) while we waited to the good laughs and vast knowledge. Perry and his shop get badmouthed around town and it's unfortunate because this is one of the last honest and true gun-shops in thIs area. Maybe people are just intimidated by Perry and his shop because he doesn't BS and tells it like it is. I'll tell you what, this is the first time I've purchased from Perry and it's 100% not going to be the last. The guys working here know their stuff and get their hands on some really cool collectibles that you won't find many places (or at all). I came to Perry because I made the mistake of trying to purchase my first 45-70 lever gun online. The d*** company sent me the wrong rifle (see my review of Sportsmans Outdoor Superstore). At first Perry sold me on a really cool old rifle that I fell for kind of impulsively, after having a recent disappointing experience buying online. The rifle he sold me was truly great , but after a few days it began to bug me that I still never got the rifle I was initially looking for. After a few trips back and thinking it over, I asked Perry to help me with something not many people would do: trade back the rifle I got, and ask for his help ordering the rifle I initially had my mind set on. He sat there with me and looked for over 30 minutes in until he finally found the rifle I wanted (not easy to come by) ordered it, took the credit from the rifle I initially grabbed and put it towards my new rifle. Does that something an a****** would do? Perry and his crew went above and beyond to provide the best customer service I've ever had at a gun shop. I moved from out of state and I was struggling to find a local place to help me with registering my gun and getting a California safely gun license. Perry's was SUPER helpful and answered all my questions. I called initially and asked if they could help me. The owner Perry was really helpful over the phone and said to come in and he could help me. I went in later that day and he provided me the test I needed to take and also printed out for me all the forms I needed to fill out to register my gun. He was patient, even with my newbie questions. Needed a 30.06 bolt action for deer and pig hunting. Wanted an older "classic" gun with wood stock. Perry found one and I bought it. He handled the paperwork. Great service. He has a lot of used and collectors firearms, plus a great stock of M-1 Garand parts including barrels, trigger sets, operating rods, etc. so I might build one up from parts.
