We're so happy that Persis Biryani Indian Grill has opened on the northeast side of Tallahassee! We had an excellent dinner there last night. Our server was friendly, attentive, and happy to answer questions and make recommendations. I always order Tadka Dal wherever I go, and Persis's version was outstanding--flavorful, rich, and perfectly spiced. The Butter Tikka Lamb was tender and delicious, especially with the warm garlic naan. Portions were generous, and we even had enough leftovers for dinner the next night--which might have been even better the second time around! Came into town for work and wanted Indian. This place did not disappoint. Right from the start the service was excellent and my guy was really friendly. The menu is big and lots of options. I did some apps, somas and then went with the lamb vindaloo. I had medium spice, could have went up one level. The robots are pretty cool feature. But the real winner is the food. They were able to accommodate my multiple food allergies because the server was exceptionally knowledgeable about the dishes and the ingredients. They ultimately made a dish from the menu that was slightly modified. The service was good. However, two of our group seemed forgotten until we asked about their orders. Their orders were ready and delivered immediately. The eight of us enjoyed our meals and the laid back ambiance. We especially enjoyed getting to speak with the owner! Terrible service and mediocre, hit and miss food. Made a reservation for 6 people for Mother's Day lunch. We mostly ordered off the "lunch specials" menu and it took 1.5 hours to get most of our food, and one from my party still didn't get their food. Had to walk around to flag a staff to ask about the last dish. After waiting close to 2 hours for the last dish there was no apology or offer of any kind to make it right. I chose mild in the last two Indian restaurants I've been to and they were spicy good enough to make me almost break out into sweat. However in this place, their mild is bland so warning if you like em spicy. Mild spiciness turned bland curry. Maybe that's what makes me want to rate this plate 4 stars or 3.5 stars if I could. I was thinking umm maybe this is yellow curry perhaps? Definitely not green, not red. It didn't specify in the menu. Biryani is decent. Naan was alright, toasted and filling. Price is one of the cheaper if not cheapest Indian restaurants I've been to in the Georgia-Florida area. Parking is not exactly the easiest because its main exit faces an intersection. Finally got around to trying the food at this restaurant; met my daughter and sister for lunch and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The garlic naan was sooooo good! Though our meals arrived via a "robot" (which was neat), a server actually placed the meals on our table. I am sure we will get to a point where robots will be able to actually serve the food! In any case, excellent customer service. My daughter and sister enjoyed the special beer as well. First, my apologies, we tore into our dinners before I could grab a picture or two. Second, I don't like Indian food. At least that's what I keep telling myself. Evidently, I've been eating really lousy tandoori chicken for years. I'm just not one for all the creamy sauces and bean dishes as a main course. That said, my kids decided to order takeout from Persis. We had quite a sampler. The Chicken Tandoori was not the usual dried out legs I've become accustomed to finding in typical buffets. This was breaded, moist and very tasty. We had an order of Butter Chicken, a rich sauce served with rice and slices of chicken breast. It, too, disappeared. Then we tried the 65 chicken. An odd name, but essentially a spicy popcorn chicken. Next, we moved on to Shrimp biryani and vegetable biryani. Again, fried chicken with rice and roasted veggies. And finally, a Szechuan noodle with chicken. Simply outstanding. Just a word of warning. For every dish, you have spice level options. Being from Texas, I take heat really well. But, I was warned this place doesn't mess around. So, I suggest you start with medium spice. The spicy might just bring you to your knees. read more

Finally, I have found (and met) the Indian joint that I have been looking for since I moved to Tallahassee! Granted, it has only been two weeks since my relocation, but in that short time, I was getting quite panicky that I might not find a solidly delicious and authentic Indian restaurant to pledge my loyalty to. Persis. Is. The. Spot. First star came when I was able to place a free (no fee) online order through Yelp's partnership with Grubhub (I presumed that Yelp partnered with Grubhub but I could be wrong). I digress. I ordered a bomb a** Butter Chicken (medium spicy) with garlic naan. The naan was cooked perfectly as was the butter chicken. But most importantly, the rice was the authentic Basmati rice that I did NOT find when I ordered this same dish as takeout from Mayuri. In short, I will definitely be back to Persis. Time and time again. The total meal came to around $17, which is still a few dollars cheaper than where I used to order from back in Tampa. The meal without the naan would have only been $14 at the most. A solid price for one meal that could turn into two (if there had been more chicken in my sauce) ;o) :D read more

It was a bit difficult to choose. I was very nervous not bc of the ingredients but because of the taste of the sauce. Perhaps, offering a sample of the chutney? However, I was able to ask for the most popular. It tasted delicious! Atmosphere/environment: The environment was a bit dark but colorful. It provided a a cozy and comfortable vibe. Notes:Amount/pricing $: The price expected to pay is about $22 per person. This is with water as the beverage and 1 appetizer. Pricey in my opinion. Amount/portions: The portion is small for appetizers (not so sharable). The entree portion is a little more than average. My appetizer includes 2 Samosas; small. There's 2-3 Naan as and medium bowl of rice and entree. With multiple starch options as the sides, it could fill a person up. However, I'm not a big fan of the amount of starch compared to the entree. The price paid without eating the starch entirely lead to the lack of satiety isn't so great. The food was a generous portion and super flavorful. Everything was so clean and tidy. When you walk in, you feel that the place is crisp and clean. They have two hand sanitizer bottles on the table as well as wipes. Everything about it was good. I think we tried Persis several years ago but thought we'd give it another try recently. Compared to other Indian restaurants in town, Persis' flavors were tasty however, I'm not in the habit of not receiving rice with main entrees. We ordered the lamb samosa - there were 3, and they were much smaller than most samosas I've ever ordered. Anywhere (and I've eaten Indian food in lots of different places in the world). Recap: food tastes great, but for the money, especially compared to other places in town, don't come too hungry or else you're bound to spend a lot more. Also, I had ordered online, paid on my phone, but evidently the entire order disappeared. They were quick about getting my order out when I replaced my order there. read more

Pandemic times have forced changes. Persis is wonderful at No contact ordering and paying when inside. There were few people inside and it felt clean. The lunch buffet is a little different in that you order the dish you want and it comes with rice and naan. I also ordered a side of soup ( Mulligatawny Soup ) and it was quite tasty. First of all, no visible pandemic precautions. Second, I had called to place an order, and instead of telling me they weren't taking orders yet, the person who picked up the phone simply hung it up. I called back, thinking maybe it was might be a mistake, and the person who answered the phone said that I couldn't call in an order until a certain time. Then I asked how long it would take to get ready and she just said she didn't know and left it at that. So at the appointed time I looked up the restaurant and clicked on "website" and ordered from their menu. Nothing told me I was ordering through Door Dash or GrubHub or whatever, but when I got there they told me I did and that I had paid 30% more, and they were fine with that. YUM! We have been to a handful of Indian places throughout different cities and I have to say the butter chicken here is the best I have ever had. The spices were just delicious and the chicken was tender. The naan was also perfect. We were greeted by the friendly hostess and immediately brought water and their "chips" with Indian sauces. Very nice touch. They also have a great drink menu with good beer and wine prices and interesting cocktails. Our server was great as well. The place was moderately crowded indicating it is popular. Since I driving home from tally, I decide to make this restaurant a destination for lunch stop. The restaurant is kind of empty for Friday. When I arrive, I found out they serve the lunch buffet for $10. It is a good deal. I like Indian buffet with biryani rice. They have the veggie and chicken biryani. I have both of them. They are good. Mainly this restaurant only serve the chicken meat. The buffet include a lot of veggie dish. It also has tandoori chicken, nan, butter chicken, and more. There is plenty of food. I did not go for the salad or the sweet. I don't want fall a sleep with too much sweet while driving. Overall good experience with good service. read more

What a great experience! Top quality service and food! Although there are a few other Indian restaurants in Tallahassee, Persis sets themselves apart with the quality of the food and menu items that no one else serves. I tried the Samosa as an appetizer, Persis Ki Naan Basket (the garlic naan was my favorite!), the Chana Masala, and the Paneer Butter Masala. The portion sizes are perfect, with just enough to bring home at the end of the meal to enjoy the next day. I also could not get enough of their chutneys. Seriously, I could have made a meal out of just bowls of those and naan! Went for the lunch buffet with another Yelper. The buffet was really fantastic with a wide selection of items to choose from, and not just the typical "low budget" fare you find at many buffets. For instance, I was shocked to see goat biryani on the buffet. I rarely see goat on a buffet as there are other, less expensive proteins for a restaurant to offer. My family was craving Indian food but also wanted to grab a few drinks so when we found out that Persis had a full bar AND happy hour deals on a Saturday (buy 2 drinks get one free), our decision was practically made for us. I was really impressed that there was a cocktail menu that served classic drinks with an Indian twist. I tried the Indian margarita and it was delicious, just a little too sweet for my taste. We ordered 4 entrees for dinner- paneer tikka, the okra (bindhi), the dal tadka (yellow Dahl), and chicken korma. We also ordered a side of butter naan and all the dishes were served with rice. The menu had great vegetarian and non-vegetarian options, and it was very easy to understand. Everything was so good it was hard to pick a favorite entree!!
