Although the food is good, the attitude has become typical of Tallahassee. They have ZERO common sense!!! Today I went there for take. It was 4:25pm and I was waiting outside for them to open at 4:30. It was just about to start pouring rain so I tried the door and it was open. When I entered I saw that the lights were off but didn't see anyone so I just stood there one step inside enough for the door to close behind me as the sky opened up. Just then the lady who owns the place got up from a couch just past the entrance to the right where she clearly had been napping. We exchanged pleasantries and she asked if she could help me. I told her I wanted to place an order to go, when she told me they wouldn't be till 4:30. Looking at my watch I apologized and asked if I could wait the five minutes since it was pouring outside. Her response was "no sorry, we don't open till 4:30. WTH?? I mentioned that it was pouring and asked if I could just stand there for the next five minutes and her response was, "No. Sorry we don't open till 4:30." I explained that I understood that and wasn't expecting service until then but just wanted to not get soaked. She stared at me like I had three heads and repeated that the weren't open. ‍ Needless to say I went outside, got soaked on way to the car and then sat there for a minute or two until I decided I just wasn't going to eat the today and possibly ever again! read more

This is one of my favorite Thai places in town! I love the Thom Kai soup and usually order it medium. Their egg rolls are crispy and delicious. Their panang curry is the best in town! They have wonderful lunch specials that include soup and an egg roll. The red curry is very flavorful! I can't say enough about the service here. I used to live walking distance from Thai Place, and I would eat there once a week (or more). I've tried over a dozen items on the menu. I'm also a fan of Thai food in general, and I visit Thai restaurants whenever I travel. Their food is some of the best in Tallahassee. I especially like the pad see ew and the drunken noodle. I find their lunch specials to be reasonably priced and I like the soup and spring that's included. The wait staff has been consistently friendly and attentive. They do get busy at time and there is an occasional wait. When they make a mistake, they are quick to fix it. I have observed them respond graciously to more than one difficult customer. The restaurant is cozy and relatively quiet. I appreciate that they do not have loud TVs (though a news channel does play with the audio off). The decor reflects Thai culture. Highly recommended, especially for lunch. read more

Had lunch with a friend today at this restaurant (first visit). We were warmly greeted upon entrance; very quaint dining area (not a lot of space). The servers were very pleasant and accommodating. My friend had the fresh garlic dish with chicken (which came with big chunks of veggies), and I had the fried rice with chicken. The lunch entrees include one spring roll (with honey sauce) and wonton soup. Everything was delicious - very fresh! We both enjoyed our meal. We enjoyed our dinner at "That Thai Place". The decor was really fun, service was great & food was just what we were hoping for. The Massaman curry had a nice flavor with warm notes of cinnamon, coriander & nutmeg & coconut milk. Our waitress let us know that they use blue crab in the crab Rangoons and those were delicious! I've tried almost every highly rated Thai restaurant in Tallahassee and this is my favorite one. The drunken noodles here are fantastic, however I order mine with the flat rice noodle instead of the udon (I think it absorbs the sauce better). I literally drive an hour round trip just to eat this food. It's a must visit. read more

Thai Place saved me when Bahn Thai refused to do takeout orders due to an unusually busy Thursday night. The Crab Rangoon was some of the best I've ever had. The appetizer was a very fair portion (at least 5 or 6 pieces were in the box). Each piece was perfectly fried, just light enough to provide a solid but semi-crisp coating around a very generous portion of crab and cream cheese mixture. The sweet chili sauce for dipping was a very palatable match for this appetizer. For my main entree I had the Cashew Nut Chicken which was very good as well. I asked for medium spicy but I think the lady on the phone just heard "spicy" which was evident based on the number of red chili flakes visible at first glance. I was able to scrape off some of the chili flakes to bring the flavor to more of a "medium" spicy. My only complaint for this takeout experience is that I think they should give you more rice. If I had dined in, I would have a heaping portion of rice on the side, and would have been able to ask for more if needed. My entree just came with a "scoop" of Jasmine rice, and a LOT of leftover space in the box. If that box had been packed full of rice, I would have been able to enjoy the rest of the entree's vegetables and cashew nuts, but with the sauce being too spicy, I really needed more rice. In short, it is a bit of a hike from where I reside in Midtown, but the food was very good so I look forward to being able to dine-in for a night of Thai food at Thai Place very soon! read more

A bit overpriced at $14.99 for tofu basil fried rice and they don't allow substitutions, so extra $3 for adding broccoli instead of other vegetables, making the fried rice $18 quite expensive for lunch. Lunch did come with a spring roll and clear soup which we didn't need and did not expect. They also did not pay attention to my order saying only tofu and broccoli, no other vegetables and added carrot, which my son absolutely does not like. When I noticed it at pickup, the lady at register said I did not say no carrot. Kid did not like the flavor as it is a bit different taste from what he is used to. I went during lunch hour for a takeout pad Thai. Meh. Very few bean sprouts and very dry as was the chicken in it. I know it's not supposed to be "wet," but this was the driest I've had. Survive was friendly and fast. I waited about 7 minutes for my order which came with a small spring roll and a small vegetable broth. Both of them were good. I like that they included a small sauce for the spring roll. I'd have to try it again to get a better feel but so far not spectacular. read more

One of the best Thai places I've been to. Staff is super hospitable and amiable. The service alone is worth 5 stars. The decor is great. I somehow feel like I'm transported to an exotic location when I'm here. Lunch specials are fantastic and cheap. I always get the garlic chicken. Super Thai!! Lol Maybe even my new favorite place. There's a super wonderful atmosphere here with all the decorations and the Thai music going on. Super-iffic staff too; everyone was so warm and welcoming and wonderfully friendly. The vegetable massaman curry was one of the best I've had in a long time and we do a lot of Thai. In fact, I haven't seen as generous a Thai iced coffee pour, ever. And that spice condiment tray? Whooo! Impressive and with those iddy bitty chopped peppers, mnm mmm. *Sigh* Here's another review I am reluctant to write because I don't want to never be able to get a table again when everyone realizes what a gem this is. Although this place has been open for several years, I just heard about it this week and went there tonight. As soon as we walked in it felt magical. There were so many interesting things everywhere, and the lighting was so sparkly (not too bright) and colorful. We really felt like we were not in Tallahassee (by that am not knocking Tallahassee; I just mean it was unlike any other restaurants here). I think it is family owned, and the service was wonderful. All the dishes we got were delicious. I can't think of a negative thing to say about it, so I gave it five stars. read more

I love this place. I've been for lunch and dinner and everything I've tried has been great. Todays trip was an actual dine in for lunch. I changed from my regular panang curry to beef fried rice. Now this is what great Thai food is supposed to be like. Traditional. The Tom Yum Goong was excellent! Great lemony flavor with additional flavors of galangal and Thai chilis. The fresh gulf shrimp were very delicious. Not a hint of fishiness and a nice crisp snap at every bite. The Pad Kee Mao with traditional wide rice noodles was equally delicious. The dish's sauce had that great smokey flavor that I always crave with plenty of fresh vegetables to complement. This representation sets the bar of what great Pad Kee Mao is supposed to taste like here in the United States just as I remember when trying for the first time while visiting Thailand many years ago. Both dishes were highlighted with the sought after fresh Thai chili pepper. An awesome vegetable with a great pepper flavor and packing one wallop of a punch. This pepper is not for the faint of heart and expect a spiciness rating of 10+ (Thai spicy). Expect to be served by very friendly and expeditious wait-staff. Could not have asked for better service. I love Thai food and this place does not disappoint! I came here with my family and we ordered a bunch of food. For apps we got the summer roll which was really good and also the spring rolls which were okay. For entrees we got shrimp, veg, and chicken red curry and they were all delicious! And they can make it spicy which is great for my family. We also got the spicy duck and added ginger and garlic to it and it was probably the best dish we got! Thai ice tea was way too sweet. Large quantity but way too sweet. Pad see yew was way too salty and noodles were not fresh. Asked them to remake it. The new one was just as salty. I can't believe this place has a 4 star overall yelp rating. Yuck. Cook came out and wasn't very happy with me. Told me to go someplace else. A great place for Thai cuisine! It's one of my family's favorites in Tallahassee. Though it's a little small, it's not usually overly crowded during the week. The decor of the restaurant is nice and the staff is so friendly (my dad is always talking everyone's ears off). The food is pretty great too! I love that Thai Place is doing curbside during the coronavirus pandemic. You can call them and they will take both your order and credit card over the phone. You then call them when you are parked outside and they bring the food to your car. We tried the crab Rangoon and the spring rolls as appetizers. The crab Rangoon were fairly typical and came with a sweet chili sauce. The spring rolls were also typical and came with a nice plum sauce. For entrees we had Pad See Ewe with tofu, green curry with beef and Pineapple Fried rice (which had chicken and shrimp). All were very good. The green curry was packed with flavor, but the side of Jasmine rice was pitifully small, with far to Lorie rice to soak up the curry sauce. Next time we will order another side of rice (although we really shouldn't have to: I without normally expect a larger portion to come with the dish). Everything was hot and tasty. Add that to curbside, contactless pickup, and we will certainly be back. read more
