Hubby and I recently went to Persis Indian Grill for the first time. Our friend introduced us to this restaurant, and I am so glad. He ordered several dishes that we have never tried before and I was really pleasantly surprised: Karampodi chicken, Shrimp pepper fry, Guntur mirchi bajji, Nellore fish pulls, naan, & briyani. Our friend knew our typically go-to dishes are the butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, tandoori etc... so he ordered all these dishes so we can try new things. And every dish was delicious. Especially the Guntur mirchi bajji (fried green chili topped with onion & cilantro). Very delicious and fresh with different textures. It's a dish I'd have never ordered. The boys were back together so we of course had to have Indian Food but we wanted to check out a new spot and Persis Indian Grill was the pick. We come in around 8:15PM on a Sunday night so we had no issue getting a table. Once seated we started off with drinks. I normally go for a Kingfisher but they didn't have it. Was they did have was better. We got a Taj Mahal Lager and this bad boy comes in a large size which we were all impressed with. A full 22oz-24oz bottle gets us every time. For entrees they had a bunch of options and the prices were really good. We of course had to get some Naan and we went with Garlic and Chili Cheese. Their Garlic Naan was thinner then I was used too but still good. The Chili Cheese Naan was great and I will be getting this every time it is offered. I ended up getting by go to. The Lamb Korma spicy level hot. This again was a great price $19 or $20. Most Indian places have it $5 or $7 more for Lamb. This was a nice big serving and it was loaded with tender chunks of Lamb. I will say it was for sure a more mild spice for sure not hot and the Korma Curry was flavorful but not as much as I have had. I would for sure come back because prices are very good friendly staff and so many options. read more

The 'Biryani' dish is a staple South Indian treat: Basmati rice with so much spices and can be served with chicken, goat or lamb.It also comes with a boiled egg. When I did a business culture treat at Hyderabad India back in 2014, this was the food right outside the hotel and Persis Indian Grill takes me back to that delicious memory and we are blessed to have it here at Baymeadows as it is very consistent with flavor and the service is always great. The servings are very gracious that you most likely will take some to go. Oh, and just be sure to address the server about the spice level as a medium can be a bit too hot for some. Heard that it is a great South Indian food spot that specializes in the Biryani sauces for their meals and went with the Lamb Biryani that comes with Basmati rice and it so delicious and just at mild spice level, the creaminess of the sauces just all blend well together. Also, the servings are huge, even though I was hungry, I won't be able to finish it as it will be lunch tomorrow at work. The service was excellent. The server was very nice to us. I don't know how I have missed reviewing this restaurant, because it was FABULOUS. So if I am late to the party, so be it. I won't make that mistake again. First, the location is on Baymeadows Road with large private parking lot in front. Second, everything was so clean, it put me at ease right away. The decor is tasteful, but not overdone but the food, at least what we ordered, was outstanding. What did we have? Well....... Butter Naan - flat, tasty, liked it. Tea - OK this was a miss for me, they only had bottle drinks which means no free refills. I don't know about you when I have dinner. I usually drink a lot, so this time I just drank a lot of water. Persis is known for their Biryani (it's on the sign!), so we ordered the Goat Dum Biryani. The meat felt and tasted like it was marinated for a month- so tender and flavorful. The presentation of the biryani was classic, with sliced red onion and a boiled egg on top. The portion was enough for a family of four if other entrees are also ordered. For the two of us, we had our fill there, and both had enough for lunch the next day. It was served with a raita and another curry-esque sauce with a slight peanut undertone. I used a little raita, but the biryani was so full of flavor it wasn't needed. We accompanied our biryani with Aloo Gobi - sauteed cauliflower and potatoes in a spicy cumin-centric sauce. Their version of this all-veg dish was saucier than I've encountered, which made it complementary to naan, which our server was thoughtful enough to ask about when we hadn't ordered any by default. We also enjoyed the Chili Chicken as an appetizer- this seemed to be a popular dish as 3 other tables could be overheard ordering it while we were there. I would compare it to a spicier version of a Chinese takeout chicken dish- but with an Indian flare, thinner batter, and more deliciousness. Spice customization is an option, and you can choose from Mild, Medium, Hot, or Extra hot. We went with Hot and it was perfectly spicy for those of us who can handle a little heat. Persis gets a solid 3 stars from me--it's a mixed bag, with some hits and misses. We went with a large group and ordered a variety of dishes. The samosas were a nice start--crispy and flavorful. The gobi Manchurian was easily the standout, with a perfect balance of spice and crunch. The malai kofta, however, was underwhelming--I was hoping for a bit more flavor. The tandoori leaned heavily on tomato flavor, which packed spice but didn't quite hit the mark for me. On the other hand, the goat chettinadu was fantastic--rich and bold with just the right kick. But do note, the goat dishes come with bones, which I don't mind, but it's something to be cautious about if that's not your thing. The mango lassi was more mango-forward than yogurt-forward, which some people may prefer, but it wasn't quite my ideal balance. Also, the portion of rice served with the curries felt skimpy, especially for sharing dishes. Service was attentive, but I might be biased since we were with someone who knew the staff. They did forget our order of chicken biryani but handled it graciously by agreeing not to make it since we were already full. The ambiance is clean but simple--not much in terms of decor. They do have a large screen showing Indian cultural holidays and ads for their food, which adds a nice cultural touch. The coolest part of the space is the LED-lit bubble water wall--it's unique and definitely catches the eye. Overall, it's a decent spot with some standout dishes (looking at you, gobi Manchurian and goat chettinadu) but also a few misses. Got takeout Indian, craving the taste from home after traveling for a few days and eating all other cuisines. The flavors are legit! Excellent spice flavors and masala, and all great portions. We got the karampodi chicken, mutton biryani, and chicken tikka masala. The karampodi was nice and flavorful, pretty spicy, and a little crispy. The mutton biryani had a great balance of masala, meat, and rice, and came with raita and chutney. The tikka masala was also a good balance of creamy and flavorful, not too over the top. It is a South Indian place - if you know your Indian places, you'll know that the garam masala flavors are punchy and very forward in their cuisine. This was no different. Today's first visit to Persis Biryani Indian Grill was a fantastic experience. I southern Indian cuisine is what I enjoyed for lunch. Surprisingly I became very full after eating only half of the generous portion of my Persis Special Chicken Biryani (Boneless) entree. I'll definitely enjoy the tasty leftovers at home. Dining area is spacious with very comfortable and contemporary designed furniture. Interior is very clean. Staff is amazingly friendly, courteous and professional. Shoutout to Bobby & Abi for helping make my first visit a wonderful one! To top of my dining experience were the energizing and great sounds of Indian music. Sooooo delicious! The service was amazing and they even gave us free mango lassis for our first time here! They were so creamy and delicious!! I got the butter chicken medium and it was the perfect spice level for me! So yummy! I also got garlic naan to accompany the butter chicken of course! We shared the gobi 65 and it was PHENOMENAL!! I don't usually like cauliflower, but it was so well seasoned and crispy! I will definitely order it next time I go back; it is a must try!! This felt like some amazing home cooking! I forgot to take pictures of everyone's food but we ordered takeout for the family! It's my grandpas favorite place for some goat. The flavors were beyond amazing! A true taste sensation. It's got a very nice vibe to it! I think it definitely stands out among all the restaurants along the road. It's always a good sign when an ethnic restaurant is filled with clientele of said ethnicity. Had a small hiccup with an unavailable menu item and they happily swapped it out. Their spice scale ranges from medium to Indian spicy. I ordered it spicy. Flavorful, mouth watering, savory and just enough heat to keep you going back for more. I am beyond satisfied and the price to value is absolutely worth it for such great food. I will happily order again and can't wait to explore more of their menu! Support their franchise. I stopped into Persis for Lunch today to see how the Indian food selections in Jax is coming along. This is a family type spot with booths & tables, not a white tablecloth restaurant. The prices reflect casual, but they are in no means cheap. Portion sizes are not large, kinda small to average. I bought lunch to dine in & food to try at home. The flavors here are pretty spot on; almost home cooked Indian. I tried several different things to compare with food that I've eaten in my hometown NYC. I'm very critical about food being a New Yorker. They didn't take too long to prepare the food. I could tell it was all fresh. I loved the Mango Lassis; kinda small, so I had 2 (not cheap either). There was only 1 waiter on the floor since they had just opened for the day. It got busier for Lunch after 12. He was friendly & knowledgeable. I asked about some other Dessert selections like Carrot Halwa, & Mango kulfi, being that it is Ramadan season, I thought they would carry/make it. But...no; I was being too ambitious. However, the Rasmalai dessert & Gulab Jamon, were small & tasty. I've posted some pics of the dishes I tried. I'd say to anyone living in or visiting Jax to come over here with your family or a few friends & order up a few things so you too can feast like a "Moghul". Decided to go here for a family outing and the food was amazing! I had the chicken curry, samosas and garlic naan plus Indian Masala Tea. It was so delicious, the chicken was tender the curry was the perfect and the naan was to die for and the tea was superb with great flavor. The service was fantastic as well! The music from the videos was lively and added to the dining experience. The menu is wonderful and has a lot to offer: Vegetables, meats, methods of cooking, level of spices, etc. The skill level of the food is on point. I can really taste the Love! We had a cauliflower fry for our appetizer and it was so satisfying. The texture, color, and flavor was a wonderful starter. Hubby had lamb pepper fry extra spicy... the texture was the perfect chew! The fry spices were masterfully balanced and the best type of spicy hot! I am not as skilled eating spicy so I stayed with the lamb vindaloo medium spicy. It was rich, savory, and comforting. I added a few pieces of the lamb fry to give me a few bites of the yummy textured spice. I also ordered some yogurt to make sure that I had total control of the heat. Paired with rice, naan, roti and refreshingly mango lassi... we had a harmonious meal! We ate until full and our Foodie sense satisfied!!! Our server was so very kind and attentive! Persis is our go to Indian Restaurant in Jacksonville. Their Naan is the best around. The service is always great, portions are health and the quality is top notch. With so many Indian Restaurants in Jacksonville, it can be a challenge to try them all, let alone decide which is the "best". Many factors should be taken into consideration, and what might initially appear to be substandard or grand, can sometimes be quite the opposite. Persis Indian Grill is no exception. But I'll get right to the point here and then explain why-- Persis is quite possibly THE BEST Indian restaurant in Jacksonville! Persis doesn't win this accolade from exquisite/fancy decor or 5-star ambiance. It doesn't take the honor because of super cheap prices. Simply stated, the food is exceptionally great and the service/staff are down-to-earth and friendly. Whether it's a Korma, Vindaloo or Biryani dish, everything is generously portioned and perfectly flavored. Heat levels are predictable, whether mild, nuclear, or somewhere in-between, you will get just what you expect. Meats and vegetables are tender and tasty, have an impressive complexity in spice, flavor and depth, and are never over or under cooked. Pricing is typical for the market. Persis could easily become a 5-Star establishment with a bit of work on decor and "curb appeal". But maybe that deficit makes them a true "diamond in the rough". Expect an atmosphere like a "sit-down" 5-guys, with a bit less chaos. It's a pleasant place to take the family or a group of friends. I will be submitting reviews for the other Indian Restaurants in the area, but overall, Persis beats them all. The one downside is the lack of a lunch portioned menu for that time of day. If this is your lunch stop, expect to bring home a generous to-go box! Keep up the great work guys! read more

My fiancé and I are from out of town have tried a lot Indian restaurant dishes in the last two months to determine our caterer. The garlic naan was so fresh, the chicken tikka masala was so flavorful and a very generous portion, and my mom who was with me had the goat chettig.... something (can't remember the name) was excellent.
