We came to this restaurant in late October, 2019. We waited five minutes to be suited at an almost empty restaurant, then waited ten minutes more before water was served. Another ten minutes later, we were finally given a chance to order. Twenty minutes later, one entree was brought to the table, a full ten minutes before both of our appetizers or the other entree. In short, the service was terrible. We ordered chicken tikka misala, tandoori chicken, dosa, and naan, all staples of any indian joint I have ever been to. The naan was literally dripping with gee and was an unpleasant bite. The dosa was underseasoned and dry. The Tandoori chicken was dry and underspiced, with its accompanying vegetables burned onto the serving platter. The chicken tikka misala was without a doubt the worst my party had ever tasted. The dominate flavor was uncooked coconut milk, barely overshadowing undseasoned, possibly boiled chicken breast. Neither of us in the party were able to eat more than a few bites of it before giving up. In short, the food was the worst Indian food I have eaten, not only in the Lansing area, but anywhere. We would not recommend this restaurant when there are other, far more pleasant options, within easy driving distance. read more

I've tried this place in the past and wasn't super impressed but decided to try it again since it has such great reviews. So let's get down to the food! The zeera (jeera) rice was okay, it had sautéed onions and a couple of other ingredients that weren't needed but it tasted good overall. I think they should keep the rice plain and ditch all the extra shenanigans. The chicken tikka masala was food! It's sweet, could use a bit more heat, but the chicken pieces were hearty and the sauce was creamy and not chunky. The garlic naan was good too! It was full of flavor and not burned! My siblings and I really enjoyed it! The tandoori chicken was the star of the show girl! It came on a sizzling plate and it tasted so good! It was so good we ordered another plate of it! They flavor was so good, they really hit it out of the park with that one. The service on the other hand is just not there, it's very typical of an Indian restaurant if I may say. Upon returning to Persis for dinner, I have to downgrade my previous review. The wait staff, although courteous, were nowhere to be found. The restaurant was practically empty and we waited a long time to place our order. Once our food arrived, we had to request a bowl of rice be brought to the table. The food was decent. I had the chicken vindaloo (spicy) which was good. The gobi manchurian appetizer is very tasty. The garlic naan is definitely good as well. The decor is still nice even though the seating is somewhat stiff and uncomfortable. A large flat-screen television is set on Zing, an Indian Bollywood music video channel. I was really excited to try Persis, and the food lived up to my expectations. We had naan, shrimp biryani and a shrimp curry. The food was excellent! It wasn't too spicy and was very filling. I loved my mango laasi, but couldn't finish it. I hated leaving some behind. They have a large tv in the dining room and bumped bollywood videos, which was awesome. The problem with eating at Persis is that I don't want to eat anything else for days afterward because nothing sounds as good as Persis. They have mastered the flavor spectrum. My favorites are the Gobi 65 (spicy fried cauliflower), samosas (turnovers filled with blended potatoes, peas, and spices - thrilled that Persis' doesn't add onion in these), dhum ka chicken, and their traditional tikka masala. All their chicken dishes use nice non-fatty cuts and the portions are really decent for sharing. Definitely the best Indian cuisine in the Lansing/EL area. read more

This restaurant is quite new, and my husband and I are happy to find a new Indian in town. We tried Father's day, special lunch buffet at our first visit, and we were surprised by many variety foods! They were outstanding!!! We loved their foods and the owner family's nice service, we went back for dinner within a short time. We ordered our favorite Sagu (Spinach) and egg plant curry, we loved them again. They are specialist of Biryani (Indian Flied Rice). They cook rice in different hue of red, orange, to yellow color, and it tastes just fantastic! If you are not spicy foods fan, you can ask them to cook mild. Strongly recommended! read more

I am pregnant and was craving Indian food. My fiance is a sport and we thought we would try Persis for the first time. We were seated and brought a basket of crispy bread and sauces....we waited and looked at the menu for a good ten minutes or so before we asked a waiter that was not ours if we could have some beverages. Our waitress was setting a table even though they werent busy. She appeared unenthusiastic and perhaps tired?? She came over got us drinks and forgot waters until halfway thru our meal. We ordered garlic naan and samosas for appetizers. Both were ok. The naan didnt melt in my mouth like it does at Swagath. For dinner I got chef's special dal and my fiance got creamy spinach chicken. His was very good and mine could have used a bit of pizzaz. Can't put my finger on what. I ordered it medium spice btw. So maybe stronger spice next time. We waited quite a while for our check because the receipt machine was jammed. Our waitress totally redeemed herself when she ran our leftovers out to us after we both forgot to grab them off the table! Had some great samosas sometime back at a friend's place and found that they were from Persis in Okemos. So, next time I was in the area, promised myself to give it a try. This review is entirely for the lunch buffet and not alacarta. Maybe that is much better. I still feel this place has a lot of potential if the owner pulls his head out of wherever and takes notice. The place is not bad to sit down but appears disorganized. Had one disinterested waiter and another bloke who was always more worried in collecting the money they did not earn. I never, not leave a tip but did it this time. What does that tell you. The buffet was in my opinion worth $5 at best and they charge $11. Problem with most Indian restaurants is that they want the money but try to skimp on quality, service and value. That is why Chinese buffets do so much better. The buffet an appetizer section which was mostly empty with left overs. Refills were not happening though it was only 1.45pm and lots of people had signed in to eat. The main section had Andhra style chicken which was tasty but had shredding chicken pieces. Palak paneer was ok, nothing to write home about. Fish curry was again mediocre. Rest of the stuff did not not look appetizing at all. The Naans which would come at long intervals were hot and tasty while they lasted. Sweet dishes consisted of poor quality Mysore Pak and Mango Phirni ( I think they should rename it "Phir Nahi" ). No one is going for seconds on this one! Word of advice For a college town like East Lansing which has a large population of Indian Students and others who would like Indian food, this restaurant in located at an ideal place. You need to work on maintaining quality and getting the place better organised. Charge more if need be but do not kill the Indian meal experience. Get more staff. You will do much better read more

We ordered their tandoori chicken, lamb vindaloo -medium, and chana masala -hot. They don't have lamb roganjosh, which is my favorite and a total winner at Sindhu. However, the lamb vindaloo was still pretty good. My husband was very happy with the chana masala. The tandoori chicken was a stand out. They serve it hot and sizzling. Flavorful and moist. We didn't have tandoori at Sindhu, so can't compare. We found this restaurant more comfortable than Sindhu overall, but both are good options. read more

I ordered a couple entrees, appetizers, naan, and other dishes with a couple of co-workers and it was definitely a ton of food. We were quite full! The food tasted reasonably fresh, but in my opinion could have been more flavorful. This is about to be the mother of all mixed reviews. The food here is excellent during the lunch buffet. I have gone to Persis many times for lunch and I have loved it every time. I especially love their paneer tikka masala, chili baby-corn, and their desserts are fantastic. The food is fresh and always looks, smells, and tastes delicious. I have no idea whether it is accurate and/or traditional Indian cuisine but it is great. Service is prompt and extremely polite. There are several choices for Indian in the area and you can't go wrong with Persis. The only thing I would change about the lunch buffet is asking them to post the daily buffet somewhere. It would be nice to be able to know what is on the buffet however I haven't had anything bad here. Now for the mixed part, dinner. I have only gone this restaurant for dinner once. The service was ok but they were extremely busy. I had heard good things about the dinner service and had been to Persis for lunch in the past. Unfortunately the food was nowhere near as good as it is on the lunch buffet and left me feeling generally disappointed. I am unsure as to why but the food at dinner was much heavier and less flavorful than it always is at lunch. This is why the review is only 4 stars as opposed to 5. I would and have gone back for lunch many times but haven't felt like going for dinner. Also, given the price, lunch is a much better deal. My husband and I tried to make this our go-to place for Indian food, but I'm pulling the plug. Our favorite is butter chicken and when Persis is having a good day, it's great! But the spice profile is WAY too inconsistent (one day the medium spice is like tomato soup, the next time it's like molten lava), the service is lacking, and last time I witnessed a server do a wet sloppy sneeze into his hand and then he continued tapping away at the register. Persi's is, by far, my favorite restaurant in the Lansing area. Period. I'm biased though...if I had to pick one cuisine to eat for the rest of my life, it would be Indian. I enjoy Swagath's, and Sindhus, but I feel like Persi's blows both of those out of the water when it comes to the buffet. Persi's is more of a southern indian style, and it is definitely more spicy than the other buffets that cater more towards students. The variety on the buffet is always changing, and they usually have a good 2/3 meat dishes, and 5 or 6 vegetarian dishes, as well as fixin's, chutneys, veggies, etc. When I'm not on a budget (or a diet), I easily eat here 2 or 3 times a week for lunch. The food is fantastic, spicy, and the variety is incredible. If you like REAL Indian food, and not some Americanized masala, eat here. Trust me, and thank me later. read more

My family usually orders for takeout and there was one time where they forgot an extra rice. They didn't have to but someone decided they would drive all the way to us to give us that extra rice. Tried this restaurant for lunch last week with some friends from work. I'll preface my review with the caveat that I'm no expert on Indian food. However, a couple of the people that I ate with are fairly knowledgeable and eat Indian food quite regularly. Bottom line: everything I tasted was delicious. We all agreed that this food was amazing, and that it is better than Sindhu, another Lansing area Indian restaurant. The lunch buffet had a wide variety of items, and we were all impressed with the flavor and quality. Price for the lunch buffet was $10.99. It's more than I'd like to pay for a lunch buffet, but considering how good it was, I'd have no problem highly recommending Persis to my friends and family. read more

Good: Seated quickly, varied menu choices Bad: Service. Waiter was frenetic and could not speak intelligible English. He handed us a carafe of ice water, but could not be bothered to pour our first glasses. Some woman came by our table a couple of times, pointed at dishes, mumbled something unintelligble and smiled. I have no idea what she was saying/asking. Host brought my chai because waiter was "too busy" (although there were only a few tables occupied in entire restaurant). Good: Complimentary pappadum Bad: Accompanying chutneys were weird flavors. Mint was too salty and had very hot chile, red one was ketchup with minced onions and chiles, tamarind (usually my favorite) was too sweet and spiced with cinnamon. I have never encountered such versions of any of these anywhere before. Good: Entrees were quite good Bad: Minimal beverage choices. Only mango lassi, pop, tea. No fruit juices although online menu lists several. Mango lassi tasted OK, but was an odd fake orange color. We concluded that between the strange color and the lack of mango juice, the lassi must be pre-mixed. Chai, a mere 2/3 cupful, was lukewarm and tasteless. Good thing we had that carafe of water! Bottom line: TRAIN THE WAITSTAFF. They don't know how to wait a table, and since they cannot speak understandable English, customers cannot get information about dishes. This is the worst indian restaurant i've ever seen. Very poor staff and don't know how to behave with customers. These guys having the restaurant in Okemos and thinking like they are monopoly in that area. Especially the working staff the typical indian guy with spectacles(Mumbai short Indian Guy) is ridiculous and misbehaves with customers. He cheats customers. I don't like the management too they are in assumption of providing good service to customers. Its a very bad restaurant and food was very dry and seems, it was a week back food. They are like disgusting i'd love to go Ann Arbour/Detroit to eat indian food rather spoiling health eating in Persis Indian Grill. The management serves old and dry food to Americans because they don't know how the indian food would be. So, this is the strategy Persis people follows for Americans.
