Really delicious authentic South Indian curries in their yummy lunch buffet! Like you never see eggplant curry or ladies finger poriyal at other buffets. Sometimes the curry can be a little oily but not the kind that makes you feel dirty all down your gullet. Other than that all the spices and flavours blend together for a really super meal. Authentic Indian food at a reasonable price. Good quality, okay service. I ordered the kheema (ground goat) masala (curry) as an entree and it was very close to the taste one gets in India. For appetizers, I ordered the Indo-Chinese version of vegetable manchurian (veggie bites kind of a dumpling) and it was spicy but tasty. The garlic naan was good too. Others who dined with me ordered vegetarian entrees and when I asked them about their food, they had no regrets. Employees had no clue what was on their buffet menu. Although the food it tasty, it's overpriced. The reason for my low rating is because I went to Persi's with a woman. The entire meal our waiter did not acknowledge her requests for more water or other minor requests. At one point, she ordered an appetizer and he asked me if I wanted something and I declined. Because I declined, he decided that her order was cancelled. As if I order for my girlfriend? I seriously think the cultural differences here play a very negative role in the customer experience. In my opinion, the curries were really bland and the flavors didn't blend nicely. Maybe they didn't let the sauces cook for long to get all the spices to sink in and mesh. The rice also tasted moldy and I couldn't eat it. Simosas were good, but you can't go wrong with simosas. I'm very picky about my Indian food, because if I wasn't, I'd make it at home. This place is awesome, excellent Indian food and a great lunch buffet. I'm very happy to have found it here and have been coming regularly. I recommend it highly for delicious Indian cuisine. A few very minor annoyances/constructive criticism: 1. Turn the music down. The speakers are tinny and grating. I don't mind the Indian music, but last time or two I've been in it's too shrill and detracts from my enjoyment. Lower volume would be better. 2. Turn the temp up! This seems to be a common problem with restaurants like this in the summer, but the A/C is just up too high and it's rather chilly. I appreciate the A/C but it's a little much. Other than that, this place is really great. Tasty, delicious food, a pleasant interior, guest wifi, booths and tinted windows offer a nice relaxing atmosphere. Friendly staff. Worst staff I have ever seen in the States. I have been to several Indian restaurants all over the country, but at Persis there is a general arrogance among the waiting staff, especially towards their Indian customers. They are rude, mean, and condescending; especially this manager with spectacles. This one Indian customer had dropped something under the chair and couldn't get it out, and was treated like a second-grade customer by this manager; as if the customer was an idiot who just chose to drop something valuable. The tone he talked with sounded quite insulting. Even though the customer was nothing but polite. The other waiters ogled the ladies on our table every time they passed by. We also felt that they make fun of customers in their regional language. I cannot care about the food if the staff is so condescending. I've since been in to this place 6 or 7 times, and in general the food has tasted good, with the exception of one time when I think I hit the buffet a little late on an off day and it was kind of meh. Service has generally been good too; take out orders are ready at or before they say they will be, drinks are refilled, and on one occasion when I walked in and placed a take out order the waiter made a point of getting me a glass of water while I waited. My real issue, and the one that has me lowering my rating as well as thinking I may not be back when I'm in the mood for certain dishes is that twice now I've gotten fragments of bone in chicken dishes, as well as gristle. Someone in the kitchen is being careless and just hacking things apart. I don't mind bone in food, but in those cases I expect the bone to be big enough to pick out; these pieces range from centimeter long pieces of rib to half a square centimeter pieces to some that are only a couple of millimeters on a side. Having to spit out multiple mouthfuls of food after crunching down on bone kind of ruins a meal and has you not sure you want to eat the leftovers. read more

I stopped in for the lunch buffet. There was a wide selection of food. I would like to highlight the naan, chicken curry, and tandoori chicken. You MUST get those three items if you visit. I also liked the warm decor and the cricket game that was playing on their TV. This was a refreshing change from the usual Indian music videos that they play. This was my first time here with the bf. my bf's colleague recommended this place. So we decided to try it out. We've been to most of the Indian restaurants in east lansing which are pretty good so Persis definitely had to earn these stars. We first ordered the chili paneer which was really good. The boyfriend really liked it. We also ordered a mango lassi, butter chicken, and chicken vindaloo. The mango lassi was great! Usually when I order this at other restaurants I only get a small cup but here you get a big glass full! Butter chicken was probably the best butter chicken I've had. The chicken vindaloo was also very good but I wouldn't say the best. We also ordered garlic naan and butter naan which were just okay. They were very different more crunchy than soft which I don't really like and also a little burnt. But all in all this place is pretty good and you get a whole lot more food than typical Indian places. read more

Just got takeout from here for the second time. No complaints. Love the lamb stuffed naan. It's decently priced.

First of all, I will say much of the food was not too bad. My wife had chicken tikka masala and my daughter had chicken in butter sauce that were both pretty tasty. The naan and aloo paratha was very good, though bread is a basic no-brainer. The chicken biryani I had was fairly bland and dry, truly not the "specialty" they claimed. The hard-boiled egg in the corner of the dish was really good. The service is the worst I've experienced in a long time, which includes the rarely-visited fast food establishments. I thought the Indian people in the shorts and t-shirts were other customers hanging out in the restaurant until they finally acknowledged us and took us to a booth. Ten minutes later, another badly dressed man who seemed confused as to what he was supposed to do took our order. We had to remind him that we needed drinks as well. Then he joined the rest of the staff leaning on the counter and ignoring everyone in general. I finally signaled to the one person that looked around, and he was indignant when I asked him about the drinks, as if I dared disturb his good times. He brought the order of lemonade and water, but my Kingfisher beer was another 3-4 minutes making it to the table. Was I being punished? Hmmm. I could go on, but you get the idea. Hoping to get a tasty dinner based on my earlier visit, I went for dinner last night. I ordered the grilled platter for appetizer. Malai kabob was OK and so was chicken tikka. The tandoori chicken was bad. Shish kabob was bad and under cooked. Cheap ground chicken with some spices I guess. I could not eat and half was left for the garbage bin. Worst, I got a sore throat within 7 hours after eating here. I will call the city to inspect their kitchen and food handling. The waitress looked depressed. She needs to learn to smile I got the impression that this place is owned by a person with a full time job else where. I got a message from the owner after my above review. He said he would have corrected the issue if I would have let him know. I am willing to consider it as an honest mistake and give this place another try if time permits on my next visit to Lansing. read more

If you go to an Indian buffet in Okemos, please do not complain that it is not "authentic". You cannot put the amount of spices in it to make it authentic and still have it appeal to the buffet crowd. I personally have never had the lunch buffet here, but I have been to many other Indian buffets that "tone it down" for the masses. I can say that ordering off of the menu has proven to be a grand experience a couple of times now. That is, as far as the food goes. The spicy dishes are VERY spicy! I am a spicy food "champion", but this place usually makes me want to put the TP in the freezer! The creamy curries are amazing, and probably fat and calorie laden as well! I haven't had much here that I didn't like. There was this one appetitizer that really left a bad impression, some kind of peanut plate. Blea! Please forgive me if I cannot identify the dishes for you, I cannot pronounce or spell much of the menu. That brings us to the service, like many other reviewers had mentioned; it's pretty dang bad! I guess I never really noticed how long it takes for service, I have always went there with good friends who keep my wife and I occupied with conversation. However, it does take much longer than necessary to get service during times when there are hardly any customers. The employees do seem to just sit around and chitchat like you may see at a poorly run diner or fast food joint. Me buddy accidentally dropped and broke a glass (because his hands are large and doughy). After a while an incoherent looking Asian man came by to spread the water around with a broom, after I had picked up all the glass shards! We about fell on our butts when we finally left an hour and a half later! Last but not least, something worth mentioning. The fellow who brought us our bill made it a point to let us know that any tips left on a credit card would be kept by the owner. He said if we wanted the waitstaff to receive the tip that it had to be cash. Kinda shady if you ask me! But it might explain the lousy service. To sum things up; food is awesome, you will likely get fiery diarrhea, and you will get shoddy service. Only Indian restaurant that won't let you order papadam for take out. Put it on the menu so we can order and pay for it. Weirdest policy. I have called and asked to pay for it with my take out meal. They said "no we don't do that." I asked to pay for it. "No" what!? Finally they said "ok we will give it to you", but when we picked up food they gave one tiny piece and were not very kind about it! It's unassuming in atmosphere but the food is delicious and the people who work there are very kind. I have three small kids and they are accommodating to us. They never charge us for the little kiddos. Plus the kids always manage to find something they like to eat. My personal favorite is the paneer makhani. I've been to Persis only twice within the last year or so. The buffet is definitely spicier compared to Sindhu's. Given I usually only go to Sindhu's for Friday buffet, Persis on Sunday has a wide variety of foods. They had Pav bhaji set up with condiments and chutneys. Separate stations for yogurt rice, pickles, vegetables, and a main buffet. In a way the multiple station set-up is confusing and leads to some disorganization. All in all, the food is really good and worth the buffet price. read more

What can I say....best Indian I've had out of the three I've tried while working in Lansing. And the Indian locals seem to know that too judging by the number of them eating there this Sunday afternoon. Perhaps it's the very seemingly authentic (I say seemingly because I've never been to India like most of the people who make reviews about ethnic food and say "it's very authentic") fare offered on the buffet...quite a few items I handy seen before...not you're typical items as seen on most Indian buffets that cater mostly to the average non Indian customer. This restaurant deleted my review which makes me more pissed. Here is the truth. First, coming into the restaurant, the waiters serve us a table, which is good. When it's time to order, everything went down hill. When we order our food, it took almost an hour to get it. They were paying more attention to another big party than the rest of the restaurant. When we got our food, the waiter slipped and fell twice and dropping our naan bread on the cold, unfortunate floor. Towards the end of the meal, my friend still didn't get his main entree. We wanted spicy food, and when he finally got the butter chicken there was no spice. I would recommend going to another restaurant if you are picky about food because this is the worst Indian food I've ever had. The atmosphere in this restaurant is horrid, and if you enjoy crying children, confused servers, and booths next to you complaining about the same situation you've unfortunately stuck in with bad service, then please swing by.I know mass disorder and customer hysteria is perfect for a lovely night out.
