He helped me very painstakingly find the exact pair of regular glasses and sunglasses. I am thrilled with these glasses and wear them with great enjoyment. David provides amazing explanations on a wide variety of eye related topics from dry eye challenges to why Polaroid lenses are absolutely essential. His introducing me to tea tree eye wipes helped a lot. And probably the most important of all is his painstaking patience in adjusting my frames to enjoy maximum comfort. I contacted my health care insurance company and was given the name of PerSpectacles as a place I could get my prescription filled for eye glasses. On June 9 I went in with my prescription. It came from a facility that I had been going to for over 30 years. I order glasses with a progressive transition lens from the owner David. He billed my insurance company $250.00 and I paid out of pocket $376.00. Approx. 2 weeks later I received a call to pick them up. I went outside to check the transitions and found that I was squinting under the lenses. I went back and advised him they were not going to work as transitions. His comment no problem. When I tried the glasses to see if I could read from them the print was blurry. I advised him of this and requested my money back. He demanded that you need to take these glasses back to your doctor and request another refraction because your refraction is wrong. I inspected them based on your prescription. I advised him I did not want to go back to my eye doctor because of possibly additional charges for a 2nd refraction. He demanded that I take glasses with me and get another refraction. I advised him I was not happy. He was extremely rude. I contact my insurance company and filed a complaint that day. Approximately 10 days later I received a call from the optician that works out of his office and he wanted to know how I liked my glasses. What a silly question, David knew I wanted to return my glasses and demanded I take the glasses with me and have another refraction. He also said the same thing go back to your eye doctor and get another refraction because he inspected the lenses. He asked me "What is it that you want"? Again I said I want my money back, I do not want to do business with you. Through the next 60 days I went back and forth with my insurance company filing paperwork, spending hours on the phone with different supervisors, faxing information to them. I advised them I want no contact with this man because of his rudeness. The insurance company contacted him numerous times with no result of him returning my money. I even went back to my eye doctor and got another refraction. There was a small charge for it. After inspecting the glasses by my eye doctor I was told the PAL markings for the progressive lens were marked incorrectly. He was the one that marked the glasses. After hours of speaking with my insurance company I asked if they would place a conference call so I could hear why he wasn't willing to return my money. We were told he was not in that day and a message was left with Linda for him to call me directly. Waited 5 days and no call from him. A few days later I took someone with me with the glasses in hand and asked for my money back. He asked for my credit card, ran it through his credit card machine and he said the card wouldn't go through. His comment, the machine has been down since yesterday and he was expecting it to come back up that day from what his internet provider advised him of. I asked if he could write me a check, his comment was I need to return the money back to you by the way you paid due to his bookkeeping system. I asked him to call me when it was working and provided my phone number to him again, after 4 days of waiting and still no call I had enough. I went back in with the glasses a 2nd time and he said he left me a voice mail yesterday and I advised I never receive it. This man had so many excuses I didn't believe anything he said at this point. He ran my credit card that day and this time he said it went through. You can imagine how skeptical I was but the money of $376.00 was finally deposited into my account on Aug. 13th. What a nightmare I went through starting on June 9th and ending on Aug 13th when the money was finally deposited into my bank. I can't believe the energy and time that I spend trying to resolve this issue with him. He definitely is lacking in customer services skills when it comes to resolving consumer complaints. Consumers please look at his reviews. I looked at his reviews before I initially went with him because he had good reviews but I wasn't paying attention to the date of the reviews. A good portion of his reviews are years old. Please beware of his sales tactics, if you have issues with your glasses you may have a very bumpy road ahead of you! I wish you the best! read more

I went in December to get glasses for myself. David was very informative and made sure that everything was how I wanted. There were so many cute options for the frames, that I had a hard time choosing but David's wife gave me some good advice and options! I liked it enough that I brought my parents with a groupon and they were also very satisfied with their experience. They gave my dad indestructible frame options because of his work but he ended up getting some that he thought were more stylish. When the glasses came, we were called and David made sure they fit absolutely perfect on us. He then did a follow up call to make sure everything was still fine. Fabulous place! As soon as I walked in to the boutique, I was greeted with a warm welcome and handshake from David, the owner and Licensed Dispensing Optician. David was able to use his many years of experience to help me choose a great pair of frames that fit my head and face perfectly. All of the options for the lenses (material, coatings, transitions, etc) were thoroughly explained, and I never felt the high pressure sales gimmicks so often found at other eyeglass retailers. The price list is openly available on the display tables, so there is a feeling of transparency with pricing, and there are no surprises. I used a Groupon, and was able to get $125 off my frames. David even took the time to adjust and fit my wife's new glasses (which were purchased elsewhere, at a nationwide optical chain) at no charge! I was examined by the friendly and knowledgeable independent optometrist, Dr. Castro, right at my scheduled appointment time, and I was given a handy laminated wallet card with my name and prescription written on it. In all my years of wearing corrective lenses, I have never been given a card like that. It's that type of personal attention and consideration that make PerSpectacles really stand out from the crowd. I cannot say enough great things about this place. This will be the only place I get glasses from. I decided to check this place out when I found a groupon. Walking into the store, the staff was friendly and very helpful. They listened to all my concerns about having bad eyesight but needing polycarb lenses (its rare to get glasses with my prescription in polycarb). After ordering frames David told me that if anything happened to come back in and he would take care of me. A few months later the paint started to chip on the frames and before I could get into the store the lens popped right out of my left eye! I called the store and David asked me to come in and we could replace them. I dropped off my glasses and a few days later David called and said that unfortunately the company that he ordered my frames from had filed for bankruptcy and it could take awhile. He offered to switch the glasses out with a different color and if I didn't like the color that we would just pick out a different pair of glasses in the same price range. Unheard of with most eye glass places. As a graduate student I'm on a tight budget with a groupon I was able to get a wonderful pair of glasses and I am confident if anything happened David would take care of me. Great selection, awesome Customer Service. All in all, what I dreamed about but did not expect. My past experiences with eyeglass selections consisted of Sears, Lesco Optical and Wallyworld. Suffice it to say, not very satisfying on the whole process, but cheap enough. Upon entering the store I was greeted immediately and after a small chat, left to browse around. Very nice not to have a shadow while I was trying on frames. I found a pair of Hacketts that called my name. It was like one of those moments you hear about concerning sighting "The One" for the first time.....you know...angels singing and all that jazz.... Eye exam was great and painless. I asked tons of questions and all were answered satisfactorily. Interesting to note my scrip had changed quite a bit in two and a half years. I was able to read all the lines on the eye chart when we were done! My last eye examiner told me to get as close as possible but not to expect perfection. This guy let me get eagle vision! Wow, what a difference! I can read a street sign 2 blocks away but still read a menu comfortably. The actual checkout was painless. The owner was so nice and he personally fitted the frames to my head. I am particular about not having crooked or off center glasses. I see so many people with slightly askew frames or glasses too high or low on the nose bridge. Mine look great! The prices were a little higher than what I previously paid but the look was killer. I opted for transition lenses for that dreaded AZ sun and the anti scratch coat. I know for a fact that he is cheaper on the designer lines he carries than other walk-in stores. I checked around and looked online also. He will let you bring in frames where you had paid too much and get new lenses cheaper than the place you overpaid at the first time. In short, if he carries the line, he will service you glasses, even if you bought elsewhere. Very Nice! I consider myself a new and long term customer!!! read more

Over-priced and terrible customer service. The owner acts as if he is doing you a favor by taking your business. My daughter was used to wearing very good, anti glare lenses and he made her cheap plastic lenses, and told me she's just a kid, she won't know any better. Then charged me to remake them with the correct lenses (just like the glasses we brought to him and showed him to start with). When I called to get her prescription a few months later to bring elsewhere for another pair, he said he was too busy to pull it for me and would get back to me, and when I stopped by the store shortly after, I was told he didn't have it on file and wasn't required to keep it and I would have to wait until the following week to get it from the Optometrist file, which was located in his office. (He was just sitting there, not busy). On the other glasses ordered for another family member, the fields of vision for the progressives were positioned all wrong as Tried to give our business to a local independent but obviously we chose the wrong one. To the response of the business, we never received a copy of our daughter's Rx and it shouldn't be considered a gift since we paid for it. To be told you were too busy to help me and then to walk in the store to find you actually not busy at all was just insulting and poor customer service. A complaint was made about the progressives field of vision but was told they take getting used to and not until another eyeglass store inspected the glasses did we know the field of vision was off. Again, poor customer service and over-priced. And the response reminded me of the condescending attitude as well Not only is it unprofessional for you to use our family's last name, it probably violates HIPPA regulations. read more

Sitting here waiting for the eye doc who is not on time for my 2pm appointment. The guy who checked me in said he was at lunch. It is now 2:10pm and another lady told me he ha a car accident and had to get another rental car and he will be 15 more minutes late. I'm with two kids ages 3&4 and I specifically asked for a morning appointment time so they wouldn't be with me but this doctor who I saw previously has to do my checkup and he was only available today. I had a follow up scheduled back in July but they cancelled it because the doc had issues with his family. After being HOUNDED about being on time for my appointment I'm sitting here (arriving 5 minutes early) and the doc is late. I have not been happy with this place since I first stepped in. I had my first eye exam in a long while here. The Dr was so gentle and kind. When he put me in front of his eye machine and gave me 20/20 vision I broke out in tears! I had not seen clear for a very long time, it was overwhelming! There was a really handsome man who fit me for my glasses , (it's probably why I cant remember his name 8) ). He made me feel like I was his only customer even though I was not the only person there. My experience at Per Spectacles was great. If you make an eyeglass purchase from Perspectacles you better hope they get the lenses right the first time. David seems to believe he is infallible; if the lenses are not made correctly for your vision, QUOTE, "I DID THE MEASUREMENTS SO I KNOW THEY ARE RIGHT", he refuses to send them back for any correction without a new prescription (which, of course, comes from the eye doctors in his employ). He will happily try to charge you for more eye exams in your effort to get your lenses corrected so you can actually see out of them properly. read more

To preface this, I have been going to Per Spectacles since they were in their original Ahwatukee location on Warner road, so thats about 16 years. The service in the past was already ok to good, so I kept going. For the past 2 years its terrible and the owner's attitude is deplorable. For example, I always get contacts and update my glasses. No issues whatsover with the contacts. Last year when they make my lenses some wierd star pattern kept appearing in the lens every time I went to pick it up. This happened three times. David makes an excuse each time. Finally on the 3rd time, he admits there was something going wrong in the process of cutting the lens. Whew, that issue done, however, the left lens had a scratch in it. So now the 4th time making my lenses I go to to pick them up. As Im leaving, David looks at me and goes make sure to put your glasses in the case, dont want any scratches. This was as if to accuse me of scratching my lens the prior time. Now onto this year. I update my lenses again. This time they are perfect, no scratches, nothing. I get back to my car and look at my frames and notice the screw is not totally screwed down. I bring them right back in. David looks at me and goes, not sure how that could have happened to get the wrong screw in there. Turns out now the screw hole is stripped because they tried to fit a larger screw in there. For a customer who has been going to someplace for 16 years and experiences major problems the prior year, dont you think they would do something to make this current situation correct? I ask, I think you should give me a new frame. I didnt cause this issue. The owner sarcastically laughs and goes, Ill give you a discount NO THANKS. Never, will not go back. The old saying goes, fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. After 16 years you have lost a valued customer. Adios Per Spectactles. read more

The optician here was not friendly and spent a lot of time trying to "upsell" me on both the exam and the products. The staff seemed too busy to greet me, though I was the only customer in the store and they failed to call me back as scheduled. I ultimately went to a different eye doctor who said my diagnosis was incorrect and most likely was given because they would make more money off of the products they were selling me. Avoid this place if at all possible. I am not an ex-employee. I am, however, an ex-customer. I'm sorry you (below) disagree with my review, but that was my experience. I provide reviews for service I like and service I don't, that's just the impression your store gave me. read more

This was my first eye exam in about 6 or 7 years. I chose per spectacles because I live right across the street from it. I was extremely impressed by the service. Dave was so friendly and extremely helpful when recommending frames for my face type. The optometrist was very helpful and I look forward to finally being able to see! Wow! I'm so glad that the owner made a public response. To publicly state that you are "glad a potential customer didn't shop at your establishment", over a disagreement about a Living Social deal, speaks volumes about the culture that you are building with your company. Also, to try and attack my character and ethics on other reviews I've posted, is completely uncalled for. I apologize if I wrote anything to offend you, but what I wrote in my review was the honest truth. I stated that your prices were drastically different that other competitors around town-- this is nothing new to consumers. Usually, the price discrepancy is coupled with a higher level of customer service, to make your offerings more "valuable" to the consumer-- from your response, this is clearly NOT the case. Over priced frames. Terrible customer service! I took my Mom here for Mother's Day as all she wanted was an eye exam and a pair of glasses. My Mom was visiting from Seattle and the exam went really well with the doctor but down hill after that. My Mom and I were assured if she spent $800 on a pair of glasses delivering them and adjusting them as needed was no problem. So...we spent the $800 and the glasses DO NOT work at all. David recommended she purchase a second pair for reading and he would adjust the first pair for everything else. REALLY??? She has since sent them back and he refused the package. $800 and no glasses 3 months later. It makes me sick. read more

David and his assistant Debra were both extremely helpful in helping me choose the best frames for my needs...and they helped me select the pair that looked the best on me..something I always have a hard time doing. If you want to be overcharged for frames (300+% in our case) then this is the place. I know business is tough in Phoenix in the summer but come on. We had been customers for years, following Dr. Castro from a previous location, so it was really disheartening when we discovered the extent of the markup.
