I sent him photos for our quote since he said that would be all he needed. This was on 11/30. I never heard from him again despite calling, texting, and reaching out thru Yelp. It's very disappointing but I guess it's to be expected when someone is already difficult to reach at the onset. In any case finding a reputable contractor who is reliable and response is key in any project. If you have someone that doesn't respond or reply its red flags for sure. Update: Thanks for responding, Dan. Your reply actually proves my point. For the record, I never asked you to help with anything "fake." I asked for a quote -- the one you said you could give based on photos -- and then you stopped responding. That's all this was about. If you simply told me this project was not for you that would have been the end of it. You ghosting and then responding to me on Yelp in such an unprofessional manner is what is crazy. Calling the situation "fake" also shows a misunderstanding of California property law. Tree-root damage to a shared wall is a real, common issue here, and nothing I described was unusual. Your decision to jump to insults is exactly why I warned others about your lack of basic communication and professionalism.

During our home renovation/addition, we've worked with many different types of contractors. This…read moreincluded our General Contractor who helped with our home addition and interior renovation, to the "smaller" jobs, such as those who installed our tankless water heater, built our outdoor shed, or installed our frameless shower doors to name a few. However, I have to say of all the contractors we worked with, Laurance Lee has been by far the easiest and most reliable. Laurance's crew is small (only 3 others), but they work extremely hard and are efficient and reliable. They always arrived around 8am and it wasn't uncommon for them to continue working well past 5pm to finish the day's job. Our renovation was quite extensive, so it took them around 1.5 months, but it was so easy working with him that time really flew by quickly. The extent of his work included included new concrete throughout, irrigation, new sod everywhere, playground area mulch, planter mulch, river rocks, a new firepit, and more. Also, his prices were by far the best compared to other experienced landscapers. You might get some really low-ball quotes, but we didn't really entertain those as most were from very inexperienced contractors. Anyway, some of the things I liked most about Laurance is that he showed up everyday, and usually stayed all day to monitor the work and progress. This isn't always the case with many contractors as most will only stay part of the time. He also really brought a wealth of knowledge and design ideas that we hadn't thought about. This also isn't the case with most contractors as many will just do what you tell them, rather than work with you to give you ideas even though it'll end up more costly on their end. That really was something we appreciated and showed he cared about his work. I can't recommend him enough. If you're looking for a great landscaper, you won't go wrong working with Laurance.

Our front and backyard started out as a complete mess with broken irrigation, inadequate drainage,…read moreseveral buried pieces of bad concrete paving which had to be removed, and less than ideal soil. I sought out estimates from 4 other landscapers and only 3 would return my call and come out for an estimate. They all quoted prices twice what I ended up paying at Lee Associates and these other landscapers had 2-3 week work timetables. The owner Lee came out for an estimate and offered a very reasonable price and gave a detailed estimate outlining labor and specific design plans. Their time table was also a very short and amazing 5-6 days, with the exception of rainy days, sundays, and New Years. The owner Lee took an active hand at supervising his crew and helped with the labor at times making sure everything was done perfectly. Our front and back lawn looks very nice now and every single promise made in the beginning was fulfilled which included new irrigation, automatic sprinklers, sod, concrete removal, and building a low brick wall. I was surprised by how meticulous the work detail was and their entire crew put in a full 9 hours a day of hard work. I would definitely recommend these guys especially if you have a big landscape project that needs to be completed from scratch.

However, when I first met Mr. Lee and started discussing the project, I just knew that he was the one to hire due to his confidence and expertise in his field. I felt a strong sense that he wasn't out to get me, but rather to honestly help me and rebuild the wall with budget in mind. I chose Lee's over two other previous bids, and I am very glad I did. On day one of the demolition phase, foreman Augustine and his awesome crew just blew my mind at how efficient, precise and hard working they were. Needless to say, I was extremely impressed and felt at ease, knowing that I was definitely in good hands. Within a week, I had a beautiful brand new retaining wall built better than ever. Equally impressive was Joyce at the office making sure I was never left hanging with questions or concerns. All my queries were handled in a timely manner. For anyone looking for concrete/brick contractor, I highly recommend Lee's Concrete.

This was my very first time hiring anybody to do any sort of landscaping work. I was ignorant going…read moreinto it so I had to lean heavily into the landscapers expertise on what would be best for what I wanted to achieve. After getting a few quotes, I chose Lee's Concrete because he impressed me the most with the ideas he presented, not being pushy or sales-y, while also staying competitive price wise. He is also officially licensed for concrete. The project started around May 2025, and completed towards the end of July 2025. It consisted of concrete pouring, artificial turf installation, irrigation routing and laying out gravel/river rocks in planting areas. Also, a 2D layout diagram was provided for me to submit to HOA for approval. Below is a list of critiques ranked starting with my biggest letdowns: #1) WEEDS. Not via the concrete, but the artificial turf that was laid out. Lee offered artificial turf installs during my contractor search. My main reason for getting artificial turf was to have little-to-no maintenance. But, mines constantly has weeds growing out of the edges due the gap in the ends not being sealed. My next door neighbor had artificial turf installed by another landscaper and never has any weeds growing out of the edges ever. They had theirs installed after mine. Maybe it was my fault for not communicating that need initially. But at the same time, I thought having artificial turf laid out and it preventing weed growth on the edges would be a given. #2) Blotchy concrete coloring on front yard. My backyard's concrete coloring was pretty consistent and I was very happy with how it turned out. But my front yard was very blotchy and inconsistent. I was told that this is normal and will take about a year to cure and to give it time. Another reason was for differing "pH levels" for the area where the concrete was laid. Well... a year has passed and it has kind of improved here and there, but not so much in other parts. So, I'm a little hesitant to believe it that is actually the reason. It doesn't make sense to me that all the concrete laid out in my entire neighborhood doesn't look as bad as how it looks on my driveway. Structurally, it's fine. But it is a bit of an eye-sore looking at it every time I'm in my front yard. #3) I felt like I spent more time than I needed to checking for imperfections. A main one was my vinyl fence and cinder block wall getting dirty from the concrete pours. Another big one was the cinder block retaining wall in my backyard not being symmetrical on the edges. I had to call it out a few times to even get it fixed. Once it was finally fixed, my vinyl fence had residue from the cinderblock wall fix. By that time, I had gotten fatigue from having to constantly call out imperfections and let that one go. #4) You don't really know when the landscapers will come out to do the work. If I remember correctly, they would come out most weekdays. But, you wouldn't know if they would show up the next day or not. Not too big of a deal honestly. I'm more picky about this because I like to keep the side gate to my backyard locked and not knowing when to unlock it in the morning was just a tiny annoyance. I ended up just unlocking it first thing in the morning and locking it in the evening every weekday. Overall, I'd rate the project a 3 or 3.5 out of 5 - which I think is a very fair assessment. I'm relatively happy how it looks at the end. But there were a few bumps along the way which is why I cannot give a 5 out of 5. It pains me to write the above critiques and not be able to give the highest rating because Lee and the rest of his team were all very nice people. But there definitely could've have been improvements for the entire project.

We had Jeff and his crew demo pretty much everything in our backyard, besides our pool and the retaining walls that he had previously constructed. Jeff coordinated with our pool remodeling company to work around their schedule following the demo work, and he did some grading, installed new pavers, and built us a new BBQ / kitchen peninsula as well. Jeff was great to work with, always communicated well, and the finished product was outstanding! We would highly recommend Jeff for any hardscape / masonry work and we plan to go with him again in the future when we save up to do some work on our side and front yards!

Steve and his team took an existing landscape design I had and improved upon it…read more He identified plants which would grow too large for our space, or require more maintenance than we had originally thought, and swapped them out for similar species that would be a better fit. Steve was super patient waiting nearly a month for our HOA to approve our plans, and once approved, was able to start immediately. He and his team wrapped up on-time, and on-budget. Originally, the estimate included a new sprinkler controller. I was able to get the controller free of charge from a SoCal municipal water district program, and there was no problem modifying the estimate after the fact. In fact, Steve installed the controller and helped ensure it was programmed correctly. Things look great, and I've already recommended him to a friend down the street.

I would like to start this review off by explaining that I researched what i needed and reputable…read morecompanies extensively prior to starting my backyard project.  I also had 4 bids and input  from 4 companies to compare, and input from an arborist.  The arborist is the one that recommended California Custom Landscaping to me because he said they do the best he's ever seen, and has not seen any issues with the work in later years.  Henry from California Landscaping was, by far, the most knowledgeable and the most professional of the contractors I met with.  He had ideas and suggestions that demonstrated he had extensive experience, and helped me find solutions to some difficult issues that would ensure my project is both long lasting and affordable.  His pricing was not the highest bid, but was on the higher end, but after completion of the project, I understood why.  He has a good size crew, they were all very knowledgeable, they were very thorough and did a very professional job, and brought in a lot of specialized equipment (I mention the equipment because I have had other jobs and seen jobs that do not have that).  I my project included demolition of old concrete, electrical work, a concrete brick retaining wall, concrete pour wall, concrete pour, installation of my plants, and installation of a drip system. I genuinely had no concerns or complaints with the entire process, so I wanted to list off the things I noticed that I appreciated: - Every crew member was professional, polite, and many went the extra mile to make me happy.  They always offered to do little extra things to help me out, even though they weren't part of their duties.  - The foreman made sure to ask questions along the way to ensure I was happy with choices being made.  This was very important to me because I had a project in the past where decisions were made without checking with me, and work had to be redone.  - The workers cleaned up after themselves thoroughly after each day, and left materials and tools organized nicely.  They always swept, cleaned, or blowed the area, so there were no messes.  - The workers seem to be treated really well and their time was respected.  I appreciated that I saw them taking regular scheduled lunch breaks and leaving at the same time each day.  When Henry wanted to schedule work on the weekend, he emphasized that he needed to respect their weekends, ask permission, and give them plenty of notice. -Everything was very timely.  They came when they said they would, arrived on time, let me know what days they would not be working, and completed the project pretty quickly.   -Henry would regularly check in, make sure I was happy, and answer my questions.  He also communicates/responds to emails calls and texts in a timely manner. There were a few great things included in the project that i didn't even realize. - The work they did was beautiful! I couldn't be happier with how my back yard turned out.  I've had to clean up neighbors debris from their trees and hose it down, and it cleans up easily and drains well. I would definitely recommend California Custom Landscaping, and plan to have them come back to help me with a few future projects.
