I would like to recommend Ivan's Masonry for your outdoor improvement projects if you are looking for outstanding craftsmanship and value for your money. We hired Ivan's Masonry for two jobs: driveway renovation and a new stairway with walkway. From onset it was a long journey for us figuring out what material we will be comfortable with. Ivan patiently consulted us on every available material: concrete, stamping, coloring, and many styles from different providers of concrete pavers. None really resonated with our vision. After a month of research we ended up selecting clay pavers for their traditional look and lasting quality. The problem was that no contractor in our area would even consider working with clay pavers. Initially Ivan also refused but with some prodding he actually agreed to install clay pavers and did an amazing job. The team would start consistently punctually at 7 am and worked full days. Ivan, the owner, would work on the job 100%, including operating the equipment and setting the pavers. The site was kept reasonably clean and the process was well organized. We love the results. Our house became the model for the street as a first house with pavers. Many people complimented on the improvements and expressed the desire to contract with Ivan's Masonry. I was looking to see how much it would cost to enclose my entire front yard with split face concrete, about 80 linear feet. I got quotes from several companies. Ivan was very detailed, asked a lot of questions to make sure he understood what we wanted and offered excellent suggestions that showcased his expertise. His quote came out thousands less than everyone else, which was amazing. If I had all of the funds for the project at the time, I would have hired him, however, because of my circumstances, I needed a fence right away, so I had a company put up a vinyl fence. I called for an estimate, we setup an appointment twice and he stood me up twice! First called on Wednesday, he said he would contact me later to schedule an appointment. Then Friday afternoon, he texted me saying that he would stop by Saturday afternoon. When asked for an approximate time, he couldn't give me one because he had to first finishing a concrete job so it had to be late afternoon. While many people are complaining about a long "delivery window" when waiting for deliveries, I have no "window" at all. But I thought that's ok, I could work with that. So I stayed home the whole day. Granted I didn't have anything special planned for that day, but there is just that sense of waiting and expecting that leaves one hanging for the whole afternoon not knowing exactly when he would be coming over. Yet I waited until around 6:30pm and he called me without even a "sorry" and said that he had to reschedule it to the next morning. I was disappointed but still being very lenient. I didn't complain and agreed to reschedule. He said it had to be early in the morning. I hesitated because I have sleeping problems lately and I sleep late, so I wake up late, especially on weekends. I also clearly told him that. But I thought I would accommodate so we agreed to meet at 9:00 am Sunday morning. This morning I dragged myself off the bed at 8:30am getting ready for the appointment and lo and behold I received a text from him at 8:40 am saying that he, once again, couldn't make it because his wife had to leave in the morning and he had to stay with the kids. I'm a parent so I understand the whole kid watching thing. But I also know that when you make an appointment with someone, you try your best to keep it, especially that someone is a potential customer and you'd already stood her up once! He did asked in the text to reschedule it to the next week but at this point I'm done. It just seems like he puts everything else in his life ahead of a potential customer. And as a potential paying customer, I had to accommodate to his changing schedule. Hmmm, something is off here. The two stars are for him actually calling me back (the other masonry guy I called didn't even bother to get back to me, I guess it's good business). However, at this point, I really think that setting up appointments and not keeping them is even worse than not calling back at all! read more
