Very quaint, very small very old-school place that probably goes back to the 40s. The smell from the exhaust of the food is very strong. The people were very nice. The cook actually made my food and handed it to us over the counter, so my boyfriend had to get up and get it, which was no big deal because she was so lovely but the waitress never came back for us. Never asked if we were OK, never acknowledged that I wanted my order changed and so she didn't get a good tip. my eggs Benedict were delicious but a little overcooked and she gave me a lot of sauce like I requested ordered fries and Vinny ordered hashbrowns but they mistakenly gave him fries as well. No one came by to pick up the check so he had to go up to the register and pay for it.. He was actually handed the check by the cook. read more

Great people and amazing food! I'd suggest always ordering something with "around it"! "Big boy" and "country omelet" were so, so, so good! My favorite out of the two was the omelet it had gravy on top of an omelet with sausage and homefries in the eggs. The place was super busy and the staff was friendly and made you feel like family. When we walked in we were told of we don't see something on the menu and they have the items they would make it for us!! You just took me back in time. This diner is actually a old railroad car. From the moment you walk in the door you can smell nothing but home cooking. Our waitress not only took our food order, but also cooked ours and 4 other tables in front of our eyes behind the counter. The structure of the place from the outside does not at all indicate the time capsule you are about to meet inside. It's a shame you have to go through a dirty passage room to enter. The place itself is charming, the service is great and old-fashioned. Me and my wife stopped in for lunch and were greater by Renée. She was a joy to speak with and greater us as if we were family. We have visited the diner on numerous occasions and the staff is always pleasant but I always like to be served by Renée. For all people 62 and over the diner offers about 8 senior citizens specials. What a wonderful little place. Everyone had a smile and the regulars helped clean up after themselves. While on our vacation we ate there three times and I am so happy we did. I love chipped beef on toast and have never seen it at any restaurant EVER! Made my days! Picture an early 1900's train car in your head - now paint it yellow. Thats what this diner is. It looks like it has been built onto on the back - but pretty much its a Big railroad car converted into a diner. They seem to have amazing breakfast. I have been there many many times for breakfast. And they have a regular crowd - mostly retired people that seem to be there every day or at least very often. The coffee is quite good. The omelette's are tasty. They have fantastic french toast, pancakes, and waffles. For a buck or two extra you can get real maple syrup on said carbohydrate delicacies. Probably my fav thing to do there is get a stack of pancakes with some eggs over easy on top and then real maple syrup on top of that. In the summer business booms here because of the summer people around the lake. In the winter its mostly there morning regulars and then a big lunch crowd that literally comes at like 12 till 1. Prices are great. Service is great. I think that the two waitresses are sisters. Maybe a cousin or something cooking. As diners go - they deserve 5 stars. This is pretty much the perfect diner! I love the fact that the core of it is an old rail car with a long counter along one side and small booths from back in the day when people were actually smaller on the other side. Over the years they built onto the rail car to create a larger dining room, a waiting area and restrooms in the back so from the street you can't really tell how quaint it is inside. So trust me, park the car and get yourself inside! They offer a great variety of standard breakfast options on the menu as well as daily specials on the board. I had the kielbasa special with 2 eggs, homefries and toast. The eggs were perfectly done (over-easy) and the homefries were excellent! Even the toast was perfectly toasted....not too crispy nor too soft. My sister in law shared her grilled blueberry muffin with me and it was awesome. The bill for four of us came to just under $25! Northampton Diner has been owned by the same family for three generations. I heard the cook telling someone that the kids who were helping serve customers were the fourth generation! The food is great, the prices are reasonable and everyone is super friendly. It's the kind of place where locals help themselves to coffee behind the counter. Now who doesn't love that?!?! read more

If you're up around at Sacandaga Lake, and are hungry for breakfast; skip the North Hampton Diner. This morning after waiting for breakfast we mentioned it had been an hour and we saw people that came in after us get served. Apparently we had no right to express that we had been waiting an hour as the waitress and a person relative to the owner advise us to consider ourselves lucky we only had to wait that long. I thought she was kidding but she continued with we didn't have to wait if we didn't want to and that one of their regular customers would eat it. This was all announce in the open. She was very condescending in such a sweet little tone. What a snotty self righteous littler waitress. So you don't need non regulars and do enough business to speak to people that way. Fine we have already started telling other people that visit your establishment about the way you treat visitors. Some know you very well and couldn't believe what we were telling them. We were always treated very nice prior to this experience. There are other diners that will be happy to have our business and we will be happy to go where we r appreciated. We don't need a middle aged menopausal bitch as a waitress who thinks she is doing us a favor. We will be going to another place from now on. Honey ur a dime a dozen and worth a dime a dance. U are very forgettable so don't fool yourself into thinking we are lucky to be there. You very slow nasty service served or not served is not needed by anyone who isn't a regular. Hopefully ur regulars don't die off as ill do my best to make sure your non regulars go somewhere else. Signed the unlucky one who waited an hour only to be lectured by the snot in the blue shirt. We love stopping at the Northampton! The two sisters who run the diner are probably the nicest, most accommodating, and most competent people you'll ever meet. For years, the Northampton has been a stop for us every time we drive up into the Adirondacks, and we are never disappointed with either the food or the service. It's obvious from the crowded parking lot at peak meal times that this is a popular stop for many, yet no matter how hectic it gets, the owners and staff never fail to greet everyone cheerfully and make their customers feel at home. From the moment we walked in, this place was amazing. As first-time diners, we did not have any cash on us (they do not accept cards, only cash). We were about to leave when the extremely nice waitress (who we later discovered was the owner) stopped us and said we could eat and to just come back and pay later! In shock, we sat down to eat. We have never been out to dine in such a place, where the kindness, caring, and vibe were so genuine. The food is cooked to order, which is amazing because the waitress plays the role of cook as well! She was very busy but still had the time to talk with everybody in the restaurant and make them feel at home. You simply do not see that nowadays. The food? Well, it was amazing...the French toast was made perfectly like my girlfriend likes it. The eggs were fluffy and cooked perfectly. The home fries are the real deal...actual potatoes! The smiley faces on our pancakes were a cute touch and just go to show how much the owner cares and enjoys what she is doing. My coffee cup was never empty and the sausage and biscuits was a HUGE dish of down-home, homemade perfection... The food, vibe, and feel of this place will take you back in time to a simpler and better day. We recently moved to the area and this is our new go-to breakfast place...They served dinner as well!!!
