Needed to transport my three cats from Puerto Rico to Maine in October - 2020. However, amidst the severe restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, discovered that none of the airlines were allowing the shipping of live animals as cargo. So I called upon the services of Pet Air and, through the special connections they apparently have with airlines, obtained flights for my cats from San Juan to Boston (the route was a bit more circuitous than that as the animals had to first fly San Juan to Dallas and then Dallas to Boston; but the result was the same). I met up with the three cats in Boston as per the scheduled arrival time and then drove my pets the remaining distance to eastern Maine. I could not have accomplished all of this without Pet Air. In addition, Pet Air's overnight FedEx service of the cats' waybill, necessary kennel stickers (declaring *LIVE ANIMALS* and arrows indicating up), and detailed instructions on how tom make sure everything was in compliance with airline and federal animal health regulations made the 22 hour journey from Puerto Rico to remote, eastern coastal Maine possible. In addition, all the while I was able to call Pet Air's phone number for helpful, 24-hour assistance to double check that I was doing everything correctly. Not only was this experience confusing but it was also very deceiving. I called them to get some clarification as their website doesn't outline how the process works. The person on the phone wasn't very helpful, they just said "fill out the online estimate form" which I did already. Then they said "make a reservation and someone will contact you later". They didn't tell me how to get the kennel from point A to point B or any specifics like that. When I asked again, they just said "make a reservation and then someone will call you." Their price estimates are completely misleading. I filled out the online form and was quoted "$150 and up". The "and up" part worried me but I figured it couldn't be too much more because I read all the fine print all over their confusing website and nothing seemed to indicate that there would be extra fees. To actually make a reservation you have to create a shipper's account which costs $25. I should have known then that something wasn't right. I made the shipper's account and then made my reservation. Then I waited, and waited and waited. Finally someone emailed me referencing an entirely different reservation - she was clearly confused. I corrected her and then asked about the process again. Then she asked me for kennel size again - this was on the online form but I told her again. Then she tells me there is a rush fee of $50, so that would make my reservation $200 (not including the shipper's account fee of $25). So I agree to that. Finally she tells me she is going to charge my credit card for almost double the cost of the estimate - $290. Where did the extra money come from? She said actually the rush fee is $75 and there's extra fees from the airline. I told her I couldn't pay that much, so I didn't want to go through with the reservation because the price is suddenly double what I thought I had to pay. Then she told me she would charge me $25 for changing my mind. I get that the cancellation fee was in the small print. But to quote someone half the price, then force them to sign up for a shipper's account and then make a reservation and then finally give them a new price at the last step is misleading. I argued with her on the phone for awhile but she just said "if you wanted a more accurate quote you should have called us directly". I told her it's not my fault the quote from the website gave me a lower number. She said the website was automated and I should have called them to confirm the quote. TL; DR version: 1) Get a quote online that is entirely wrong 2) Sign up for a shipper's account that costs $25 3) Don't get any calls from anyone about final cost or logistical process. 4) Find out the cost is double what you are quoted. 5) Try to cancel the reservation and they charge you another $25 6) Get patronized by the customer service rep. 7) All in all you're out $50 and no one has done anything for you. Let me sum this all up by saying that shipping our cat with this company was the MOST STRESSFUL part of our move! Like others have already said, they charge you $25 to setup an account, WTF?! right and of course it can only be the SHIPPER who can setup the account, so if I want to ship my cat through this service again (which I would Never do!) I would have to re-register as we had our friend physically "ship" the cat to us from SFO while we made a 4-day roadtrip out East. In addition, if the receiver of the pet pays the bill (as in our instance) there is an extra charge of like $100 or so...total nonsense, we ended up just writing our friend a check to avoid this absurd charge and then they pretty much only communicated with our friend even though it was our cat, when I repeatedly asked them to keep us informed. In terms of quoting a price: they said $185+ it was a total of $238 to ship our cat, as they were so concerned about the height of the cage that we had to keep going up to the next size so there was 2" above the tip of his ears...seriously, try measuring a cat upright with a ruler....good luck! They said he could only have torn up newspaper in the bottom of the cage, which was total BS, we placed pee-pee pads and a blanket with his smell and catnip all over it to try to make him feel a little better and the airline was totally cool with it, he flew Delta btw. Oh and perhaps the worst thing about it, was that they told us to bring him to SFO at 8pm for a midnight flight as the office closed down before then, which was completely WRONG and so the cat sat in his kennel for an extra 2 hours, (four hours total before his flight...) They also said that the pets unload 20min-1 1/2hrs. after landing but not only did he arrive early (which could not have been predicted) but the airline called and said he was ready for immediate pickup upon landing.....fail! In regards to customer service, they just plain suck. WRITING AN EMAIL IN ALL CAPS IS NOT AN APPROPRIATE WAY TO GET YOUR CUSTOMER'S ATTENTION, it just makes you sound hella aggro and seem like you have the manners of a 2year old. I should post the of emails here that I received in ALL CAPS...uhhhh What else can I say? I will go directly through the airline if I ever wish to ship my pet cargo again. I will start by saying thank you to Pet Air. I needed to ship my cats from CA to MI due to an upcoming military deployment, and pet air did NOT disappoint. The process was very easy and smooth. When I ran into an issue at the cargo center, I called Pet Air's 24 hour line, and the issue was resolved in less than 10 minutes. My cats both arrived safely in Michigan, even with an overnight stay in Seattle, which Pet Air hired a boarding company to take care of them, and ensured my mother that they were safe. I definitely would recommend pet air to anyone and everyone looking to ship some pets. Brilliant. I couldn't be happier. read more

I had heard the dogs flew inside cabin, not in cargo, which I was ecstatic about. This service is a complete rip off. They charged me a total of $728 to ship 2 dogs from LA to Seattle. When I went to drop the dogs off with the airline, the woman working there gave me a bill for $218.80 - the ACTUAL cost of flying the dogs from LA to Seattle. She gawked when I told her I had prepaid this company over $700! The "extras" this company provides (for over $500) are: 1. some color photocopied documents to explain where and when to drop them off (info available from the airline) 2. some zip ties for the kennels (not necessary) 3. some live animal stickers (available at no charge from the airline) 4. forms with shipping and receiving info (also available at no charge from the airline) Lesson learned: ALWAYS book directly with the airline. read more

I have had the absolute worst experience with this company. They arranged for my pet's travel and when my pet passed away in transit, not one person at this company, including the owner, expressed any sympathy for my loss. The owner only spoke to me once and thereafter refused to return my phone calls when I tried to inquire about the status of the insurance claim for my pet. Bottom line up front: Consider me a completely dissatisfied customer. Pet Air really didn't seem to care that two of my cats arrived with symptoms of heat stroke, and I spent hundreds of dollars at an overnight ER. Book directly with airline cargo and avoid this company entirely. Details: I looked for a pet shipper for a while, and Pet Air seemed like a safe bet with their application fee and strict standards. We shipped four animals with them over two Delta flights, and everything went well enough until the animals arrived. Temperatures on the shipment days had been between 95 and 105, and I was told it would take more than 45 minutes to get my animals from the plane to the cargo counter. When two of my cats showed up with heat exhaustion and symptoms of heat stroke, I had to take them to the emergency ER for treatment. I spent hundreds of dollars taking care of my animals and was (understandably, I think) upset with Delta. I called Pet Air the next day and first spoke to Emily, who was very kind and understood my concern. John was another story, and came across as condescending and uncaring during all of our three conversations. He told me 45 minutes to an hour was normal for transport, and I argued that it wasn't safe in extreme temperatures. (Apparently severe dehydration, panic, and labored, open-mouthed breathing in cats should be ok/acceptable - it's not, at all.) John said he would speak with Delta and get back to me. I followed up a week later after not hearing anything, and was told they'd just heard from Delta and would call me back. Five days later, John gave me the verbal equivalent of a shrug: Delta took note but wasn't going to do anything. At that point I was done, and asked for his email correspondence with Delta so I could continue pursuing the issue myself. John told me the emails were confidential, then told me to look up my own flight records when I asked for those. Lousy customer service, period; I never felt that I or my pets were important to Pet Air. This company didn't fight for me and I'll never trust them with my business again. read more

I used this service to ship my cat this past weekend. Their customer service people, especially Emily, is super nice and answered all of my questions. However, I'm only giving them three stars because they didn't really do anything extra for my pet for the money they charged, other than book her flight. Thankfully, the ladies in the cargo area for Delta at LaGuardia were super nice and took very good care of my cat. Areas that FlyPets/Pet Air needs to improve: 1. Let the customer know which flights are available before booking the flight, instead of just booking the flight and charging my card. At least let me know the options for flights, then I can make arrangements and make a decision from there. 2. They need ONE checklist. I had to call poor, sweet Emily 5,000 times because they have so many different checklists and e-mails, etc. Just have one list on the site and one list via e-mail. Not to mention all the colored papers they send you! Too much! 3. They told me that there would be someone from FlyPets/Pet Air at the cargo drop off...someone who would take my paperwork and make sure my cat was fed and watered. When I got to cargo, it took them a second to recognize the Fly Pets/Pet Air name, and they said that, no, it's just them - the Delta employees there. Fortunately, these ladies fed and watered her while she was in cargo (she had food and water in her dishes and in her crate when my friend picked her up later)! 4. Make better stickers for the crate. The stickers FlyPets/Pet Air sent to me didn't even stick to the crate! Thankfully, the ladies in cargo replaced the stickers with their own. 5. FlyPets/Pet Air also told me I could only drop her off 4 hours before her flight was to leave - no earlier. I was worried sick I was going to miss my flight waiting for cargo to take her in....but what FlyPets/Pet Air said was not true...Delta took her 5 hours before her flight. To be fair, perhaps there are some airlines, or airline personnel, that won't take the pets early. But in my case, not true. 6. Like the other reviewer, I had to call them about my reservation because no one reached out to me after I made my reservation. I could have waited if my cat's flight was a few weeks from when I made the reservation, but this was made a week in advance, so I really wanted to get it all set ASAP. 7. Stop charging a $25 application/account set up fee. Set up the account when you actually book the flight and then charge the customer a processing fee, and maybe for only $15 or $20. 8. John! Stop using the speaker phone when you talk to customers! It's really hard to hear you and it's unprofessional. I would politely suggest using a headset, if you prefer working and talking on the phone hands-free. I gave this service 3 stars only because Emily was so nice and walked me through the whole process. However, I don't feel like they really did much more than just book her flight and overnight paper work to me. I felt like I did a LOT more work on my end. And like the other reviewers, I'll just do this all through the airline next time. read more

Horrible customer service. We arranged for our pet to be shipped from Kansas City to LAX on Dec. 28, arriving in the morning. The original plan was to send our pet nonstop but that flight was cancelled. He was then sent to SLC for transfer to LAX. We were told by John McPhee that our pet was on a flight scheduled to land at LAX at noon. I contacted Pet Air around 11am and was told (not by John) that according to Delta records, our pet was on board. We were also told that it would take between 45 minutes to 2 hours to unload the pet and transfer him to the cargo facility for pickup. The plane subsequently landed around 12:15 pm. My wife left work and arrived at LAX at 2pm and was told the dog was not on board and they did not know where it was. We called Pet Air and talked to John. The first thing he said was "I am not an idiot." Neither my wife not I ever called him that. We asked him where the pet was. He said he did not know. We asked him why he did not tell us the dog was not unloaded at LAX so we could have avoided going there. He said it was not his job to do that. He said the dog was scheduled for a later flight to LAX (which he was on.) We asked him what had happened and why was our dog not on the right flight. He did not know but was "on hold" with Delta. (We ended up calling Delta ourselves and talked with someone within a few minutes.) John said he would call us back with more information and confirm the dog was on the right flight. We never heard from John again. Not only was John not helpful, but his callous manner involving a live pet was offensive. This was not just a mislaid package, it was a live animal that was forced to spend over 24 hours in a small cage. Horrible customer service. read more

Pet Air cost myself and a breeder a lot of time, energy and money. Pet Air was paid for a service they did not provide. The breeder arrived at the airport to drop off my kitten to be told that there wasn't a live cargo agent to accept him. The breeder had to drive to an airport and hour away while I had to drive 10 hours because of this whole fiasco. I had to make overnight accommodations on top of it. The owner didn't seem to care about the time, energy and money wasted because of Pet Air's lack of planning. He told us to file a claim with Delta. WE DIDN'T PAY DELTA FOR ANY SERVICE! He was only willing to refund us for the cost of the booking not for any of the damages incurred because of this. We got our money back and booked with Delta. Not only was it hassle free, but it was cheaper and the cat was shipped from the breeder's local airport. Go directly with the airline, this is a SCAM. I just shipped my two cats out this morning. I am not sure why this company has gotten such low ratings. I thought they did a great job! I got all of the details I needed in a FedEx package a couple of days ago. It had all of the instructions, stickers and zip ties I needed. I also thought they were resonably priced as I only paid $400 to fly two cats across the country. The only negative I have is that once I booked my flights, I wasn't contacted again. I had to call them a week out to ensure the reservation was still good to go and to inquire about the paperwork. Not a big deal in my eyes since everything else was so easy peasy. I am a very pleased customer, I never shipped a cat before, I didn't realize so many people shipped cats, I didn't want my cat to have any stop over flights, Pet Air found a direct flight for me from ABQ to ATL , It was worth my time, effort and concern of my cat to drive the extra 600 mile round trip from North Florida to pick my cat up at the Delta Cargo area in Atlanta Georgia, Pet Air made sure all the paperwork was in order and they overnight the Fedex flight ticket and stickers for my cat (Spotnose) they walked me though everything I needed from the vet to the correct cage size, I hope to never have to ship a cat again but if I have to, I would only ship with Pet Air as my agent. read more

I feel like they bend over backwards to accommodate me and get my pups to their destination in a quick and reasonable abount of time. My new families can call PetAir to check the status of their new baby in flight and I feel like they are the easiest, fastest and SAFEST way to get my babies to their new families. I use Pet Air because it cannot be beaten. Pet Air makes sure the pet is cared for correctly. Pet Air keeps up on the regulations that change all the time. Pet Air always tries to have a back-up flight in case the original flight has a problem. Pet Air is there at the airport to help get the pet off to a good start on their flight. If something unforeseen does happen, Pet Air is a problem solver. If you fly a pet, I don't think any other service can top them. read more
