The store itself is nice and has a good selection and very convenient location but every experience I've had in here has been negative due to the rude workers. I'm not sure what the deal is but there have been 3 instances where an older woman employee has been just short and rude with me, with a very negative attitude. A pet store employee should be resourceful and helpful without judgement or attitude regarding answering questions or being rude during the basic checkout process. This pet store is super close to me but now I choose to drive a few miles away to go to a store where I know I will get more polite customer service :/ read more

Purchased 2 puppies back in 2019. Both were supposed to be brothers as "chorkie" breed. One was severely sick from day 1 and him puking on the car ride home all over my arm should have been a red flag. I would never EVER bring any animal back here even if sick to be returned because it's evident they do not care for them properly . Both were covered in fleas which I did not notice until I got home. What a mess. Made me pay $15 for medicine when it was evident they had them when they were purchased. This place just screams PUPPY MILL. I am so happy that I rescued these sweet babies. SPCA cares for animals way better than this store. All they care about is $$$. Called a few months later for the paperwork of their shots so that I could register them at the vet and they could not even figure out how to use a fax machine. I mean seriously? They also lie about vaccinations. None were up to date at time of adoption. 1 puppy passed away this July, he was adopted separately by another individual but at the same time. The 1 star is for my super sweet pup who I love dearly and thats why this place disgusts me. He was only 1 1/2. BY THE WAY. They are not truthful about their breeds. My dog who was sold as a "chorkie" is a Jack Russell-Yorkie mix. Not a Chihuahua-Yorkie. They lie to have you pay more $$$ for a "toy breed". He's definitely medium sized fully grown. It's not okay to lie to your customers like that. In this situation it doesn't matter to me personally because I love my dog regardless, but I regret giving my hard earned money to this store. Like a petco or pet smart; sells pet supplies you may need! But also like a pet store! It had puppies, parrots, tanks of fish, rabbits, and ferrets from what I could see browsing the store! Prices seem to be nice and cheap, much cheaper than petco! We needed a flea solution for our cat. I looked up on petco roughly how much flea stuff cost. A flea shampoo was $13-$15 at petco. Came to pet center, we bought a decent smelling spray that you rub into your pets fur, down to their skin for only $6.99! (Smells like cinnamon). Our cat HATES baths, but didn't quite mind the spray. She tried to run away, but never even meowed once! The staff didn't really talk to us, just sat around and looked bored. We were amused by the green parrot in the store, he could say 'hello' and 'goodbye' as clear as day! The guy checking us out behind the register did NOT seem to be amused. We bought our pup Ruby there a few months back. She was a Shih Tzu. At only 5 months old we had to put her to sleep. She had Chronic Cystitis of the Bladder. She had surgery to remove a bladder stone and her swollen red bladder did not get better. Her urgency for peeing and her pain and suffering at such a young age helped us to make the right decision. The vet told us he had NEVER seen a young pup have this before. After reading about this chronic problem I came across an article that stated puppy mill dogs can get this. She must have been since BIRTH been in horrible filthy conditions with urine and feces all around her poor body. I was guaranteed these pups were not from puppy mills and had come from responsible breeders. I will be bringing a letter from the doctors office, surgery bill, meds bills and purchase receipt with me back to the store. DO NOT BUY PUPPIES FROM THIS PLACE. In September my husband and I went to the Pet Center to see if they had any chihuahua puppies. They had two teacup chihuahua little boys. She told us that they would only get between 3 to 4 pounds. Since we thought that they would stay small we bought both of them. It is now January and one of them stands a foot tall and his weight is over 6.5 pounds . The other one stands almost 10 inches tall and his weight is 5.4 pounds. And I'm sure they are not done growing. I am writing this review to make people aware that they will say anything to get you to purchase a puppy from them I think they only want to make money and they don't care about the animals or the people that purchase them.. I've been coming here to get Parrot food for the past 4 years and easily spend between 70-80 bucks a month on seeds and other supplies. Today I went there to buy a dog harness. While I was searching for a harness I noticed a man who I assume is the owner walking around my proximity for several minutes. This person did not ask if I needed help but appeared to be watching me and I assume that he thought I was stealing. Since I observe behavior as part of my job I picked up on this quickly, I found this persons behavior disturbing considering I am a frequent customer. I will no longer frequent this store. read more

There was a lot of pet supplies and a variety of animals but none of the animals were in good environmental conditions. There was an adorable bunny in the back of the store in a tiny fish aquarium all alone. I would have adopted him but was not equipped to do so. Also, there were two huge macaws in the back of the store IN THE SAME VERY TINY CAGE!!!! I don't think I will visit this pet store again, due to the poor treatment of the animals. read more

Walked in with the daughter, never once acknowledged. Was showing her a parrot, which jumped on my arm. No biggie. Cashier was there. Guess the thing was jealous or didn't like kids, so it took a piece of daughter's arm. Cashier saw it. As my daughter is crying, had to ask the cashier to come take the parrot off. Not even an apology. Continued to walk around the store, saw that they had two large macaws stuck in a hallway, inside of a cage that was meant for much smaller birds. HIGHLY recommend this place. Just went in to buy a light bulb for my crested gecko, but ended up holding bunnies and talking to one of the workers for a long time. Here's the thing. I read alot of these reviews. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and this is for sharing your experience, which customers have done. I think the owner is great in every way. I brought back a dog I purchased because I was so worried about him. The puppy heart was very fast. I was in tears when I went to that very nice owner with the puppy. I took it to a vet before I brought it back...and was told it had a heart murmer. I told the owner that we didn't have Pet insurance and I was a waitress and my husband a carpenter, and could not afford surgery and treatment for this cutie. He was a very religious man. Not only did he refund me but he said if I wanted another puppy, I could have one. I choose a Pekenese female puppy. The day before, her brother was there, but now gone, and she looked so lonely. The manager gave me the difference in price and home we went. The owner/manager also called me later that night to let me know that an elderly gentleman bought the puppy and was leaving the Pet Center to go to an Animal Hospital to schedule the much needed surgery. He didn't want me to worry. The compassionate owner didn't have to do that...but did! Granted the sales team is and has been rude. I guess seeing that their family...it entitles some to be rude and look down on the customers. But without us...they wouldn't be able to get those luxuries at home and so on. Lighten up, have employees take a much needed Hospitality course involving sales and character. I'll never forget my one experience, but not all were good. They don't look like they want to be there. Maybe hiring a few fresh and Experienced sales staff would help. That's what I don't get about S.C. Don't they realize that these folks won't return...Wouldn't you want them to? Its your paycheck. Since mid May we hv gone once a wk to look at puppies. First time we went in the person in front looked at us as if he wasn't interested in us. We asked him where were the pups n he pointed to location but asked us nothing. We stood at puppy place abt 15-20 mins n he did not move from the register. I turned around n asked him how much were the puppies? He said thr is a sign on the window with prices! We were not aware of how the system worked on the sign. N no assistance either. We then walked around the store checking the place out. All was ok. As we were walking out I asked "How often do you get yr puppies in?" He said mostly 1x per wk or more. He asked us what we looking for? When we told him, he said he was gtg some the flwg wkend! We said thank you n hv a nice day. Since then we been thr 2x. No puppy yet but at least he acknowledges us when we come in. The lady thr has been helpful n talks to us abt the puppies while we sit on chairs with the pups. We wl go back weekly n perhaps find a puppy there. read more

I bought a puppy here not that long ago and I'm usually against puppy mills but I was going to give this place a chance. I've had nothing but issues with my puppy. From throwing up blood all of the time to getting some genetic mange. It has been nothing but bills on top of bills on top of bills. I went to this place a few times and brought it to his attention the first time and he did nothing but roll his eyes and catch an attitude with me and tried walking away and doing something else. I almost slapped the living shit out of this old man. You shouldn't have puppies up for a display when they're sick, makes it look like you only care about the money in your pocket. Then I went there the second time and didn't give me a straight answer if thewould reimburse me. I brought the medicine and everything to go along with her illness but he still seems to have some excuse. On the sale sheet, it states nothing about showing the vets bill. Do you just think I rob a veterinarians office To get medicine and put her name on it in digital? This place is literally pathetic. He has nothing but attitude, he's lucky I didn't slap the living shit out of him. Definitely going to the Better Business Bureau. I heard a lot of bad things about this place and now I see why. Bad genes don't pass on to every puppy, just like any mother has a bad gene, doesn't pass onto each offspring. You can tell your customers whatever you want or respond however you want on this post just to make your business look better but let's be real, you only care about the money in your pocket. If you cared, your puppies wouldn't be rolling around in shit because my animal was full of shit and piss. This place is disgusting. You have a bird that even attacks people, on display with no cage. I hope everyone stays away from this place. At least the lady handling the dogs is nice and very helpful. I went to Pet Center to purchase another pet rat. I had recently purchased a pet rat a few months back and I decided it would be in my best interest to purchase the new rat from the same place as the previous rat. When I looked at the tank where the rats where kept, they were in horrifying conditions. The rats were bitten and bleeding. The males and females were kept in the same tank, and there was even a dead rat in the tank! None the less, I decided to get one of the rats in the tank. When I asked the lady who worked there to get it for me she grabbed the rat by the end of the tail (not okay) and handed her to me, not to mention she was so rude and unapproachable. The very next morning my newest rat died and it was very clear she was in extreme pain. I'm going to chalk it up to the fact, she was not taken care of at Pet Center. When I called the store to tell the staff about it, the lady answered the phone (once again, totally rude) and told me I could bring the dead rat in to either get another rat or get my money back. I don't care about my money but it was the principle of the matter. When I took my rat back to the store, the man was so rude and asked me if I had purchased the rat as a pet (as if that is unheard of?!). When I told him i did, he was a bit taken back. So none the less, the man gave me my money back and took the rat and threw her in the back. I then asked if I could have her back so I could take her and bury her. The man looked at me and then rolled his eyes. Pet Center should be shut down! ALL the animals are kept in terrible conditions and the staff is so rude. read more

This store is by far the WORST primarily because of the owners. I tried to return my puppy due to agressive behavior and was offered half of what I paid. I accepted it because I could no longer deal with the struggle of my emotions in doing this. I tried to get the rest of it back by means of my credit card however the owner LIED and said I never returned the dog but gracially gave me half back because I went in and negotiated it. I have a whole letter of lies this was the biggest one. I would advise against doing business with these people. I want to give them minus stars but am forced to give at least one to post. read more

I would highly recommend that you avoid this Pet Store. I was referred to this Pet Shop from an individual I had met. This business has moved to a new location on 3725 Renee Drive in Myrtle Beach. During the week of December 10 I stopped into the store and spoke to Lola and I asked her if I could see the Female Malti-poo which was born on 8-28-12. She brought the dog out for me to hold and it's price was $ 599. I asked her if the owner would drop the price so she texted the owner who was out of town and he agreed to lower the cost to $ 499. I explained that I would talk to my wife and get back to her and at the time she also explained how the 90 day same as cash worked which was advertised on their web site along with the in store $50 gift card for the purchase of a puppy which was stated on the web site. On December 16, 2012 my wife went back to store and put a $ 100 dollar deposit on dog and made arrangements to pick up dog on December 19th. we were explained that the first payment would be 1/3 of balance then we were to leave two addition checks for the remainder dated for the 2nd and 3rd month. On December 17th I went to my vet to make an appointment to bring dog in for check up on the day I was to pick up the dog. After I left the vet I went to the pet store to pay the remaining 1/3 and to give them the 2nd and 3rd check so when I came back on the 19th this would all be taken care of. I was waiting for someone to talk to while I was looking through the glass at the dog I was buying and the owner came up to me and asked if he could help me and I told him that I was there to pay the remaining 1/3 and to drop off the two other checks. He told me that because he reduced the price of dog that I didn't qualify for the 90 days same as cash. I explain that was never brought up and why would that have anything to do with the 90 days. Also in their advertising it also states that anyone that purchases a puppy from them also receives a $50 gift card to be used at their store. He told me that I do not get that either. I was very upset with their business practice and at that point request a refund of the deposit which they gave. Their business practice was very unethical and I mentioned that I was going to contact the BBB but the owner did not care so a complaint has been filed with the BBB. The sad part of this is that we were unable to bring this poor puppy home which had been in their cage for a few month's and the owner was more concerned about being deceitful in his policy then finding a home for this little puppy. read more

RUDE, RUDE, RUDE is all I have to say about this place. We just lost our dog 2 weeks ago and decided to go in there to buy another dog. The man just sat on the computer when we walked in, never in greeted us anything. We walked to the window with the dogs and the older lady and younger girl working never said a word to us. We final ask if we could hold one of the puppies because we were interested in that breed and she rudely told us it had been sold and turned her back to us. We own a business and I would not want my workers treating customers the way they did. I will never go back and never suggest this place to anybody. read more

I have been inside this store three times since moving to the area. Not one time have I ever seen an employee at the register OR any employees in the store other than ONE helping customers at the puppy area. Employees must wear street clothes with no name tags or distinguishing uniforms because I have wandered the store many times looking for an employee. I could not have bought something and checked out if I wanted to because there is never anyone at the register! Prices are cheaper, but the owners are not focused on customer service at all...unless you are plunking down over $500 for a puppy of course! Most ridiculous, horrible customer service I have ever witnessed. I don't see how they make any profit when they never have anyone around to assist customers. I'd rather pay more at Petco/PetSmart and have AVAILABLE employees around to answer questions and bag fish when I want to purchase. Don't waste your time like I did.
