I have had my dog for over 7 years and I have never encounter such horrible customer service than this shop. One time I purchased a new harness and had to bring it back because it didn't fit correctly once my dog started walking in it. I had the tags and the receipt and the lady tried to give me a hard time about returning it because my dog had a few hairs on it! Well of course because I had to try it on him to tell if it fit or not. Then my English bulldog started having dietary issues and I needed raw rabbit special ordered. Twice out of the three times I have ordered it doesn't come in because the supplier is out and no one bothers to call to inform me. When I go in I'm informed they weren't made aware until their delivery arrived and their is an invoice. The first time I was told I can buy the cat food version because it's the same - news flash it isn't. Then I was offered another brand which I explained I cannot use because my dog has had a reaction. Supplies run low I get it - but have the common courtesy for which is called customer service to be polite and thoughtful to your customers. I was pleasantly surprised as I walked in to this bright and airy shop! While they have a lot of products, its organized ,comfortable, and very clean! I have dog which has regular skin issues and I needed to find a new dog food. This can be an expensive and tricky task but it was an easy process with the help of the right people! Not only were the staff helpful and informed, they offered to give me a few samples of different types of food to see if they would be compatible with my dogs sensitivities! I am highly excited about this jewel of a pet store and will be back in the future!! read more

Truly great pet store in West Seattle. This is within walking distance to my house which makes it convenient. Today, our dalmation was about 30 feet ahead of us an he went right up to the door and waited as if to say "OK we're here. Give me the credit card, I'll be right out." The staff is always very friendly with our dogs and inevitably give out a pro bono treat or two. Also still love that their bags are doggy poop bags. read more

Great friendly staff! They have a rewards program for the my cat's crunchy cat food, Fussy Cat. They always let me know of promotional programs that I may be eligible for, and have surprised me with a few free food samples. They are the only store that I know of that sells peacock feathers, which my little guy loves to destroy. It's fun to be a regular here. Would love to see more cat toys. read more

Just left Pet Elements. The woman helping me couldn't handle my transaction (using an American Express gift card) and asked the other 3 girls behind the counter for help. When I tried to explain that I was using a gift card the original woman literally put her hand up as if to silence me and said "Sshhh! Ok." Ummm excuse me? DO NOT EVER TELL A CUSTOMER TO SHUSH AND PUT YOUR HAND IN THEIR FACE. I'm appalled. I've been a loyal customer since I adopted my dog almost a year ago and I will never return. read more

This is the only place I buy food for my dog, and I have recommended them to my own clients. In my opinion, the best selection of grain-free and species-appropriate pet foods in Seattle. Their staff can answer all your questions, especially when you're looking to trade up to a top shelf food from something inferior. They even give you a treat sample with your food purchase. I'm so conflicted about this store. They have an amazing selection of both the best of the best and great quality for less money. Unfortunately there are only two on staff who bother to help customers. The shorter, thin lady with glasses is awesome and always stops what she's doing to help and she really knows her stuff and I'm embarrassed I don't know her name. There is another smaller, older woman who is really knowledgeable and helpful too. The problem is if neither of them is there the rest of the staff is just blah...I was there while three of them were watching a panda video for 5 minutes, not one stopped to ask if I needed anything. I must have looked frustrated because one of the staff explained we were watching a panda video...um ok you're at work and you don't work in the panda department at the zoo :P The next visit was no better, one girl just stood behind the cash stand and didn't say a word to me, there weren't any other customers in the store. The other staff member was stocking shelves and again not a peep. My arms were full and neither bothered to offer to help or even so much as say hi, welcome. I spend over $200 a month here and one would think by now they would know my name, or my dog's name or well would welcome me as a total stranger I continue to shop here because they do have the best selection of food and supplements in West Seattle and they also still participate in frequent buyer programs. But I must say it's so disappointing because they could be amazing but they're just blah. Offering my dog a treat as I check out is nice but not helpful. Assisting me while I shop, stop watching videos and help, suggest a few things, these are the things that make great customer service. I'm so grateful to have access to a pet food & supplements, beds, toys, & knowledgeable staff here in West Seattle, These people are so considerate, helpful, & always willing "to go the extra mile" by providing contact info for companies (or heads of companied): whatever it takes for me to provide what is needed for my menagerie. They even had a doggy dental hygienist I made a pot with: a woman who radiate such utter calm, that the dogs just came in, sat down & opened their mouths, & stayed put, while she cleaned their teeth! We have been purchasing our dog food and treats from this locally owned store for years. We love patronizing local businesses. Recently I purchased some dog 'tennis' balls at Pet Elements. My dog had them demolished in less then 5 minutes - all 3 of them. They disintegrated into small pieces that could cause choking. I returned them to the store, thinking that they would be grateful to know of a dangerous product on their shelves. I was told that they were not able to refund my money and the woman that was helping me told me "that is why I don't buy those for my dog". Really?! I have not returned so I do not know if they are still selling them. Two things concerned me. 1. They did not seem concerned about selling a dangerous dog toy. 2. The clerk did not have the authority to refund $4. We have found another place to buy our dog supplies. read more

I just had an extremely bad experience at Pet Elements. My girlfriend and I went to get wet cat food and I asked for a price on an 8 pack of food as it was not listed. The customer who was currently at the register scoffed when I had turned around and said something along the lines of "They WOULD ask for a price check," and the employees behind the counter laughed. I don't know why someone would act like this or why employees in a customer service position would participate in this begavior. Needless to say I will never be returning to this store and will never spend another dime there. My girlfriend really loved this store but she is in agreement that we will never shop their again. Go to Mud Bay if you are looking for a friendly and wonderful experience. If you want to be judged about how much you are potentially spending by a stuck up house wife and the employees, go to Pet Elements. Extremely rude. read more

We had an incident last year when we first got our puppy. He had a few accidents at the store and I was mortified and embarrassed! The second time he had done it ( I tried really hard to lure him away from the same spot) I profusely apologized and a particular female employee huffed and stated "you know your going to have to do something about him and like put a belly band on him! He can't just come in here and keep doing that!" I think my mouth dropped to the floor. I apologized again and offered to pay for the items that he had peed on. I did call the owner in regards to the situation. Fast forward to this year. I decided I would try and visit again...after a year...My husband and I walked in and the SAME female employee looked at me as we walked in and did not even acknowledge us. All of the other employees said "hello...we haven't seen you guys in a while," and chit chatted. The particular female employee ignored us and would not even make eye contact with us. Extremely unprofessional and I can say that I won't return as a customer. I am saddened to say that b/c I really liked the other staff and Pet Elements. But I cannot get over the fact that this particular employee is so rude and unprofessional. We all have our bad days...I get it...but I don't take it out on others when I'm at work. She has a lot to learn about customer service and professionalism! read more

Long time customer of these folks and love them. They carry super healthy dog and cat food and have a vast variety of safe toy's and treats!!! I bought a very durable leash like 7 years ago for my Jack Russell that was eating all of the rope leashes and I still have it and it looks new. I am a consumer that is very picky about where I shop. Customer service and knowledge of product is first and foremost. I do my own research before shopping (knowledge is power), and who I'm shopping for is most important in my life. After all the recalls on various dog foods over 10 yrs ago, I found this pet store on a corner in West Seattle and I had all kinds of questions. I received free samples and all types of information from the very honest and caring owners and I've been shopping there ever since. Through the years and lots of questions from shampoo to cancer treatments, I have been treated with understanding and respect. It's not like I go in and they know my name, but they obviously recognize my face (which I would too after 10 years...).This pet shop is not a chain so walking in you may encounter busy days or laid back days. The employees always have appreciation and a nice word to share or a least a smile. This review is about two encounters with the same cashier about a year apart. She has unknowingly given the gift of health back for two of my forever pets. Just over the weekend my golden was having issues with joint pain in her knees (as of 2 years ago she has become a robo-dog) so I went looking for a specific CBD oil. I did my research, found what I wanted then about an hour before closing on Sunday I asked about a few supplements which they set me up with and then asked about this specific CBD oil. I was told they don't carry it and then the employee went online to research what I was asking for. We found out that there was a missing element to the oil I was inquiring about so it wouldn't have been beneficial at all. They do carry a type of oil but were out of it. Then this caring human in this little pet shop in West Seattle did an amazing gesture, she had some of her own CBD oil at home. So after asking twice if I had time to wait she would run home and get it, concerned about my time, (crazy right?!?). She literally ran home and back like it was another day in the life of working at this pet shop. There's something to be said about the owners of this shop choosing the perfect employees. As a small business owner myself I can appreciate that. I for one will always be grateful for this special pet shop and the heart inside it. As for the grumpy reviewers, I would ask you to take a look again with patients and gratitude and you'll find that there are people inside that shop that have chosen to help give our furry loved ones the best in life. read more

Another happy local (very!) customer. I prefer to support local business when I can and also patronize Mud Bay and the store at Westwood Village, but they are farther. I found Pet Elements by accident once when I took a wrong bus and bought a corner-shaped catbox there. Found them again when I got a coupon and realized oh yeah, they are right near my mailbox, Mailbox West (another friendly local establishment). Went in to buy Evo, their no. 1 dry food and my cats' favorite, but they were all out. I must have looked sad because they gave me some free samples to tide us over and said they would call when it came in. If you live in West Seattle, check them out! And see their coupon currently in the coupon "The Best Of Alki/West Seattle," delivered to your mailbox. Nice, friendly, helpful staff. Satisfaction guaranteed--if your pet doesn't like it--you can return it. [Note: Found out this is not true for everything: Smaller "sample"-sized bags that cost around $2.50 are not returnable, maybe other stuff?] Independent store so you are not selling your soul to a mega-chain. Competitive prices (currently Evo on Amazon including S&H is just about the same price, plus I found out from Evo buying online voids their own quality guarantee--Evo WANTS us to buy from local stores where we can check expiration date and get help from staff. Petco doesn't carry Evo either). Only a mile or so from my home so I can actually walk there with my cart, not even take the bus, and how GREEN is that? Thanks, Pet Elements! P.S.
