Meaning, they don't offer a lot of the name brands that people have come to be familiar with. This isn't a criticism, this is just the way it is. Meaning, this store is really geared towards the buyer who wants to take the best possible care of their furry friend. This is a large, open, and airy store. The aisles are very well organized, so it's very easy to find what you're looking for. For those of you who like to bathe your furry friend yourself, this store has self bathing facilities. They have a few large sinks in the front of the store, where you can bring in your pooch, and clean them up. Located right on 2nd St., this business is easy to find. For those of you who know the area, there's a lot of street parking, and a few lots around the area, so parking should ever be a problem. I absolutely LOVE pet food express. Every time I walk in I'm always greeted with a hello. My boyfriend and I bring our dog here because of the self service dog wash. It's such an easy way to wash your dog and you don't have to worry about the mess or clean up. Their deals are also amazing and we love the kiwi treat brand as well as vital essentials. We ended up moving about 20 minutes away from this location, but we still make frequent monthly trips to visit because it's always a great experience. read more

I love shopping here because I know my pets are getting quality products/ingredients. It's like the Sprouts or Whole Foods of the Animal world. They almost always seem to have BOGO deals or discounts on some items. I have friends that also refuse to shop anywhere but here for their pets. Plus the dog washing station is so convenient! Charlie was extremely knowledgeable and helpful when it came to giving me advice on cat food! She gave me great tips on how I can maintain the longevity and overall health of my cats who are my babies. Switching to a predominantly raw diet really does save money$$$ and prevent less health issues in my pets! I've noticed a positive change in their overall mood, hygiene and hair. This is especially helpful for boy cats and UTI issues. Seriously thank you Charlie for your wisdom and compassion. It's located on 2nd street so naturally parking can be tough. 12/10/22 I was just walking around 2nd Street enjoying the sights & on my way to the Discovery Shop (American cancer society). At the sidewalk, front off ft Pet Food Express, lies a tent with tables & three cages with kitties inside. Awwww, melt your heart sight! I stopped by just to see the little fur babies just lounging, some asleep, just purring away looking at the people passing by. You can make a donation (there's a donation box on top of one of the cages. There were 3 employees stationed there to answer your question about adoption & keeping an eye on them kitties. wanted to get my frenchie some new treats and also check out pet food express' new location on 2nd! i was greeted upon entering and clearly looked lost because he asked what i needed help looking for LOL, i noticed i was also on the wrong side of the store, but wanted to check out their pet wash area. so once you enter the store, the cat section is to the left and doggie stuff is to the right.. i immediately got distracted because there was so much to look at and love how clean and organized their store was! then got overwhelmed because there was too many options LOL i needed to stay focus, so i picked up vital essentials treats in salmon, rabbit, duck and beef tripe flavors. also purchased the vital essentials' chicken entree dog food to add to my frenchie's meal as a topper.. the staff there were all so nice! def will be returning to try out different brands :) parking: its long beach! street and there are a few parking lots read more

Similar story to another reviewer here but I go to this spot to pick up my dog food as it's close and convenient but I might have to consider driving elsewhere. My dog is older and my vet recommended a specific line of food (JFFD) and everytime I go to checkout they try to sell me on a different brand saying that vet recommendations aren't necessarily educated. It would be one thing if I asked for a recommendation but to constantly be told not to listen to my vet is getting old. Idk what they have against JFFD and tbh with how much they despise it, idk why they even carry it. read more

I went into pet Food express.. I have a new five month year-old kitten with a fractured leg. I actually felt more relieved by their associates than two vets combined. They recommended this Italian cat food, and this joint supplement. My kitten couldn't chow down the food, fast enough and I actually think with this supplement, I will save myself surgery. Always have just what my babies need. I am the proud mama of two brother cats and they are big boys. They absolutely love the snacks/treats here the minnows and the chicken hearts are their favorite. So much so they have worked together to open the pantry and destroy the bag and devour the goods. Lol. I had Yelp awhile back from Charlie I believe her name was with shooting the correct food for my babies. She is a cat nutritionist and was extremely knowledgeable. I recommend going in there if your little ones are picky eaters and need something new and delicious. They have way more energy and seem to be living their best life since switching to the food and diet that was recommend. I love this place. read more

Came by for a puppy wash after a morning of having dirt, grass, and sand all over our puppies coat! Super convenient. $18 bucks a wash. 25 minutes. It was our first time doing this and it's practically like a self car wash for doggos. Very user friendly for the owners. And very comfortable for the pups. I like that they have a selection of shampoos. My only concern was that the water came out kind of chilly at first. It took like 2 minutes to warm up. It was pretty early in the morning, I suppose. Saturday March 1st, 2025, purchased 4 large bags of dog food, I took advantage of their buy 3 get the 4th free promotion which is a very good deal, I spent about $257.00, a few days later I noticed the best by date on 1 of the bags was 3/31/2025 (the other 3 were some time in 2026) which did not give very much time to use it, I called the store and spoke to a very nice man, he said that he would exchange it for a fresher bag and hold in the back for me, on Sunday March 9th, 2025 I went in to exchange the the 24 lb. for exactly the same the food the young women wanted to charge me a little more than $21.00, she said it was because of the promotion (buy 3 get the 4h free) that she needed to charge for the exchange, after I protested she handed me over to another young women who was able to handle the exchange, there was not apology or sorry for the misunderstanding, just the exchange with out any dialog, she even tried to keep my original receipt which had my other purchases on it, I looked up their Retail & Return Policy, this is what I found with regard to the promotion I used: Refunds or exchanges on sale or discontinued purchases will be refunded at the price you paid. Purchases using our B3G4F (Buy 3 and Get the 4th Free promotion) will be refunded at a 25% price reduction for each returned item, but may be exchanged for items of equal original price. The bag I was exchanging was $102.99, I was exchanging it for exactly the same food with a later best by date which will give me plenty of time to use it. read more

I can't say enough about Charlie and all of the staff there! I went in with my dog as I wanted to speak to Charlie she is so knowledgeable about nutrition and how to feed your dog well! All about probiotics my dogs love the goat milk she recommended and the raw bones which is a timed treat she really takes her time with you and your dog. My dog loves the food! I took my baby girl there for a bath. She doesn't like getting them and now that she's bigger it's a lot harder for me to bath her properly. Using the baths at this location was a breeze. We had a hunch that while we spoil our two cats, it hasn't been in the right way for them! She also helped confirm they are quite different due to breed. A month ago I visited the store for the first time, I brought my German shepherd in to try out the wash stations. I spoke to Charlie regarding my pets skin issues (losing fur, itching, etc. She recommended we try Kasiks pet food, goat milk, and omega oil. My dog had been struggling with his skin issues for over a year and no luck of improvement. I took Charlie's word and tried out Kasiks. One month later my dog's fur is almost completely grown back. I've visited to store a couple of times and not only Charlie but all the other employees have exceeded my expectations each visit. this review is for the small pet owners (chinchillas, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, etc) came in here looking for things for my rabbit since i'd seen this place many times on my way to other stores. the store is split between cat and dog so if you're looking for small pet specific things like pellets or forage, this won't be the place for you. however, the great thing about having a rabbit is that this visit wasn't a total bust and i found some safe the litter, pee pads, and tunnel toys ; so now i know another place to get some if it running low. i'm sure it's fantastic for cat and dog owners since i saw a lot of good quality brands for various breeds on various diets, but maybe some day they'll cater to the little guys too read more

3 stars for a great selection and cleanliness of the store, but I'm knocking off two stars for the staff member I talked to. I didn't get his name but I was in the process of switching my dog's food and he was very condescending about the food I had my dog on at the time (one of the oldest and most reputable dog food companies on the market). My dog has a sensitive stomach and the food simply was too rich for him. This same employee suggested that I should stay away from ANY vet recommended dog food. Seriously? I'm supposed to trust a pet store cashier more than someone who went to medical school?? No thanks. I work with dogs professionally (non-medical, but still) so this really irked me. I'm all for more natural, less processed pet food, but it is still really irresponsible to advise customers not to trust their veterinarian. But I guess if you're anti-science and think anyone with a degree is trying to con you, this is the store for you. I will not be returning. read more

This place is great! Super friendly staff, great selection of the good stuff for cats and dogs. Great to finally have a one stop shop on second street in Belmont Shores. The self serve PET WASH is awesome and state of the art. They give you a token and it gives you 25 minutes, a waterproof collar and a towel. The hose dispenses both the shampoo and water. So just select any or all of the shampoos and it comes right out mixed with water. They have a hose dryer that works great. I think I was out of there in 10 minutes so didn't even use the full time. I haven't been having so much stress trying to figure out how to feed my one year-old cats. I ordered and purchased hundreds of dollars of cat foods with no success. I called Pet Express in Belmont shore, a wonderful cashier answered, was very helpful and directed me to the nutritionist there her name was Charlie. The whole experience with the entire staff was amazing but the nutritionist gave me inside that none of the vets or the veterinary nutritionist I contacted could help me with my picky cats Charlie was an amazing source. The entire store was clean. All employees were helpful and finally I came home and tried some of the food that Charlie had recommended. I can only say that my cats thought they went to heaven. I was really excited to see this new pet food store opening up in Belmont and the convenient location. I have 2 senior Pitbull's and they were in need of a new diet because of health problems, food allergies and being 10 lbs. overweight. I was so pleased to be greeted by the store employee (more like a concierge service) Jeff who patiently listened to all my concerns about my 10 & 11 year old dogs. He then explained all the food options based on my info shared. His knowledge of the products was very impressive and super helpful... But what was most appreciated, were the stories of his personal experiences he had with his own dogs and food products they tried over various stages of their lives. Needless to say, I learned about dog foods that I didn't even know existed and were carried in the store. Jeff helped me narrow down my options and I bought the suggested foods and supplements Jeff shared with me. Initially, I wasn't sure if my dogs would like the food. It's been 2 weeks and my dogs are doing really well with the food suggestions, sleeping better (not so restless throughout the night or groggy during the day) and I noticed their stomach isn't as bloated. Today I purchased more freeze dried dog food and raw lamb toppers. My pups saw the bags and were super excited to eat. If you're a finicky pet parent (like me) and looking for the best foods for your pet, I'd suggest you give this place a try.
