I went back a few more times -- and didn't like them as well. They switched out the cool cat beds, and now they just have the same selection of mushy cat beds that everyone else has. And instead of telling me "we're going to stock Blue Buffalo cat food soon," they started saying "we're never going to stock Blue Buffalo cat food." So they're down to an average three-star rating. If you want to go independent, I'd recommend Centinela rather than Pet Food Express (though they don't carry as much as I'd like, either). If you don't care, the Petco on Arroyo has actually improved in recent years; they're helpful without stalking you all over the store, and they have an excellent variety of cat food. read more

Our family purchases our dog food from this location on a monthly basis, and outside of their always professional and helpful services (i.e., suggestions for supplements, reminders of store sales, and overall kind service), they went above and beyond last night when I locked myself out of my car with my dogs inside (thank goodness it was a chilly night and not a scorching day). I've always been happy with this store until this visit. I wanted to buy three huge bags of dry dog food. They give you a forth for free. They were running low on the type I needed. I asked if the forth free bag could be two smaller bags since they didn't have any large bags. It was the exact same weight of the larger one. The manager was not accommodating and I had $300 of other items in my cart. I think my money will be better spent someplace else. One stars despite their good selection in quality food for pets, their adoption options and a (small) select handful of very nice employees that were very knowledgeable and helpful. We had a very poor experience today when we brought our dog into the store to wash her. We have a chow so she requires lots of dry time. You're allowed 25mins for $15 for a wash, rinse and dry. In the past when we've needed more air for drying the manager would gladly come a turn the air on for us until we were done using it. Today, the manager on duty (managers on duty today were Norah, Emoni and Peter) refused to turn the air on for us so we could finish drying our puppy. I explained to her that in the past the manager has turned it on for us without question and she said that she was "not allowed to do that" and then offered the option of us buying another 25 minutes. I told her that we weren't going to us anymore water or shampoo but still she refused. She would rather let us leave with a semi wet dog. We used to spend at least $100 a month in dog food, treats, brushes, shampoo and toys. Sadly we will no longer be spending anymore money at a b that cares more about a policy that is not enforced most of the time rather than the well being of the animals that come through their store. Wow, I wish every business was run the way this business is. It's always spotless and there are plenty of friendly people to help you. Every employee I've met here has been above and beyond NICE. I had to finally get on here to write a review because an employee today was really exceptional. I didn't catch his name but I remember his pets name was Cooper. He helped me go over the ingredients of the food my senior kitty likes and really took his time to help me pick a healthier option. I could tell he really cared about my pet. I just really appreciate the friendliness and helpfulness of all the employees here. It's rare to find a high end pet store that isn't filled with super pushy sales associates. I come here often, as I work nearby and walk my dog during my lunch break. The staff here is so friendly! They're very helpful and never make you feel pressured into buying anything. My dog has a lot of food allergies, and we have a hard time keeping weight on her. The staff here has been able to recommend a few foods that really work for her, and are within our budget. I buy a food that's not always in stock, and I really appreciate how accommodating the staff is with me. I once had to have them order a bag for me, and they let me use a coupon on the special order after holding it for me for a day, which was awesome. This is also the only place in town that sells raw bison and lamb bones for dogs. My dog LOVES the raw lamb bones, so we're in every week when they get their shipment to pick the best ones. read more

I really love this chain! The store is smaller than Petsmart or Petco but that's what makes this store personable and friendly. The staff are here really nice and helpful. They have a self wash for your pet and it's reasonably priced. The BEST part is that EVERYTHING in the store is buy 3 get the 4th free. If you have a puppy, they offer free puppy socialization classes Sunday morning right before they open. My dog and I both love this place! read more

I then asked for help from a Gentleman i believe his name was (bryan or ryan) i asked him a simple question about a certain food brand and he mentioned they didnt carry it. He Was Very Polite. More of a "People Person" i should say.. & Of course i had to ask who the previous lady was and he did mention is was the General Manager. and he apologized on her behalf. Pet food express is by far superior than Petco and PetSmart in their pet food and their employees. Javier is amazing and Katy and Coco have been extremely helpful. My 11 month, 100 lb German Shepard was having indigestion problems and through Javier's guidance, he is completely healed. Their employees know what their talking about and actually care about their customers. They only carry top quality pet foods like Fromm. It's cool that I can give my dog a bath but I dislike that they don't have as much as they used to. Everything I used to get my dog, they no longer carry. We have gone to this store and each time had an exceptional experience. This store isn't your run of the mill commercial pet store. They have a dog bakery, a self-service dog/cat wash and only high ingredient pet food. They also have leashes, toys, treats, beds, dog strollers ect. Our first 2 visits have been amazing! 1st visit- We were walking by and wanted to check it out. We were greeted by a worker by the name of Asia. She was super friendly and helpful. She assisted us and another customer and Asia gave us the down and dirty on raw food. She gave us suggestions, ideas and showed us products. She also showed us products that were on sale and we didn't feel pressured to buy any one item. I asked tons of questions and she was very friendly and helpful the entire time. We didn't realize we stayed passed closing time because we never felt rushed. 2nd visit- We notice on the first visit they have an area you can wash your dogs & cats, they provide towels, shampoo and a blow dryer device (It's not hot at all), so this time we decided to check it out. We started asking questions to the worker in the bakery area (Yes, they have a dog bakery), I believe his name was Henry. Instead of just answering our questions, he gave us a token to let us try it out! So awesome. We loved it! Our lil pup was super mellow and it was easy to wash her . They have 3 different types of shampoo; Orange peel (For fleas and ticks), Aloe and oatmeal (for soothing itchy skin), and Mango Tango (A shampoo/conditioner). We used the aloe and oatmeal for our babies itchy skin. After we were all done, Henry came over to ask us how our lil girl did! Super friendly. I can't say enough good things about this place. I've never had such helpful, knowledgeable, friendly service at a pet store. If they let you bring your cats in the store, I bet you my cats would love it too. (Ok, I've never actually tried, but my cats aren't super-chill about being walked on a leash like some sort of long-tailed small dog.) Everyone I've been helped by is great, but Coco is super-helpful in particular, and really makes you feel that she cares about your pet's wellbeing. They have a buy-3-get-1-free policy that is extra great for those things you're always buying like food and litter. And they have an amazing return policy. I had bought litter that I ended up HATING, and even though it was half-used, they cheerfully refunded my money. Seriously? Even though I already used half? This company knows how to do customer service. Oh, and they don't up-sell. I've actually had them give me tips on how to save money by buying a similar product from a cheaper brand down the aisle. The selection of organic and holistic foods is amazing and the people who work there are so nice and helpful! everyone seems knowledgeable about the products they carry unlike petsmart and petco. my dog loved visiting the store and I enjoyed it even more. Thankfully there's a few places around me in Pasadena that carry my dog food brand. Petxpress is one of them, but also the best in my opinion. There's street parking right up front and it's never busy, so I always just pull right up. As soon as you walk in, they greet you with a smile. The times I have went, I just grab my big bag of dog food and go straight to the counter. Service with a smile each time, jokes, chit chats and just nice personalities. After my transaction, they ask if u need help out to your car. Since I'm literally right out front, I take it myself, but appreciate the offer :) Even the smallest things within these 2 minutes in the store, makes my whole experience worth it to keep coming back. read more

I absolutely love this store! They have a great selection on pretty much anything you need for your pet :) we went in there for a new collar and harness but came home with 9 others things as well! We were helped by Jeff and a blonde girl (I didn't catch her name but it starts with an A) they were both very knowledgeable and kind to our Pug. Although they don't offer grooming services, they do have a self serve pet wash and clinic! Every Saturday they offer a micro chipping service from 4p-5:30p for only $15! I recently rescued my first dog from Pet Food Express and I am so glad I did! Not only do I have the sweetest rescue pup ever, I now have a wonderful pet store in my neighborhood that treats my dog and me like family :-) My dog and I visit PTE a few times a week and we love seeing all the friendly faces at PTE and getting the services/products we need for my lil doggy. Superior quality of customer experience is paramount for me when I am looking for a place to shop - especially for a store where I will give repeat business. In this situation, I consider my dog and me to be PTE customers and I am glad to report they treat us like gold. I've been shopping around at other local competitors and even though the experience I've had has been wonderful at these other stores, PTE is my favorite and it is where I give the majority of my business. In particular, CoCo, an associate at PTE is the BEST example of someone I know who not only understands/loves animals but also can recommend helpful products and provide quality customer service for my pet and me! From my first visit to the store when I fostered my now-adopted dog, CoCo has been supportive and there for us! My dog has some health issues and while my vet has been fantastic in treating him, CoCo listens attentively to me and does a thorough assessment as she helps recommend products/solutions that work for him. We are so fortunate! It's great that CoCo is knowledgeable about PTE products but more importantly, CoCo takes a genuine interest in ALL pets, not just mine. I'm amazed at how CoCo is able to recall details about my dog and how caring she is for him. CoCo has already taught me a lot about raising a rescue dog and she really gave me the confidence to care for a rescue. Knowing I have resources like CoCo in the community is so meaningful for a new pet parent like me. I usually go to the store in Glendale for my cat's Rawz food but it was closed due to Covid-19 so I used delivery from the Pasadena store. The delivery was seamless and so easy. I ordered around 10am and received the cat food by 3pm. I really appreciate the delivery staff and their professionalism. We ended up asking Leslie questions about dog food as we wanted to switch chow for our little ones. She was extremely knowledgeable. She spent a lot of time with us going over a few brands. Bad experience with the woman cashier. Explained that we were getting a rescue dog. First she lectured us about not feeding the dog only treats or dental biscuits since they weren't nutritional. What the what? She then went off at the register about grain free food. That's fine when an anti-vaccination mother yells at another mother in line. Totally inappropriate for the staff to talk down to customers. Not acceptable. Turns out that's the reputation for this location. We checked notes with different veterinarians in the area. Just spoke with Michael who is one of the owners of Pet Food Express. I called corporate because I wanted to let them know about my experience. Their stores in Northern California are all about customer service. So as a customer I felt that they should know what happened as a customer stand point. My main point was to make sure their Pasadena store hold to their standards. I explained everything to Michael like I did on Yelp. He said that regardless of a customer spends a dollar or not the customer should be treated right and with courtesy. He said he was going to reach out to the store and call me back. He did spoke with the store and got back to me very promptly. He said the store forwarded the Yelp review and since they can't make me happy they told me to go to the Centinela. A simple apology for how the 2 staff members behaved would have made me happy which I told him so. Which he ignored and proceeded to tell me to go to a store that makes me happy. I own my own business and we focus on customer service. A simple apology goes a long way for any customer to feel acknowledged for their experience and keep their business with you. I wasn't asking for anything for free or anything. Just acknowledge that your employees did not represent your brand correctly would have been fine. Per Michael, the apology was my refund for items I paid for and returned. Stellar comment from the owner! Now I know why your staff isn't trained well you just poached a few stellar workers from competitor stores in the area starting out but with new staff you guys hired and will be hiring will have you as an example to follow. If anyone else has had or will have similar experience as I did with rude staff... Don't hold your breath for an apology. Just go to Centinela per Michael. He even said that store is ran very well and knows Chris who runs it. Funny... When they first opened I started coming here because a lot of the staff members from the Pasadena Centinela location came here... Maybe Michael is right I should have stuck to Centinela. He might be onto something. Due to my error I accidentally deleted my first review. So here I go again... RUDE and OVER PRICED!!!! Check prices of food to anything they sell here. If you don't check they price gouge. Their local competitors like Centinela to smaller stores all offer things here for $5 or more less in price. They hike up prices to do marketing gimmicks like the buy 3 get 4th free but in fact you are paying still more if not about the same as the other store but have to buy more. I drove all the way from Diamond Bar last night to purchase a birthday cake for my dog. Called a couple hours ahead for them to put the cake aside. I arrived 20 minutes or so before their closing. Javier said he can have the cake pre written but I said I will do it myself. He proceeded to tell me it takes so much experience making me believe that it will be done nicely. I still declined and asked if I could do it myself and he agreed. I have purchased a cake for a friend there before where it was done all sloppy. So I have learned my lesson. My puppy wanted to come with me so when o got to the store I asked them to do it. Coco said she wasn't that great at it and told me she will get someone who will do a better job. The Lady she got struggled with it and I even said if she would hold onto my dog I can do it myself like originally planned. She declined. The writing was if something my 3 year old can do so I asked for the piping to touch it up. She gave me the piping and badgered me to go home and fix it. I felt offended and asked for a refund just on the cake. Javier finally showed up and offended me more by not acknowledging his staff member was rude only bull dogged on that if I let them do it when I asked the cake to be held it would have been better. Told him I didn't mind it looked bad I just wanted the time to fix it since the frosting was still warm and would have taken me 5 minutes. Than he made it into a money issues which I told him it wasn't. I made a total of $100.17 in purchase with other items for my pup's birthday. Spend around $400 a month on my cats raw food there alone and I get treated like dirt with no apologizes. Only person who apologized watching this whole debacle was Coco another staff member. I recognized her since she worked at Centinela before she worked here. She was the only one that tried to make and effort. Also FYI their refrigerators for raw frozen food is questionable. A lot of food in containers have condensation freezer burns on the packages themselves. Pointed it out to a manager once and said it will be fixed but still not fixed. If any other owners feed raw food diets to their pets this is very alarming! read more

I live near Pet Food express and watched as they redesigned the space and was interested to see what kind of place it would be. I went in to check it out right after they opened and saw that the store carries high-quality food, toys and accessories Since I take care to eat a clean, healthy and natural diet, I want the best food for my animals. Even though they must eat meat, I wanted to find organic food sources that didn't contain antibiotics or hormones. Henry offered to help me and I asked him a lot of questions. Henry was very patient in answering my questions and walked me around the store to show me the different kinds of food, including the raw foods, which I had never tried. He spent a considerable amount of time with me and didn't try to rush or try to sell me the highest-end food, but tried to find food for my pets that matched what I was describing to him. So we found a type of food that was a good mix of what I wanted and what he recommended from their selection. The store has a huge selection of food so it was good to get some advice. Henry also talked about what he feeds his own pets. He recommended trying a raw food - he showed me a freeze-dried product as well as a frozen product. I had never tried that before, but he said that he feeds his pets some raw food along with their regular kibble. It took a little while for my kitties to get used to the raw food, but now they really like it. Also, if you buy three bags or cans of food, you get the fourth one free. Since the raw food is expensive, it's a pretty good way of buying a high-quality food at a 25 percent discount. read more
