I have been going to Pet Pals for more than a decade. They were sold to a corporate entity and things just got worse and worse. The prices just for higher and higher and the service worse and worse. They literally stopped answering the phone and even their message says they no longer check their voicemail. They also don't answer their emails. They stopped carrying the medication I need to treat my dogs cancer. They gave me a website that I could order it from. I did so but they had to confirm the prescription. They didn't. The pharmacy said they tried seven times. I went in and asked them to respond and sent them the email I got from the pharmacy. They said they would take care of it. They didn't. I went back in and asked them to reach out to the pharmacy again and they said that they no longer deal with those medicines but offered to sell me something close because it was the last one they had and needed to get rid of it. I asked where the doctor that left went and they told me they couldn't tell me. If you care about your pets don't take them here. I used to love this place and now or sucks. read more

I wasn't going to leave a review; in August when Pet Pals imploded, I took my pets and found another veterinarian closer to my home in McCordsville. However, after the gloating post that showed up on Pet Pals Facebook about an award they received from Yelp, I feel that I need to share my experience. Since the new Pet Pals manager is dishonest and tries to hide what has happened there this year, all former clients should do the same. Over the summer, Dr Towle retired, Dr Olden-Stahl left the practice. I won't share the backstory because it's not mine to share. But they did not do this by choice. The entire staff of about a dozen vet techs also left at the same time. Trust me when I say that the abuse from corporate drove them all away. The corporate conglomerate that purchased Pet Pals a few years ago has brought in an incompetent (and RUDE) "clinic manager" and a "relief veterinarian" who is in his 80s and was retired. They are no longer "holistic" and do not offer acupuncture, osteo treatments, herbal treatments or any of the treatments that Drs Towle and Olden-Stahl offered. They won't tell you that though; they'll get you in for an appointment and THEN tell you, so they get that office visit fee from you. If you are looking for holistic veterinary care, and doctors that listen to you and offer more than the standard yearly vaccines and parasite prevention, GO ELSEWHERE. The new staff does not care about you or your pet. Pet Pals is a gutted shadow of its former self, and I'm surprised CareVet is keeping this dying facility open since it's bleeding money and hurting their most important concern - PROFIT. They delete any comment from their page that is not bowing at their feet and fawning over them. I'm glad Yelp is HONEST and doesn't let businesses hide less-than-stellar reviews. read more

I was googling the phone number of my vet (pet pals) and saw I had never given them a review. Shame on me. I had been going to pet pals off/on since 2015 for holistic care for my pets but have completely switched to them the past few years. All the doctors are wonderful. The staff is great. Dr. O is my main doctor and she is one of the best doctors I have ever been a patient of in both humans and animals. She is thorough. She is kind. She is smart. She thinks and considers everything. My dogs (and I) are all better bc we have her. She is a wizard of her craft and I would recommend her to anyone. read more

Unfortunately, I was not referred to the correct veterinarian at this office. I asked for a holistic vet and was absolutely clear about what I wanted. I was also clear about my horrible past experiences with unqualified vets. Dr. Towle (the former owner) is a good veterinarian. I should have been referred to her. Instead, I was handed to Dr. Oden-Stahl. Dr. Oden-Stahl is not a holistic vet. She is a VCA vet. In my opinion, VCA vets are about the money and don't care about killing off your dog. I was charged a premium price for my dog's initial appointment but was not given the holistic check up due to me. In the end, my dog was misdiagnosed and died from the dog flu (not Lepto which is what Oden-Stahl insisted that he had). Charles was not given proper care and I was furious, heart broken and out $1000. Not to mention, the front office staff didn't even bother to help me get out the door while I was carrying a dying 45 pound dog. The whole experience makes me sick. read more

If negative stars were an option..this would be the one. I struggled with writing this review as I did not want to relive this experience. It was as upsetting as it was wrong and my hope is that this information can benefit some other unsuspecting person. I called Pet Pals yesterday to ask about several medications my dog was taking. The effects and intent of meds (both animal and human) are not my area of expertise, so of course, I had some questions. To complicate matters, last summer, all of the staff that I had come to know for years left, retired or were let go...a glaring red flag. The woman who answered the phone somehow became offended by my questions and out of nowhere, said she would email me my dog's records and I could find another vet. She continued talking (more like rambling) as the several questions I had asked were not getting answered. I'm a logical person and a simple, common sense answered would have more than sufficed. Her ramble went on and I asked her to stop and listen to what I was saying. She gave me a condescending laugh..yes a laugh. Told me she did not have to deal with rude people and I promptly heard a click in my ear. Uh..what just happened?? Shortly after that, I got several emails including my dog's records and a lengthy note that my account at Pet Pals was being deactivated, berating and insulting me for being a rude heathen, that they expect respect (oh the irony) and they will be happy to help me in any way going forward (oh the passive aggressiveness). To give a brief background, Pet Pals was recommended to me 15 years ago by a trusted and knowledgeable friend who has spent his entire career in the care of animals. At this time, this clinic practiced both holistic and conventional veterinary medicine. My vet was Dr. Towle..and she did not disappoint. She was wonderful, as were all of the other vets, vet techs and front office staff. I drove an hour to get to Pet Pals for 15 years. They cared for all 3 of my dogs over those years..keeping them healthy and happy until they reached old age. I will never forget the love and compassion shown by Dr. Towle and Dr. Olden-Stahl in discussing their treatments over the years. I was easily able to reach either of them and they spent all the time necessary to address all my questions and concerns. Like most of us, I love my fur babies more than anything and want to be certain they are getting the best care possible. Pet Pals was also the place that helped me through the grief and heartbreak of putting 2 of my babies down during that time. In short, this was really an incredible place at one time..based on my 5 minute interaction and subsequent emails, this is no longer the case. To be clear, a person who I have likely never met, (no confirmation though as she did not give her name. A wise choice based on her horrendous people skills) answered the phone and in one fell swoop decided that a 15 year relationship no longer mattered and that she had the authority to make this decision. To say this was shocking and upsetting is an understatement. I have no official knowledge if there was an ownership change here but after researching this business and reading reviews since the staff change in the summer of 2023, it seems my experience yesterday is the norm, not the exception. I hope the current owners read this and make a common sense decision to not allow a receptionist to tell a one-sided story and let them determine the direction of your business. The owners need to be aware of this mismanagement of clientele and they should care. read more

Since Dr. Towle and Dr. Olden-Stahl have left this clinic, it has went downhill. It's also no longer an integrative/holistic clinic, which is disappointing. I wasn't aware that the original doctors had left until I called to make an appt. I figured I would still go ahead and give them a try. While the appt. itself and new vet there was ok, the clinic manager there is TERRIBLE and RUDE. Keep in mind I only had an exam by the vet - NOTHING else was done - no testing, no needles, NOTHING. After paying at the clinic I opted to have the receipt emailed to me. Later on I looked at the receipt and discovered there's an $8.00 "medical waste disposal" charge, even though nothing was used or disposed of during the exam. I called the clinic to ask about the charge and was told I had to talk to the clinic manager. The mgr. tells me that this "medical waste disposal" charge is standard at all hospitals regardless if anything was used/disposed of during the exam. I told her at my former vet clinic and clinics I have worked at as a vet tech, this is NOT accurate and that I shouldn't be charged for something that didn't occur. She told me that she wasn't going to refund the $8.00 and that if it were her, she wouldn't complain over $8. I explained to her that it was the principle of being charged for something that didn't happen, not that it was $8. She replied by saying that we could just part ways and would send my pet's records to me. This was $8, which isn't a lot, but makes me wonder what other expensive things they try to charge people for that shouldn't be charged. This place isn't honest, shady and is going downhill fast. They may fool other people, but they're not going to fool me and I won't put up with being charged for things that didn't happen, nor the terrible customer service. I'm astonished that a person like this is the clinic manager?!? No wonder your clinic is short staffed - your former workers prob. got treated terribly and knew what shady practices you were trying to pull on customers. The first red flag is that both original doctors are no longer there. Was told one of them retired, but wonder now if that's altogether true. The other doctor is now at another clinic (I did research and found where she is) - no surprise she left! Highly recommend finding elsewhere to take your pets if you care about them and don't want to be ripped off. As long as people put up with bad, dishonest businesses, these places will continue on with bad behavior and business practices. Now cue the canned response from this business, "we're sorry to hear you feel this way, we strive to provide the best experience, we're working to make improvements, blah, blah, blah". I absolutely LOVE this place! Yesterday, I went for the first time, and was a little bit worried, but I shouldn't have been! The staff was VERY nice! Especially Holly! My dogs are pretty crazy, but the doctor just kept talking to them, and was VERY good with them! He rewarded them because they did so good, and, of course, my dogs loved that! I've only been to Pet Pals twice. Both times, when I had a pet develop a life ending illness. Not the best of circumstances. Let me tell you about the second time, about a month ago. My seventeen-year-old cat, Charlie, developed cancer. In quick time he was diagnosed and fell gravely ill. I contacted Pet Pals for his end of life arrangements. Due to the quickness of Charlie's illness discovery, the arrangements were very last minute. Pet Pals was able to squeeze my wife and I in and were beyond caring and sensitive to what we were going through. Really and truly made things easier for us as we felt a real empathy and sympathy from the staff. Dr. Towne even got teary eyed once Charlie left this world. We also received a sympathy card signed by all the staff. Not needed, but very much appreciated. Man, it's been a month and I still get teary thinking about it. I brought my previous dog here who had Cancer so he could receive the Chinese Herbs to keep him healthy. Last year I became a client of Pet Pals Holistic Vet. when I brought my sick kitty in to be seen. I'd seen a vet at another clinic who was completely unhelpful but the vet at Pet Pals was amazing and identified the problem immediately. I was very grateful and decided to continue with Pet Pals. When I later tried to make appointments for my other 2 kitties, I was told they were not accepting any "new patients". It didn't matter that I was a "current client." What kind of policy is that? Their reasoning was that one of their vets was retiring and they were too busy to accept "new patient" appointments even from "current clients." What?!?! I thought maybe this made sense but when I mentioned it to a friend, I found out that Pet Pals had done the same to them in the past! So good luck to you if you think this is a loyal vet clinic that will stick with you through thick and thin with all of your pets. My guess is that they will chuck you out the door whenever you are too much trouble or try to make too many appointments. read more

Dr. Towle is wonderful. She's knowledgeable and patient. She takes to the time to talk with you, explain your options and give her honest thoughts and recommendations. We've taken dogs and cats here. Her staff is full of animal lovers and there is always a friendly greeting from the moment you open the door. They don't over schedule and are always conscientious about letting you know if and why there is a delay (somebody needed emergency assistance). I like having holistic options available. The staff always follows up after a visit. It's not cheap nor expensive (we've been to both). Quality and competency are just what I'm looking for in a vet and the excellent service is a bonus. read more

At 14 we finally had to say goodbye to our guy Vegas. Dr Olden-Stahl was so incredibly kind and compassionate as we had to say goodbye. The whole staff made a terrible situation as bearable as it could be. On the last day with our dear Vegas dog he didn't eat for the first time in his heart disease journey. I was so sad because Vegas just loved to eat. We got him to the vet and the girl at the front desk asked if she could give him a treat, I said "you can try but he isn't eating" and you know that little stinker gobbled up the treat when she gave it to him! To me that really spoke to how much Vegas loved his vet and her staff! He was well taken care of that day and we will be forever grateful! read more

BUT I'm not in any sort of denial about what a strange and stubborn dog she actually is. Molly is a quintessential shelter dog with all the quirks that make her a wee bit difficult for others to deal with (I mean, come on, what should we expect from a fishmonger who sells cockles from a wheelbarrow anyway, right?). Bad teeth, overweight, talons, blind, and ornery: what's not to love? The problem: most vets don't find her issues quite so endearing, and I didn't know where to turn for her care. The resolution: Pet Pals. I can honestly say that there is no one else I would trust with her, and when you love your furry friend enough to sing to her, this is HUGE. We see Dr. Shaw specifically, and I can't say enough about her care of Molly (A.K.A.: Monkey, jiggly puff, Molzebub (play on beelzebub if you didn't catch that)). Pet Pals USED to be a great veterinary hospital but now it is terrible. A year or two ago they fired Dr. Arnold, the founder of Pet Pals and used the money they saved to renovate the lobby and hire a bunch of new staff who have no idea what they are doing. I tried to stick with them but they are EXTREMELY disorganized and can't keep track of what they have and haven't done on any given visit. You will be kept waiting in the lobby to "talk to the doctor" after a routine visit, and when the doctor finally comes out they will not know what they were supposed to tell you. My friend just went their and they forgot to give shots to her dog (which was the main purpose of the visit). She had to go back to have them done. Oh, and you will pay top dollar for lots of things that you don't need for all of your trouble. I cannot overstate how bad this place has become. read more

This is the best vet clinic in Indy! My family has been taking our cats here for years. They are always prompt and Dr. Olden Stahl is incredibly compassionate. I took my 15 year old fur baby in to be laid to rest a while ago and they were incredibly supportive. They even sent me a card in the mail afterwards -- it was a great touch during such a hard time. We just got a new kitten so we certainly take her to Dr. O. She is incredibly well-versed in cat behavior and how to keep them happy at home. It's something I had never experienced at any other vet before (she really does care!). Some of the vaccines are a little more expensive than the Humane Society vaccine clinic, so I usually opt to take her there. Either way, I never feel pressured to get them done at the clinic. Dr Towle has helped us with training issues, how to treat feet that were damaged from being housed in a wire crate at a puppy mill, what foods to feed our pets with most of their teeth extracted. They make house calls which is unheard of today. Anytime I've had a question or concern and call, I receive a personal return phone call the same day. They are very knowledgable and pro active about preventative health such as luxating patella and other genetic problems to be aware of. We are extremely impressed with and happy with the care for our pets from Pet Pals. The reception area is attractively decorated and has no unpleasant pet order most pet facilities have. If you have large dogs, especially German Sherpard dogs this is NOT the place for you. They are afraid of big dogs. They seem to be caring yet I have had several bad experiences with the staff. I understand some vets are cautious with GSD. I understand this. I spoke with a vet about my experience and she said she would check into it. I received a voicemail today regarding one of my older non GSD. She thought she hung up the phone and did not. I heard what she said and it was harsh and unprofessional. Even if they are holistic I see them as arrogant and rude. I would not recommend any animal to this clinic. I had high hopes and gave them many chances. SAD read more

I am very disappointed we had never been before. Had an appointment for our dogs drove an hour to get there. First the lady was rude to us because our 8 month old boxer was barking. Why because there are other dogs there he is a puppy and wants to play. My husband goes outside like the lady asks. We sit for 25 min not one person says a word to us. Dr. Towle is one of the best veterinarian around. She takes her time with me one every question I have in regards to my dogs. She understands how important they are to me. Even with my anxious dog, she doesn't push him beyond his limits during him. She is great at giving options. Usually start at the minimal treatment to see if it will work then work from there.
